Art museum
Museums
Maidstone Museum, located on St Faiths Street in Maidstone, is a regional museum boasting an extensive collection of over 660,000 diverse artworks and artefacts. The museum's collections cover a wide range of subjects including Old Masters, fossils, dinosaurs, Japanese artwork, and ancient Egyptians. Notably, it houses Kent's only human mummy - the 2,700-year-old Ta-Kesh. Additionally, the museum regularly hosts temporary touring exhibitions to keep the experience fresh for visitors.
This museum has always been and remains one of my favourite places to spend time in Maidstone - it is free to go in and the place is fascinating, from the historical and beautiful building it's housed in to all the exhibits themselves. As we (my son and I) hadn't been for a little while we discovered it'd had a bit of a revamp inside on this occasion; some new exhibits wonderfully laid out, lots of interactive things for any young children to discover and try out on the way around. Not forgetting of course that the story of Iggy, our local celebrity dinosaur is told along with much more of 'Kent's Earth History'. Don't forget to look up too - there's a whale on the ceiling in one area! The Ancient Egyptian exhibit is a favourite of mine; it's quite peaceful which makes it feel rather respectful too given that the Mummy of Ta-Kush is in there... there's definitely an air of quiet serenity about her. Everything is informative and well laid out throughout the museum; an eclectic mix of ancient artefacts right up to more modern history too. The staff were friendly and welcoming as we walked in out of the rain. The place is as accessible as they can get it with lifts to upper floors and ramps where possible. Obviously, given the age of the building (no doubt a listed building at that) there are some areas that have small sets of stone or wooden stairs that can't be replaced by a modern ramp but the vast majority of the displays seem to have been designed to be user friendly no matter the age or ability of who's visiting...myself included! I'm an older soul shall we say, and stairs can be my nemesis! It's a fantastic place to get lost in and we ended up in there for a good couple of hours looking at everything...absolutely loved it.

- FREE ENTRY (besides the Titanic part) - I definitely recommend the fossil section as there is some excellent specimens of dinosaurs - one to keep an eye out for is the London clay exibxit which shows some rare species of bird, fish, shark and turtle.

I made an unplanned visit to Maidstone Museum which is free to enter, and it turned out to be an informative and engaging experience. The exhibits covered a wide range of topics, from birds, insects, and animals to dinosaurs, British soldiers' history, fashion, and ancient human history. It was a fascinating mix of displays from around the world, making it a well-rounded experience. It took about 2 hours to explore, and I was thoroughly engaged throughout. It's a great place for a family visit, especially with children.

Nice free museum with some interactive tasks for children and separate dinosaurs area. Anglo-Saxon treasures, dinosaur bones, Japanese art, Victorian fashion, global explorer finds, military medals, taxidermy displays, paintings and sculptures.

Free museum, you need to pay for the Titanic exposition though bug it was still worth it. Diversified, organized and well presented.

Absolutely amazing collection of items! I spent 3 hours here looking at everything and could have spent longer if it didnt take me up to close! The current titanic exhibition is so interesting! Amazing free experience, great volunteers and so much to see!

An amazing place to visit with kids. Lots of sections and floors and every section offers a great insight about history and different eras. We spent two hours there, could have happily spent more. No tickets needed, bery approachable from station, and offers Little activityifor kids as well. It has a a little souvenir shop too.
Dr. Z — Google review
My family and I like this museum a great deal. The only reason I give it such a low starring system is for its customer service. My father paid the museum another visit recently to visit one of its special exhibitions. Now, like all pensioners, he asked if there was a pensioner discount, in the same way NHS staff such as myself must ask if places offer an NHS discount because these discounts are not openly advertised nor revealed unless asked for. There is no harm in asking, otherwise we don't know better. The women at the desk replied back in quite a spiteful manner 'it's already cheap enough unless you want to bankrupt us.' Regardless of the hardships a museum has with funding, customers and visitors are some of your primary fund raisers, and good customer service ensures they return. This was a very upsetting comment, particularly as my father happens to probably be one of the few people in Maidstone who understands the actual value and significance of the museum's artefacts. Especially when it comes to the Japanese collection, of which Maidstone museum holds one of the biggest collections in the country! Suffice it to say, my father used to be a frequent visitor, but has since not returned. Please be kind to your visitors. It makes all the difference.

