Stockholm

Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, encompasses 14 islands and more than 50 bridges on an extensive Baltic Sea archipelago. The cobblestone streets and ochre-colored buildings of Gamla Stan (the old town) are home to the 13th-century Storkyrkan Cathedral, the Kungliga Slottet Royal Palace and the Nobel Museum, which focuses on the Nobel Prize. Ferries and sightseeing boats shuttle passengers between the islands.

Historical landmark
The Vasa Museum in Stockholm is a must-visit attraction, housing the incredibly well-preserved Vasa ship, which tragically sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was salvaged centuries later. This popular museum offers an immersive journey through Sweden's maritime history, showcasing the meticulously restored vessel and providing insights into its ill-fated expedition. It appeals to history enthusiasts, maritime history buffs, and families seeking educational experiences.
Visiting the Vasa Museum was, without question, one of the absolute highlights of our time in Stockholm. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the breathtaking sight of the nearly fully intact 17th-century warship that gives the museum its name. Photos honestly don’t do it justice — the size, craftsmanship, and sheer presence of the Vasa are overwhelming in the best way. It’s one of the most incredible old-world ships I’ve ever seen, both in scale and in the intricacy of the carvings and details that have been so remarkably preserved. What really adds to the experience is the storytelling. There’s an almost cinematic quality to learning that the ship — after all the effort and grandeur that went into building it — sank on its maiden voyage just minutes after setting sail. That “spoiler” moment doesn’t diminish the tour; if anything, it makes the rest of the exhibits even more compelling. The museum does a fantastic job of unpacking the engineering flaws, the historical context, and the recovery efforts in ways that keep both casual visitors and history buffs hooked. One of the best surprises was the basement level. Unlike the ornate upper floors, it has a more relaxed, less crowded feel, with fascinating displays about the preservation process and everyday life on the ship. If you visit Stockholm, this is a non-negotiable must-see. Plan to give yourself at least two hours to really take it all in.

I didn't think the Vasa was going to leave the mark on me that it did. When I visited, I had a bad back and this museum had plenty of places to stop and rest and take pressure off my back. It's a good 7 floors. You can see almost every angle of the ship. The artwork and carvings on the outside of the ship was amazing to see the extensive detail and expressions. The size of the smallest mast was shocking. It really gave the vision of how large the ship truly is. We enjoyed the painted sculptures to show what they most likely looked like when they were on the ship. The museum took about an hour for us to tour. We didn't do the walking tour and we didn't have a guided tour either. But if you are extensively into history or the full story of the ship, I would recommend it. The gift shop has lots of souvenirs and is worth the stop

The Vasa Museum was a pretty awesome thing to see in Stockholm. The 17th century warship is so well preserved. In fact, it is still an incredible 98% original. There is an auditorium where you can watch a short film about Vasa, which was very helpful and educational. The ship is actually still actively being worked on to preserve it, decades after it was salvaged in the 1960s. If you are a visiting Stockholm for the first time, I highly recommend that you visit this amazing museum.
Liam C — Google review
The Vasa Museum is a very well designed and built museum, with lots of fun facts and information regarding living on the ship, what happened to it, etc. I found it very informative and interesting. And of course, the preserved ship was just amazing. I’d say the price is worth it, we spent somewhere between 2-3 hours here. It was a bit crowded, not gonna lie, but still manageable. If you are visiting Stockholm, you should definitely check out this museum!
Hajnalka K — Google review
A must-visit in Stockholm! The museum is laid out so nicely. Each floor is dedicated to specific “layers” of the ship, so you are learning about something that you can see directly from where you are standing. The bottom floor has very interesting stories about the people on it, as well as DNA research into who they were. We spent an hour here as we arrived close to closing time but easily could have stayed for much longer — wish we had two hours or more!
Tanya G — Google review
This was one of the most interesting museums I’ve ever been to. My initial thought was, how much content could there be for a museum about just one boat? Well tons! They found a way to highlight so many aspects of this ship’s short journey. The museum touches on the passengers, the construction, the history and the unfortunate fate of the ship’s maiden voyage among many other aspects. This museum is well worth your time.
Jason T — Google review
The museum was simply amazing. I had never seen or visited anything like it before. It made a strong impression on both me and my boyfriend. Although I’m not particularly interested in ship-related themes, I was very pleasantly surprised. I found it fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable, and two hours passed completely unnoticed. My boyfriend was also deeply impressed and said it is simply the best museum in Stockholm. We visited in the evening, and I think it’s better to come earlier to avoid time constraints. Also, during the day, the interior is probably brighter, which might make the experience even better.
Lizaveta K — Google review
This is an impressive museum. Not only have they built a building around the ship, but many different sections that highlight various aspects of the ship and life on it. The many different texts were informative and luckily not too long. Listening to the audio via qr code is an easy and convenient way to get a feel for the narrative around the ship.

