Siena

Siena, a city in central Italy’s Tuscany region, is distinguished by its medieval brick buildings. The fan-shaped central square, Piazza del Campo, is the site of the Palazzo Pubblico, the Gothic town hall, and Torre del Mangia, a slender 14th-century tower with sweeping views from its distinctive white crown. The city’s 17 historic “contrade” (districts) extend outward from the piazza.

Palazzo Pubblico is a 13th-century brick town hall located in Piazza del Campo, Siena. It was built to house the Government of Nine of the Republic of Siena and now serves as the City Hall.
We recently visited the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena, and it was an unforgettable experience! The highlight of our visit was seeing the famous Allegory of Good and Bad Government, an incredible fresco by Ambrogio Lorenzetti. Located in the Sala dei Nove, this masterpiece gives a powerful visual representation of how good governance can lead to prosperity and peace, while bad governance brings corruption and decay. The details in the fresco are stunning, and it’s amazing to think about how it’s stood the test of time since it was painted in the 14th century. Aside from the fresco, the building itself is rich in history and offers a deep dive into Siena’s medieval past. The architecture and other artwork throughout the Palazzo are equally impressive. We spent about an hour exploring, but the Allegory was definitely the star of the show. The gift shop at the Palazzo Pubblico was a pleasant surprise, offering a variety of beautiful souvenirs and art-inspired gifts. It’s a great place to pick up something special to remember your visit. If you’re in Siena, this is a must-see spot that combines art, history, and culture in one amazing experience!

A must-see – deserves its reputation of being what one of the most beautiful examples of profane gothic architecture. The museum inside is nice, fairly short but has some beautiful pieces (and don’t miss the sculpture exhibition in the underground floors). The climb of the tower can be tricky to access (tickets are only sold on site without possibility of prior booking), but it is completely worth it.

Historical & Legendary building in the heart of Siena Siena is one of my favorite cities in Italy. It is a bit underrated compared to Firenze but I personally really like it. The castle is an extremely scenic building both during the day or during the night. This building sits on one of the largest squares in town Plaza del Campo so it is a really nice spot to come to have a drink, food, etc. All of town is here hanging out!

The museum in the Palazzo contains many of Siena’s greatest treasures. The ground floor is currently being used for an exhibition. Head upstairs where you will find are series of richly decorated rooms covered in frescoes. Unfortunately the fantastic fresco “effects of good and bad government” is closed. However you can still admire the massive gold shimmering, almost tapestry- like quality of the “Maesta”.
Steve T — Google review
Surprisingly a good deal. For €6 you can visit their exhibition, they have a free audio guide (download the app), toilets and at the back of second floor great view

Great balcony terrace to take beautiful pictures.

The exposition is interesting and the interiors are beautiful, but you have limited possibility to learn something about those with only a few descriptions in English. Also, with the tower closed temporarily, the price is quite high for one floor of exhibition.
Tommy R — Google review
The Palazzo Publico is situated in the famous Piazza Del Campo and started construction in 1297. Like most buildings on the square it is stunning. Also close by are the Duomo Di Siena and the Torre Del Mangia. A wonderful location to visit, have a coffee or meal, shop or just people watch.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Santa Maria della Scala is a former hospital turned museum and exhibition complex in Siena. The structure, built as a hospital in the 11th century, has been transformed into an extraordinary complex featuring frescoes from the 1400s and Renaissance art. It includes restored pilgrims halls and the chapel of the Madonna, along with new additions such as an archaeological museum, children's museum, modern bar, and bookshop.
We visited this place in July 2024 with a panoramic tour and stayed 1 hour there. Time was limited so i want to visit again if i have time🌾

As art fans we were happy to learn about the new exhibition on Italian Art between 1915 and 1960 during our visit to Siena. However, the staffs at the ticket booth did not give us clear information about separate tickets for different institutions ("the museum" and "the pinacotecca") under the same roof. We bought tickets following the misleading information that we could visit both the temporary and permanent exhibitions, only to figure out later that these exhibitions were organized by separate institutions, thus we needed two tickets each. We decided not to buy another ticket since we did not want to deal with the ticket sales team again. The exhibition itself was not too bad. However, English translation of texts for each section would have been helpful for people who cannot use a translation app. Having worked at art museums myself, I could not understand why they set unnecessary hurdles for visitors who want to visit the exhibitions and are also ready to pay for them. They need to be more considerate about customer communication on many different levels.

