Yekaterinburg

Yekaterinburg is a city in Russia, east of the Ural Mountains. It’s known for the golden-domed Church on the Blood, built in the early 21st century on the site of the 1918 Romanov executions. The Monument to the Founders stands by the banks of the Iset River. Exhibits at the nearby Sverdlovsk Regional Local Lore Museum include the Hall of the Romanovs, with personal items that belonged to the last royal family.

Sights & Landmarks
The Church on Blood in Honour of All Saints Resplendent in the Russian Land, also known as the Church of All Saints or Khram na Krovi, is a significant late-20th-century Russian Orthodox church and museum built on the site where the Romanov imperial family was executed during the Russian Civil War in 1918. The church stands as a prominent landmark in Yekaterinburg and features an evocative memorial to the family.
The Church on Blood in Honour of All Saints Resplendent in the Russian Land, Храм-на-Крови, was built between 2000 and 2003 on the orders of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian government. It was constructed to memorialize the Romanov family's tragic execution in 1918, with the Ipatiev House's remnants incorporated into its design. Since its consecration in 2003, it has served as a place of pilgrimage and remembrance for both Russians and visitors from around the world. Absolutely beautiful, mesmerizing interiors. Praised be the Lord

Interesting place to visit, enjoy the art on the walls and the history behind the church It could be improved if there will be more english versions to understand everything for non Russian speakers. However you can use google translator to get the idea. There is a lot to read to build a better picture and more knowledge

An absolute must to visit when in Ekaterinburg. It was build on a place where the last Russian royal family was killed. If possible take a tour to learn more about the history of this place.
Olga V — Google review
Beautiful church, long history... Really long history is to listen to. You can enter and watch the ceremonies, look at the historical images and text on the walls, BUT NO ENGLISH, so bring a tour guide. Outside have some snack stores, next garden decor of fish. Next to it is another beautiful building for writers.
SaM W — Google review
The church is dedicated to the last tsar family, whom were killed in Yekaterinburg. It's relatively new building, but still have some nice architecture. Make sure to check out the basement as well.

Arrived here on 20 May 2023, and it was a beautiful, clear sunny day. Interesting place…
Rahmah R — Google review
In Yekatarinaburg, the last Russian emperor Nicholas II and his family and four loyal servants, spent the last 78 days of their lives. In 1918 they were brutally executed in the basement of Impatiev's house. The house was demolished in 1977. A small wooden chapel (late 1900s) was replaced by this church. It is divided in two parts: upper level to honour All Saints and the lower "execution room". The red granite in the walls symbolises the blood. This is an important building in this tragic saga and the history of the City.

Art museum
Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts is a major art center with an extensive collection spanning two branches, showcasing European and Russian art dating back to the 14th century. The museum features a large collection of Russian avant-garde art from the 19th and 20th centuries, modern folk and naive art, as well as jewelry by local artists.
A wonderful experience, and not too huge but loaded with good sights. You're going to be intrigued by metalwork art, sculpture from precious stones of the Ural region, paintings from the 17th to 20th centuries, as well as Russian Avant-garde works from the early 1900s.

If you like arts, highly recommended to visit. You can see a lot of Russian art works from 17c' to 20c' and contemporary jewelry works which made by Ural ore. It is one of the biggest museum in the region.

A very affordable and rewarding way to spend an hour or two. The building it's self is quite nice and specious. The layout is simple and easy to follow. Collection includes bronze works, paintings, historical furnishings from the Hermitage, photography, and contemporary crafts. All Russian works.

