The Regional Ethnographic Museum Plovdiv is housed in a stunning 19th-century building that was once the residence of a wealthy merchant. It is the second-largest museum of its kind in Bulgaria and offers a comprehensive look at over 6,000 years of history in Plovdiv. The museum's collection includes artifacts from ancient Thracian times to medieval pieces and more modern antiquities, providing insight into the region's rich cultural heritage.
Very beautiful and worth visiting! The entrance fee for adults is 8 leva (around 4 euros). The 2 floor museum has a lot of rooms and items showing how people used to live in the past. My advice if you go there, take a look at the ceilings as well, simply amazing!

It is a great place to learn about Bulgarian culture and history. I enjoyed visiting it in March 2025. It has a beautiful garden, so it is also good spot for taking break in touring the city.

In the first place I bought myself a cheap student ticket because I had to go on the included toilet very urgent, but after I came to peace with this I really enjoyed the exhibition showing Bulgarians' customs and tradition. Worth-visiting place if you're in town in my opinion!

This is a nice cultural museum with nice items they used in the old times. There is a 4.50 euros ticket to get in. It is a huge museum to see a lot of folclore things.

It’s as beautiful in the outside as it is inside. There aren’t many unique to this museum artefacts ( I think ) but the place is so historic, amazing, it’s worth visiting.

Nestled in the heart of Bulgaria, the Old Town of Plovdiv is a captivating blend of history and architectural splendor that beckons travelers to explore its ancient charm. This historic district, often referred to as 'The Immortal Plovdiv,' showcases a rich tapestry of cultures spanning over 6,000 years.
The old town is very beautiful and well peeserved. The colours on the old buildings are vivid. There are so many historical buildings and curches thanks to the Byzantine and the Roman Emperors. There are nice little cafes to enjoy coffee and souvenir shops to buy souvenirs. There are also antique shops with amazing things inside.

Very nice old town. Good for a nice morning stroll. Lots of restaurants and bars around. I can recommend walking side streets as well. Overall a good experience but nothing really spectacular.

The Old City of Plovdiv (ancient Philippoupolis) is a magnificent blend of history, culture, and architecture. Once a thriving Greek and Roman city, it still preserves its charm through cobbled streets, colorful 19th-century houses, and elegant churches and museums. Highlights include the Ancient Theatre, the Ethnographic Museum, and beautifully restored mansions like Balabanov House. Don’t miss the crafts street, where local artisans create and sell handmade jewelry, ceramics and traditional souvenirs, a lively reminder of the city’s creative spirit. A must-see for history and art lovers alike.
Dimitrios T — Google review
Plovdiv’s Old Town is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric places I’ve visited. The cobblestone streets, colorful Revival-era houses, and hidden courtyards make the whole area feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Every corner has something interesting—museums, galleries, small cafés, and amazing viewpoints over the city. It’s clean, calm, and perfect for walking, even if you’re just exploring without a plan. The architecture is stunning, especially the traditional Bulgarian houses and the Roman theatre. Locals are friendly and there’s plenty of information signs in English too. If you’re in Plovdiv, you simply must visit the Old Town. It’s easily one of the highlights of the city.
Minas A — Google review
It's a wonderful old city, but I definitely recommend avoiding it in hot weather. We think it's best visited in the fall. A stroller isn't comfortable due to the cobblestones. Sneakers are more comfortable. It's a pleasant city to visit.

Definitely worth visiting — it’s the only truly beautiful spot around. Just be careful with your footwear, as the ground is uneven with broken stones and no flat surfaces. Free entrance.