Nature & Parks
Mote Park is a vast natural space in Maidstone, offering various attractions for visitors. The park features a woodland play area, BMX track, pitch and putt course, skate park, and a serene lake where visitors can feed swans. Families can enjoy picnics and let kids roam free in the new play area while dog walkers explore the beautiful walks around the lake. Additionally, there are opportunities for adventure with high ropes and Segway rides in the Adventure Zone.
This visited this Park with friends and family. Its a huge park with good children play areas and facilities. It's a good choice to have a day trip and you will enjoy a lot here. Adventure for kids, mini golf, Family boats and kayaks, etc.. very well cleaned toilets always next to the Park Cafe. We went on a European summer fest event on a Sunday. Allover a very good experience. Parking is £3 for 6 hours.

Mote Park is honestly one of my favourite places in Maidstone. It’s such a lovely spot to chill, go for walks, or just spend time with friends or family. The park is massive, with loads of open space, trees, and a beautiful lake right in the middle. It’s perfect for picnics on sunny days – you can just relax on the grass and enjoy the view. It’s also really good for kids. There’s a big playground and lots of ducks by the lake, which kids always seem to love. They even have a little machine where you can buy duck food – just tap your card and get a handful to feed them. It’s a small thing but really cute and fun, especially for families. There’s a nice café near the lake if you want a coffee or a treat, and the toilets are close by too. You can also rent pedalos or rowing boats, which is great on warm days. Loads of people go for walks, runs, or bike rides – and it still feels peaceful even though it’s close to the town centre.

Largest park in Maidstone and one of the largest in Kent. Lovely surroundings spread over several acres traversing large green spaces, lakes with boating, water sport facilities, wildlife and even some mini waterfalls. Has a miniature railway, wooded walks, nature trails, adventure playground, skate park and also a cafe. The only negative is the paid parking which can be difficult to get a space during busy periods, especially when there is an event.
E T — Google review
Gorgeous park, huge! Different things to do as well. Lovely place for a picnic. They have a little duck food dispenser where you can get the feed for the geese, ducks and swans. Was lucky enough to see a family with their babies today also 🦢

Really nice and big park, both dog- and child-friendly. Beautiful ponds with plenty of benches, a large playground for kids, and spaces for picnics, relaxing, and enjoying some privacy. There are many spaces in the two car parks. Not far from the car park is a decent café offering beverages and snacks. On the other side of the park, there’s a van selling ice cream and drinks. A great place for a weekend walk and to spend time with family and friends.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mote Park is my happy place! 🌳✨ I come here all the time whenever I need a bit of calm, space to breathe, or inspiration for my art. There’s just something so peaceful about it — the lake, the trees, the open air — it feels like the whole park has its own gentle energy. I’ve had some of my best creative ideas just sitting here sketching or walking around the water. 🎨💭 It’s also amazing for families! There’s so much space for kids to play, a lovely café for a little treat, and so many spots for picnics or peaceful walks. It’s one of those rare places that’s relaxing and inspiring at the same time — perfect whether you want quiet time alone or a fun day out with your family. Every visit reminds me how lucky we are to have this gem right here in Maidstone. 🌿💚 Highly, highly recommend it to anyone who needs a little reset or creative spark!
AYSE A — Google review
A very nice and well kept park! If you are in the area you should just come and walk through.. There are boats for the kids.. or you who am I to say what you can do. It's a classic park experience just multiplied by 10, in size. There were ice creams, lovely, and there were many trees and this nice little river that ran through the beginning of the park. A tiny little waterfall. A photogenic area! Worth a visit and worth your steps. Get your 10k here

