Orizaba

Orizaba is a Mexican city in the state of Veracruz. It’s known for its colonial buildings and the art nouveau Palacio de Hierro, brought from Belgium in the 1890s. The Veracruz State Art Museum shows work by local artists. Overlooking the city is the Cerro del Borrego peak, accessible by cable car. Northwest is the snow-capped Pico de Orizaba volcano. It forms part of Pico de Orizaba National Park, where lynx roam.

Nature preserve
Nature & Parks
Cerro del Borrego is a nature preserve that boasts lush greenery and two museums, as well as exciting activities like a zip line and aerial lift. However, visitors should be advised of potentially long wait times to ride down from the top compared to going up. It's recommended to bring a jacket for the ride, but the view from the top is worth it. At only 70 pesos per person, it's an affordable and enjoyable experience.
Great walking paths, miradors, historical points, etc. àt the top of the Orizaba Teleferico
Keith J — Google review
We came during rainy season so there ir alot of mud path. But it was awesome.
Krista L — Google review
Climbing the Cerro del Borrego is a safe journey. You can go up by cable car or walking. Upstairs there are museums, a chapel and spaces to exercise. At the top there is water, but I recommend bringing prepared food, there is an area with tables for pick nick. going up on foot is free, going up by cable car costs 4 dollars.
Sari M — Google review
One star warning: the wait in line to ride down was three times as long as the wait to go up. Bring a jacket. Otherwise it was a fun ride, and a beautiful view. A great experience for 70 pesos a person. We went at dusk and the lighting was good enough for selfies. Flew through the night fog on the way down. There is security and a snack bar at the top.
Lucas J — Google review
The climb is slippery but worth the view from the 3 lookouts. It took about 1.5 hours to climb. If you are not up climbing, you can take the cablecar.
Isaac R — Google review
Great view of Orizaba. Easy to climb with stairs / rocks from 20’ to 1 hour. Would not be possible with a caddy or wheelchair and would recommend to ascend with the teleferico. On top you’ll find a small shops (chips, water) and toilets.
Jonathan V — Google review
I loved this place, there so much you can do here, they have a zip line they also have a glass Skywalk very cool to view the city of Orizaba.
Diane E — Google review
You have to pay 80 peso if you get the cable car that takes you to the top. You can also hike it and it's free. Be ready, not for be beginners!

Sights & Landmarks
Poliforum Mier y Pesado, also known as the Orizaba Castle, is a magnificent cultural center in Veracruz. Originally built as a home for the elderly, it has been transformed into an elegant building surrounded by beautiful gardens. Visitors can explore various museums and enjoy dining at top-notch restaurants on the property. The castle hosts conventions, events, and exhibitions and offers a picturesque setting for photo sessions.
Before it was a home for the elderly, it was kind of a castle for the couple Mier & Pesado, now, it has been remodeled and looks amazing. It is very nice and comfortable to walk around all the hallways, rooms, and gardens. You’ll find interesting museums and good restaurants. Definitely a must visit place in Orizaba Pueblo Magico.

Enjoyed Madison and other restaurants here over many years. Also the museum is a captured look at a wealthy household of the past. My favorite is always the Don Quixote room. Spend some time and look around.
Don M — Google review
Beautiful building with many places to eat seating places to enjoy the view, internet, and my favorite of all the museum of Francisco Gabilondo Soler " Cri Cri". His music, biographic and children songs are fantastic. You can transport in time. It is good to bring your children. It is free and very clean too.

I was totally enchanted visiting Orizaba veracruz México Mier y Pesado park and museum is one of the best historic places of this Magical Towm

Highly recommended place to visit. Inside there are several museums including the one for Francisco Gavilondo Soler, the creator of Cri-Cri.

Everything good except… the playground for children, (that will be just next to the Christmas decoration) has games that are totally rusted, the metal parts can be dangerous for them. I Hope they fixed it as the place itself has become a city jewel.

This seems mostly for hosting events or walking around or a picnic. Not a ton to do otherwise.