One of the most picturesque locations in the city is arguably Plotinka Water Tower and its surrounding park. Along the Iset River's promenade, you will discover a unique monument representing a computer keyword, symbolizing Yekaterinburg's lively and contemporary character that sets it apart from other Russian cities. Vaynera Street serves as the city's premier shopping avenue, boasting numerous restaurants and stores.
Just be there, standing for a while hearing the water leaking. It’s so powerful while reading the story. Good to visit.

where the city comes alive. Beautiful and clean, it mixes history with everyday life—urban artists showing off their work, old men locked in intense chess battles, kids racing around, and couples snapping photos by the water. Speed boats cut across the river adding energy, while the embankment is lined with restaurants and cafés where you can linger for hours. It’s not just a landmark, it’s a living room for the whole city—equal parts culture, play, and people-watching paradis
Axel — Google review
The heart of the city, from here you can go every where. There is a beauty corridor for walkers where you can see most of the attractions of the city as museums, the buildings, restaurants, fountains, or the river "Iset" in summer there is a nice atmosphere. I don't know where it starts and where it ends but of course you should explore all this beautiful area. It's very accesible by bus, Subway or even walking (you can walk all Yekaterinburg seriously)

Very lively place. A must visit if you are visiting yekaterinburg. Various artists perform here at weekends.A place to chill. I have come here many times during my stay. Made a lot of friends here. Good place to make new friends.:)

Beautiful architectures and monuments often add to the appearance of the city and improve its aesthetic value. Further, if the site has some significant historic event associated with it then it becomes further imperative to preserve such a landmark. However, it is often observed that time takes its toll on any artefact and this is particularly true with buildings which are often subjected to all moods of the weather. Lives of such important structures can be increased and even the action of natural elements revered if timely repairs and reconstructions are undertaken as soon as the need arises. In my opinion, such beautiful structures that are a part of the city’s heritage should be preserved in order to allow the new generations to connect with the city’s cultural past. The repairs and preservation come at a cost which grows exponentially year over year. The real question that we need to ask is, who should bear this ever increasing price? Firstly, whatever is good for the society, such as the monuments in question, should be taken care by the people or their representatives. Who represents the people of a particular place better than its elected government? Therefore, the government should direct funds aimed specifically at preserving and uplifting the state of these beautiful historical structures. Secondly, if the building already forms a part of some private property, then the government should direct the funds to the owner of the same. Further, in order to prevent misuse of the funds, the government should appoint a committee to oversee the appropriation of the funds. In conclusion, the beautiful historical buildings must be preserved in order to safeguard the cultural heritage of our cities and the cost associated with repairs and preservation should come from the government.

A central feature of the historic centre of the city is Plotinka or The Dam. The wall is not easily noticed, unless you are downstream and see the flow through the sluice. Its built from Larch wood, which hardens in water and does not rot. The main street, Lenina Avenue, runs over the dam wall now. Do go downstream to see the large relief on The Dam wall.

Nice square, big flat good for skaters, you can see iset river, fountains on the opposite side, some history, statuses... make sure to go into the small tunnel, the redline will lead you there, usually youth sing Victor’s Tsoi’s songs there. Tsoi was the founder of russian rock, he was born in Leningrad, died at age 28 in a car crash, his songs are very famous.