Kent Life is a 28-acre countryside attraction that offers a glimpse into Kent's farming history and rural life. Visitors can explore the Vintage Village, experience life during World War II, and engage in various activities such as bottle feeding lambs, playing on the beach, riding donkeys, and enjoying an indoor soft play area. The site also features a paint-a-pot studio and opportunities to get close to farmyard animals.
We visited Kent Life recently with family. It was an incredible day had by all. Lots of parking so that's great. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. It's not expensive to visit and it's a full day to enjoy yourselves. Loads to see including cute farm animals and tractor rides. They have sheep, goats, donkeys, meerkats and owls to name a few. Even snakes and spiders too. The kids cam enjoy pottery painting too. You can see the Owl Display too. That's amazing. There's food to buy onsite and tea and coffees. Nice kids soft play area that's huge. You can get lovely ice creams too. Many places to enjoy a picnic. Benches everywhere. Great to see the heritage of Kent. The old well preserved buildings and areas they grew the Hops. Like stepping back in the past. The area is beautiful and the staff are nice. Good area for kids to play too. The tractor rides are great. Kids love it. The gift shops nice too. Perfect day out. What a fantastic place to go. Will visit again many more times. Also a bonus is it's next to the river and the Malta Inn. So enjoy that great pub after.

Great place to take the kids to meet some animals. The toilette area it is for adults. It is very uncomfortable for the kids to use them as they are designed only for adults. Mainly to do school trips but recommended to go with the family. I will change my review to 5 stars if the toilette issue is resolved before the end of 2025.

My Wife and I had our wedding here on the 1st August this year. The day was perfect. Lindsay was our wedding coordinator and she was amazing. Every question or worry we had was dealt with and we honestly couldn't have asked for more. She was always on hand when we needed her and guided the day perfectly. The venue was ideal and unique, we got married in the pink chapel and had the food and party in the Wagon Store and Village Hall. Food was good and all dietary requirements were catered for and there were lots of them. Overall the whole day was perfect and all the guests commented how great Kent Life was so thank you all. Excellent value for money, can spend hours here with my 3 year old. Animals she can actually interact with, soft play, playground for varied ages, owl show, quite often there are themed events on, tractor rides and just a nice walk. Would recommend. Getting a membership really pays off too if youre going to even come 2 or 3 times in the year

We visited yesterday having booked our tickets for one of their dinosaur days a little while ago.We were greeted by two inflatable dancing dinosaurs with adults inside and started our day with an owl event (he was called Merlin) which was really interesting and informative with the owl flying right over our heads to feed, you could really feel the whoosh of its wings ! We saw all the animals in the farmyard (you can't feed these) and met Holly the guinea pig who gave us gentle nibbly kisses to our hands. We saw the various types of hens, cockerells and turkeys nearby. We strolled up the hill to feed the sheep, goats and alpacas and met an occasionally roaring but friendly Tyrannosaurus on the way much to the delight of our Grandson. We had lunch by the tea room which was very busy. There is pot painting nearby which we didn't do as our Grandson is under 3 so still a little young for that. We had a stroll down to the carousel (£3 a go) followed by the dinosaur themed magic show in the marquee which all the kids clearly enjoyed with some even invited to participate. We went to see the other lovely owls including a snowy owl which is endangered, a skunk and several meerkats who also have some young that are fun to watch playing around. We finished our day with a brief visit to see the critters and a tractor ride after a short spell queueing (no extra charge). We had a fabulous day out at Kent Life, thankyou to all of the staff.

Perfect day out for any age. There were tractor rides, activities and talks free to attend and join as well as good information provided to give knowledge. Food was expensive but was tasty.

Took my granddaughter for the Halloween period, had a brilliant day. Plenty of activities starting almost every half an hour. The owl show was amazing. The foam disco at the end was great she’s 2 and really enjoyed it. I thought the entrance fee was very reasonable too. We enjoyed it that much I’m going again this weekend with my grandsons.

