Fascinating glimpse into life in the 1700’s in Corsica and its history involving the British and Italian peoples who colonised the Island from time to time 😉 The audio guide is essential to get the most from your visit as the info panels are only in French. The queue was exceptionally well handled and ensured that the rooms in this house were never overcrowded as they are typical of houses of this period.
If you’re fascinated by history, this is a must-see. It’s amazing to visit the actual house where Napoleon grew up, so much to take in and imagine from that era! But they could have made effort to make it a better experience.
This significant house, the childhood home of Napoleon Bonaparte, offers a glimpse into the lifestyle, furniture, and daily life of the family. However, the experience could be enhanced and made more educational. Unfortunately, there were no English text provided, and the audio guides were unavailable. As a result, we felt that we didn’t get as much as we had hoped. We would appreciate it if they could incorporate movies or videos that showcase the daily life of the family, their habits, and a brief history of the family tree. This would provide enthusiasts with much more to explore and learn. The ticket was 7 Euros per adult.
Napoleon's birthplace. Interesting museum, although not much is the same as when he lived there. His history and that of his family is well outlined. You are given an audio tour device at the door and the narration is pretty good in English. In early October there was a small line up to get in, but it went quickly. Note that the museum is closed for about 45 minutes around lunchtime. Avoid bringing large backpacks if you can. Security check at the door.
Nice little piece of great European history. Museum dedicated solely to Napoleon's early life, without emphasis on his military career. Well organised and not very crowded. Ten minutes waiting for entrance is to be expected and no liquids allowed inside.
If you visit Ajaccio, you should definitely stop by this place — the house where Napoleon spent part of his life, now turned into a museum. The entrance fee is €7 for visitors over the age of 25.
So this was the childhood home of Napolis whom left at 9 years old to go to France military academy. He led a troubled youth on the island. So his dad shipped him off to military school with his brother. Inter sting note. This is not where he was as exiled to. Just where he started life. Family was poor. Rented rooms in the home. It was only many years later the family came into favor and money with the military escapades of Napoleon. Who interestingly sought to place his sisters and brothers in positions of power all throughout Europe. A very modest old building. Nothing really great to see but history as it occurred.
Excellent little museum in a delightful town Would really like to holiday here the short cruiseship visit was nice but we left to soon

Really nice experience! Well organized, clean rooms with nice views, on time.
Can I please get help with my reservation? I have sent numero emails and the "conseillers" are all busy. From NZ, how am I supposed to reach you without staying up all night trying? Please see my emails sent on 25 March 2025 and contact me please!
Terrible experience — would not recommend! The service on this ferry was absolutely awful. Staff members were extremely rude, especially towards women. The whole place was disgustingly dirty — we even found blood on the bedding in our cabin. One of the most disturbing parts of the journey was how they treated our dog. We brought a 1.5 kg dog with epilepsy and explained that he might not survive the stress of being separated. Despite our pleas and offers to show medical documentation, the staff didn’t care at all and immediately took him from us. When we went to see where the dogs were kept, it was horrifying — a constant loud, high-pitched noise filled the room, and the dogs were clearly in distress. Most had no food or water; we had to put some down ourselves. They were crying and shaking — it was heartbreaking. If you offer a pet transport service, at least make sure it’s humane. Their excuse was that other passengers might have allergies — but please, take a look at the condition of the rooms (see attached photos). I think you could develop an allergy to many other things on board — the dust, the filth, the mold. I was traveling with my brother, who actually has a dust allergy, and he could barely breathe in that cabin. The food was horrible, and everything was filthy and smelled bad. The dishes were greasy and stained. One bossy waitress held a glass by the rim with her dirty fingers — the part people are supposed to drink from. Totally unhygienic. When I ordered coffee, the staff accidentally coughed into it while preparing it. Overall, this was one of the worst travel experiences I’ve ever had. Absolutely unacceptable. Avoid this ferry if you care about cleanliness, decent service, or the wellbeing of your pets.
affordable, safe, the Catholic clergyman was kind to me and we went for a drive. its like the Tasmania of France. lovely.
Extremely bad! There was blood on my pillow no working AC, and the cabin was full of dust. On top of that, super rude staff who were rolling their eyes when we complained. The review is about Corsica - Marseille.
The worst travel experience in my life. I will never book on there ferries. I travelled in family with my car on the ferry Daniel Casanova. They sent a reminder before a week with our family ticket, they shortened the boarding time, without mentioning it in the mail neither highlighted in the tickets. Then they changed the gate without communicating the info. So we spent hours driving between all port gates. We were a minutes to miss the ferry and they were not reachable by phone. Later on the ferry, restaurants were closed, only one was open -also they did not communicate the info, at least we could bring with us foods- so there was a queue of 1 hour to get a lunch.. all these mess within a travel of 24 hours. Avoid this company, if you have the choice.
Nice rooms, nice bar. Much better (and better for the environment) than taking an airplane! Only I think there should be more of a discount for passengers without a car.
A great improvement over the 'other' ferry company

