Acapulco

Acapulco, a beach resort town on Mexico's Pacific coast, is set on a large bay backed by high-rises and the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains. Made famous by the jet set in the 1950s and ’60s, it's known for its high-energy nightlife, beaches and golf. From its iconic La Quebrada cliff, professional divers plunge 40m into a small ocean cove every day and night.

La Quebrada, which means "ravine" in Spanish, is a famous spot in Acapulco where professional divers have been performing breathtaking cliff-diving shows since 1934. The divers leap from ledges at heights of 12 and 24 meters into the narrow inlet walled by vertiginous cliffs. They perform daily shows at specific times, showcasing their acrobatic skills to crowds of tourists and locals.
Our tour from the cruise ship brought us to several stops, among them an opportunity to see the world famous cliff divers. I am given to understand it is almost a family business. When I was there, the 13 year old daughter was preparing for her first year as part of the diving team. What I didn't expect was that the divers jump in the water across from the diving point and first scale the cliff to the jump off point. They judge their timings based on the nearby wind flag, and the waves hitting the rocks a short way off shore so as to have the water at its peak when they hit the water, some 130 feet below. Before jumping, each has an opportunity to visit a shrine near the jumping point.

Went for the 1 pm show. It was a great show. 100 pesos per person to get in, gate opens 30 minutes before the dive.
Mike M — Google review
it was a magical 3 months of life in Mexico and I especially liked and was impressed by Acapulco) the guys jumping off the cliff are both inspiring and very exciting.... courage on the verge of madness

A must see! We paid the $5 dollar fee to see the show and it is so amazing to see up close. After the show we had lunch at historic El Mirador hotel. Very safe and people were super friendly

The iconic cliff diving experience, dinner, and show. The weather was warm.

Wonderful experience, especially for my wife for her first time
Daniel M — Google review
Over a month stay in Acapulco, enjoyed watching the show from multiple vantage points and different times during the day... you can have a nice drink and superb view from the Hotel Mirador but it is also fun to go in the evenings down on the platforms and enjoy the energy of the crowds that form. The rock formations are stunningly beautiful and it is amazing to learn the history and tradition of the divers. I found a really great somewhat hidden little restaurant nearby that served the best tacos and micheladas -- especially after I kept returning. I tell everyone going to Acapulco that you haven't really been unless you've seen the Clavadistas.
Beyond G — Google review
This is a work out to get to. Take a hat, umbrella, a back pack for your "ice" cold water!!!! They sell drinks, but i recommend you take your own. Bc you will be desperate for water!!! It's a nice experience & my respects 🙏 🫡 to the divers.

Specialty Museums
Nestled in the heart of Acapulco, the Acapulco Historical Museum of Fort San Diego is a remarkable 17th-century pentagonal fortress that stands as a testament to the city's rich history. Originally constructed in 1616 to defend against pirate invasions targeting valuable trade ships returning from Asia, this impressive structure was remodeled in 1776 and now houses 13 exhibition halls dedicated to military history.
This historic fort, now a museum, is right next to the cruise ship terminal so its easy to visit this star shaped fort (with a moat and portcullis). It is full of cannon, excavations showing original foundations, and cultural exhibits representing both Spanish and Japanese early travelers and influences on the Mexican culture. You can also see Mayan artefacts, armor for horses, and knights, ancient sea chests, and of course you can wander the battlements and sight along the cannon barrels out into the city or bay.
Graham T — Google review
The exhibits are excellently presented and informative. Google Translate helped immensely as my Spanish is limited. Great history here.