The Royal Palace, also known as Kungliga Slottet, is a magnificent Baroque-style palace in Stockholm, Sweden. It serves as the official residence of the Swedish monarch and houses over 600 rooms along with three museums and a vast library. Visitors can opt for an admission fee that includes a guided tour to explore the grandeur of this symbol of Sweden's monarchy. The palace offers a glimpse into history and culture through its opulent Royal Apartments, Treasury, and Royal Chapel.
The Royal Palace is an absolute must-see in Stockholm. The state rooms are jaw-dropping — every ceiling, wall, and piece of furniture is so ornate and over the top, it’s like walking through a living piece of history. But the real surprise is the basement. It has a completely different vibe — less formal, more immersive — and might actually be the most interesting part of the entire tour. You get a closer look at artifacts, the palace’s foundation, and stories that feel more personal than grand. If you have limited time, don’t skip the lower levels. It’s the perfect contrast to the splendor upstairs and gives a fuller picture of the palace’s history.
Jarred F — Google review
I took a guided tour and it was very good! The history and original decor was beautiful! There is no natural light in many rooms as to protect the artwork, so it was a little difficult to get quality photos and see some of the fine detail. The tour was not too long, but the chapel in a separate section of the main entrance was amazing and free to enter!
Jake W — Google review
We didn’t have time to buy tickets for entry, but there is a small gift shop that you can visit without entering the palace. The items there make for lovely souvenirs, and the prices are very reasonable. The quality of the products is quite good, making it a worthwhile stop even if you can’t go inside the palace itself
Maruf H — Google review
Great Palace to visit. One of the best we have seen in Scandanavia. Well worth avisit. Allow at least 2 hours though. Depending on time of yesr you visit, buy tickets in advance.

Pretty expensive... But definitely worth the money if you enjoy history. We missed the noon guard change too so somehow try to make it, as it's something that will enhance the experience. It's interesting to visit the museum and be sure to occasionally look up at the ceiling for some beautiful designs. The palace was also pretty good and child-friendly :) gamla stan itself is a good place, tbh

Visiting the Royal Palace in Stockholm was an absolute highlight of my trip! The sheer grandeur and elegance of the building left me in awe from the very first moment. With its impressive architecture and rich history, it truly feels like stepping into a living piece of Sweden’s royal heritage. Each room we entered told a story, from the beautifully adorned halls to the treasures in the Royal Apartments and the glittering Crown Jewels in the Treasury. I especially loved the changing of the guard outside, which added a touch of ceremony and tradition to the experience. What I appreciated most was how well everything is preserved and presented. It’s not just a “museum,” it’s a vibrant place where history and tradition are still alive today. If you’re visiting Stockholm, the Royal Palace is a must. Whether you love history, architecture, or just want to immerse yourself in the regal atmosphere of Sweden, this place is unforgettable.
Andrei M — Google review
The palace was beautiful and there was some interesting art and architecture, but it’s not really that different from any other European royal palace to make it worth the 200kr/$20 ticket. If you are really into royals, this might be a more exciting place to visit. Otherwise you might be better off enjoying other sights.
TJ — Google review
If you’re somewhat interested in the royals or want to spend money, go for it. Otherwise I don’t believe it’s totally worth it. It’s just lots of mirrors and some artwork. Building was beautiful tho and staff seemed nice enough.

