Vergelegen Wine Estate is a renowned establishment with sunset vineyard and cellar tours, themed gardens, and an upscale restaurant. The estate is known for its exceptional gardens as well as its wines. Visitors can explore the expansive grounds and guided tours to witness the winter-blooming camellia trees, which make up South Africa's first International Camellia Garden of Excellence.
Vergelegen Wine Estate is absolutely beautiful! The gardens are massive and so well kept – honestly worth every bit of the R20 entry fee just to walk around and enjoy the scenery. On top of that, the wines are incredible. You can buy bottles to take home, and I picked up two reds that taste amazing. Such a stunning place to spend a day, I’d definitely recommend it.

We had the wine tasting and the pic nic at Vergelegen. The pic nic is in a beautiful setting in the camphor tree forest. The food was good and I especially liked the malay chicken salad. The vichyssoise was also delicious. The diversity of food is almost too much that we thought they could reduce it a bit and focus more on the quality. All of the food was cold and not just freshly made, for example the spanakopita were out of the fridge along with everything else. It was very cold on that day and it took a while to get a blanket, they were small and not warm. The selection if wines by the glass was very disappointing for a wine farm, they aim to sell mostly bottles. The tables are also a bit close together so I think it’s good to specify if you want to be further apart. For the wine tasting, the vergelegen V was nice but for the price it’s possible to find better ones. The cap classique was nice

Went there with the intention of having breakfast at the Rose Terrace but couldn’t find it - signage is a bit vague. Landed up having a beautiful breakfast at Stables instead. Landed up spending hours wandering around the gardens and visited the library and homestead. The ladies who oversee these two areas have a wealth of knowledge and imparted so much information. It was also explained to us that the entrance fee at the gate goes toward leopard conservation - perhaps this should have been made a bit clearer at the gate. We felt it was worth every penny. Reading the reviews of people who complain about the entrance fee I am gobsmacked by the tight fistedness of people especially those who are clearly from Europe where you pay more to use a public toilet. For those who complain about certain items not being on the menu, do your homework and actually go to a restaurant that serves the items you crave. I would happily go back and pay the entrance fee knowing it is going to a good cause.

Vergelegen Wine Farm offers an unforgettable harmony between natural beauty and refined hospitality. The sweeping vineyards framed by ancient trees and Helderberg peaks evoke a timeless serenity that enhances every sip of their exceptional wines. The picnic experience, masterfully arranged and served by Moses, reflects an artful balance of elegance and warmth—every detail thoughtfully anticipated. It is a destination where landscape, flavor, and service unite to form a lasting impression of understated luxury.

Wonderful to experience the sunflower festival. I loved that you could purchase sunflowers to take home. It may be be worthwhile to look at incorporating some "food trucks" near to the sunflower gardens since the restaurant could clearly not handle the number of guests. The parking area needs staff to help manage traffic. Lovely kids play area, picnic options would be lovely.

This is a beautiful place. Breath taking views. The grounds are well maintained. I think you can have celebrations on the property. We saw a party setupI would love to go again for a hike. Did a 5k hike early morning. It has it steep moments especially for someone that doesn't hike often.

What amazing and beautiful Nature Trails. Everytime I go I discover something new. Walking here is peaceful with absolute bliss, liberating and good for the Soul. The song that comes to mind ... "The road is long, with many a winding turn, that leads us to who knows where" not the entire song is applicable though 😉 I just love this place and so fortunate and lucky to be able to walk here often. Love ~ Love ~ Life 💜🩵❤️🧡 Enjoy the photos of Nature at its best. 🪷

An amazing place to hike! Whatever way you go up the mountain it’s steep but the views and glorious. The newer Waboom trail is an amazing addition. The staff at the gate are always lovely and friend. An absolute bargain as well. Recommend buying the annual pass if you’re a local. Gets busy! Go as early as you can at weekends.

A very modern winery and estate even though it has roots back to 1700. The tasting room is adjacent to the actual wine holdings so we can see the activities of the wine makers. Overall a good experience.

Don’t dare leave Capetown without visiting Lourensford ,highly highly recommend coming for their Sunday market ,what an amazing experience it was for me. Must say Lourensford is a beautiful wine farm ,just from beginning to end . They have a very unique setup ,amazing ,have not enough words to describe how beautiful it is. Art rooms ,bar with classic cars ,if you’re a big fan of classic cars ,make your way there NOW .They have a live band during the Sunday market ,a lot of small shops that sell very beautiful and unique pieces ,and a loooot of food options .