Monastery
Church
Ganina Yama, located near Ekaterinburg, is a memorial complex and monastery dedicated to the Holy Imperial Martyrs. This site holds historical significance as it was where the bodies of Czar Nicholas II and his family were brought after their tragic murder in 1918. The complex features seven chapels, each honoring a member of the Romanov family. Visitors can explore a free museum with exhibits related to the family's history, although all information is presented exclusively in Russian.
Built on the tragic site tied to the last Russian czar, Ganina Yama has transformed into a moving and beautiful complex. Wooden churches and monasteries rise from the forest, each with its own quiet presence. There’s also a small museum that tells the story of the Romanovs and their final days, making the history feel immediate. Religious stores sell icons, candles, and books, giving it the atmosphere of both pilgrimage and living faith.
Axel — Google review
Great and a powerful place. The place pays tribute to Nicholas II and his family who were executed over 100 years ago. The place is beautiful and is free to visit. There are 7 chapels each dedicated to the members of the family. There's also a mini museum that has great exhibits and too is free to enter. The only downside is that all the exhibits in the museum are marked completely in Russian. So is everything else, so anyone who doesn't speak Russian will understand absolutely nothing. Also unless you are going to pray in the churches, the trip would be over in less than an hour because churches are the only thing here. The main problem is going back to the city. You can come here by bus or taxi (expensive) but going back is quite difficult because bus frequency is poor (one bus every 60-70 mins (in our case the bus came almost 3 HOURS later than it was supposed to)) and there is no network, only 2G works but very slowly so ordering a taxi is difficult and more or less impossible because cars aren't available nearby. Good place though.
Mustafa S — Google review
Monastery with 7 chapels, made for Romanov family whos bodies were thrown here in to the pit. It has a historical meaning as does religious. Its set in a beautiful forest and definitely worth a visit, has a museum too. Dont expected any other language here (in the museum or from anyone else), but russian..
Ivana R — Google review
Place with calm and quiet atmosphere. Free to go inside churches and also museum. Unfortunately in museum everything is in Russian. If you are not going to pray, in one hour you can walk through everything. They have info about how to get there by bus on their website.
Dominik S — Google review
At the site of the initial burial, in an old mining pit, of the Russian royal family and four loyal servants, the Monastery of the Holy Royal Martyrs was built in 2000. It's a large complex of 7 churches, each dedicated to a member of the murdered family. The church "union domes" glitter in the sun and the interiors are typically ornate and beautiful. There is an excellent museum under the church dedicated to Tzar Nicholas which is a must visit. Note, to enter the site, ladies must cover their head and wear the long skirts, available at the entrance.
Vincent O — Google review
How to get to Ganina yama; From dinamo station towards mashinostroyeteli. go into the last wagon, exit from it, after stairs take the only exit to the right, then left... from the metro exit you will see traffic lights in front of you, don’t cross the street, take left and walk for 200 meters you will see bus stop. There you will find the schedule (check photo) wait there for the bus. Take 223..as i understood bus 223 and 111 take you to Ganina yama, however ask before you enter the bus, they might change the rout for 111. It takes one hour in a bus due to stops and longer route, but it is nice drive to see different districts of Ektrbrg. Ganina yama is a very quite place, churches are built in the forest... good to read about it before hand, excursions are available at the same location, ask for it when arrive if you want to take one. There is also a cafetria next to the exit inside with more choices than the outdoor one.
Zen — Google review
Spent 2 hours in this monastery , with 7 wooden temples, each dedicated to the last tsar family (total of 7) of Russia, killed by Bolshevik. Bring a scarf with you, as they will ask women to wear it to enter. Also all women were asked to wear a red skirt, even if you are wearing long trousers. Some women with their own skirts (even knee tall) were allowed to enter without wearing the red skirt (why?).
Ella D — Google review
I get there by taxi...be sure the taxi wait for you. Otherwise no chance to return in city because no 4g available there. On the other side the place is amazing!

Monuments & Statues
Nestled along the picturesque banks of the Iset River in Yekaterinburg, the "Monument to a Keyboard" is an extraordinary open-air sculpture that captures attention with its playful design. This impressive installation, completed in 2005, features a massive QWERTY keyboard scaled at 30:1, boasting 104 concrete keys—each weighing around 180 pounds—with the space bar tipping the scales at nearly 1000 pounds!
Beautiful view, and a nice place to walk during the day. The nature and civilisation all together in one panoramic view to your eyes, where you can see the grean trees, the water, grass, the city, and the keyboard Take your wife, or partner, your family, or friend, and step on the keyboard on top of your favourite letter, then capture a photo for your future memory

Nestled in the heart of Yekaterinburg, "Kraby, Gady I Vino" offers a delightful escape for seafood lovers. This charming restaurant specializes in an array of crab dishes and other seafood delights at surprisingly reasonable prices, especially considering its inland location. Diners can indulge in tuna tartare or savor lasagna filled with succulent crab meat without breaking the bank. What sets this establishment apart from typical dining experiences in the city is its commitment to quality and presentation.
I've been around Yekaterinburg and have never been very impressed with much of what is offered in restaurants and bars. Normally places are just dressed up to look trendy and offer only meager portions with low to medium quality. This restaurant is VERY different from the Russian norm. I've been a number of times and not only the menu, but the wine list is quite impressive; and not only that, the prices are reasonable and quite accurate. The staff is friendly and the service is very good as well. If you are looking for a place to eat in EKB, than this should be your number one choice, bar none.