Museums
Skansen is a renowned open-air living history museum in Sweden, featuring over 150 historic buildings from across the country and a replica of a 19th-century Swedish town. Visitors can interact with craftspeople dressed in period costumes as they demonstrate traditional trades such as glass-blowing and cobbling. The picturesque gardens and small zoo offer opportunities to see Nordic animals like otters, brown bears, and moose.
The Skansen Open-Air Museum in Stockholm is an absolute highlight and one of the most unique attractions in the city. It beautifully combines history, culture, and nature in one place, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and experience Swedish traditions in an authentic way. Walking through Skansen feels like traveling across Sweden’s past. The historic houses and farmsteads, each carefully relocated and restored, bring to life different regions and eras of the country. Costumed guides demonstrate traditional crafts, baking, and daily activities, making the experience both educational and entertaining. A special highlight is the zoo within Skansen, which focuses on Nordic animals. Seeing moose, bears, lynxes, reindeer, and even wolverines up close is unforgettable, especially for visitors who may not encounter these animals elsewhere. For families with children, the children’s zoo is a joy, offering a chance to meet farm animals and enjoy interactive activities. The location itself is stunning, with panoramic views over Stockholm and its waterways. Whether you’re interested in history, culture, wildlife, or simply a relaxing day outdoors, Skansen has something for everyone. In short, Skansen is more than a museum — it’s a living, breathing piece of Sweden. A perfect blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty, and a must-see for anyone visiting Stockholm.

This ws my first open air museum experience. I loved it. There were even people role playing from the era they belonged. The historical walk was an amazing experience. Although all the places wete not open, I could still get to experience few of the attractions. I personally was amazed by the glass making workshop. The zoo on the other side was also a fun experience. The ticket also included access to the match museum. It was worth the money and time. I ended up spending 3+ hours, yet I could not go to all the spots. Children's would love this place no doubt. During summer, this is the best place to come along with family. Online tickets are cheaper then buying on spot.

Loved our visit to Skansen! We went in early November and despite some attractions being shut, we still had a fantastic day. You really need a full days’ visit to see everything. You can walk around and see people dressed up in traditional clothing, some people will also interact with you or answer any questions you might have about their house. We saw the glassblowing and pottery demo and spoke to the nice man in the spice shop who made us feel like we were transported back in time to the 1800s. Don’t miss out on the English-speaking tour that starts by the top of the escalators as the guide takes you to parts of Skansen you don’t get access to on your own. The animals were a real highlight, we also loved seeing the smaller ones in the children’s zoo (bunnies, guinea pigs, mice). The seal talk is in Swedish but they do a demonstration of the keepers feeding the seals and that is also lovely to see. There was a lot to see and not enough time to go to the aquarium on our visit so we didn’t do that. There are some food stalls, a nice sit down restaurant and snacks being sold so we were able to have a lovely lunch inside. We booked our tickets online ahead of our visit.
Tanya G — Google review
We had a great time at Skansen. The old houses and farm buildings were fascinating to walk through – each one comes from a different part of Sweden, so you really get a feel for how people lived in the past. Seeing the Nordic animals was another highlight for us; lynx, wolverines, bears, and moose all in one place is pretty special. We visited as two adults, but it’s easy to see how much fun this would be for my kids too, with the animals, open-air history, and hands-on activities. There are also cafés and nice spots to take a break, so you can easily spend most of the day here. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Stockholm.

Skansen Museum is an absolute must-visit in Stockholm! I loved exploring the open-air exhibits and getting a glimpse of how people lived in Sweden centuries ago. The traditional houses, workshops, and beautiful surroundings make the visit feel like stepping back in time. The animals were a lovely bonus, especially in such a well-kept environment. It’s a peaceful and charming place to spend a few hours, with great views and lots to learn. Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed Skansen museum. Was great to see local wild animals and different house buildings from Sweden. It would be great if more buildings were open to enter and explore but even without that it was a nice place to walk around. There were few cafes inside and some souvenir shops.

It was one of the best places I have ever been to. We booked the “Morning with animals” experience and it was one of the most interesting things I’ve ever done. The tour guide (shoutout to Martin) was absolutely dedicated to being as helpful as possible and explained everything in perfect English. As for the park, we got to see a lot of local animals and it was magical. The buildings are also stunning and incredibly beautiful, making you feel like you’re in a fairy tale. Would visit every weekend if it were possible.

ABBA The Museum in Stockholm is a must-visit for fans of the iconic Swedish pop group. It offers an immersive experience with a collection of memorabilia, interactive exhibits, and behind-the-scenes insights into ABBA's rise to fame. Visitors can explore a studio, dance floor, and enjoy engaging displays. The museum appeals to music enthusiasts, pop culture fans, and those nostalgic for the band's music. Families and children can also enjoy the interactive activities on offer.
Love this museum and learned a lot. I didn't really know much about them like how they were married to each other and stuff. It was fun and seeing the costumes was great. I have lots of photos and fun memories. It was def busy since I think it was the weekend so lots of tourist.