Located atop a historic fortress overlooking Acapulco Bay, the San Diego Fort Museum offers a fascinating experience. It’s spacious, well-maintained, and features impressively realistic models that vividly illustrate important episodes from the port’s history. The museum’s galleries are neat and thoughtfully arranged, making the visit comfortable and enjoyable for all audiences. From the halls and terraces, you can admire breathtaking views of the sea—perfect for photos or simply soaking in the scenery. Free parking makes it easy to access, without any hassle. Whether you're looking to dive into local history or enjoy a culturally rich and scenic experience in Acapulco, this museum is a top choice.
Efrain C — Google review
I read a review that said the museum was in awful condition. The review failed to mention that it was a few months after the massive storm that destroyed Acapulco. Please ignore this review, your museum is up and running. We went today, museum is an excellent condition with interesting artefacts from Asia and Mexico. The models of the galleons that did the Manila Acapulco run are fascinating. I would recommend an hour or two for this museum.
Sheridan G — Google review
Recently remodelled, it shows the history and culture of the bay. It has a collection of maritime images and artifacts. Acapulco is not only a party and beach destination, it has a rich heritage and history.
René S — Google review
Loved the fort and the museum. Google translate was my friend as all the displays are in Spanish.

Outstanding view of the city. And the exhibits are superb: specially the one about AFRO-DESCENDENDANTS by Programmer and child prodigy, Juan Manuel G. LOPEZ

A great place in Acapulco! Few people know it’s the most historical place in this area. This historic museum has a beautiful art collection and expositions. We hope they reopen again soon. The architectural particular style makes it unique also. It is like a star structure. And also from here you have a lovely view of the bay. ☺️☺️☺️☺️

Nestled just a few blocks from the vibrant Zocalo, the Mercado de Artesanias is a treasure trove of local craftsmanship. With its charming tile-roofed shops shaded by lush tamarind and coconut trees, this market invites you to spend hours exploring its 560 stalls filled with unique handcrafts from across Mexico. From exquisite silver jewelry hailing from Taxco to intricate black pottery from Oaxaca, each item tells a story of tradition and artistry.

Island
La Roqueta, a small tropical island near Acapulco, is easily accessible by passenger ferries and taxi boats from Playa Caleta. While the trip can be overcrowded later in the day, it's recommended to visit in the morning for a more enjoyable experience. The island offers various activities such as snorkeling and hiking to attractions like the lighthouse and secluded beaches.
The Roqueta Island is a must for visitors in Acapulco. The main beach is very easygoing even for small children, and you will find all amenities there. It is also a great place to go for a hike, (bring extra water). You can go to the Light house, the other side of the island or to a small secluded beach, perfect for snorkeling or relaxing. You arrive to it by boat departing from between Caleta and Caletilla beaches, (there are direct boats=faster or the ones with Stops). It can get pretty crowded during vacation and more if you add to it a weakend.

(Translated by Google) Probably the most popular island around Acapulco, it has historically been a privileged place because due to its position, the waves are soft and the sand is fine, so its beaches are among the most beautiful in the entire city. However, the site has been overexploited for many years, due to mass tourism the beach has suffered from receiving too many visitors and unfortunately we found the main beach full of tables, almost no space for people to settle and completely invaded by local merchants who have done with beach control. The water is dirty, and with so many people constantly coming and going, the nearby reefs have been greatly affected.