Something is deeply wrong here. I’ve never encountered a place like this before. From the moment you enter, a sense of disorientation takes hold. There are almost no signs, no maps, no clear path—just endless, dimly lit rooms that shift in theme from hospital corridors and Catholic relics to modern art, abandoned tunnels, snowmen, and a church that is most definitely haunted. Broken speakers hiss with static and ambient noise, sometimes giving way to slow, relentless drumming. The air feels heavy. We got lost—truly lost—and for a while, it felt like there was no way out. Staff were few, distant, and strangely indifferent. It felt less like a museum and more like a dream I couldn’t wake up from. 12/10. I’d go back. I think I have to.

Unforgettable museum experience, never want to repeat that again. Many of the Google reviews incorrectly reference photos and information for the cathedral and library across the street, which is not at all related to the Santa Maria della Scala. Less than 20 people were in the museum when we entered around 1630 on a Thursday. The ticket checker suggested we download an Android/iOS audio guide app for the museum, which seems impractical when the museum doesn’t provide WiFi. After entering there is little to “guide” you through the museum. The level you start on is fairly barren, the first room on your right and the big room with the frescos are really all you should bother seeing. The museum had several “temporary” exhibits which were modern era art projects, which seemed like they were expressly designed to ride the coattails of the primary exhibit. Downstairs there is an architectural display and altar with some religious relics. The Downstairs was equally baren with long hallways leading to empty rooms, and even a random dead end. Overall the museum seemed very confused with what they wanted to showcase and left you lost. We paid €9/ea for a ticket, but I’d value the experience around €3 given a ticket for the stunning cathedral and library across the street is €5.

Excellent tour of the Siena underground!!!!This apparently was the worlds oldest hospital. It has so much to see. Absolutely beautiful experience and a fantastic way to cool down mid day it’s it’s very hot- which it was. We spent about 2 hours here but we all wanted to see more. Lots lots of history! Etruscan and Roman artifacts. Beautiful!!!

Art is beautiful. But WORST unfriendly stuff ever in my italy travel in past 2 weeks. They never recommend combined ticket at all. And NO any information or sigh about it. Museums in Florence are extremely informative and sophisticated to guide line. I will never visit Sienna. Women stuff are so busy to have conversations. They don’t even think to help tourist.

This museum was one of the highlights of Siena for me. Entering a complex so full of history, there is so much to see! Every of the three levels is stunning, and you get a superb feel of the hospital that once was. The exposition of the original Fonte Gaia is made so interesting by comparing it with the model and the later copy. And finally the exposition on the history gives you a final touch of the broad history of Siena. This is a must do!
Maxence L — Google review
This museum was a joy to walk around and is located near the inner city of Siena. The entry fee is fairly cheap and cost about $20 for two people. There are a lot of different pieces of art to see in this museum. The lower two levels are very big and you will be walking around for a while to check out all of it. Highly recommend this place. It is located right across the street from the Duomo.