Lourensford Wine Estate, Somerset West, South Africa is not just a very modern Wine Estate, with beautiful Spa-service, local markets with specialist food stalls, hand made baskets, art-work and lots of amazing stalls... We also enjoyed an afternoon of live music, their local restaurant and gin tasting... Just past the Airport on the N2, it's really worth the trip for the whole family... If you use drive your own vehicle, they have a very safe secure paid parking and they even have pickle balls courts... Enjoy, Kurt

Lovely garden setting enriched with birdlife & art. Great to stroll around, restaurants and experiences to pick from. The setting is very special. I'd love to visit again, with my camera & more time.

There are a couple of restaurants, a gin bar, wine cellar, clay pigeon shooting, archery, crafts and more. Overall great facilities and service wherever I went. It’s a nice social atmosphere and it can get quit busy over the weekends. You can also just sit under a tree, next to a water feature and have a glass of wine.

We had a wonderful day at Lourensford Wine Estate! The atmosphere was vibrant, with a fantastic selection of food stalls offering delicious options for every taste. The live music added such a lively touch, perfectly complementing the stunning surroundings. And, of course, the wine was exceptional—rich, flavorful, and a true highlight of the visit. Highly recommend spending a day here for a perfect blend of great food, music, and wine!

Cheetah Outreach, located in South Africa, is a conservation organization focused on preserving free-ranging South African cheetahs. In addition to its crucial conservation efforts, Cheetah Outreach offers educational programs and opportunities for visitors to interact with cheetahs through activities like the 'Cheetah Encounter.' The organization's work is vital as the global cheetah population has drastically declined in recent years.
We had a good time here. We missed the tour start but we joined half way and the guides were really nice and informative. Learned a lot about the individual cheetahs.

🌟 **Cheetah Outreach – A Wildly Amazing Experience!** 🌟 Visiting the Cheetah Outreach, in Somerset West was hands-down one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I signed up for the animal encounter and the feeding tour, and every moment was packed with awe, education, and pure joy. The highlight was getting to interact with Zorro, the 9-month-old cheetah cub. Though he was almost the same size as a fully grown cheetah, Zorro has the most soulful eyes and gentle demeanor. Getting to stroke him was surreal—his sleek fur and calm presence made the moment feel magical. What made it even more special was leerning about his surrogate dog brother, who stood loyally by his side. Hearing about their bond was an eye opener to the dedication, compassion and care that goes into conservation work. The feeding tour added a whole new layer of insight. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, walking us through the animals diets, behaviors, and the challenges they face in the wild. It wasn’t just cheetahs there were servals, jackals and meerkats as well. A big thank you to the team of volunteers and conservation experts. I left the cheetah outreach with amazing photos and memories, but also with a deeper appreciation for earths majestic creatures and the people working tirelessly to ensure their survival. 🧡 Highly recommend for animal lovers, conservation enthusiasts, or anyone looking to connect with animals in a deep meaningful way.
Keshvir T — Google review
Cheetah Outreach is an unforgettable experience with a powerful mission behind it. Their goal is to protect cheetahs through education, awareness, and conservation partnerships and you can feel how much the staff truly cares about these animals. They work closely with farmers and communities to reduce conflict and help save cheetahs from extinction, which gave so much meaning to the visit. Being able to get up close to a cheetah was one of the coolest moments of my life. These animals are absolutely beautiful and surprisingly calm when you’re near them. The staff made safety the top priority and treated the cheetahs with so much love and respect it never felt like a “tourist attraction,” but more like being welcomed into a conservation project that matters. I learned so much, and getting to gently touch a cheetah while hearing it purr is something I’ll never forget. If you’re visiting Cape Town and want to support responsible wildlife conservation, I highly recommend stopping here. It’s educational, inspiring, and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. # Safari

What a wonderful facility and the staff couldn’t be kinder. We were able to meet Zorro today. Their one year old cub on his birthday and are very thankful that we had this experience up so close with such a powerful animal. Many thanks to Donna for spending time with us and giving Insights on the life of a cheetah and how they are different than many other cats of South Africa. Highly recommend you book a few days in advance at least.