(Translated by Google) We visited the restaurant “Crabs, Reptiles and Wine” and were very pleased. We chose a set menu consisting of several dishes - each small, but in the end it turned out very satisfying. The presentation of the dishes was original and the flavors were perfectly balanced. I was especially impressed by the black risotto with seafood. We didn’t try the wine this time, but we couldn’t help but notice the impressively designed wine display, which created a special atmosphere in the establishment. The interior is stylish, cozy, and the service is attentive. A great place for lovers of seafood and gastronomic experiences!

Georgian restaurant
This southeast asian restaurant serves up authentic Georgian dishes and is popular with locals. The decor is reminiscent of Russia's Caucus neighbour decades ago, and the food is flavourful and hearty. There's also a full bar serving wine and beer, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. Lunch and dinner are typically priced at HK$133-408, while brunch is available from 11am-3pm. Parking is available on site, or you can valet for HK$38.
Georgian food is to me the tastier food ever. This was a magnificent gourmet experience, authentic Georgian cuisine, beautiful atmosphere, and right service overall. I went there on a Saturday night without a reservation, there were no available tables at the moment but I was offered a seat at the bar counter. I was so excited to try their menu that I didn’t doubt to accept. It was amazing! I had eggplant with walnuts to start, cucumbers and tomatoes summer salad, and small size kachapury, and fish shashlik. Seems a lot of food, well it was, but it was also an indulgence I don’t regret...

Absolutely lovely food, great environment, great service. Elegant seats and super attentive waiters. Quiet, good for conversations. Strongly suggested to book a table because it seems to be very difficult to get one without a reservation. The food was just delicious. Fair price for such a high quality
Cristian T — Google review
My gosh, this place is just Georgian restaurant, but with really snobbish spirit. When I came late (10 pm) in the middle of the week, the reception lady told me they are fully booked. I said it's fine, I can seat at the bar. There were free tables, so when she forwarded me to the bar, she saw it and offered me a table. People at every table around were super loud and really drunk. I got sick of that and changed to the bar. I ordered simple Georgian dumplings, however the barmen noticed for me that it will be the best dumplings in my life, very juicy so I have to wear a special 😂robe to deal with it. Guys, it was a very standard Georgian dumplings. So I would say if you travel around the world or just came to Ekaterinburg from Moscow or Saint Petersburg, this restaurant is okaish one with Georgian cuisine, not outstanding one. So do not expect any magic despite all reviews on different web site promised its the best restaurant in the city 🙄

Serbskaya Taverna is a highly strategic and superbly located establishment that offers delectable Serbian cuisine, reminiscent of the flavors found in Belgrade. With its generous portion sizes and exceptional quality, this restaurant guarantees an authentic dining experience. Notably, for Italians, there is a proficient Italian-speaking waiter available. Quite simply the best place we visited in Yekaterinburg. The manager is just the most charismatic fellow one could meet. First things first: the place is awesome. Some would say it's rather small than some other famous inns, but it's just it's warmth. Like you're home - up to ten tables, they managed to give some privacy wherever you might've occupied one and in the same time you can meet others if you want to. The waiters seem always ready for you alone, but letting you feel free to enjoy the time spent in any way you find appropriate. Now, the food and drinks - variety of Serbian cuisine specialities prepared and served so that you will always recall it when you feel yourself hungry in some other place or point of time making you have some compartments. LoL it's true. They're all pros, but they see every guest as special one. Even picking right beer for you or offering something for you to taste you didn't know such thing exist. And it's yummy. Very kind folks, they will somehow manage you not to feel yourself lonely. Like home. Somewhere safe. You simply trust them. 5 stars from me.

(Translated by Google) Delicious and inexpensive Vietnamese cuisine, which, judging by the conversations in Vietnamese from the kitchen, is really run by the Vietnamese! As in other similar establishments, the food is simple and incredibly tasty. I like that you can order half a serving of soup. Vietnamese establishments are famous for their huge soups; if you don’t eat that much, you can even get a second one! Large selection of rice and noodle dishes. Beautiful interior and good music!