Sights & Landmarks
Capilla de la Paz, also known as the Chapel of Peace, is a striking modern structure with pyramid-style architecture and a massive stone cross standing over 131 feet tall. This clifftop chapel offers breathtaking panoramic views of Acapulco Bay and serves as an open-air sanctuary. Visitors can admire the iconic forty-meter-high Cross and the Hands of the Brotherhood sculpture by Claudio Favier.
What a cool, peaceful place in the mountain. The view of the sea and the bay are wonderful. Free to enter, but you can leave a donation. Note, this is in a secure, private neighborhood; so you need to go through security. Only open until 6pm. The parking area is on the street. You will need to walk up a steep hill about 80 meters in length to get to the chapel grounds.
Rick T — Google review
La Capilla de la Paz is truly one of Acapulco’s hidden gems. Perched high on the hilltop of Las Brisas, the chapel offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the bay and surrounding mountains. The moment you arrive, there’s a profound sense of calm. The architecture is striking — modern yet spiritual — with a massive white cross that stands over 40 meters tall, visible from much of the city. The bronze sculpture of praying hands near the entrance is powerful and symbolic. Inside, the open-air chapel is simple but deeply moving, filled with natural light and surrounded by beautiful landscaping. We were greeted by the serene sound of birds and the rustling of palm trees, and even though it was a warm afternoon, the cool mountain breeze made it perfect. It’s not just a religious site — it’s a peaceful place to reflect, take in the view, and feel connected to something bigger. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Acapulco, whether you’re spiritual or simply looking for tranquility and beauty.
Marc P — Google review
Very high on a mountain, we passed several of what can only be termed mansions or luxury homes on our long coach ride up. Our guide suggested several Hollywood stars owned some of the houses, all of them with infinity pools hanging off the cliffside. At the top stands a quite modern chapel (possibly ultramodern in design) and several monuments, one for the Las Manos de la Hermandad (Builders). Tombs are present for prominent / wealthy families. Views from all sides are spectacular. In more rural areas, there is more honor to a family to be buried higher on a hill, and there is no higher hill than this in Acapulco. One one side I could see down along the entire bay of Acapulco and its waterfront.
Graham T — Google review
This chapel is located on a peak of one the highest hills serounding Acapulco. This is a beautiful place with great views of Acapulco's bay. The atmosphere is very quiet and placid. I highly recomnend visiting this place. Be aware that the chapel and the vista points aren't wheelchair accessible.

Italian restaurant
Becco al Mare is a modern, elegant restaurant with an exclusive atmosphere and a stunning view of the bay in Acapulco. The contemporary Italian cuisine focuses on seafood and is complemented by an extensive selection of wines. Recommended by the New York Times as one of the best restaurants in Acapulco, it offers high-quality ingredients and a variety of 15 Italian oils.
Food is good thought my favorite here has not been available the past two times I have come. They said it's kind of discontinued but when asked why it is still on the menu they did not know. The ravioli with the black truffle was amazing and the frutos rojos drink was were refreshing and delicious. There is valet parking available and make sure to make a reservation.

Excellent service and views. Food was only ok, not great. Must walk down 3 floors to the dining room. No elevator. Valet parking is not free but should be for the menu prices.

THE VIEW AT THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! The service is beyond amazing! They are very accommodating and very respectful! They have amazing tasting cocktails 🍸 I would love to give it five stars ⭐️ but I got really bad food poisoning. I had the Fish with Mushrooms cooked in wine. Hours later I was really sick into the next day. I would say it’s perfect start for a fun night of drinking and dancing but I would avoid the fish.

Wonderful place! A definite must when visiting Acapulco. It opens at 6 so you can see a breathtaking sunset while you enjoy the most extraordinary food. Ordered beef carpaccio, truffle ravioli and truffle risotto. It was delicious even though the risotto was slightly undercooked. The only really bad thing was the sommelier of you can even call him that. He arrived at the table, have me the wine menu and left, then came back. I asked for two specific wines and he said they didn't have them and then left. He never offered any suggestions or similar options or anything. I didn't mind because I'm not that much into wine but I couldn't believe they have someone like that working with them. Absolutely hated the restroom. The doors are pretty much see through, not exactly my favorite thing. Still a wonderful place and would highly recommend.

Excellent food (probably the best we had in Acapulco), Excellent service, and Excellent Atmosphere. A bit on the pricier side expect to pay around $50 USD per person for dinner.

DISCRIMINATION IS THEIR FIRST DISH I called to make a reservation and they told me “no sandals and no shirts” My friend was wearing shorts (very expensive ones) and the lady at the desk told us “I’m sure my supervisor will let you in, but if I had it my way, I wouldn’t let you in because I don’t like shorts” I was in shock! First, that wasn’t our fault, we followed the protocols. And second, it’s Acapulco! We are at the beach! Cmon! It was very uncomfortable. Food was overpriced. There are plenty of more great places around than this one.

