Monza

Monza is a city just northeast of Milan, in northern Italy. Monza Cathedral, with a 16th-century bell tower, houses the frescoed Teodolinda Chapel. The neoclassical Royal Villa of Monza, a grand estate with English landscape gardens, sits on the edge of sprawling Monza Park. Crossed by the River Lambro, this walled park also encompasses a former hunting reserve and the 1922 Autodromo Nazionale, a Formula 1 racetrack.

Sights & Landmarks
Villa Reale di Monza is a grand neo-classical estate featuring royal apartments, a chapel, and expansive park and gardens. Visitors can take guided tours to explore the historic complex. The estate is known for its regal apartments that offer a glimpse into court life. The surrounding Park of Villa Reale di Monza is considered one of Europe's most significant historical parks, boasting picturesque landscapes with villas, farms, mills, bridges, and ancient trees.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Villa Reale, Monza – A Timeless Lesson in Wealth & Legacy Walking through Villa Reale is like stepping into a blueprint for success—where strategy, luxury, and longevity have shaped history. 🏰✨ This palace isn’t just a feast for the eyes, it’s a lesson in leadership and well-being: ✔️ Vision & Structure – Every great empire, like every great business, thrives on strong foundations. ✔️ True Luxury – Not excess, but access to beauty, serenity, and a quality life. ✔️ Longevity & Prevention – Royalty understood that health is the key to abundance—a lesson just as relevant today. A must-visit for those who think beyond the present—Villa Reale is a masterclass in success, past and future.

Mediocre experience inside. The library without books, the rooms with almost not furniture, in lack of the latest the upper flow is filled with modern art that fills completely out of place with few exceptions. Some of the photos here on Google were a bit outdated or misleading for our visit. At the same time, with noticing that you only pay 10 EUR for the entry ticket, so you don’t loose much. During our visit, the English tour wasn’t an available option, while the Italian one included in the ticket price.
Kiryl S — Google review
The entrance ticket costs €10 and includes a guided tour. What’s special is that instead of just one guide, there are 4 guides located in different rooms of the Villa, each explaining the history, architecture, and details of the palace. When I visited, the explanations were only in Italian (not sure if tours are also available in other languages, maybe depending on the day or group). The tour of the Villa Reale itself takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. If you also want to explore the exhibition about the Second World War and the second floor with additional rooms showcasing modern art, then plan for around 2 hours in total. Booking your timeslot online is recommended on weekends. To explore the park around the building a bicycle is advised.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Royal Experience at Villa Reale, Monza! Visiting Villa Reale in Monza was more than just a trip—it was a journey through history, wealth, and the art of longevity. Walking through its grand halls and stunning gardens, I was reminded that true success isn’t just about wealth but about vision, structure, and well-being—principles that have shaped great leaders for centuries. 🏰 A Masterpiece of Strategic Thinking – Every detail of this palace speaks of careful planning and an empire built on foresight and purpose—just like any successful business or legacy. 💎 Luxury Beyond Material Wealth – Villa Reale embodies the idea that true abundance isn’t about excess, but about access—to beauty, serenity, and a lifestyle that prioritizes quality over quantity. 🌿 A Lesson in Longevity & Prevention – The historical elegance of this place reminds us that those who thrived understood the power of sustainability, clean living, and holistic well-being. The same principles apply today—investing in health, clear thinking, and conscious choices is the true key to abundance. If you are an entrepreneur, visionary, or someone who values success, history, and holistic well-being, this is a must-visit destination. Villa Reale is not just a palace; it’s a living lesson in wealth, leadership, and lasting impact. ⭐ Highly recommended for those who seek inspiration and timeless wisdom. #VillaReale #5StarExperience #HistoryMeetsLuxury #WealthAndWellBeing #EntrepreneurMindset #LongevitySecrets #SuccessAndHealth

Villa Reale in Monza is a lovely spot for relaxing, picnicking, or jogging surrounded by nature. It's spacious, peaceful, and great for families—kids especially love watching the many squirrels running around 😀
Yarmali O — Google review
Gorgeous villa in Monza! The interior apartments and rooms that you can tour on the first and second floors are insanely beautiful - even better than Versailles. Our tour guide Salvatore was the absolute best and we learned a lot about the history behind the decoration of the rooms, the family, and the furniture! Unfortunately we did not have enough time planned but will absolutely be back next time we’re in Monza. :)

