Seafood restaurant
Miller's Waterfront Restaurant is a charming dining spot located in Nags Head, offering stunning views of the Roanoke Sound. Specializing in traditional seafood dishes like flounder, scallops, shrimp, oysters, and crab cakes sourced from the Outer Banks waters. The restaurant provides a casual dining atmosphere where patrons can enjoy fish sandwiches, fried baskets, fish tacos as well as burgers and salads for lunch.
All-time favorite restaurant on our visit to the Outer Banks. Our server was incredible, was very well versed on the specials, and the contents of this amazing menu. The appetizers especially the brussel sprouts were great. I personally loved the red peppers that they had in them, they still had enough crunch while still being cooked perfectly. Each of us ordered a different dish and shared amongst ourselves so we all got to taste a bit of everything. I'd recommend the shrimp and grits, the seafood trio, I believe it was called the cart but don't quote me, as I loved the scallops and the crab cake and even though the shrimp wasn't my favorite part of the dish, it was still excellent. The drinks were really good here. We sat and ate downstairs but they also have a beautiful upstairs bar that overlooks the water. It's a gorgeous location and the people that run both the front and back of house are truly wonderful human beings whose skills and hospitality go unmatched . Thank you again for having us and we can't wait to come back and see you again!

This is a beautiful restaurant on the water. We waited about 30 minutes to get seated which was not bad. We ordered drinks at the bar and they were delicious. We ordered hush puppies for an appetizer and they tasted hard and stale with a freezer taste to them. We ordered the crab cake sandwich and chicken dish and the crab cake sandwich was delicious while the chicken was a bit dry. Overall we enjoyed our experience here.

I can see why Miller’s Waterfront Restaurant is such a local favorite! Excellent food, great service, and a beautiful setting. We arrived just in time to watch the sunset over the sound, which made the evening even better. The she-crab soup was incredible, rich and flavorful. The Miller’s house salad was just to my taste: fresh greens with fruit, dried cranberries, walnuts, feta, and a raspberry vinaigrette. I ordered the Trawl Boat dish, which was perfect for sampling: a crab cake, four large scallops, and six shrimp, all cooked to perfection, with mashed red potatoes and mixed squash on the side. My husband loved his scallops (a generous dozen), perfectly broiled. Service was friendly and efficient, and the whole experience felt relaxed and genuine. Highly recommend!

Wow! Love this place!! The atmosphere, especially with the outdoor seating overlooking the sound or upstairs open bar offer fantastic views. The food is also excellent whether you're grabbing lunch or a nice dinner, there are a lot of items to choose from. The staff are friendly, courteous and professional. I highly recommend stopping in for a bite!!

Food was amazing!!! Had the tuna nachos and tempura green beans for appetizers, both were so good. My husband got the mahi caprese sandwich, I had the filet mignon sliders. We loved both our meals and would recommend the filet sliders for a more filling option and the mahi sandwich for a lighter option but both were phenomenal. Our waitresss was so nice and the view can't be beat!

We dined here on our annual group trip. It was a large party of 24 people. The staff and management took very good care of us. Amazing service and delicious food and the sunset view was the cherry on top. We all enjoyed this place and will visit again the next time we are in town. You truly have some new fans Iin Raleigh, NC 🔥💯🔥💯

This a a quiet nice waterfront restaurant. The She Crab soup is excellent. Kinda like calm chowder with crab without the potato chuck. They serve with crackers. Their Tuna Nachos was excellent too. Good combos for lunch.

One hundred million stars! Beautiful views of the sound! Saw dolphins swimming in the sunset! AMAZING FOOD! Waiter was extremely helpful and welcoming and there was great live music the whole time!Everything was absolutely perfect. The 45 min wait was worth it! I would give it more than 5 stars if possible!

Blue Moon Beach Grill is a cozy restaurant in Nags Head, North Carolina that offers a unique dining experience with its nautical theme and original artwork. The restaurant prides itself on hospitality, affordability, and creative seafood dishes. Diners are the top priority at Blue Moon, as the staff ensures that those dining in have a pleasant experience without long waits.
There are many dining options in the Outer Banks area. This one stood out as we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes offered! They have a diverse menu, from land and sea to handhelds. The pricing does reflect that of higher end, but it's backed up with the well prepared entrees and presentation. Dining area give a casual and relaxed vibe. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Try visiting early, as peak hours tends to get fairly busy, and may have to wait awhile to get a table. Perfect place to dine for a special occasion, or just enjoy a flavorful meal.