Visiting ABBA The Museum was an unforgettable experience! Even if you’re not the biggest fan of the band, the museum’s interactive exhibits make it fun and engaging for everyone. I loved stepping into recreated stage outfits, recording my own ABBA song, and seeing original memorabilia up close. The atmosphere is energetic and joyful, and the staff are welcoming. It feels less like a traditional museum and more like stepping into the world of ABBA. Definitely a must-see if you’re in Stockholm!
Kalina M — Google review
One of the BEST museums I’ve ever been to! It could be because I am an ABBA fan and so is my family, but another big reason is that the museum has so many FUN INTERACTIVE elements that there’s no way you ain’t gonna enjoy once you enter. From dancing, singing, designing your own costume, to playing the musical chess, I think this museum is just one of its kind and a MUST MUST MUST visit when in Stockholm!
Hardeep D — Google review
A fun museum!! I am not one to really enjoy museums and this one was worth the time and cost. The first display I saw was about the show in London with holograms. I never knew that and found it absolutely fascinating what they did! I loved the interactive 5th member of Abba stage, the silent disco, and the fun mirrors and photo taking opportunities. I enjoyed the Mama Mia area explaining the movie. As someone who never saw the movie, I found the information and designs interesting. There is a large section with post Abba music from all the members. I never knew the amount of music the members post group. This is a fun museum and I recommend it to everyone.
Lynn H — Google review
So much fun! Tons of original artifacts, storytelling, and interactive exhibits celebrating the music of ABBA. If you love this band’s timeless pop hits (and really, who doesn’t?), you’ll have a blast and learn something to deepen your connection with “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me,” and all the rest. Long live ABBA!
Simon V — Google review
For music lovers, this is a Must Go place if you're in Stockholm. In fact, this is probably the main reason why you should make a trip to Stockholm!! A pilgrimage of sorts for us especially the generation that grow up listening to songs with really good melodies. ABBA epitomizes Pop music at a time when folks crosses over to Pop. We'll always be listening to Dancing Queen, Fernando, Mamma Mia, Money Money Money, Thank You for the Music, etc. These are truly evergreens. Although it's rather small in size, you should expect to spend 2 to 3 hours here. It's so nostalgic, capturing and each display will bring you back to the years gone by. Maybe even some tears as you start reminiscing your younger days. Even if ABBA is not up your alley, this is still a must go place if you're into music. Enjoy!!
Ken L — Google review
Awesome experience with an audioguide (using your own smartphone, bring earphones) to tell the story of how the band formed, their inspiration, composition process, and more. There was also a fun, interactive part to sing with the songs from ABBA in a mini studio, a show to perform side by side with them, and a nice bar and restaurant in the entrance. I’d like to have seen more options to purchase in the shop.

Fine dining restaurant
Frantzén is a highly acclaimed restaurant in Sweden, renowned for its exceptional culinary creations by Bjorn Frantzén. The dining experience is intimate and cozy, with a seating capacity of 23 guests across three penthouse floors. The menu reflects Scandinavian influences and features high-quality ingredients prepared using exquisite cooking techniques. This hidden gem offers an immersive gastronomic journey with around 10 courses served to a limited number of guests during each seating.
The best dining experience of my life. The staff is amazing and food is world class. Worth every penny. When dining here, you are taken on a first-class journey through different flavors and textures and luxurious ingredients. There are literally no other comparable dining experiences in Sweden.
Felix L — Google review
Frantzén – a theatrical masterpiece where the food is only half the story Dining at Frantzén is less like going to a restaurant and more like attending a carefully choreographed performance. From the very beginning, the experience is layered with atmosphere, anticipation, and just the right amount of drama. You’re welcomed in a dimly lit lounge with a bit of casual small talk, then escorted — alone — through a moody corridor and into a lift that feels more like a portal than a convenience. Upstairs, things shift: you’re greeted more formally, offered an aperitif, and invited to preview the day’s ingredients — a beautifully arranged display that blurs the line between market stall and still-life painting. What follows is, quite literally, the show. Guests are seated around the open kitchen in a wide semi-circle, and the chefs — artists, really — take center stage. It’s immersive, elegant, and executed with military precision and genuine warmth. The food? Impeccably crafted. Balanced, beautiful, technically flawless. Though, I’ll admit — on a purely flavor level, I personally found dishes at AIRA and Maaemo slightly more to my taste. That said, Frantzén isn’t just about taste — it’s about total immersion. And on that front, they deliver an experience that will stay with you for a lifetime. Oh, and one more thing: this may be the only fine dining establishment where I was actually able to ask for a proper demi-sec or doux Champagne — not just brut, brut, brut, or brut. Respect