The Palacio de Hierro, a stunning mansion designed by Gustave Eiffel in the Art Nouveau style, is an architectural marvel entirely made of iron. Inaugurated in 1894, it stands as the largest example of Art Nouveau in Mexico and the only metallic Art Nouveau palace globally. Visitors can admire breathtaking views from its balconies or explore its museums dedicated to soccer, beer, and space.

Several museums and a cafe are located in this art nouveau landmark located in Orizaba. The entrance fee is 50 pesos to enjoy this building to the fullest. Just beautiful and grandiose. You won’t want to miss it while in Orizaba.

Specialty Museums
The Museo de Arte del Estado de Veracruz is a must-visit for art enthusiasts and history buffs. With over 700 pieces spanning a century, the museum showcases works by artists from across Veracruz, including notable pieces by Diego Rivera and Alexander Von Humboldt. The museum offers a rich depiction of Orizaba and Mexican history through its diverse collection.
The arquitecture of the building is really beautiful and well preserved. There are a lot of historical pictures, very well preserved. They explain you about every pictures and the story behind it, it is very interesting. They also talk about a little bit of the history of the town and other places to visit.

Fascinating art museum housed next to a church with rooms facing a courtyard on the first and second floor. One of the best collections of 19th century lithographs of Vera Cruz and the Mexican railroad. A wonderful collection of Diego Rivera's early paintings was the highlight. Descriptions are in english and spanish.
Nikes62 — Google review
Extensive array of paintings and drawings by Veracruz- related artists, mostly 19th century portraits and scenery. I liked the Diego Rivera exhibit best of all. Our guide Jorge was knowledgeable and good company.
Kevin M — Google review
Houses works by Diego Rivera. Beautiful building and it’s free to enter. I also went to a classic music performance here that was nice!
Janaye G — Google review
Visited with my mom and daughter, you can find interesting lithography from foreigners and locals picturing Mexico and Orizaba. Good collection of paintings portray important characters. Best part: Picasso's!! You pay an insignificant amount and get access to everything including a guide for every area.
Gaby G — Google review
Beautiful museum that features a permanent collection of early Diego Rivera's works, plus other interesting temp exhibits throughout the year. Highly recommended.

Hiking area
Cerro de Escamela is a fascinating hill located in the region, spanning three municipalities with its main presence in the Municipality of Orizaba. It offers various climbs, paths, and viewpoints for nature enthusiasts to explore.
(Translated by Google) This hill is ideal for all those people who like to hike 🥾 the difficulty is easy-medium. More or less the same as Cerro del Borrego but without stairs. At the top you can see the Orizaba Valley from another point of view, and there is a camping area that is perfectly equipped, however, if you want to stay camping, bring a bag to throw your garbage, since it is very unpleasant to go up and find garbage there, you have to take care of the environment and even more so those beautiful places. If you bring a pet you must be careful because there are dogs in the houses that are there. In terms of security, I cannot say that it is 100% safe, but it is not unsafe either. I have seen families and single people go up and there have been no problems. I'll share some photos with you and if you want to see a video follow me on Facebook as: Chayotero Orizabeño (Original) Este cerro es ideal para todas aquellas personas que les gusta practicar senderismo 🥾 la dificultad es fácil-media.

(Translated by Google) This hill is incredible for its views of the Orizaba Valley and the highest elevations in the region. The time to climb it is 40 to 60 minutes depending on the route you take. There are several viewpoints and a camping area. Here are some personal recommendations: - It is better to go up and down the hill on the route that leads to El Espinal, the route along the mountain slide takes more time and there are dogs (be careful with your pets). - Bring repellent because there are insects. - Some paths are marked. - Go preferably accompanied. It is not a place that I consider unsafe.

(Translated by Google) One of the most interesting hills in the region, divided between the three municipalities in the area, with the greatest presence in the Municipality of Orizaba. It has different climbs, paths and viewpoints. If you are new to hiking, I recommend you go with someone and try to follow the most marked routes, since it is easy to get lost among the small paths. It is a mysterious hill, there are too many things to see and every time I go I find something new. There are 3 different viewpoints, two that look towards the municipality of Orizaba and another towards the municipality of Atzacan. There are two caves that are difficult to access but not impossible. There are numerous crosses which attract a lot of attention. At the top of the entire hill going up the path to the deer park there are many stones in which fossils are impregnated. Be careful when going alone since this hill has a lot of energy but if you don't believe in that, you are going to have a good adventure. My favorite hill in the region, there is no more.