The best food we have had in the Outer Banks. My husband and I were in town for a week, so it was convenient that we could snag seats at the bar. It was lively, but not distracting. The bartender (Alex) was great! Mussels - 10/10 Crab and Pimento Cheese Dip - 8/10 Beef Bulgogi (special) - 10/10 Crab cake - 8/10 ( wish it would have had more of a crust) Spinach and Arugula salad with Shrimp - 10/10 Will go back here every single time we visit the Outer Banks.

Courtney our waitress was excellent! As well as the food. Was the best seafood dinner we have ever had! And that is no exaggeration...😎🎉☄️⛱️👍 We loved every bite and the mussels were amazing! Can't wait to come again! Everyone needs some Blue Moon more than once in a lifetime, Billy Myers

Everyday we drove by lunch time or dinner time, the parking lot was packed. We decided to visit for lunch. The fried calamari was very good & different, served with a lemon butter sauce underneath the crispy calamari. The oyster Rockefeller was also very good with large fresh oysters & fresh spinach covered with breadcrumbs, cheese & sauce. My salad with blackened shrimps was so good. I would order it again. Wife ordered the swordfish & grits with collard greens. Grits were on the sweet side with the Cajun honey sauce. Greens were cooked perfectly. 2 thumbs up!

Bit on the loud side but, it was Saturday lunch/dinner time. Wait was 45 minutes so, we opted to go to the bar instead, where there was no wait to be seated. Were served by the bartender, who was very friendly and efficient. Food was great, portions good but, price was bit on high side. Being that they're basically in a touristy town, we weren't surprised. I got fish & chips, wife got a salad and we both shared Oysters Rockefeller and had diet cokes, since we don't drink alcohol. Food arrived warm, oysters first then our dinners. Totaled @$50 with tip @$6

Our second visit in 2 days! Excellent food, great service! Our server, Jamie did an outstanding job with our large dinner party! Thanks for a memorable meal!!

Our second year visiting the new location... Great yard and patio/deck and very accommodating of our hounds! They'll even do a pup-burger or a chicken breast for your doggos. Excellent food and attentive service, be sure to check the specials (Wahoo Mac!) and don't miss the Mahi-BLT!
Bil S — Google review
Walked in and was told it was a 2-2.5 hour wait ... that was a first. We decided to hang out around the bar and wait for somebody to leave. After about a 30 minute wait, our patience was rewarded. We ordered at the bar and decided to go with three appetizers and split a main course. The brussel sprouts were just delicious. There was a heaping portion and they were cooked perfectly. The Buffalo Shrimp were big and tasty ... I would have preferred a little more heat, but they were tasty. The Oysters Rockefeller were also, very good! We split the Seaside Bucatini. It had scallops, shrimp, artichokes, and grilled tomatoes in a pesto sauce. Really, really good! I think they could figure out a better system for seating, but its a tourist town. You can expect long waits. Can't wait to return to the Blue Moon Beach Grill!

Waitress very attentive and food arrived quickly. Both of us had the fried flounder meal which came with coleslaw and fries. Portion of cocktail sauce and tartar sauce comes with meal. Fish lightly breaded with one side still having skin on. Perfect crunch and inside tender. Also had Greek salad which was large enough for two people. Got dessert to go, key lime pie and coconut pie. Both delicious. Was there for lunch

Really impressed with this place! Food was phenomenal. Pictured are a pecan crusted mahi mahi with kahlua sweet mashed potatoes and chicken skewers that were part of a halloween special. Also, the best caesar salad I've ever had! Also, attention to detail is so great. They noticed my mom walking with a cane and walked us around the ramp inside rather than showing us to our table with stairs. Prices also fantastic.