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Siena Cathedral, also known as the Duomo, is a 13th-century marvel renowned for its striking facade with symbolic black and white marble stripes. It stands as the main place of worship in Siena and dominates the city's skyline alongside the Torre del Mangia. The cathedral has a rich history, originally built to replace a church dedicated to Mary on a site that was once a temple for the worship of Minerva.
A wonderful example of religious expression and indulgence. Stories on the walls floors and ceilings with records of cardinals pope's and others. Puts II and III lived in a prosperous time and rewarded each other with a designated library. Wonderful construction and artworks. The floor which is usually covered, was bare for all to see.
Jamie T — Google review
Siena Cathedral is one of the most breathtaking religious sites in Italy - a true gem of Gothic architecture and medieval artistry. From the moment you arrive, the striped marble façade and intricate sculptures command attention, blending elegance with grandeur. Inside, the cathedral is a treasure trove of art and history. You’ll find works by Michelangelo, Donatello, and the stunning pulpit by Nicola Pisano, each piece telling a story of devotion and craftsmanship. The Piccolomini Library, with its vibrant Renaissance frescoes, is a must-see highlight. If you're up for it, the Gate of Heaven tour lets you walk above the nave and enjoy panoramic views of the cathedral’s interior - an unforgettable experience. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, the Duomo was originally intended to be even larger, but plans were halted by the Black Death in 1348. What remains is a powerful symbol of Siena’s ambition and artistic legacy. Whether you're an art lover, history enthusiast, or simply a curious traveler, Siena Cathedral is a must-visit. Allow at least a couple of hours to take it all in - you won’t regret it.
Annie S — Google review
A splendid cathedral, richly decorated inside. We hadn't bought tickets online, but lined up outside to buy tickets. The view of the cathedral from the square outside is fantastic. But what set it apart for us was the inside. The floors are covered in inlaid marble (I believe some of it is usually covered, but it wasn't when we were there), and there are many other fantastic pieces of art. Don't miss the small library to the side, also fantastic. Afterwards we spent some time in the gift shop - it is pretty good.
Henrik — Google review
A beautiful cathedral with beautiful artwork. It was reasonably old and had a bit of history to it as well. Tickets to see the cathedral was roughly 5 euros, but even the most expensive ticket to the museum, cathedral, and baptistry was the price of admission of a church in Florence, and was definitely reasonably priced. The biggest thing is that if you come from the town square, you will see the baptistry first, which is NOT where the ticket office or the cathedral is, and you need to climb either the stairs or get to the cathedral's square. Overall, was definitely worth seeing and was worth the day trip I took from Florence to see it.
Thomas S — Google review
A fabulous experience! Make sure though, that if you’re booking tickets in advance you are doing it for the one on SIENA, not FIRENZE. They look similar, but are in fact different. We got to go into the cathedral, museum (with the panoramic view), crypt, and baptistery. All very beautiful.

Truly amazing and stunning piece of architecture. The white and black stripes marble gives it an even more solidified feel than many other cathedrals in Europe. We were there at late afternoon, the lighting ambience was truly amazing and setting en
Thomas L — Google review
You look at this cathedral and the details of its construction and you wonder, how did they do this 800 years ago? (the cathedral was built in 1215). You definitely have to visit this cathedral. The entrance fee is €8 per person, but it's well worth it. The interior of this cathedral is something unimaginable.
Clovis C — Google review
Really just to say that I agree with the great majority of reviewers: Siena Cathedral is absolutely worth visiting. It looks great from the outside, perched on its hill, but the interior is even more impressive, with black and white stripes throughout. The ticket queue was quite long, so if you know ahead of time when you will be going it would make sense to book ahead.

Basilica Cateriniana San Domenico is a striking Gothic cathedral in Siena, Italy. Built in the 13th century, it is renowned for its association with St. Catherine of Siena, who was declared a patron saint of Italy. The basilica houses a frescoed chapel displaying relics of St. Catherine, including her head and finger on a marble altar from 1469.
countrysides, for the loveliness and variety of its scenery, siena is a city rich in history, traditions and works of art. An example that comes immediately to mind is the great number of Churches and their artistic patrimony which are located in all parts of the city. Among these is one which deserves a special mention: The Catherinian Basilica of St. Dominic, not only because it is the second most important Church after the Cathedral, but particularly because it houses the relics of St. Catherine (Her Sacred Head) and the original portrait of her painted by her contemporary and friend, Andrea Vanni. The interest in the life and works of this remarkable woman, proclaimed Patroness of Italy in 1939 has been growing steadily in the last few years thanks to the popularising efforts of the Dominican Fathers who have opened a gift-shop inside the Basilica where one may find various biographies of the Sienese Saint and good editions of all her writings in all the major languages. It is an excellent apostolate and means of communication. One can also obtain art books in most languages, video on St. Catherine and Siena, compact discs of sacred music, hand-made art objects, medals and crucifixes of gold and silver; all of which are highly appreciated by pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. Special mention must also be made about our rosaries. The gift-shop offers an enormous variety of all shapes and sizes: from the simplest to those made of wood, hard stones and precious metals. The people who run the shop are quite knowledgeable and will be more than happy to satisfy your curiosity about St. Catherine, our Church and Siena.