Quick Takeaways 🅿️ Free off-road parking 🐆 Small to medium-sized facility with various animals (not just cheetahs) 💬 Reception staff unfriendly and disengaged 🌐 Website unclear and slightly misleading 📸 A-typical fencing makes photography difficult Hot weather = animals hiding in the shade Cheetah encounters (R100–R200) must be pre-booked 🤷‍♂️ Okay for a quick visit, but plan ahead for a better experience Full Review The Cheetah Outreach Experience is a medium-sized setup that’s easy to find, with off-road parking and a very affordable entrance fee of just 10 rand — though, in my case, that price felt about right for what was on offer. I arrived with a group of six others without pre-booking, and while that was our mistake, the reception experience was poor. The man running the front desk (a medium-sized wooden structure called The Cat Shack) was clearly having a bad day — he came across as flustered, short-tempered, and generally disengaged. He told us they were short-staffed and unable to run any tours, which we acknowledged given we hadn’t planned ahead, but the lack of warmth or professionalism and confusion of the website didn’t help. We were left to wander the site ourselves. There are actually quite a few animals beyond the cheetahs — foxes, shepherd dogs, a tortoise, and meerkats — but photography is almost impossible thanks to the tight mesh fencing used for most enclosures. Not something I’ve seen before in other similar setups. If you visit on a hot sunny day, don’t expect to see much activity — most animals were hiding in the shade when I went. You can pay between 100–200 rand for a cheetah encounter, which allows you to gently stroke a ‘tame’ cheetah under supervision. The volunteers seemed attentive and safety-conscious, and the cheetahs behaved much like domestic cats — affectionate if they felt like it, aloof if not. The Cat Shack doubles as the gift shop, selling some decent merchandise. However, the website is misleading, implying you can simply turn up for tours throughout the day, with only enrichment sessions being timed — in reality, that’s not the case. It also only advises pre-booking for groups of 10+, which doesn’t reflect what actually happens. Because of the unclear information, unwelcoming reception staff, and limited experience, I can only give this place 3 stars. Plan ahead if you go — and set expectations accordingly.
MilPoPo — Google review
What a memorable, pleasant experience! Friendly staff, knowledgable tour guide and very interesting information on every animal. I visited the timeslot when they got fed - very informative and we could take close-up photos. Staff offered to take videos from inside the Cheetah enclosures. Excellent visit!
Wilma G — Google review
Cheetah Outreach is a conservation facility offering educational encounters with cheetahs in a safe environment. Its most vital work is the successful Livestock Guarding Dog Program, which places guardian dogs with farmers to protect livestock and prevent the retaliatory killing of wild cheetahs.
Luke J — Google review
Hats off to Dawn and the rest of the team! And, naturally, to all the cats in the establishment. Well cared for with spacious enclosures and attention to their habits and moods. As a person that have had close encounters with cheetahs I would have loved a bit more freedom in petting and stroking, but I totally understand the reason for the rules in place and was happy to abide. Do yourself a favour and visit the place, ose encounters with these majestic cats is something that will leave you mesmerised and (a very affordable) entrance fee keeps them going.

Nestled in a larger residential estate, Erinvale Golf Club offers stunning views of the Helderberg Mountains and the Cape coastline. The course is impeccably maintained, with perfectly cut tee boxes, glass-like greens, and pristine bunkers. The newly renovated halfway house provides a delightful experience for golfers. While some visitors appreciate the picturesque views and well-kept greens, others note that certain obstructions hinder the overall spectacle.
Let me start with the bad - ok done with that. Everything was great the golf, the views, the food, the staff. We stayed at Erinvale Estate which was equally beatutiful with and amazing staff! They would even get breakfast ready for us earlier than the standard start time since we had either an early tee time or an early tour.