A very nice place to walk around and admire, it has a huge garden. A cafe on ground floor with seating inside and outside. I wouldn't go out my way to visit unless you are already in Monza.
Luke — Google review
Such a nice place to relax. Has a huge garden I mean it’s really huge. I felt like I was in old fantasy movie. I mean inside the garden whole world going to forget and you are in another world. Front of the villa it’s looks like Landon palace. I was able to get beautiful pictures and get a relax time. I went there in a weekday, there wasn’t crowded at all so I enjoyed it really well. I didn’t walk lot I just stayed near the villa. And I don’t have any idea about inside the villa because I didn’t go there but according to pictures that I saw, I think as the garden inside is beautiful. You should visit that place if you’re in Milano o Monza.

Nature & Parks
Parco di Monza is a popular attraction in the city, drawing many visitors each year. It offers a wide range of activities such as horse and auto racetracks, golf, tennis, and an outdoor Olympic swimming pool. The park is also surrounded by various accommodations and nearby attractions like Autodromo Nazionale Monza and Villa Reale. With its vast expanse, there are always new corners to explore within the park, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts.
I went for a run in the morning here. It was amazing to be able to run on the famous old banked curve of the race track. The park in general is well maintained and great for doing some sports.

I love meandering through this park and watching the sunset by the fountain in front of Palazzo Reale. Lingering is a priority here! We stumbled on a Beer/Food Truck festival on the last visit ... which was fun! they had trucks reprenting almost every type of cuisine in the world.

Incredibly huge park. The racing circuit part is very big alone, but the rest is big as well. Suitable for sports activities of many kinds. They even have running tracks for several lengths. Prep for many kms walk or better, ride. There was a huge storm in July 23 that massacred the racing track surrounding. Over 10 000 trees fell down.

Big beautiful park of the royal palace. 🌳🪵🍃 We spent not one but two days walking around and feeding the squirrels. 🥜🐿️ There are so many. 😍 There is a lake, with plenty of fish 🐟 and ducks 🦆 The tower looks cool. You really have plenty of options how to enjoy this place. ☺️

Specialty Museums
The Museo e Tesoro del Duomo di Monza is a captivating destination that beautifully encapsulates the rich history and artistry of the region. Nestled within the stunning Gothic Cathedral, this museum showcases an impressive collection of artifacts, including the renowned Iron Crown, a significant relic from early medieval times. Visitors can marvel at exquisite pieces from the Longobard Treasure and explore artworks spanning from the 1300s to contemporary creations in its dedicated Carlo Gaiani section.
Impressive treasury. The core of exhibition is a set of late antiquity and early middle ages artifacts. I adore this style: heavily golden and a lot of large gems, no way to find two similar ones. So many centuries had passed before this "imperfection" started to be so desirable in the modern art styles. I was also impressed with a diptych portraying Stilicho and his wife - such a touch to the history of the last days of Western Roman Empire it was. Iron Crown is located in the church in Theodelinda Chapel, ask on the museum desk how to get there if you want to see this relic.
Sergei B — Google review
climbing 500 stairs up and then descending 500 stairs down it is not as bad as it sounds since the steps are small I guess they are intended for smaller stature people on the middle ages. Superb view as expected but because of immense height , most of sights are no longer seen
Wing A — Google review
Clean place, fast kitchen, nice staff, but a bit crowded and quality always stable and good. I was there in spring 2024
Hoa T — Google review
In my opinion this is one of the most incredible medieval museums in Europetotally underrated, but not didactic enough. There is not much left anywhere of the period between the fall of the Roman Empire and the early Renaissance. This museum has several unique pieces of jewelry, the crown of with the iron nails, and every day articles. It's a bit of the missing link of what happened after the call of the Roman Empire. The museum is not interactive so it is more adequate for people with some background knowledge of the period and who already know they live history. We spent a whole afternoon here.
Georginamgo — Google review
An interesting museum related to the Cathedral, also including many relevant historical items -and of course the most important one is the Iron Crown. Everything is well exposed, easy to understand, the guide was very good, and we had a great time visiting it.
J R — Google review
Phone ahead to book a tour of the Tesoro, with the excellent, English-speaking staff, and you could have a very special experience. Most visiting Monza will know of the Iron Crown, the ancient relic of Christendom, wielded by Charlemagne and Napoleon, etc etc. So, I was expecting there to be a large crowd of tourists. I was very wrong! Instead, I was treated to an extended, 1-on-1 tour of the cathedral treasury and viewing of the Crown with an excellent guide, who was more than happy to explain all the history and legends surrounding this relic at length. Still cannot believe I was the only one there. A very, very special place.