Museum
Art museum
Palace museum established by Napoleon's uncle, with European art collection, including old masters.
Slide 1 of 8
The chapel was included, but overrated; the actual museum was fantastic though! Recommendation for improvement is to either add a translation to the text (or a QR code). What I loved about the museum was the depth of artwork it presented; it didn't have an overwhelming religious focus. Instead it sectioned each floor with a different focus: Corsica art in the basement, Napoleon Bonaparte and Bonaparte family on the ground floor, religious focus at the first floor that was mostly Christian themed, but did have some pagan themes, and everyday life artwork on the second floor.
Nice artwork. Some of the artwork had too much direct sunlight to enjoy. Some of the darker pieces could have been best shown in a darker room as well. With relation to the artwork, I would have half the price of the entry ticket.
Inconsistent family concept We were right in the middle of doing one of the family panflets when we first earned many mean looks and surveillance by the first floor staff. We didn't do anything wrong though, didn't run around, didn't touch anything, didn't eat, only talked about the art and the panflet. That probably annoyed them. Then all of a sudden we were told off VERY RUDELY for leaving our trolley in another room for a second while completing one of tasks (you had to search for a painting). When we took it with us we were SHOUTED AT that we have to navigate in the center of the corridor instead of to the right (we didn't want to block oncoming traffic). Ridiculous. Rules were clearly improvised to get rid of us. Overall, we felt excluded as a family in a sad case of adultism. How are you supposed to ignite interest in arts in children when they are made to feel unwelcome in museums that propagate to be family-friendly?
If you are an art lover you are going to be engaged but not bowled over. Not the highlight one hopes for but there are some works from famous names and a lot of division two. Centre of old Ajaccio so you are going to visit but don't pin your holiday on it. Like so often en France, the beat is in Paris. The Bonaparte fetish is also in full swing which, despite the fact the locals don't like the guy, they milk him for all his ermine clad imperial worth.
Fine arts of Corsica, history of napoleon and chapel of the Bonaparte family crypt! Must see!
An excellent collection of Napoleonic portraiture and one of the best collections of Italian 18th century art outside the Louvre, set in a beautiful renovated 3 level gallery in the middle of the Ajaccio shopping district.
Impressive art collection well displayed.
Museum was incredible, specially for how low the cost is.

Ajaccio Corsica is a beautiful little town with plenty to see and do. From monuments of Nepoleon, stunning views, fantastic buildings and many cafés. It's definitely well worth a visit.
A little run down but still impressive.
Worth to visit the great statue of Napoleon.
Interesting place to see, though there isn't really much here being the statue of Napoleon
In Ajaccio had trip round on the train. Lovely beach, had a dip in the sea
Great views from the top and lovely surroundings
Great space to walk around, with a large stage where they perform performances, presiding over the square is a statue of Napoleon. The tourist train makes a stop to take photos.

FIVE STARS – The interior of the Cathedral Santa Maria Assunta in Corsica (Ajaccio), France, is unexpectedly bold, beautiful and grand, especially when compared to the relative understated exterior of the structure. Napoleon Bonaparte's memorial is nearby...
Beautiful cathedral once visited by Pope Francis.
Very interesting little cathedral. Unassuming on the outside. Inside there is some beautifully intricate stucco decor, but a fair bit of it is chalked on - I wonder why? Budget cuts? Plenty of candles to light inside if you have recently lost a loved one/ are worried about your bowel movements following that dodgy sandwich you are next door. There is also a brilliant organ behind you as you walk in, so don't forget to look up and all around you.
A nice port town. Easy to get around. Indoor meat market at the port entrance- with fresh fruit and veg outside. The Cathedral is well worth a visit. Good variety of shops cafes etc. A small town but interesting features and history.
In love with this place. I feel so calm and peaceful when I visit this place. Love sitting in silence here.