Fantastic experience at Frantzen. I had been to the sister restaurant Zen in Singapore several years prior and the concept there was quite similar, with the focus being on creating an interactive dining experience. One of our favourite parts about Frantzen was being shown the prep kitchen (which was absolutely spotless!), and the interaction with staff which reflected their pride in working for this institution. It is also clear that Frantzen puts effort into developing their people (all servers are certified sommeliers), and the knowledge and pride that every individual put into their craft made the dining experience so much more wholesome. Food-wise, the taste was a bit salty for my palette, but there were standout dishes like the crayfish and the French toast. Ambience-wise, it was a lot more relaxed than other Michelin restaurants I’ve visited. This being said, servers were attentive to diners’ needs - my husband and I joked that two seconds after we’d leave the table to visit the washroom, someone would come by and push our chairs in/ provide a fresh napkin. Frantzen manages to achieve a high level of attention to detail while ensuring that the atmosphere is natural and not stilted. What left the most lasting impression - and something that I’ve never experienced at Michelin restaurants prior - was the feeling of generosity that Frantzen left us with. For instance, they topped up my husband’s champagne and my drinks without charging for extra glasses, they had a dish which they paired with drinks in the menu, and they topped up our dessert / coffee. This left us with a feeling of abundance, and given the premium price that one pays for such experiences, made us feel that every kronor spent there was worth it. Kudos to the team at Frantzen for seamless execution, and we hope to be back in the future.
Zera O — Google review
Our meal at Frantzén was absolutely amazing. When we entered the building, we were greeted by staff in the lobby who are very friendly. They were happy to talk with us for a few minutes before our journey began. Once we were ready to start, the staff showed us to an elevator that took us up to the top floor of the restaurant, the lounge. Here you will be seated for appetizers and optional drinks. The food here was exceptional. After we were finished in the lounge, we were led downstairs where we were shown areas like the prep kitchen and wine cellar. Now we were taken to our seats in the main dining room, which is where the food is given final preparations in front of you. Every single dish was outstanding, but there were standout dishes. These dishes include langoustine; onion, liquorice & almond; and quail “bbq”. It is truly hard to describe how incredible each of the dishes served in this room was. The drink pairings were amazing also, with each drink complementing its dish so well. The level of service here, and the whole experience, was astonishing. The staff went above and beyond to take care of us. They will personally talk to you about each dish that is served. Once we were finished in the dining room, we were led back upstairs to the lounge after greeted farewell by everyone in the dining room, which was really nice. Once back in the lounge, we were served fresh baked madeleines from the oven along with a stacked spiral assortment of sweets. After we were finished in the lounge, we were once again greeted farewell, but by the staff in the lounge this time. We were then taken down the elevator back to the lobby, where we grabbed any coats and bags that we handed the staff before we started our meal, before being greeted farewell one last time by the staff in the lobby. Overall, this meal of Frantzén was the best meal I have had in my life, and to say it was exceptional would be an understatement. The level of service and attention to detail were phenomenal. The whole experience is truly indescribable. It was an extraordinary experience.

Ridiculously good, best food experience ever. The service was beyond anything previously, and I've never experienced food and drink pairings remotely close to this before, mind blown. For info, as we struggled finding it before our visit: Wine pairings are available in 2 levels at roughly 2900 and 6500 Sek, there is also a mixed wine and non alcoholic pairing as well as a non alcoholic pairing. The non alcoholic pairings are also incredible.(we did the lower tier wine pairing and the mixed pairing) Expect the visit to last at least 4 hours.

Definitely my best food experience in my life, the mix flavors, the service, the atmosphere… all incredible, refined, outstanding. The paired wine selection is also well harmonized, with right wines, and top quality

Very belated review but better late than never? We were visiting Stockholm and only got in for dinner because we were on the waitlist and someone had cancelled. And boy, were we glad we could make it here! Excellent dining experience from beginning to end, literally from the moment we walked in the door to the very end of the night. Service was friendly and genuine. Dinner was course after course of delightful bites! Highlights were the asparagus, the langoustine, the scallop, the turbot, and the duck! Pre-dessert, dessert, and post-dessert were equally memorable. Frantzen is definitely a splurge, it’s also an evening I look back upon fondly!