Nebet Tepe is part of the Architectural and Historical Reserve Area 'Old Plovdiv,' situated on three hills in the city. This ancient complex encompasses remnants of an old fortress, offering panoramic views of the city. The site reflects centuries of continuous human habitation, blending architectural styles from Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Bulgarian Revival. Nebet Tepe was once home to a fortress that now lies in ruins but provides breathtaking vistas of Plovdiv.
Maybe the best place to watch the sunset! The hill is very nice and offers a view on the city. There is an archeological site and several places where to sit and contemplate the sunset. This is an open air space, there is no entrance fee or whatsoever, you just cross the old town and get there. Some people bought some beers, but the guards told them that alcohol is not allowed in this place.
Borislav T — Google review
This is an important archaeological site in both Plovdiv and Bulgaria, with finds dating back 6000 years! It’s free to visit (which is unusual), and is far more than just a place to watch the sunset. There’s excellent signage in Bulgarian and English - spend a few minutes exploring this important site of cultural heritage.
Martha C — Google review
Nebet Tepe is one of the most beautiful and historic spots in Plovdiv. The walk up the hill is short and pleasant, and once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with an excellent 360° view of the city, especially breathtaking at sunset. You can clearly see the Old Town rooftops, the modern city below, and even the surrounding hills. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, perfect for a quiet break or a photo stop. A must-visit place if you want to feel the spirit and history of Plovdiv.
Dimitrios T — Google review
Probably the most beautiful evening view in all of Plovdiv. It’s absolutely worth walking up from the Old Town after sunset. Both the archaeological site and the surrounding old streets are beautifully lit, and the panorama over the city is stunning. If you want a memorable view of Plovdiv at night, this is the place to go.

Balabanov's House is a must-visit museum in Plovdiv's old town, showcasing the beauty of Bulgarian mansions from the National Revival era. Originally built in the 19th century by a wealthy merchant, it was later demolished due to neglect but faithfully reconstructed in 1935. The house features exquisite wooden ceilings and fine Ottoman-style furnishings typical of the period. Visitors can explore its two floors filled with 19th-century furniture and an exhibition of modern art in the basement.
This house is one of the cites from combined city tour. Nice big house, first and second floors are full of a furniture of 19th century. The basement contains exhibition of modern art. Toilet at the second floor is in excellent condition. You can pass to Hindliyan house through the courtyard (another one from the city tour).
Sokolov A — Google review
We visited this house in a cheerful mood with my friends, and when one of us simply asked if we could take photos inside, the lady in charge abruptly replied, “Not without a ticket,” and shut the door in our faces. We were already planning to buy tickets to enter; we only wanted to ask whether photography was allowed inside. Such rude behavior is truly disappointing and does not suit a cultural center like Plovdiv at all. I strongly condemn this attitude.
Dilara S — Google review
Ground floor exhibition which I found quite interesting. First floor you can see original furniture and decor…
Marta C — Google review
Beautiful historic building, perfectly renovated and with art exhibition in some rooms. Incredible craftmanship for example in the ceilings. Worth going.
Uwe ( — Google review
Amazing place, home to many art evens. The house itself is a world heritage, protected by UNESCO. Pay special attention to the wood carved ceilings.
Irina I — Google review
The house is not the original one from the beginning of the 19th century, since that was demolished, but a faithful reconstruction from 1935 based in every detail on the original plans. This probably explains the great shape the house is in. Typical for the Revival Period in Bulgaria, my personal favourite were the wooden ceilings, fine Ottoman style. The only thing I didn't like is that the house is now used to host temporary art galleries in an attempt to mix the old with the new with mixed results in my opinion
Klaus W — Google review

Hemingway Restaurant is a sophisticated dining establishment located in the heart of Plovdiv. It offers a diverse menu featuring European cuisine, with options such as pasta, seafood, and meat dishes. The restaurant also boasts an extensive wine list to complement the meals. Situated on a tranquil street, Hemingway exudes a bohemian ambiance that adds to its charm.
Refined taste and cozy atmosphere – Hemingway Restaurant, Plovdiv Hemingway in Plovdiv is an absolute culinary gem! Every dish we tried wasn’t just food—it was an experience. Beautifully presented, full of flavor, and crafted with great attention to detail. 🍴 The menu offers a wonderful variety, balancing tradition with modern flair. Here’s what we enjoyed: • Grilled vegetable salad with a slice of cheese – warm, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. • Green salad with avocado, strawberries, and nuts – refreshing, light, and full of vibrant flavors. • Classic Shopska salad – generously topped with shredded white cheese and made with incredibly fresh vegetables. • Spinach patties served with fresh greens and a light sauce – delicious, well-seasoned, and a great vegetarian option. • Homemade burger with crispy potatoes – juicy, well-prepared, and served with a tasty dip. • Tagliatelle with ragu – rich, hearty, and full of comforting Italian flavor. • And the star of the meal – Chicken Hemingway – tender chicken breast served over velvety mashed potatoes, with mushrooms and a delicate pepper sauce. Absolutely divine! 🌟 The service was excellent—fast, polite, and attentive without being intrusive. 🍷 The ambiance is tasteful and relaxing. Even the plates are artistic and elevate the dining experience. 🪑 The atmosphere is calm and cozy, perfect for a casual lunch, romantic dinner, or special occasion. 📍One of the best restaurants in Plovdiv. I will definitely come back—and bring friends. Good food is meant to be shared! Highly recommended! ❤️
Daniela P — Google review
Hemingway Restaurant – Overpriced and Underwhelming Hemingway in Plovdiv is, unfortunately, a highly overrated restaurant that left us thoroughly disappointed. The portion sizes are shockingly small for the prices they charge, and to make matters worse, the food simply isn’t good. • We paid 25 BGN for a goat cheese salad that came with two cherry tomatoes and five leaves of greens—completely unreasonable. • The sweet potato side dish we ordered was undercooked and hard. • The duck magret, usually one of my favorite dishes, was tough and chewy, and the rice served with it was bland. The dish was paired with a so-called orange bread, which had no hint of orange flavor at all. While the prices are sky-high, the quality of the food is far below acceptable standards. The only positive from our visit was the excellent service—the staff was professional, attentive, and polite throughout. Still, that’s not enough to make up for the poor food and inflated prices. I do not recommend Hemingway.
Evgenia Z — Google review
You just can't fault this place with anything. Food, service, ambient romantic music, everything is superb 2A+. Great selection of wines, the traminer was super good. The best place we've been to by far ! So rare to have such a good service, polite, not intrusive and knowing what to do. Well done guys 👍