Erinvale is up there in the rankings as one of the most beautiful courses in South Africa. Amazing clubhouse, challenging yet rewarding course, and set in an amazing location, it truly is a bucket list course that any South African golfer needs to play. Oh my what a sensational golf course. Perfect condition, greens were immaculate (explains the many 3 putts!), decent friendly club house and veranda. But the views, wow every angle of the course is jaw dropping and every hole offers a different perspective. Can’t wait to visit again!
JC M — Google review
I've mixed feelings. The course is in immaculate condition, and the greens were beautiful even though a little competition had gone though just before me. There are some pretty views, although there's often something in your view that stops it being truly spectacular. BUT... Two women who I'd arrived were told that they'd be fined for being the male only when they tried to have a drink in the bar. That's just not OK.
Paul A — Google review
You will be hard-pressed to find a golf course in better shape than Erinvale! Recently had a world-class experience here and was left with a feeling that will keep me coming back for years. The course is in a condition that could rival some overseas tournament courses, every single tee box perfectly cut and shaped, greens that were running like glass and bunkers raked to perfection. The newly renovated halfway house was a pleasurable experience and the free hot drink was a nice surprise. We were delighted to find our sand bags & towels soaked when we returned to our bags at the turn and were greeted warmly by 2-3 course marshals throughout our round. What a pleasure. I will be back.

Well worth a visit, friendly staff & I especially appreciated their willingness to prepare my steak in butter. It was a little too rare (I requested medium to medium rare) though incredibly tender & delicious once the extra butter I requested was provided. The veggies were perfectly prepared. LOVED the fried parsley I snacked off my partner's plate.

We had a birthday at this resturant today and really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere was warm and cheerful and less busy then the rest of Lourensford. The menu was varied and reasonably priced and our waitress and the other staff were exceptional. My gran who is in her 90s particularly enjoyed the comfortable chairs and speedy service. Thank you and we will be back again soon :)

If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful dining experience don’t go to this place. The cutlery is worn out, damaged forks. I ordered a catch of the day meal and was given a piece of fish that looked like it was 100grams it was not worth the price point. My daughter found a big piece of hair in her food. Then we were swarmed by green flies, we had to ask for takeaway boxes as we could not enjoy our meals. The manager told me they know about the fly problem and that’s because they’re at a wine farm. I told him we’ve been to many wine farms and never had experienced such infestation of flies and I told him we’re never going back there!

I had lunch here during my first business trip to South Africa and it was REALLY great experience. That’s why during our vacations to South Africa this restaurant was on the top of our list. Unfortunately from the very beginning it was big disappointment. First, the waiter could not really explain menu items. Then they served a red wine being really warm, ca. 25C, in a wine estate!. Then we ordered a bottle of their flagship wine and it was served freezing cold, max 5-7 C. It didn’t make any sense. When the food came it became only worse. Prawns were by far overcooked. On our request it was replace with the ones done properly. Beef fillet was also done wrongly, soft but chewy. At the end the waiter openly asked for…. a nice tip. WOW! There were two more senior gentlemen, most likely managers who were doing their best to fix these problems, but I’m afraid there are too many things to be fixed there…..

Went here for Sunday lunch, my husband ordered the pork belly and I had the rib eye. Pork belly was succulent and the apples really complimented the dish. Rib eye was slightly stringy but cooked well. The sauce was a mustard kind of butter which was nice and the fries were delicious. They had Three Spades Cider which we tried and was really good as well as the Wow wow cocktail (which I requested it to be a mocktail) and it was great just a bit too sweet. Ordered the whiskey cheesecake and that was simply amazing! The restaurant is situated in a beautiful neighbourhood that’s quiet and can enjoy the mountains and greenery. It has a very homey feel and the servers are all so friendly and delightful. It is a very popular restaurant so I would highly recommend making a reservation but if you are lucky like we were the hostess will make a plan to find a table for you. Just an overall pleasant experience and a day well spent!

We had a lovely dinner here this evening. Our table was set right in front of the fireplace, creating the perfect warm and cozy atmosphere on a cold winter’s day. The service was excellent—from the attentive waitstaff to the knowledgeable sommelier—and the owner who also personally checked in to ensure everything was just right. The burrata salad was a standout starter, full of flavor and beautifully presented. For mains, both the pork belly and ribeye were superb. Would recommend Crème Brûlée for dessert. All the steaks are free-range, and they also offer dry-aged T-bone steaks by the kilogram, which is a great option for sharing. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality steak, great service, and either scenic views or a fireplace to keep you warm in winter.

A fabulous lunch with a group of friends and family. Tasha and her team’s care and attention was second to none. Great food, wine, atmosphere and farm. Highly recommend!

It's probably our favorite restaurant on our trip to SA. We enjoyed here every dish, and they make meat on point (you get exactly M / MR and not MW as we experienced with most restaurants). They have excellent wine and cocktails, too. Highly recommended!!!