My 2 year old loved it here, took a short time to get used to all the animals and birds but once he got comfortable we couldn't keep him away. We fed the animals, entered all the old houses, played in the outdoor & indoor play area then finally topped off with an outdoor foam party!

Kent Owl Academy, located within Kent Life, offers owl experience days suitable for all ages. Visitors can handle, touch, and feed various birds of prey while learning about their unique personalities, hunting behaviors, and diets from the knowledgeable keepers. The academy features a barn owl that will fly from your hand and also houses a tawny frogmouth and meerkats. This family-run establishment provides an opportunity to get close to these magnificent creatures and gain insights into their natural hunting instincts.
What a wonderful experience. Syl and his team of Nick and Josh provided me with hands on experience holding various owls and imparting lots of interesting information. They were very knowledgeable and made the day absolutely fabulous. I could not have asked for more. Finishing the time with Tawny Owl flights - magnificent. I was bought a voucher as a present and then purchased an observer voucher so could take someone with to photograph my experience

An unforgettable experience! I had an amazing time at Kent Owl Academy. The staff were incredibly accommodating and went out of their way to make sure everyone felt welcome and comfortable. Their knowledge and passion for the owls really shone through—it was fascinating to learn so much about these beautiful birds. You can tell they truly care about the animals and the experience of each visitor. I left feeling inspired and grateful for such a unique opportunity. Highly recommended!

I purchased the photography workshop as a gift for my dad, whose a twitcher, and he loved it. Me and my mum were allowed to be spectators and also really enjoyed the day with him. The birds were amazing and the staff were all very knowledgeable. It was apparent that they really care for the birds and animals they look after. Josh was able to answer all of our questions (and we asked many!). For his young age of 23 he knows a great deal about all of the birds. As my dad struggles now with energy at his age, Edward and Josh were happy to go at his pace, which he really appreciated. Id highly recommend this experience for bird photographers. The only improvement I believe they could make is to have a private area for the photography workshops, but I think space makes this difficult.

What a wonderful my partner and I had with the owl experience today. Steve, Ed and Charlotte were so friendly, caring, helpful and knowledgeable about the birds. We got to hold a few of the the owls and fly the tawny owl. Throughly recommend this fantastic experience with the brilliant team. You won't be disappointed!

Me and my partner had such an amazing time here, handling a number of different owls and being introduced to all of their lovely birds! The staff were so lovely, and ensured we had plenty of pictures together. With the weather being so hot, it was great to know that the staff were super knowledgeable and as such were able to adapt our private experience to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of their animals, whilst also continuing to make our time there well worth while. Highly recommend!

Bought an owl experience for a friend and her hubby, lucky me he doesn't like being near birds. Weather was against us but still had a really nice time. The flying time at the end was shorter than we were told but that was again the weather. Will definitely do as again. Loved it. Ed and Nat were really knowledgeable about there birds. Wouldn'tlet me bring one home though. Rotten

Hazlitt Theatre is a performing arts theater located in Maidstone, Kent. The theater hosts a variety of performances such as comedy, dance, drama, and family shows. If you're looking for a show to enjoy while in the center of Maidstone, Hazlitt Theatre is definitely worth checking out.
First time at this venue. Very small and felt somewhat private. Seats were comfortable and cool environment. Highly recommended and will return for other shows!
Jimmy W — Google review
Amazing staff, so helpful and friendly. But the theatre itself is a sweat box and whilst I understand old buildings can't have aircon with modern plug in units available it wouldn't be hard to at least try and manage in certain areas. Top tip if visiting.. get cup of ice from the bar if you have a long performance to get through. Do not ask for wine they serve it in a tin, charge an extortaniate amount and it is vile.
Ani E — Google review
Saw Celia Imrie talking about her new book. Theatre staff were lovely and deserve 10 out of 10 for crowd management. Unfortunately, the poor theatre could do with an overhaul, especially the seats which are old, tired and hard. Better leg room than some theatres though. Keep getting great names Hazlitt, and we'll keep coming.