Upon entering Hemingway, nestled near the beating heart of Plovdiv’s old town, one cannot help but feel the curious stir of discovery—a sensation not unlike stepping into one of Mr. Sherlock Holmes’s cherished haunts. The soft hum of conversation, the gleam of polished wood, and the discreet clinking of fine glassware form a symphony of refinement that would have pleased even Dr. Watson’s discerning sensibilities. The interior, with its artful balance of warmth and sophistication, conjures the atmosphere of a London salon from a more gracious age. Gentle lamplight plays upon vintage mirrors; books line the walls as though awaiting a reader between courses; and subtle jazz weaves through the air like a well-kept secret. Every table appears to have been placed with deliberate intention—each a private stage for an unfolding culinary drama. As for the service, it is nothing short of elementary in its perfection. Attentive yet unobtrusive, the staff move with a quiet precision that would impress even the great detective himself. One has the distinct impression that every guest is not merely served but rather studied—their preferences anticipated before a word is spoken. The cuisine, a masterful marriage of local tradition and creative flair, arrives with presentation so meticulous that it might well have been examined under Holmes’s magnifying glass. Each plate tells its own story, each flavour harmoniously aligned to produce the satisfying logic of a well-solved case. In the end, dining at Hemingway is not merely a meal—it is an experience, rich in detail and deduction, emotion and elegance. It is the sort of establishment where one lingers over dessert not out of hunger, but out of admiration. Were Mr. Holmes ever to find himself in Plovdiv, I have no doubt he would take a corner table here, lost in thought and flavour alike, exclaiming at last with quiet satisfaction: “My dear Watson, the mystery of true hospitality has been most delightfully solved.” Overall score 4.6/5 for a Culinary Perfection Restaurant

So classy and gorgeous place. Top service, extremely kind and high level staff. Food is extremely tasty, well prepared and so carefully served I was not sure I am still in Bulgaria. Top chpices for wine. We had live music that night and it almost made me cry. Great performance, music very well chosen and discreet, added so much to my experinece. I cannot thank you enough for the opportunity to feel so important and to spend so wonderfully a gew hours so I totally forgot some of my troubles and worries. Reservation highly recommended, payment by card available, very clean toilets.

Exceptional place to dine, not often that a restaurant gets it so spot on with food quality and service, and a little live music to make the ambience even more perfect.

Generally, I'm always a little bit reserved when I see a lot of positive feedback for this object, but I have nothing to say bad about this restaurant and I will be give it 5 stars with pleasure. The dishes were on high level. Service was quick and the waiter was competent for the dishes and also for the wines.

Memory Restaurant can be easily reached on foot from the centre of the City. Herein you find a soft and sophisticated atmosphere. During the summer they have a charming dehors with very nice wall and light decorations. The restaurant inside is very elegant and has some really nice corners that will catch your eye. The food is really at the eight of expectations. Very good raw materials and good dishes. Price and quality are absolutely balanced. Strongly Recommended.