The black pelican by far is the best seafood restaurant we found. When we got in they told us it was a 30 minute wait we only waited about 10 minutes. The place was packed. The servers are hustling. I started off with the crab and shrimp dip appetizer that was so delicious. My meal was the shrimp and crab broiled in a Bernaise sauce. That was also the most delicious thing I had all week! Lastly, we all got dessert because everything looks so delicious Keylime pie, banana pie, brownie sundae and peanut butter pie again best thing we had all week even our neighbors at the table next to us We’re trying to get us to share our food! So they ordered all what we ordered because it all looks so good. They did say that the cheesecake was not that great. Our waitress was very attentive, came around and gave us drinks checked on us often and was always right there to clean up empty plate plates. The parking lot has plenty of spots to park in and if you do have a long wait, there’s a bar outside with a patio you could sit and watch the beach. Go there and enjoy!

First time to outer banks. Found this restaurant and its the only place we will ever eat!!! My husband had the nut and berry salad.. OUTSTANDING! , and the blt wrap. I had the oyster orville and the baked brie they were excellant! Our waitress, Casy (sp) was fantastic!

Service was quick and courteous. The crab bake was great but the prime rib was not so great. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were also very good. We will return to try other offerings on the menu.

Absolutely delicious food, but the worst service I've ever experienced. The vegetarian option was very well thought out and presented. Our waitress acted like she worked at one of those restaurants where the wait staff is meant to be mean and couldn't be bothered to make us feel welcome or answer any questions.

Food was good but 2/4 orders got messed up, my husband steak was supposed to be medium rare but it came out still moo’ing. I sub’ed a side of sweet potatoes for regular mashed potatoes and they still brought me the sweet potatoes. Service was a bit slow my father order coffee that never came, kinda expensive too

Stopped in for lunch. Got there right when they opened at 11 where a line had already started forming. The food was really good and we enjoyed the service, shout out to our server, Wes and love the story behind the restaurant.

American restaurant
The Kill Devil Grill is a casual restaurant in North Carolina serving American fare. It is located just steps from the Atlantic Ocean, and features a unique dining car from the 1930s. The restaurant has been popular with locals and visitors to the Outer Banks for 15 years.
My family has been coming for years and I wanted to share some love. Came with a party of 4 around 4:15 and had no wait. Our server, Nicole, made us feel very welcomed and explained any questions we had. Mango margarita with mezcal was delicious. Perfect level of smokiness. My wife absolutely loved her seared sea scallops over pesto orzo. Kids loved their food and strawberry lemonade. My appetizers were all fresh and delicious. Can’t wait to come back next year.

The most Amazing secret in ALL of Kill Devil Hills.. We were staying within walking distance distance and we got on the list around 5:30-6:00 pm …we were told potentially an 45 min wait but because we were fine with a high top got seated in about 20 minutes. Our servers were Jen and John…. and they helped guide our decisions on dinner … we ordered the Bruschetta with Buratta cheese and Toasted bread points…. This was the start of an amazing dinner…. Next my friends and I ordered Seazar salad with grilled chicken, The Citrus Basil salad with blackened shrimp, And then pound of shrimp that was steamed with PBR and spiced. Everything was absolutely amazing. The salads can be an entire dinner and they were so good! We ordered signature cocktails that were absolutely delicious! We got a Blood Orange Cosmo, a Pear Mule and a classic Tito’s and Soda. Then they enticed us with some Key Lime pie with Vanilla wafer crust….OH MY GOODNESS! And As a second choice if you’re a chocolate lover they have a decadent chocolate pecan pie with homemade whipped cream.

Kill Devil Grill is a fun and lively spot housed in an expanded diner car. The original diner forms the bar area, while the dining room stretches out behind it. It’s clearly a local favorite, so expect a wait (we arrived around 5:45 PM on a Friday and waited about 45 minutes). Once seated, service was prompt, peppy, and friendly. Our food came out quickly and everything was delicious. We had the fish sandwich and the crab cake sandwich, and shared the spinach and artichoke dip to start. The fries were thicker than my personal preference but nicely seasoned and piping hot. The key lime pie was excellent (a generous slice easily shared by four!) We were also impressed by how well the staff handled a spill near our table: quick cleanup, safety cone, even a fan to dry the floor. It’s clear this team is well-trained and works together seamlessly. The bar area runs like a well-oiled machine, and the energy adds to the experience. It’s loud, but that’s part of the charm: a vibrant, bustling atmosphere paired with great food and service. Highly recommend for a casual, upbeat dining experience on the Outer Banks.