We had lunch here today to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was great, very tasty and the service was excellent, Katy was very attentive and accommodating. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. We choose prawns in red Thai curry sauce and scallops without the hammock croquette as I don't eat meat. We then had confit shoulder of lamb and stonebass, and we managed to find room for a vanilla parfait and a chocolate delice. Only one coffee as they unfortunately don't do decaffeinated. The Kent white wine was delicious and the cider had a good balance to it. We look forward to eating here again.

I just got my order and the box was partly open and my chips were missing I had about 5 chips in rhe box. £15 for cod and 5 chips, not impressed at all! The delivery man tried to give me the open box and run and when I pulled him up he admitted the chips where spilt in his delivery box strapped to his bike!

Wonderful seafood Resteraunt - elegant a la carte service - well cooked and presented food - only marked the atmosphere down as there was one particularly loud guest who seemed to have little consideration for others in the room which slightly spoiled a birthday meal, as the dining room was all open plan there was no hiding from anyone else’s noise - otherwise perfect evening

The Frederic French bistro & cocktail bar features outdoor seating, as well as an adjacent patisserie and wine bar. The menu boasts a wide selection of wines, cheeses, and desserts, making it an ideal spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
I had a lovely experience at Feŕdéric Bistro. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was very good. If you’re planning to visit during the weekend, I highly recommend calling ahead to check for availability, as it’s usually full — especially during breakfast hours between 9 AM and 12 PM. One minor issue: the chairs were not very comfortable, but overall, it didn’t take away from the great experience.

Discovered Frederic’s whilst visiting the area. My number one spot for morning coffee. Great, friendly service and gorgeous pastry’s but try not to indulge too much. Lovely building and atmosphere. I highly recommend.

We stopped by Frederic Bistro in Maidstone for lunch and had a really lovely meal. The beef bourguignon was rich, tender and full of flavour, and the chicken was great too. We shared a raspberry tart for dessert, which just melted in the mouth. The service was friendly and relaxed, and although the atmosphere was fairly casual, the open kitchen at the back gave it a nice, unique touch. We hadn’t booked but managed to get a table just by turning up — the place was quite busy, which says a lot! For two mains, one dessert and a drink each, the bill came to about £60 before tip, and we added 10%. Great food, good value, and a really pleasant lunch overall. We’ll definitely go back.

We called in advance as were attending the Hazzlitt theatre and were offered a discounted 2 course meal. Myself and my partner wanted to make sure it was wheelchair accessible, which it very much was and they made sure to book a table that would be appropriate. The food came out very quickly and was delicious. The servers were all very kind, though it seemed they did not communicate as we were served by multiple people doing the same things at times. Wonderful atmosphere and would be keen to return.

I only left a star off for service because the two head waiters were so busy chatting with returning customers I presume which is always a good sign. The food is scrumptious for a discerning tongue focusing on quality over quantity, ensuring that you make at least the three courses all of which delicious. Perfect place for a celebration or like us just out for a casual jaunt . Highly recommend 👍

This family-friendly eatery specializes in an array of dishes including pizza, pasta, and grilled options, making it a perfect spot for casual dining with loved ones. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, ideal for enjoying a quick lunch or leisurely dinner.
I booked this place for my partner’s birthday a couple of months ago. From the food to the atmosphere, everything was spot on. The starters as well as the mains were exquisite, and the service was impeccable. We did get slightly interrupted by an unwanted guest (a bee), but the staff handled it well! The food we ordered was: calamari and bruschetta (for the starter) and steak+fries as well as seafood risotto. I could not recommend this place more!

I dropped in recently and had a pretty good dining experience. The atmosphere was spot on and the service team was incredibly friendly, making sure we felt taken care of throughout our meal. I really enjoyed the rib-eye steak, which was as great as I remember, though the dessert didn’t quite hit the mark for me. One small letdown was the drink selection; it would be awesome to see some non-alcoholic beer options. Overall, a solid visit that I'll definitely repeat!