Swedish restaurant
Lilla Ego is a cozy and stylish restaurant in Stockholm's Vasastan neighborhood, known for its contemporary Swedish cuisine. The chefs, Tom Sjostedt and Daniel Rams, showcase their culinary skills with innovative twists on traditional dishes in an open kitchen setting. The restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere with professional service and a rustic-chic ambiance. Despite its popularity, Lilla Ego accommodates walk-ins with bar counter seating and space for larger groups.
Absolutely fantastic. Every dish was delicious, including the desserts—especially the apple one. The service was excellent, and our waiter was super friendly and had a great sense of humor. As expected for this type of restaurant, portions are small, but it's all about savoring the richness of each dish. If you're looking for a filling meal, this might not be the place, but if you enjoy a refined culinary experience, it's perfect. Reservations are probably needed in advance, but it’s totally worth it. The quality is outstanding for the price. The only downside to the ambiance was the limited space—people kept bumping into my chair. Also, the music felt a bit off for the vibe, but nothing major. If I’m back in town, I’ll definitely return!

We got 2 starters (the tuna tartare and fermented herring), the slow cooked pork belly and the crème brûlée for dessert. We also paired this with 2 glasses of white wine. It’s hard for me to explain why each dish was done well, but I can say that there were definitely no regrets and would order them again! The combination of flavors is exciting and delicious. The staff was very hospitable and always made sure we were well taken care of. There is quite some wait if you did not make a reservation previously, but I’d still recommend giving it a shot.

Hidden local gem in Stockholm! It was my second time here and noticed the menu has changed with seasonal dishes. All the dishes were great, attention to detail. I highly recommend to book in advance.

WORTH THE HYPE. This place was absolutely delicious and inventful! Casual, not stuffy and stylish spot. Had a 9.30 pm reservation and were sat outside. The server was friendly and fantastic. Heads up - Server did tell us that if we planned to eat past 11 we'd have to move inside as its in a quiet residential area. But no need to - the service and food delivery was prompt and we were hungry. My partner had a delicious pork belly main with pickled zucchini. I had the few bites he'd share, and it was mind-blowingly good. I had serious fomo. However, my dish was a steak with a brocolli disc puree on it was standout as well. In addition we had the scallop avocado ice cream appetizer - super tasty. Great service, great food. Don't miss out! I will think about this meal for years to come.

Honestly, this is the best meal I've had in recent memory. Every dish was mind blowing, had so much flavour and creativity behind it, I was surprised and delighted by everything. No dish was one dimensional, every bite unveiled new textures and flavours melding together. It was truly incredible. I'd fly back to Stockholm for this.

Swedish restaurant
Restaurant
Matbaren Mathias Dahlgren is a chic restaurant located in a luxurious hotel, offering innovative and contemporary cuisine. For those seeking high-quality food in a more relaxed setting, the city's bakficka bistros, including Matbaren and Speceriet, provide an affordable yet top-notch dining experience. These bistros are managed by Michelin-starred chefs who aim to make upscale dining accessible without compromising on excellence.
Matbaren in Stockholm offers fantastic food with great flavors and top-notch ingredients. The staff is friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall experience. A bit more information on the wine selection from the team would be appreciated. The only downside? The bar stools are a bit hard on the back. Otherwise, a great spot for a high-quality meal! We will be back

I do not understand the hype about this place and the whole concept is just everywhere. It is small plates but you each get a small wooden tray to eat out of like some quasi trough. It's small plates but not sharing, so we were leaning over awkwardly each others feeder boxes to try the other's dishes. Also it was very highly priced and in such small portions. Dishes ranged from simple seafood to Italian to more creative dishes of squid and fennel (miniscule size) but we did not understand what it was trying to be. The beer selection is also odd with them offering Mr. Dahlgrens personal beer which he recycles from old bread. I would have rather had the bread in the form of a bread and butter pudding...