The Kill Devil Grill in Kitty Hawk is hands down the best spot in the area! The food is absolutely incredible, from the juicy burgers to the flavorful wings, everything was cooked to perfection. Their homemade ranch is to live for, seriously, I could put it on anything. Now, I’m a sweets person and let me tell you, their key lime pie is the best I’ve ever had in my life. One bite and I was sold! I even bought a whole pie to take home (made in house so make sure they have enough). The service was friendly and attentive and the entire experience was top-notch. If you’re anywhere near Kitty Hawk, do yourself a favor and stop by The Kill Devil Grill. You won’t regret it!

Absolutely PHENOMENAL EVERYTHING!!!! From Joni’s amazing, very knowledgeable and friendly service, to the just beyond delicious food all 6 of us had! The Mahi was so full of flavor and just flawless. And then came dessert! The strawberry shortcake I ordered to go but was coaxed into trying one bite while it was still warm. Let’s just say the cake didn’t make it home 😃. The music and vibes were just wonderful. It’s truly been awhile where I have genuinely enjoyed absolutely everything about my dining experience from beginning to end. Highly recommend visiting here whether you’re passing through or here for a nice beach visit!

First time here and will definitely come back!! Natalie (bartender) was great and explained all the options. I highly recommend the Hatteras clam chowder and everything we had was great! The chocolate chip pecan pie …. No words! Highly recommended!

Kill devil grill is the most popular restaurant in the outerbanks. It has an old world charm, I think the restaurant is quite old. They have amazingly fast service. The chicken wings were amazing, and the fish were good too. Bruschetta was good in the appetizers. The only drawback in this place is the wait time. We had to wait an hour and 20 minutes for a table for 4. Which only suggests how popular this place is. If you’re planning to visit keep a buffer of atleast an hour and they don’t take reservations. Their vegetarian food menu is limited. They have a live kitchen where food is freshly made.
Komal K — Google review
The food was worth the long wait. Luckily you can put your name on the wait-list, leave and check it online so you don't waste your time sitting at the restaurant. The stuffed flounder and ribeye were really delicious. The sampler tray was perfect to test the yummy apps. The key lime pie was a show stopper and worth making room for! Would definitely recommend eating here. We will be back

Basnight's Lone Cedar Cafe is a waterfront restaurant and bar that takes pride in serving locally caught seafood and offering an ample selection of beer and wine. The cafe is known for its commitment to sustainability, sourcing fresh fish, crabs, clams, and oysters from local fishing traditions. They clean all seafood on-site and select vegetables from nearby farms.
Very nice restaurant between Manteo and the barrier island. The place is loud. So, sit accordingly. They have a garden outside that helps with their meals. Check it out. Great views. Our server was Emma and she was fantastic. The food is good. Plenty of local seafood. You can bring in your own catch and they will prepare that for you as well.