In the heart of Monza's historic city center stands the iconic Palazzo dell'Arengario, a centuries-old brick building that once served as the town hall. This impressive structure features a bell tower and graceful arches on its ground floor, showcasing a blend of architectural styles inspired by Milan's Palazzo della Ragione. Overlooking Piazza Roma, this strategic location has made it a symbol of the city.
It’s location is nice, close to the train station and in the vicinity of the duomo and other attractions in the center.

The Arengario was built in the 13th century and is named after its original function as town hall. The building has a portico surmounted by an upper floor that was used for councils. The architecture was inspired by the Palazzo della Ragione of Milan.

The Parrocchia di S. Giovanni Battista Duomo di Monza is a centuries-old church with a stunning marble facade and intricate frescoes, as well as a treasury of religious relics. It stands on the site where Queen Theodelinda built a basilica in 595 AD, according to medieval legend inspired by a dream she had.
Duomo di Monza – A Hidden Gem of History & Spirituality Stepping into Duomo di Monza is like entering a sacred masterpiece where art, history, and faith intertwine. 🏛️✨ The stunning Gothic architecture, intricate frescoes, and the legendary Iron Crown of Lombardy make this cathedral a must-visit. 🔹 Breathtaking Interiors – A true visual feast with mesmerizing details. 🔹 Rich History – A place where emperors and saints have left their mark. 🔹 A Spiritual Haven – Perfect for reflection, inspiration, and connection. Whether you love history, architecture, or deep cultural experiences, this is a must-see treasure in Monza!
Dr. M — Google review
The Duomo di Monza is an absolute must-visit for anyone exploring the area. While Milan’s cathedral gets most of the attention, this stunning church has nothing to envy—it’s just as breathtaking in its own right and offers a more intimate, less crowded experience. One of the highlights of the Duomo di Monza is its incredible wall paintings. The entire building is covered in beautifully detailed frescoes, creating a truly immersive experience as you step inside. The artistry and craftsmanship are remarkable, making it easy to lose yourself in the intricate scenes and rich colors that bring the space to life. If you're in Milan and have time for a short trip, I highly recommend visiting Monza to see this architectural masterpiece. It’s a hidden treasure that deserves just as much recognition as its more famous counterpart!

Beautiful inside as it is outside. Definitely a unique and a outstanding design of the cathedral that is actually serves as one primarily. The Sunday service is completely full and open to anyone. A cathedral with a spectacular facade. But don't miss the interior: the richness and beauty of the works of art is truly remarkable. In my opinion I would make the works of art stand out in more light
Tiziana L — Google review
Definitely a beautiful view whether in the morning or evening. Full of charm and character inside as well
A S — Google review
One of the most harmonic architecture I have ever seen. Facade impresses you with clearness and finalizeness in each line. Two-color solution is extremely stylish and reminds of Tuscany architecture traditions though with a pinch of Lombardian medieval decorative taste. Interior is from much newer ages but it doesn't interfere with the overall perception: it is peaceful and revered shrine, we were lucky to see the preparations for a wedding ceremony, it made this place even more charming. There is an important chapel to the left of the high altar - Theodelinda Chapel dedicated to the early medieval queen of Lombards who, is believed, commissioned this basilica and gave a beginning to the prosperity of Monza. The chapel is decorated with frescoes of Zavattari and is the place where the Iron Crown of Italian kings is stored. To visit the chapel you should ask for it on the museum desk (entrance is from the church just to the left of the chapel or from the street). Ah, yes, a peacock-lectern is splendid though in my case the choir of wedding singers stood around so I can't eximine its nice decorations but I enjoyed the singing much more to be honest.