The interior of the Basilica of San Domenico in Siena is designed in a strict Gothic style, reflecting the austerity of the Dominican order. Overall, the space evokes a sense of quiet reverence and spiritual focus Beautiful place to visit
Inna I — Google review
We stopped by on our trip to Siena and discovered a beautiful Baroque-style cathedral. While not as ornate as the main Duomo, it holds immense historical significance, particularly for Saint Cateriniana. Make sure you look for the mummified head and finger, as well as the numerous other paintings housed within this cathedral.

Nice place to visit and pray. Free entry. There is a lot of free space inside which allows you better experience how huge it is inside. There are a lot of parking spots near the for trace which is 5 minute walk (in shadowed alley).

This is the place where Saint Catherine of Siena — one of the patron saints of Italy — used to pray during her lifetime. It was also from here that she set out for France, determined to persuade the Pope to return to Rome and restore the papacy to the Vatican. Sadly, she passed away in Rome and never had the chance to come back to her beloved hometown. However, part of her sacred relics is preserved here. I’ve also visited her other relics in the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Rome and in another shrine in Venice — the last two photos show those places. Saint Catherine was a woman of great compassion and remarkable courage.

La Taverna di San Giuseppe is a renowned restaurant located in the historic center of Siena, Tuscany. Housed in an ancient Etruscan building from the 3rd century B.C.E., this charming brick-and-stone space features an atmospheric Roman brick walls and an Etruscan cellar. The restaurant offers elevated Tuscan dishes, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts and history lovers alike.
La Taverna was one of the most delicious, beautiful, and unique restaurants we experienced in all of Italy ~ and we traveled between Rome, Florence, and the Amalfi Coast! Nestled in a charming, historic corner of Siena (just a short walk from a convenient parking garage), this restaurant is a true hidden gem that combines medieval ambiance with world-class cuisine. From start to finish, the meal was spectacular. We began with a rich and flavorful onion soup and perfectly sautéed tomatoes with creamy buffalo cheese. For the main course, the osso buco with polenta was a standout: melt-in-your-mouth, hearty, and satisfying. We also had a side of baked veggies. Desserts were equally unforgettable ~ a baked pear infused with wine, served alongside a delicious ice cream and a unique, crunchy Tiramisu that I’ve never had before. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is warm, rustic, and romantic ~ like stepping back in time. We had made a reservation a month in advance, and it’s worth noting that they offer two seating times for both lunch and dinner, which helps maintain a relaxed, intimate dining experience. Highly recommend La Taverna to anyone visiting Siena. Hope to return!

Best meal I’ve had all year while traveling the globe. Food was delicious. We had the Tuscan soup called Ribollita, Ravioli with saffron sauce and the braised beef. All were amazing. Also had wonderful wines by the glass. Tough to get a spot here so best to make reservations in advance or roll the dice and get there half hour before opening and they might be able to squeeze you in but low likelihood.

I was here 10 years ago and it had much more authenticity at that time, it is so much more touristy now… food came approx 4 mins after we ordered it (primi piati, so pasta, not cold appetizers). Food is ok, far from special. Service quick and very good. Wine list impressive, some great value finds can be seen.
Ines N — Google review
We ate pecorino souffle with pear, tagliata with truffle and cinghiale al latte. The first and the latest were just amazing, dishes with flavours and textures very different from the ones i usually have. The tagliata was disappointing, don't get me wrong, it was also good but since it was the most requested dish and also the most expensive i was expecting more from it. I also enjoy my meat rare, and since the plate was really hot, the meat continues cooking in it which i didn't quite understood the point. Overall, an excellent dinner with high quality ingredients and good food prep.
Joao F — Google review
One of the best restaurants in Siena, been there from recommendation and I am very happy with outcome. It wasn’t cheap but definitely worth every penny. We ordered some appetizers, after that a great Fiorentina steak with freshly cut truffles and long cooked beef in Brunello wine with potatoes puree with cheese and truffles. Of course we ordered a bottle of Chianti Classico. Staff was very nice and we had a great time. Great recommendation for every one. But it is absolutely needed to make a reservation beforehand.