My family and I came to OBX for a holiday weekend. We were so excited to eat here after specifically looking for locally owned restaurants with fresh caught fish, and reading about the restaurant and family on the website. First, let me clarify since I’ve seen this brought up in replies by the restaurant: my husband and I love nothing better than fresh caught seafood, and have eaten everywhere from Venice, to Hawaii, to St Lucia, including countless times on the southeast coast of the US. We are not “unaccustomed” to fresh fish’s flavor as the owner suggests on other reviews. The website advertises panoramic views and their outdoor area, and while I may have been confused, it was definitely misleading when we arrived to discover there were no outdoor tables. Still, we figured the food would be good and fresh. We were eating with our 18 month old son with special needs. We had to ask for a high chair for him 3x. We had to ask for a straw for him 2x. I am 3 years sober, and was happy to have found a single mocktail on their lmenu, but when I asked about an unknown ingredient, the waiter told me, “yeah I wouldn’t know” and walked away. We were brought our meals pretty quickly, which was nice, but in my husband’s words, “It looks like it came from a retirement home cafeteria” (pics attached). We both ordered off of the fresh Saturday specials menu (that they posted on their social media that day); mine was yellowtail served with scalloped potatoes and squash and his was tilefish on top of grits…except they weren’t. I was served a gray, watery, undercooked tuna steak with mashed sweet potatoes and sliced pickles and onions sitting in a bowl of vinegar. I didn’t know what my husband ordered, so I asked him if his soup was good, only to discover it wasn’t soup (check the picture). I asked the waiter, “wasn’t this supposed to come with scalloped potatoes?” He said, “I don’t know, did you read the description?” I didn’t have the menu still, so I said nevermind, but when checking it later on their social media, I saw I was right. My husband managed to stomach some bites of his food, and my toddler ravenously ate their fries; I didn’t eat anything. As soon as we got back to our hotel 30 minutes away, my perfectly healthy husband and son had explosive diarrhea. I have IBS and felt perfectly fine, so I guess you can decide for yourself what variables contributed to that. I had hoped for genuine care for the food and location like I’ve experienced at other family owned restaurants, instead we visited a tourist trap that makes garbage fodder. Maybe their fish was fresh caught at one point, but certainly not by the time that it made it to our plates.

Great food. Their flounder was very good. Enjoyed them being open and not packed as others were waiting to get in. Wanted a good seafood place. My kids had chicken of course. Our waiter was overwhelmed some and couldn’t find him when we needed him. That’s why I gave low stars for service. Good and atmosphere was great and even have a little shop inside. Would recommend going.

My family and I were enjoying coffee at Charis Coffee in Manteo while deciding on a place to grab dinner. I asked the local barista where to go and without hesitation he said, "Cedar Cafe". He told us that they had the best chef in the area and served fresh local food which piqued our interest for sure. Another Barista rattled off a few other places that she had to think for a while to list but the gentleman gave solid reasons why not to go to them. So we excitedly went to Basnight's Cedar Cafe. The restaurant was spacious allowing us to have easy conversation. The windows on both sides of the restaurant were viewable from our table and the views were beautiful. Our server was excellent. She was born and raised in the area and had wonderful things to say. When I asked her what she would eat if she were sitting down for dinner, she offered two suggestions without hesitation and I ordered one. The Snowy Grouper was fantastic, the sides were also phenomenal! I loved that they told us who caught the fish that day in the menu. Everyone enjoyed their meal. When we left, we noticed their pesticide free vegetable garden where they grow their own produce to use in their dishes. It doesn't get fresher than that! We look forward to our next visit for sure.

After waiting for only 30 minutes, which is nothing here at the OBX, we were seated at a table by a window. We were greeted by a nice server, but felt rushed to make decisions on what to order. I had a question between two things on the menu, she recommended the entree that was a special (rockfish topped with a crab sauce). The meal was tasteless. My baked potato was not quite baked long enough, and the fish was cooked very well but just was nothing special at all…hardly something I would recommend to someone. The jerk swordfish was good, but the one an only meal we would return for was the shrimp and grits…which I normally don’t care for (consistency thing for me). But they were very good and a large portion of meat. I think we just had an off night because this place came highly recommended by friends. We may try it again some time in the future but not any time soon, with all the other options.

Fantastic place to eat! Menu was vast and offered really good specials. I had the Flounder stuffed with crab imperial. Food was incredible. Menu even shows the name of the fisherman who caught the fish. Live music was great touch to the bar area. Must visit, but visit early. They open around 4pm

My husband and 12 year old son took a charter this morning and caught their dinner. After calling around for hours we finally found this establishment that would cook their catch. Colton walked in bouncing with joy wearing a smile from ear to ear with his fish in hand. Carolyn recognized him immediately and made a big deal about him catching his own dinner. She went out of her way to share his excitement throughout the restaurant! Then we met Jeff and Stacy (server in training) who continued to share the excitement of Colton’s accomplishments with the fish. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, but the way they made our child feel on top of the world was above and beyond anything we ever expected! We will be back on our trip next year! Highly recommend this restaurant!!!!