Casa Caprese is a delightful pizzeria where visitors can enjoy late-night dining with quick service and huge, satisfying pizzas at reasonable prices. The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere, although it can get noisy at times despite efforts to improve acoustics. Guests praise the generous and delicious dishes, including fresh homemade pasta and enormous pizzas. Additionally, the option of gluten-free pizza is appreciated by many.
Delicious food. Prices are so so. Nice, friendly staff.

Food was really nice and service was also really friendly. We wanted to try a bunch of foods they served, but be warned, the portions are big! The only thing that I really didn't like was when I was in the toilet they gave my girlfriend the bill without her asking because they wanted they needed the table. Even though there were many free tables (especially inside). I felt a bit rushed because when I came back I found my girlfriend already waiting for me and our table cleared. Doesn't feel like proper hospitality to rush guests out who just finished their meal.

Cocktail bar
Zero3nove Cocktail Bar in Monza is a trendy establishment offering an array of cocktails and aperitifs, as well as a snack buffet, within an atmospheric setting. With its expansive summer terrace, it provides ample space for patrons to enjoy their drinks and small plates. While the Aperitivo may be slightly pricier, the generous portion of food justifies the cost. The venue's ambience makes it suitable for both date nights and dinners with friends.
This place totally won me over! I've been in Italy for the past two weeks, and this was the BEST restaurant—food *and* drinks—compared to all the others I tried in Milan, Como, Bellagio, Monza, and Genoa. If you want something amazing but not just the usual pizza and pasta, this is it! They had tons of options, and everything was so good! Samuele was our waiter, and he was super nice and helpful! I strongly recommend you try the Degustazione Artigianale and the Fritto Mix!

What an amazing place. This is an "incontournable" un Monza. I am surprise it does not have a Michelin star or 2. What an amazing service as well. Our server Denis (he was Italian) was entertaining, had a wicked sense of humour and knew exactly how to connect with the group. We were 6 people and the efficiency of the service was just amazing. We did the traditional tasting menu Wich was at the time 62 euros per person but worth like 100. The quality of the food, the presentation and the taste was out of this world I will difinitly go back everytime I am in Monza. Thanks for a memorable meal.

La Cucina di Via Zucchi offers a minimalist setting with a well-stocked wine cellar and creative twists on classic dishes. While some found the menu to be traditional, others were impressed by the fabulously presented and delicious food. The service received mixed reviews, but overall, it was considered a pleasant experience with good value for money. Guests appreciated the spacious restaurant and attentive staff, recommending dishes like risotto with saffron and lasagna for their excellent flavors at an affordable price.
We had a Sunday lunch here. All food was delicious. We had the steak tartare and pumpkin flan as starters and the octopus pasta and risotto monzanese as main dishes. The red Chianti house wine was a bit sour for my taste. Service very swift and friendly. The place was packed at 13:00 on a Sunday, and we were the only non-locals, so testament of its local popularity.

Beautiful restaurant in the heart of Centro Storico. We had the Risotto Monseze with the Luganega and it was amazing! We also had the big cotoletta (I think it’s called elephant’s ear?) and it was good but a bit heavy so my suggestion would be to share it because I have a good appetite and I could never eat all of it alone. Tried the Torta Paesana for dessert which we both loved! Service was good too, very professional. They even gave us a glass of prosecco as we were celebrating our marriage anniversary, so this was a nice thoughtful touch. All in all, we had a lovely evening and will probably go back at some point 🙂 Definitely recommend!

The food was good, but it was a pretty traditional menu. Judging from the ambiance of the restaurant, I was expecting something more innovative. Service was fast but not top-notch (e.g. spilling the wine while serving, three waiters asking the same question). Overall it was a pleasant experience. Good value for money (€116 Euros for a three course meal for two people, including a bottle of wine).