There were lots of great places to eat while we were in Italy but our trip to La taverna di San Giuseppe was one of my favorites! I'll start by saying I love truffle & as you can see from this photo, there was plenty on my lunch :) We arrived right before their lunch service ended (we're sorry;) but the staff took us right in & made sure we had a great experience. The soufflé al pecorino fresco di Pienza e salsa di pere Is a great way to start. Warm, cheesy with a little sweet from the pear. It was fantastic! My steak was cooked perfectly & the truffle added just the right amount of earthiness. I had the 4 little dessert sampler but should have gotten another soufflé...haha. When we're back in Italy we're definitely going to spend more time in Siena & eat here again!

Amazing!!!! Did I say amazing? Best meal we had during our three weeks in Italy. I’m a serious foodie and was in search of my “wow” meal. This was it. The atmosphere is perfect as well. It is the quintessential Italian restaurant experience.

Incredible!!! Absolutely phenomenal meal at this restaurant in Siena. I found this place through research for our trip to Siena and I'm so glad I did. I called about 1 month in advance and the day of our reservation, there was a line out the door- for lunch!! After dining here I can see why. The food is incredible. The cheese souffle w pear was interesting in the best way. The lasagna was indescribable!! My only regret was not ordering the blue cheese risotto!! We came in with a toddler and a young kid and we're treated as well as anyone else in the room- the food says best restaurant in the city, but the atmosphere says casual enough for your toddler. Servers were so kind and welcoming. Will be dreaming about this meal until I return to Siena! Thank you.

Osteria da Divo is a charming restaurant located in a vaulted medieval hall with cavelike cellars, offering a sophisticated dining experience. The restaurant is situated in rooms carved into soft volcanic rock, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for guests to savor delicious Tuscan flavors prepared by highly skilled chefs. The menu features traditional local dishes such as ribollita, ravioli with boar sauce, and braised rabbit leg, all made with quality seasonal ingredients.
Amazing venue, the restaurant was beautiful inside and hidden away in a romantic italian alley. Perfect lighting and atmosphere. Staff was quick, professional, attentive and always came at just the right time. The food was visually very impressive, plates were given warmed, very polished. The taste was very nuanced but for us just a tad too delicate, really a sprinkle of salt would have made the dishes justice. The dessert however was amazing, the mango lime zest dessert shined!

A place worth coming back to — even after 20 years! I first dined here over two decades ago, and returning after all these years felt like stepping into a warm memory — only better. This historic restaurant, tucked away deep beneath the streets of Siena, has such a unique and intimate atmosphere. The stone walls, candlelight, and underground setting make it feel like a hidden gem straight out of a Tuscan dream. So cozy, so romantic. The food? Absolutely divine. Every dish was cooked with care and soul — but the truffle risotto was truly outstanding, possibly one of the best I’ve had in all of Italy. The pasta was handmade and full of character, the cold cuts perfectly curated, and the wine selection was top notch. The staff made the evening even more special — warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely attentive. They didn’t just serve food, they hosted an experience. Siena holds a special place in my heart, and this restaurant is part of that magic. I’ll always want to come back. ☘️

Wow. Don’t miss this medieval cave dining experience if you are visiting Siena. The atmosphere is SO romantic & the service is outstanding. Our server expertly helped us choose a wine, first and second courses; which all paired together beautifully. Make sure part of your meal is selected from their special “truffle” section of the menu. We were blessed to be seated without reservations on a Monday night… So plan ahead & book a table here! Easily our favorite dinner of our whole trip to Italy.