Mexican restaurant
Zibu Acapulco is a must-visit hilltop restaurant with a stunning terrace offering breathtaking bay views. The chef, Eduardo Palazuelos, skillfully combines Mexican and Thai flavors to create a unique fusion of ingredients that promises to delight even the most discerning palates. The restaurant's design incorporates natural elements like wood and bamboo, enhancing its picturesque cliff-side location.
I was referred by a friend that it is a must visit. And definitely, it exciteed my expectations. The view to start with is breathtaking. Try to get there to see the sunset. Server/busboy Raul and Luis, I believe their name were did an amazing job. We booked our reservation ahead of time. And you can choose to have servers that speak English also which is cool. I have been to Thailand before and ate at 2 different Michelin-starred restaurants. This one should be there if they keep up with what they are doing. having a mix of a Mex-Thai cuisine was amazing! It was a 20 min drive from where we stayed, not sure if they would be able to call a cab for you if you are not driving. Luckily, I always take phone # of some cab drivers in case I need them.

Came here for my mom’s birthday dinner! The view is incredible- the sun sets behind the hill, but you still see the sky turn purple-pink! The food itself was mostly incredible as well. Very fresh and delicious Mexican-Thai fusion. Go wild on the entrees! The only dish I didn’t like was the Pad Thai - the sweet tamarindo sauce didn’t fit the dish in my opinion. The team was super kind and professional: from full on photo shoot lights to birthday desserts with candles - they are very attentive! Overall highly recommend this place!
Kristine S — Google review
Food is always FANTASTIC at Zibu, the views are stunning and the service is really good! We usually order to share, this time we got the lobster tacos and octopus as an appetizer, the day and night shrimp and the lamb for our mains! We ordered the carrot dessert shown in the picture (my fav, I always order this one) and they brought us the pavlova as an anniversary treat!
Aida F — Google review
Our experience at the restaurant far exceeded our expectations. Kevin and Raul were incredibly kind and attentive throughout the evening. Their food recommendations were absolutely delicious, and they surprised us with a complimentary dessert to help celebrate our anniversary ! such a thoughtful touch! The views were stunning, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was truly outstanding. We highly recommend this restaurant and are so grateful to Raul and Kevin for making our night so special.

Zibu Acapulco is easily the best restaurant in town. The food is absolutely delicious, and the view is truly spectacular. The service is amazing and incredibly attentive. It's a fantastic choice for a truly memorable meal.

If you haven't been to Zibu yet you are missing out. I made reservations for my grandma's birthday dinner and she loved everything we had. We were seated quickly and had very speedy service. Everyone from the staff was very attentive and helpful, with great customer service skills. We had multiple dishes and we were offered complimentary bread sticks and seafood chalupas. Their drinks were very well made and even offered non alcoholic mocktails. Aside from the food being delicious, the view of the city is breathtaking. They have ample space to wait for your table while you enjoy the scenic view along with great photo opportunities. Although there are covered tables this is mostly outdoor sitting. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Acapulco. I can't wait to go back.

Pros: Place is gorgeous. Nice view. Drinks are cute? Cons: Service is slow. Doesn't matter if you make a reservation. They overbook so prepare to wait more than half an hour after your reservation time. Food is not Mexican, not Thai, just ok.

Tony's Bistro in Acapulco offers stunning views of Santa Lucia Bay, allowing guests to dine indoors or on the terrace while soaking up the tropical climate. The restaurant boasts a unique fusion of French and Vietnamese flavors curated by Chef Erik Nguyen, who has also delved into molecular gastronomy. With a seating capacity of 350, this establishment provides an exceptional dining experience with a blend of two rich culinary traditions.
My wife and I chose Tony's for our date night in Acapulco and are thrilled that we did. The atmosphere is chic and trendy with greenery and eclectic artwork decorating the outdoor patio that has a view of Acapulco Bay that cannot be beat. We ordered the snails bourgogne, salmon carpaccio and duck magret and all of it was fantastic. The service was top notch. Our server, Enrique, was extremely attentive and professional and the owner, Tony, came over to introduce himself at the end of the dinner and bought us a round of after-dinner drinks. Overall five-star experience.
Nick G — Google review
Yesterday we went to Tony’s Bistro to take dinner. The parking was a little confusing at the beginning but as we found it they welcomed us nicely. Even tho we didn’t sit right on the edge, the view was spectacular. The place is decorated beautifully and seems to follow a concept. Only the music was a little too loud. The service was good only the presentation of the menu didn’t fit the overall concept of the restaurant. We ordered the “Linda” salad as a starter and it tasted good and had a unique twist. As a main dish we ordered the Korean style steak which tastes really good and the Rib-Eye steak which was also good but could have been a little more tender. They have a wide variety of drinks but unfortunately not too many non alcoholic ones. We had a nonalcoholic Mojito which tasted really good. The overall experience was nice and we had a good time with good food.