Nestled in the heart of Orizaba, Marrón Cocina Galería is a delightful culinary destination that beautifully blends Italian and Mexican flavors. This charming venue offers a cozy atmosphere perfect for enjoying everything from aromatic coffee to refreshing drinks and delectable meals. Diners rave about the diverse menu, which features mouthwatering options like tender pork ribs with habanero sauce, flavorful pasta dishes, and vibrant salads.
Delightfull endulgence. All their food is good. We had a party of 19 people so I got to see and taste a lot of dishes. The calzones are huge! Mustachon dessert is delicious. The goat cheese cake is served warm and is absolutely 💯 devine. The ribs fall off the bone.

This restaurant instantly attacks you with the previous awards they got like 3 years ago and we now discover why... Given all the reviews and awards we ordered just what we wanted and without overthinking. Wrong decision. Starting with drinks. Only two beers available and while I was asking for the local one they recommended me one from the port, it was good but weird. The bread is the best, I think from all of our order. My wife got the bolognese pasta and it was good after some hot sauce. My salad was the marrron salad and it had a great taste, you just found a few of those wet lettuce leafs from old salad. And then it came, my rib eye! a 560 mxn rib eye!. I ordered it medium rare cause usually when it's not a specialized place I tend to order meat one level above my desired term but man, this came the most dried and tough you can imagine. No wonder why they took the octopus from the menu. It really hurts paying that price for such disappointment, please help the chef with a fast intensive curse on how to cook meat. The restaurant looks good and if you come to eat better stick to the easy options, pizza and hamburgers. Let me know if they work.
Enrique D — Google review
Great place... Good food, great waitstaff, albeit there was a bit of a mixup with a 20%discount offered for using cash but the change returned didn't reflect the discount... All was fixed... Staff was friendly ... Atmosphere was great ..
Charlie D — Google review
I believe we were given incorrect prices. ~$1300 MXN for (salty) shrimp/salmon pasta, two drinks (non-alcoholic), an empanada, and arrachera, and (sour) tiramisu. When comparing prices with the menu that was posted 1 month ago this should have cost half that. Very suspicious… we still gave a good tip though for the service.
Adam K — Google review
If you’re vegan or vegetarian, this is the place for you, Aztec soup is absolutely delicious and portobello crispy tacos just heavenly tasty 😋 I wouldn’t order pizza again though, they use poor quality cheese. It’s very cozy and they serve pretty fast.
Gloria G — Google review
Having seen menu pictures on reviews from long ago, was looking forward to a variety of vegetarian options but were quite disappointed as the current menu has hardly any main dishes that are vegetarian. The setting is nice around a courtyard and the service was attentive but neither the portion size nor the taste of food is worth the cost!
Krithika M — Google review
Nice venue, very cozy either to grab a cup of coffee (a lot of options), a drink, or to eat, it is a good option in Orizaba. I had the pork ribs which were tasty with a habanero sauce because they did not have the yakitori sauce (not great and unexpected for a restaurant though). The mezcal drink with “jamaica” and cinnamon was pretty good. The prices vary according to the what you order and there are plenty of choices: pasta, pizza, meat, fish, salads... Service was friendly but pretty slow specially on behalf of the kitchen and it should improve. Overall a comfortable spot to eat or drink something in Orizaba.

A classic spot right in the center of Orizaba. Maddison Grill is one of those places everyone in town knows — a local favorite for great meat, good prices, and a lively atmosphere. The steaks and grilled dishes are well-prepared and flavorful, with generous portions that make it a solid choice for lunch or dinner. One of the best things about this place are their drink promotions, often 2-for-1 or even 3-for-1, which make it perfect for hanging out with friends without spending too much. The service is quick and friendly, and the location couldn’t be better — right in downtown Orizaba, easy to find and always buzzing with people. Good food, great deals, and a true Orizaba classic.