Supreme menu and food styling in fancy place with excellent service. Why then 4 stars?! Just the next place in Bulgaria where you ask for the bill and you don't get the official document...it just don't suits for a place from such a class to hide taxes like this.
Lyuben G — Google review
The menu is quite rich, both with international dishes but also ones closer to Bulgarian cuisine. We took roasted peppers with cheese, eggplant with baked bread, beef biftek and pork meatballs. The food was quite good, perhaps the beef biftek too salty. The portions are mid sized, prices mid to slightly high category. The place is located near a market, somehow at the ground garden of an apartment block, but once inside it's neatly decorated. The service is good.

Beer garden
Rahat Tepe is a renowned restaurant located at the top of Nebet Tepe in Plovdiv, offering a vibrant atmosphere and authentic Bulgarian cuisine. It is popular among both locals and tourists for its traditional dishes and cold drafts. The outdoor beer garden provides stunning views of the modern city, while the cozy interior allows for enjoying the scenery from inside. Known for generous portions, it's advisable to share meals.
We had the chicken mix hot plate and fried zucchini, and everything was absolutely delicious. The food came out hot and full of flavor, with generous portions and great presentation. The view from the terrace is stunning — the perfect spot to enjoy a meal, especially at sunset. Service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting.
Black C — Google review
The food and service were great, and the view was even better. We had green salad, zucchini Greek style (was incredible!! )staffed cabbage leaves, chicken on a hot plate and beer. The portions are big, so it’s perfect for sharing. definitely worth visiting! Enjoy :)
Olga K — Google review
Very friendly staff, but it got crowded which increased the waiting time at several tables. If you want to have a table outside (with the best view) you definitely have to make a reservation. Otherwise they will probably have a table for you inside, but that was very hot with not a lot of cooling. Also the tables were quite sticky and a lot of stray cats hanging around in the restaurant. The menu and food were okay with even some surprising dishes like duck hearts, but everything was served quite randomly as snacks, which suits a beer garden.
S F — Google review
Large beer house, well promoted apparently. We were greeted and seated promptly during an afternoon with not many customers. Food was good but average. Fried trout, tuna salad, potatoes with three cheeses, Greek salad, beer. Cute kittens entertain the guests. Good view of the town from the terrace.

Great service and views of the city. The food was excellent and you will not go hungry, the portion sizes for the clay hot plates were huge! Located near the vibrant districts of Kapana and Old Plovdiv, Smokini offers a relaxing atmosphere and a diverse menu that caters to vegetarians and vegans without compromising on taste. The restaurant is highly recommended by tour guides and locals for its reasonably priced, high-quality food.
We went there because a friend recommended it to us, and from the moment we walked in, it was clear that the place would be great. We ordered the Smokini Salad, vegan gyoza, pork ribs, and Puttanesca pasta—everything was incredibly delicious. For me, the ribs were outstanding, some of the best I’ve ever had—extremely tender and juicy. Everything was well-seasoned and looked phenomenal. The service was also top-notch. We will definitely be coming back!
Danail D — Google review
Excellent atmosphere, I really liked the tractor/sewing machine decoration. The food was good, we got exactly what was expected, the plating was excellent. The only minor complaint was a very hot chili pepper in the traditional meat roll. I understand it should be there as a side but the baking of the pepper made the grilled potato very spicy. Our waitress remedied this superbly. I did not appreciate the sexist comment from the male waiter, but will leave the points for the waitress excellent service
Thimmy W — Google review
Food was tasty and nicely plated. Interior is very nice. The food was served fast. Even though they state there are a lot of vegan options in reality — not that many. My friend was struggling to find smth for herself. Weird that you can’t just replace side dish. We had one person lactose intolerant and we could only remove mashed potatoes and order baked separately. Fig salad was delicious!
Vitalii S — Google review
Tucked discreetly within Plovdiv’s lively city center, Smokini Restaurant offers a refined yet approachable dining experience that blends contemporary sensibility with heartfelt Bulgarian hospitality. The restaurant’s atmosphere is warm and thoughtfully designed — polished wood, soft lighting, and a balance between modern elegance and rustic charm. Service is attentive, professional, and confidently paced, reflecting a clear commitment to guest experience. The kitchen shows clear technical skill and respect for ingredients: the slow-cooked beef brisket is tender and deeply flavorful, while the sea bass fillet is perfectly executed with crisp skin and delicate seasoning. The signature Smokini Salad showcases freshness and balance, a fine example of the restaurant’s elegant simplicity. The Sea Bass Fillet is a study in balance and restraint. The skin is expertly crisped, giving way to tender, moist flesh that flakes effortlessly. The seasoning is clean and measured, allowing the natural sweetness of the fish to shine. It’s often paired with light vegetables or a citrus-accented sauce that lifts the dish without overwhelming it — a fine example of modern Mediterranean refinement. The Beef Brisket, by contrast, speaks of time and depth. Slow-cooked until it reaches perfect tenderness, it carries rich smoky undertones and a subtle caramelization that builds with every bite. The accompanying sides — often earthy, comforting, and well-seasoned — ground the dish beautifully. This is a plate that feels honest, hearty, and deeply satisfying, crafted with both patience and precision. Only local Bulgarian Wine selection is served here. Ciabatta bread could be better. Maybe we should have tried the baguette. Overall score 4.5/5 for a Bulgarian/European Cuisine