If you are looking for a restaurant that has a great vibe, awesome views and great food, this is your place. Make sure you have a reservation and I recommend you time it so that you can enjoy the sunset. The menu was good, the entrees are a good size and they all have great flavors. Their drinks are well crafted and balanced. I wished we would have more room for dessert but we were full. Prices are pretty average compared to U.S restaurants. The service was very prompt and attentive. Make sure you bring your phones fully charged because this one is an instagram worthy venue. I definitely recommend!

This is a must when visiting Acapulco! Easily made reservations for a party of 10 on a Wednesday evening. We arrived slightly before 7pm we experienced light sun, watched the sunset and seen the city come alive at night. Our dinner experiences lasted until 9pm. We were seated quickly with drink menus arriving promptly. Once we received our drinks, there was a long lag getting our dinner menus. After ordering appetizers and entrees, food was served in a reasonable time, especially for a party of 10. We closed the night with a small celebration, and they brought out desert and sparklers for everyone. However, between the end of dinner and that celebration, it was about 20 min wait. Don't let the wait time discourage you from visiting. They have more than jusy dining it's a night club, too.

The view is phenomenal of course, and the food is really good. But the service and hospitality is what makes this place stand out. We felt SO welcomed and taken care of, it was amazing. The chef even came by to say hello, and the whole night was just perfect. The live music was a sweet added bonus. Highly appreciated everything at this place!

La Cabaña de Caleta is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Old Town, right on the edge of Playa Caleta. This local favorite has a rich history as a bohemian hangout that attracted famous personalities like bullfighters and Mexican songwriter Agustin Lara. The menu features dishes that made the place famous in the 1950s, including shark tamales, seafood casserole, and shrimp prepared with various seasonings.
Friendly service, relaxed vibe and fantastic beach. And very cold beer. The shrimp in my cocktel was a bit overdone and I wanted some stronger flavors in it, but I'll be back for sure.

Loved this place, the atmosphere was great. They brought out chips and dips before we even ordered. Was a little sad cuz I tried to get fried squid in its own ink but they brought me fried squid. Wasn't till I finished that I saw a picture on the wall the proved my suspicion that my squid was not very inky at all.

This was the best place I found in Acapulco! The prices were decent considering what you are getting in return--good, clean food that isn't going to get you sick afterward. (Believe me, a lot of questionable places out there.) Family friendly environment. Also, this restaurant is right on the beach, so you can choose a table right on the sand under some umbrellas and eat while the kids are in the water. The owner prides himself on the great reputation of his restaurant and goes out of his way to keep it that way. I will definitely be back.

El Zorrito is a casual eatery with simple plastic tables and chairs, but it's the go-to spot for authentic Mexican cuisine. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Acapulco. Open to the road and all the sights and sounds. Great food in a delightful local atmosphere.

I’m not sure why this place has 3 stars or why people are complaining about the food being tasteless. I came with my family 5X to this place while in Acapulco and received delicious food as well as amazing customer service. If the food wasn’t good I don’t think we would have came here 5X lol. The servers are so attentive, when we arrive we are seated very quickly and asked for our drinks. We usually order the mariscos cocktail, pozole, fish fillet, and hamburger. Not sure what people are ordering but those options never miss for us. The food comes very quickly and the wait staff always knows what we need without asking.