My favorite restaurant in all of Tuscany!!!!! This restaurant is absolutely incredible! The atmosphere is incredible, food and wine are wonderful!!! They sat my large family for a special dinner two days before my wedding in June and they were so accommodating and kind. I booked them months in advance to seat our large party and we definitely crowded the restaurant and had lots of people, but they were so hospitable and the service was excellent for such a large group!!! This is such a special spot! You feel a part of the Italian culture here! I will surely return next time in Siena! ❤️❤️

An absolutely wonderful restaurant! The food was incredibly delicious – every dish was prepared with great care and full of flavor. We’ll definitely come back – highly recommended! 😍

I’ve ordered the smoked salmon for appetiser. When the dish came, it took me a second to find where the food actually is. Portion is extremely small and way too overpriced (€19 for 4 pieces of smoked salmon). Taste is mid. Do not order this. Portion size is large for main dishes, but definitely on the expensive end. Taste is nothing special. I’ve ordered the Bolognese and the pasta is jaw breaking. The pasta is also pretty oily. The mushroom risotto is raw, and the truffle pasta is bland. The lobster pasta is the best out of the one’s we’ve tried.

We made a reservation for dinner in the cave and it was such a cool experience. It is a little musty in the cave but it didn’t damper our experience at all. The food was very good (the burrata pasta was a highlight for us). The lamb chops were ok but lacked seasoning, the duck was good. But the pasta was the very good! Service was great.

Osteria Le Logge is a historic restaurant in Siena, known for its refined Tuscan cuisine and charming retro atmosphere. The restaurant is adorned with books, paintings, and antiques, creating a warm and familiar ambiance. Housed in a former grocery with historic features retained over the decades, it has become a gathering place for intellectuals, politicians, artists, and gastronomes since its opening in 1977. The menu offers creative interpretations of Tuscan dishes alongside traditional homestyle options.

Charming interior and very enticing sounding dishes but, in my opinion, slightly falling slightly short in flavour. Don't get me wrong, but for the price I would expect more compelling flavours. Some of the dishes felt a little disconnected, where the flavours would not blend together but feel separate from each other (but as said, I'm no food expert so maybe this is meant to be 😊😊). All in all, enjoyable experience, a little imbalanced on the price, 75€ each for 3 courses...

We ate here twice in two days; once for dinner where they accommodated us last minute sitting at a table right at the entrance and the next day for lunch outside. The food was delicious. Over the course of our dinner the staff was more welcoming and by the end of the evening we were allowed to tour their wine cellar. Lunch the next day was delicious as well. It is easy to see why return visitors to Siena make this their "go to" place for meals. We can’t wait to go back!

We had an amazing lunch. The wine was excellent - a bottle of Gianni Brunelli 2017 Brunello di Montalcino. Three of us shared several selections suggested by the staff. I bought the updated “cook book” about the history and recipes of Osteria Le Logge, which extends our experience. We’ll come back when we are in Tuscany again.

The expectation where much more high that what we have find specifically for the price we have paid , the Food it’s self was lucking of flavours and ingredients where not to the level , like the non fresh truffle on top of the pasta. The restaurant's owner, known as "Bagoga," transitioned from being a jockey to pursuing his passion for cooking after an injury. If you are planning a visit to Siena , this is a great spot, not to be missed. Had a fantastic lunch. Mostly locals in a lovely family run historic site. It is beautiful inside the food is incredible. We had the vegetarian tasting menu. The handmade "pici pasta" is wow. It came with two different small veg souffles and homemade bean stew . The cheese cake is the best ever . The place is only 5 minutes from the Duomo on a little side street. We'll worth the search. Reservation suggested

An absolutely amazing experience, from ambience to service to food. We’ve had the surprise menu of four dishes and three glasses of wine with some extras and it was a real treat. Highly recommended!

Brick arches, clean linen, cucina senese, and a Slow Food nod — Bagoga has all the signs of a proper Sienese osteria. Pierino Fagnani, once a palio jockey for Selva, opened here in 1973 and it’s still going strong. Gnocchi al tartufo nero were light in texture, butter and seasoning, saved by a generous fall of truffle (7/10). The filetto di maiale cinto con lardo was the star: heritage cinta senese pork, tender and chargrilled, its clarity of flavour lifted by a veil of lardo di Colonnata (8.5/10). A proudly regional offering.

Glad booked in advance as there was a queue outside on a random weeknight. The quality of the food was great. Very comprehensive menu and nice staff. Feels authentic Tuscan – but still accessible to visitors. They seem to have stopped using paper menus and rely on QR codes… but their Wifi struggled to work- which was a bit annoying. Otherwise a nice little place

Great food! We got the special food and wine tasting for 70 Euro's per person. So much food, we couldn't finish it all. Fresh ingredients, local game dishes, and truffles. Delicious!