This place was recommended for me to go to during my trip to Stockholm. I was also excited to see that it was a Bib Gourmand restaurant… but unfortunately this place did not live up to the expectations. I reserved a seating as a solo diner. When I arrived I was seated at the bar, but it was a part of the bar where it was basically just me. There was one couple on one side of me, separated by an empty seat and on the other side there were four empty seats. Which would have been fine, except the service was terrible. It took at least 10 minutes before the bartender even acknowledged my existence and talked to me about the menu (that’s on this wooden board). She mentioned an additional wine menu and I asked for that. Another 15 minutes goes by before she came back. In the meantime there is another person behind the bar offering other people bread, but she stops before she gets to me and just smiles. I was confused why I wasn’t offered bread and asked when the bartender finally got back to me. She said that you only get bread after you order (mind you they put butter in front of you in the first interaction, before you order). She handed me bread after I ordered, about 25 minutes after I sat down. She also forgot to hand me the additional wine list, and I had to ask for it again. It was such a weird experience to have as a solo diner who’s sitting on the side of the bar with very few other people. Last issue with the service was that I was give a wet napkin with one of the first dishes that came out. I used it and the ripped wrapper stayed next to me the entire meal (usually that would be picked up after the dish is finished, but not with this restaurant). Then there’s the food. It was fine, but not at the level I expected. There was only one dish, of the four that I ordered, that rose to the occasion… it was the Swedish pork skewers. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially if you’re a solo diner. You can get better food and service at other places in Stockholm.

Amazing food! nice setting, friendly staff and the food is an experience one must try! I am vegetarian and they were very good at replacing some of the dishes for me. Loved it!

Was visiting Stockholm for the first time for 4 nights and ate here twice! The people working were extremely kind and attentive. We enjoyed every dish we ordered - the pork bun is insane! happy with our experience thank you :)

Dined here for an early dinner in October (early flight the following day). Beautiful restaurant with impeccably professional staff. In fine dining, service can teeter on either side of what I would characterize as stiff/formal (like a crisp, starched shirt) or natural/relaxed (like cashmere or merino). Matbaren’s dinner service is the former. Unfortunately, this rigidity lead to some awkwardness on timing (we explained at the top of the evening that one of us would likely have three courses and the other only two. this lead to appetizers and mains being misaligned and a long wait for one of us between courses, as the team seemed unable or unwilling to pivot). The “pickles” dish left me underwhelmed and a little flummoxed. It consisted of pickled vegetables, but the only taste was vinegar. I expected seasoning – caraway, chili, dill, coriander…something else to make it interesting. It wasn’t bad, just bland. The cod was beautifully cooked – just barely set. The Bolivian chocolate, clearly a popular dessert, did not disappoint. Overall solid, but if I were to visit again, it would likely be for the lunch service. Perhaps the vibe is a little more relaxed.

Skimpy portions and pours but really outstanding food. The pork dish in particular stood out avoiding the extreme saltiness that seems to pervade Stockholm restaurants. Pork bun was delicious, so was the scallop with cheese. Portions were very small the cheese plate ridiculously so. Still worth it. Service at atmosphere excellent at the bar although if you don’t want annoying bar neighbors a table is better

A truly disappointing experience that fell far short of Michelin standards. We were seated at a tiny table with stools, where the cutlery, glasses, and napkin were awkwardly arranged on a tray — more reminiscent of a school canteen than a fine dining restaurant. The paper menu sat on the same tray throughout the meal, which only reinforced the lack of elegance. Tables are packed so closely together that you can easily overhear your neighbours’ conversations — something I’d never expect from a Michelin-star establishment. We opted for the set menu, but every dish was forgettable, lacking in both creativity and finesse. The presentation was equally underwhelming — plain and uninspired, nowhere near Michelin-star level. Service also lacked any real care or attention to detail — no amuse-bouche to start the meal, just a couple of small sweet treats at the end, which felt like an afterthought. Overall, the experience felt rushed and impersonal, as if the focus was on turning tables rather than delivering something special. We left £120 lighter and utterly underwhelmed. A Michelin star should be a promise of excellence — here, it felt more like false advertising. I dine at high-end restaurants all over the world and was genuinely looking forward to trying this one, but it was one of the most disappointing Michelin experiences I’ve had. Wouldn’t recommend.

Swedish restaurant
Restaurang Hantverket is a stylish and trendy eatery located in the leafy Ostermalm neighborhood. The restaurant offers a unique twist on classic Swedish cuisine, incorporating international influences into their dishes.
Picked this place on the recommendation of an amalgamation of sources and it delivered in a lot of ways. Per the photos, the only things that left me meh were the “snacks”. The cold and hot dishes however were fantastic and made me wish I would have just picked additional items off that menu. The cocktail of the day, an elderflower daiquiri, was my absolute favorite. Our waiter (jovial Swede with a colorful shirt) was fantastic and gave us the best service we had in our stay to Stockholm.