Located in the rural part of Stellenbosch, this restaurant is just off the main road with allot of parking & lots of seating area both inside & outdoor...there is also a play area for kids...there is a meat aging fridge for purchase of quite expensive aged meat...we saw one slice of steak 🥩 costing around R900 just for the small piece...there's also jams etc for sale...the menu is very very limited...on the mains there was 3 items as can be seen from the pic...the pepper steak was about R300 & shared aged steak R1300 per kg...there was a burger for R180...the other stuff was more tapas style but quite small which is not really a mains & just 2 of those would cost about R300...so the burger was very bland...buns were dry, there was no Sauce with the burger & just fries which were also dry...there is no veggies or salads or anything else with...the service was average from the waiter...cannot remember even a smile...but she was not rude just maybe disinterested...was wondering how this restaurant survives...they had allot of patrons but almost nothing on a main menu...

Dog friendly!!! We had a delicious lunch here. Such friendly and helpful staff. Sitting outside, sipping on a chilled glass of bubbles and eating the best deep-fried Brie... what could be better? Nothing! Knowledgeable sommelier for suggestions on a very well picked wine list. Thank you!

Avontuur is a lovely place for a meal in a truly beautiful setting. Breakfast on the porch overlooks False Bay to Table Mountain across the beautiful connecting valley. Weather permitting, lunch is also lovely here as the pergola provides much-needed shade on warmer days. Dinner inside is a treat and always served by friendly staff. As with every spot, there are always small suggestions for improvement... e.g. the gate staff can be grumpy, service can be a little slow and attention to detail with table settings can sometimes lack that final look-over for hygiene. Overall, it really is a little gem, though, and experiences here end up happy. It is definitely worth a visit.

I recently visited Avontuur Estate Restaurant and had the Winter two course meal. The pork was delicious... every biteful was perfection. The bread and butter pudding was mouthwatering and handsdown one of the best desserts I've had in a very long time. Overall, I enjoyed every bite of my meal. The staff were absolutely friendly and professional. A very special thank you to the hostess, Cynthia and Avril. I look forward to visiting again in the Summer to enjoy the beautiful views.

Had a wonderful women's day dinner with my family here today. We were lucky to get a table without a reservation. Staff was friedly and halpful all through our stay. I had the bobotie and my wife had the chicken filet with vegetables. They have a plunger coffee which was really good and you can get 2 cups from it. The bobotie was really nice and well spiced served with rice, and banana mayo. The scenery is amazing and the whole venue is just something to experience. Worth the visit. Restroom convenience : 5/5 Restroom cleanliness : 5/5

Five star comes to mind easily when thinking about Avontuur. From the service to food was superb, staff made you feel like a VIP. Avontuur will stand out for their attention to detail and with the stunning views. Well worth a visit

Scrumptious, beautiful, tasty food. Priced well. Atmosphere just awesome. Worth driving 260km round trip to meet friends for lunch. The only fault that I picked up with the venue is the Acoustics in the conference hall. I have had a few meetings there over the last few years, hearing the speaker is a problem. The 4 and 6 seater tables in the Dining room did not experience a problem with the Acoustics. Love going to Avontuur.

Just great. The food was very good, lot of options to choose from and evertthing was delicious. But the best thing was the service. Our waiter Brett was the best part of this evening. Very friendly, very kind and a good sense of humour. We really enjoyed this evening!

Henri's restaurant and wine bar offers a delightful dining experience. I was impressed by the great variety of appetizers, and the main courses were equally delicious. The staff was very friendly and attentive, making the visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend Henri's for a memorable meal. They also have a very good selection of wine. The temperature of the wine was excellent.

Fantastic experience cannot recommend enough. Not upmarket than the other places in Somerset west. Staff are extremely professional and helpful. Food is fantastic and great choice of both food and drink. Absolutely the best restaurant in the area

It’s a cozy, upmarket, inconspicuous restaurant, with an amazing menu. All three courses were amazing. I highly recommend the lamb’s neck. They had excellent staff and service. Our waiter spoke about the food as if he was reciting poetry. The also had a great wine list. Overall it was a lovely experience. Thank you.

Had a fantastic family meal at Henri's last night. Food was excellent as was the service. The only issue I have is that the smoked ribs were so delicious I doubt I'll ever be able to order anything from the menu on future visits.