Fantastic experience at this restaurant! Very authentic and the food and hospitality was excellent. Angelo was super friendly and welcoming to me and my family. It was that good we returned the day after for dinner again.

We ended up here by accident, but it was a happy accident! We had the bistecca fiorentina set course, and everything was wonderful. The service was impeccable, the side alley was calm and quiet, and the espresso was magical. 10/10, would definitely recommend!

I would like to warmly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Siena. The food is amazing, and the service is very friendly and professional (both for locals and tourists). What's more, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and taste offered. In addition, the interior design is very nice. The concentrated flavor of Tuscany, great olive oil, a great Florentine steak, and wonderful wine from their own vineyard. If you want to eat in Siena, this place cannot be missing from your list! Greetings from Poland.

Nestled in the heart of Siena, Antica Trattoria Papei is a charming eatery that has been delighting diners since 1936. This beloved establishment boasts a cozy covered terrace where guests can savor traditional Tuscan dishes while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the city. Just a stone's throw from Piazza del Campo and conveniently located near Porta Tufi parking, it’s easily accessible for both locals and visitors.
What a wonderful place to taste local food. Located in a strategic place with a wonderful view, this place makes you fall in love with Italian food. Eduardo is a great host. He will guide you through the menu with his charming mood (by the way he can speak English and Spanish too ;) ). I saw how he interacted with the Asian girls and he even make the photo for them. Really kind. Don't forget to try the local wines.

Wow, just wow. We could take a seat without a reservation, which also had a quite nice view. This place was perfect to explore the authentic food from sienna. I had the pici with black pepper and cheese, and it was the best pasta I have ever had! (I definitely reccomend it) The menu offers all kinds of food, so for a picky eater like me it was perfect, and that for a reasonable price. But the best part was the service. Gosh what amazing people work here. I have never been served with this level of enthousiasm before. When your in Sienna and want to go out for dinner, then this place is the place to be! 👏

Antica Trattoria Papei offers a wide selection of traditional Tuscan dishes, all well-prepared and fairly priced. The atmosphere is lively and authentic, and the staff in the dining area are friendly and attentive. Vin Santo is kindly offered at the end of the meal — a nice touch. However, I strongly recommend booking in advance, especially on weekends, as the place is always packed. Unfortunately, the lady at the cashier — likely the owner — was extremely rude and arrogant. It really spoiled the end of an otherwise pleasant experience. I’m giving 4 stars mainly for the quality of the food and service in the dining room, but I’d sincerely suggest that the person handling payments be more polite — paying is still part of the overall experience, and it shouldn’t leave such a bad impression.

Enjoyed a dinner for 2 on Oct 7. Made reservation earlier that day for inside. Homey casual feel in second floor dining area. Gradually became full including back room area but was still comfortable and service was friendly and timely. Thoroughly enjoyed rabbit all’arrabbiata and vegetable soup - homecooked flavouring. They had a glutenfree dessert option (made somewhere else) that was a nice touch. If staying in Siena longer, I would definitely go back.

A little rough and “simple”, but fresh, tasty and full of people. Generous with the dolci and friendly service. House wine is paid from a bottle by “how much you drink”… it was “watery”… so cheap but not very tasty. Would suggest serving something more reasonable or at least have more than one option available .

I enjoyed a wonderful lunch in the market square behind Il Campo. The pappardelle al cinghiale was rich and full of flavour, and the service was excellent despite the restaurant being very busy. Prices were fair and overall it was a delightful experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Siena.

We had a very pleasant meal there. It was quite a chilly night so we were indoors, but the restaurant has a spectacular setting and the outdoor seating has heating to take the chill away. A lot of meat dishes on the menu. I am vegetarian so has the ravioli in mushrooms. The Sienese soft almond cookies for dessert were delicious!

Our experience at this restaurant was excellent even if we were seated in a basement with a tiny window looking at a parking lot. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The older gentleman who served us was on point, food was top notch and we all left full and satisfied. 125 Euros for 6 people with two bottles of wine is an amazing deal for quality food. 🙏😍