I popped in for a meal and was really impressed! The seafood risotto was packed with flavour, and the service was top-notch—everyone was super friendly and made sure I was enjoying my meal. The only letdown was the drink selection; I was hoping for some alcohol-free wine instead of a mocktail. Overall, the atmosphere and cleanliness were spot on, making it a lovely spot to unwind. Visited The Romney, but unfortunately couldn't have lunch as you have to make reservations. You can only enter from the main entrance not from Mote Park. The place looks nice and posh, we. may go back again one day. Recommend!

We had afternoon tea and it completely exceeded our expectations. The restaurant has gorgeous high ceilings and beautiful decor. The selection of sandwiches and cakes were delicious and the staff were warm and friendly, checking regularly if we needed refills. Molly our waitress was really knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the building and its history. We will certainly return. Thank you

This restaurant is located in Audley Mote House, which is part of a retirement community which in turn is located in Mote Park. The location is idilic, with views of the park. The food and service were very good. The preparation of the food took slightly longer than expected, but it was worth the wait. The cost was reasonable, 2 courses for £22 and 3 courses for £24. There does not appear to be a car park for restaurant guests, so I suggest parking in the car park near the entrance to the park and walking a few hundred meters. It costs £2 for 6 hours.

Greek restaurant
If you're on the hunt for authentic Greek flavors, look no further than Greek Taverna Artemis. This charming eatery offers a delightful selection of traditional dishes that will transport your taste buds straight to Greece. The cozy atmosphere makes it perfect for families, with a small but appealing kids' menu that even the little ones will enjoy. During my visit, I was captivated by the tantalizing lunch options; however, I opted for a full main course due to timing constraints.
We came here for lunch on a rainy Tuesday. Really warm welcome! There is a very good lunch menu, but we ordered off the main menu. Kids meals were great, a good balance of Greek food with what kids like (we ordered one kids chicken soulvaki and one kids chicken fillet, both coming with chips and cucumber. I had the cold mezze which was so delicious, and we had an adult chicken soulvaki. The staff were kind and efficient, and dedicated to their jobs. I would definately make a return visit.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I just want to say a massive thank you to the entire team here. They hosted 20 of us for a corporate event and were absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. The service was exceptional — the team really looked after us and made sure every detail was taken care of. The food was amazing; everyone was raving about the dishes and the atmosphere throughout the event. I know many of our guests will be returning in the future! Thank you again for your incredible hospitality and for making our event such a success. We truly appreciate everything you did for us and hope to be back soon!

An incredible place! From the moment you walk in, you can feel the family atmosphere – the restaurant chef is incredibly kind, warm, and hospitable. The service is top-notch – always smiling and very helpful. The food is absolutely exceptional – fresh, perfectly seasoned, every bite a true feast. Greek flavors at their finest. Huge praise and respect for the chef – it’s clear that cooking is his passion, and each dish is prepared with heart and attention to detail. He’s a true master of flavor, making every meal an unforgettable experience. I haven’t had such a delicious meal in ages – everything is prepared with heart and passion. This is a place you’ll want to return to. I wholeheartedly recommend! 🌿🇬🇷✨

Ordered a Chicken skewer and chicken gyros. Skewer meal was tasty, gyros meat was a little dry, but heavy portion. The lady serving was very abrupt in manner, maybe had a bad day.

Disappointing! Our first time at this restaurant. We had a selection of starters including the Calamari rings. A very small portion of halved rings for £8.20. The most disappointing though was the main course, two mixed grills at £22.95 each. The meat was two very small lamb chops, a small meat skewer and half a sausage each. It was made to look big by piling lots of chips underneath the meat, surrounded by dips and sauces. When we complained about the portions of meat, we were given another half sausage each! We hastily got the £93.38 bill, noticing that we had been given a £3.38 discount. We didn’t care about the discount but it felt like a bit of a mickey-take given how much we had paid for two people. We wouldn’t have minded to pay if the main course had been worth it.