Torro Grande, located in the beautiful city of Plovdiv, offers a diverse menu to cater to various preferences. From homemade French toast and omelets for breakfast to American-style pancakes and wholemeal bruschettas with guacamole, there's something for everyone. This restaurant is renowned for its top-notch sushi and a wide range of international and traditional dishes. While the service may take some time, the quality of food and cocktails makes it worth the wait.
i am really amazed by the chefs and I would like to congratulate them. the foods came exactly like they were shown on the menu and the big television there. The service was fast and the waiters were smiling.
Nil Ü — Google review
There is ample free parking outside. The restaurant is spacious and decorated to a more modern design. The seating is comfy. There are smoking and non-smoking areas. The sushi was fresh, light, and tasty. The paella was wet and was not paella it was more like risotto. The seabass was so dry and tasted only of charcoal. The calamari was very greasy but had a light batter. If I had stopped at the sushi, all was good, but sadly, ONLY the sushi was good here. They do not serve Bulgarian beer, which was disappointing. I previously read the reviews regarding bad service, there was no problem with service, the problem is the kitchen that cook, they must not reheat or over cook the fish.
Maryjayne A — Google review
The only good thing was the Beef Pepper Steak, which was excellent. Everything else was unacceptable – we were first seated at a dirty table, the soup we ordered never arrived, service was absent for half an hour, and when the burger finally came the fries were cold. To make things worse, after we paid in cash the waitress didn’t even bother to ask about change and simply kept the rest as a tip. Extremely poor experience. Definitely not recommended.
ירין א — Google review
Yes, the restaurant looks good and has good atmosphere, but that’s all. We waited quite a while for the waiter to take our order, then probably around 15 more minutes for him to come and tell us that they ran out of the wine we wanted. Then it took them 1 hour to serve our dishes. He forgot to bring us one Ice Tea, that we ordered at the beginning and it was then included in the bill. I personally don’t recommend this place.

I had the pleasure of dining here, and the atmosphere was unique. Its sophisticated atmosphere immediately captivated me. From the elegant decor to the impeccable service, every detail was considered. I loved the food as much as the atmosphere. Each dish was carefully prepared, creating an extraordinary dining experience. The ingredients were fresh and the flavors were perfect in every bite. This restaurant is perfect for a romantic dinner or a relaxing night with friends!

Very nice restaurant! The menu is quite varied and surprisingly for me - everything turned out super delicious! The staff was great too and the atmosphere is welcoming and comfy - outside it’s more like a bar and inside it’s a restaurant. The only thing that could be better - the desserts. I liked it very much!

Unsatisfying experience. The place is huge and well, modern made with good service but food is way overpriced. Really small portion of sea food, not well prepared. I was so hyped about gazpacho with ceviche shrimps and it was a disaster. It was broken sour and there is a barely half a small shrimp in it. The salad we ordered wasn't fresh either. Stake was okay but again way overpriced. Fish was fine and actually they do great broccoli soup. So go for them and should be fine.

We came for brunch. Service was polite but slow for everything, drinks and food. Avocado toast had good bread but not enough avocado paste and the pouched eggs were hard boiled. English breakfast could have better quality meat since it was a bit tasteless. Mushrooms were good. Serving great Julius coffee. Sushi was tasty as well as the deserts.