One of the best restaurants in Stockholm. Their menu is super creative and bringing new twist to flavors. Each dish was well presented and explained by the super friendly staff. The atmosphere is super cozy

Dinner at Restaurant Hantverket was an experience in every sense. I had the 4-course menu, and each dish was beautifully crafted, creative, balanced, and full of subtle, thoughtful flavors. You can tell there’s real attention to detail, not just in the food but in how the entire evening is curated. The space itself is elegant but not stiff, modern Scandinavian design with a warm, welcoming feel. The service was excellent: attentive, knowledgeable, and paced perfectly. It’s not just a meal here, it’s an experience, and one I’d absolutely return for.

Lovely food, drinks, service and atmosphere. There was a wedding function there too! We ordered 4 dishes each to share. They are not big portion, hence you will need a bit more to fill up the tummy. The restaurant is nicely decorated and good for groups as well as couples and single dining at the bar seats checking out the kitchen staff in actions! Highly recommended!

Fabulous small plates place—and really well priced for this quality of food (and being in Scandinavia). Very creative combinations that always win on texture, and sometimes can be a little too rich in flavour, but only just. A delight. Looking forward to returning. :)

Phenomenal dinner, albeit pricey but worth every penny. Our standouts were the flatbread with pork, smoked mackerel and thinly raw sliced steak but you truly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Also loved the drinks. You will need a reservation as it is quite busy even in a week night but we were able to book the day before.

A Culinary Gem Worth Discovering I had a fantastic dining experience at this restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented in a clean, modern style. What really stood out was the creative combination of ingredients; unexpected pairings that worked brilliantly and added a fresh twist to classic ideas. The service was excellent — attentive, friendly, and perfectly paced. From start to finish, we felt genuinely looked after. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a stylish yet relaxed vibe that made the whole evening even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality food in a setting that balances innovation with comfort. I'll definitely be coming back.

A busy place but they were still able to find a table for five of us. Really helpful staff who recommended picking 3 small plates and the food was beautifully presented with really creative flavours and textures. Nicest restaurant I’ve been to in months. Tack!

Brasserie
Restaurant
Brasserie Astoria, a lively and upscale dining spot created by the Frantzen team, offers a sophisticated yet vibrant experience. The menu showcases French-inspired dishes with a creative twist, including oysters Rockefeller and braised sweetbread with foie gras. The restaurant is particularly known for its halibut carpaccio and rose macarons.
5 stars across given price and what you get for it. Fantastic place for family, couples, or a nice business lunch or dinner. Professionalism in every aspect of all guest interaction, should probably not call it “the little brother of Franzén” because that is the 3🌟, but this is so good, accessible and just an amazing dining experience nevertheless. I’ve done lunches, dinners, business and family here and we will always come back.

Absolutely loved this place. It was a long time I wanted to visit but somehow haven’t in last 7 years. Now when I went I was happily surprised. Such a nice decor, ultra upbeat vibe and such good food. Absolutely loved the cocktails. By the bar sitting was also so much fun and it was great to see these lovely bartenders making awesome drinks. Food was top notch, even loved the garlic bread that came, it was so super yummm. Absolutely worth going a place. I am definitely visiting again for proper dinner

As we were first booked at the bar and asked with the reservation for the dining room the team did a very good job in not even doing the switch but giving us a wonderful quiet table. This came together with a perfect service by all of the staff. Not to mention the extrem good food and drinks! Short summary: just perfect!

The food was so good that I have to rate this place 4 stars for the food alone however dining out is more than just food, the service and vibe of the place has to also shine. The man on front of house we felt was rude and absolutely could not be bothered to smile or speak to us, just picked up the menus and expected us to follow him without saying a word, took us to the table and put the menus down and didn’t speak to us, didn’t welcome us or have any niceties which was super disappointing and already put us on the back foot. Service was very slow and our lovely waiter seemed rushed off his feet and although there were many other staff, none seemed to be sharing his huge number of tables. He turned our experience around though and was so friendly. The music and DJ was great, she lifted the atmosphere with her fun vibe and demeanour. The food was honestly brilliant, cannot fault at all, hence the 4 star review.

Stylish French-ish restaurant with excellent food, well worth a visit for couples, families, or anyone else. The menu of elevated brasserie classics is full of great taste and value - try the caesar salad prepared at your table - and don’t sleep on the dessert menu, with terrific vanilla ice cream, flambé plums, and more.

We had and excellent meal here. Great menu, lots of very good wine by the glass, and absolutely amazing service. Went here with my daughter who has celiac disease and the staff was so attentive. She gets really sick even with cross contamination and very seldom feels safe, but here they are in total control and she had one of the best restaurant experiences so far. Thank you so much🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