Love the huge range of products here. Prices are cheap compared to a Paris supermarket. There is barely a thing which you can't find here.
Good selection, but a bit expensive
Having a nice coffee here
Reliable local supermarket with good selection. Carrefour Market in Marines de Porticcio offers a solid range of everyday groceries and household items. Prices are reasonable for the area, and the store is well-organized and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful during checkout. Great for quick errands or restocking supplies while staying in Porticcio!
It's a good store where you can do regular grocery shopping any time you need. And the prices aren't too high. There is a toilet.
Good shop, especially they have sections for local products.
Good variety but it's little expensive compared to market they are in.
My favorite market in this area. Clean, i can find everithing what i need, and the worker is helpfull.

Very friendly and helpful. Spoke great English! Provided us with maps and recommendations for beaches, lakes, walks and supermarkets.
Don't ask them how you can pay for the public bus. They don't know and they're openly disgusted that you asked. They're also so eager to be rid of maps of the area that when you ask for one they'll just toss it at you rather than handing it to you. Good to know the French are still living up to their reputation.
Didn't inform us about the English speaking tours. We found out about these tours online. Directed us to the port and fobbed us off. Not helpful or insightful. Information centre only for the French.
Nice tourism office with lots of information.
Asking for a bureau de change they had only one suggestion, thehotel Kalliste. When i went there i was told that they only change American dollars. They had no other suggestions, and made no further attempt to help. They did not know if the central post office was open or shut. Less use than an ashtray on a motorbike.
We ask "where is the closest public toilet"? Answer "there are no public toilets in Ajaccio. Have a nice day". How is that acceptable for a tourist destination?
Very unfriendly, Four employees and not a Single one is Able to speak a word in english Edit: we were also Cruise passengers on that day. We spoke to a female employee who said in french that she can Not speak english. We asked for other employees but again she replied that Nobody speak english . We looked to the other employees and They like rejected us in body language. We visited the Office at roundabout 13:00h. At that time no other cruise passenger were in the office and all other guests/tourists spoke french. We cant imagine that suddenly all employees learned multiple languages or there were a shift change or something like that. Finally we cant Imagine that a lot of tourists received help on that day. Very dissapointing for a touristic Office in a town like ajaccio.
The tourist office in Ajaccio is a good starting point if you want to visit the city they offer guided tours of the city every day and they can give advice on the best places to visit and book some concerts and musical events for you.

great beach, amazing water.. food was nice. umbrellas and chairs are 23€ one, 38€ two. but the pedal boats with slides are so much fun and free to use if you pay for chair
Me and my friends had a great experience here: the food was really good, i especially recommend the fish soup, and the portions were really big. Honestly one plate of pasta is enough for two people here! The staff was friendly and the restaurant is in a really nice location overlooking the sea.I would totally recommend.
I think they may have forgotten us and then cooked our food really fast. Because we didn't get our meal for almost and hour and then my husband's fish was uncooked. I asked for ketchup for my fries.. that took 15m to arrive. I had mussels, they never emptied my shells so they were falling on the floor.. All in all, not a great dining experience.
Great food! We had grilled fish and octopus salad. They were fantastic with big portions. Would go again. It’s a bit pricey though.
Incredible food and such friendly service, the server was very patient with us as we didn’t understand the menu in French. Beautiful view and lovely place to hire pedalos and sun beds next to restaurant. 100% recommend.
Very nice place. Coctails a bit over priced but very good. Staff was very nice. Unfortunetly they didnt have food for us, so we had to leave. Kitchen closed till 19:30h.
Fabulous view and location. Service good, food good (tomato mozzarella excellent, Entrecôte de porc good, Cafe gourmand disappointing), wine ok and prices reasonable for the view and location.

Only a courtyard that you could visit. Most of the place are close for a renovation. Yet still you could enjoyed a beer if the sun is at right position. I passed the best afternoon by the sunlight with a wonderful local beer.
Lovely beach. A few steps to get down to beach. Can't fault this place,
Unfortunately a lot of trash and the place is not taken care of. Youu have to pay one euro to use the restroom, which would be okay if it would be clean, but it is not. Not even a public restroom is so dirty as this was. Not recommended to visit.
Free entry. Historic site. Toilets available. Some restaurants and shops.
Nice place to walk around. A couple of craft shops and a bar with a DJ blasting vibes to happy locals(?).
This is a nice place for a walk and a casual uncrowded experience of the citadel of Corsica.
Lovely place to visit. An icon of the city
Sad to see that this place is falling apart. Apart from a bistro there is nothing to see. Anything of historical value to not maintained.

Amazing hiking trail. It's yellow with some extra shortcuts which are a bit more demanding. Beautiful view down on Ajaccio Bay. Quite exotic with cactus on both sides of the trail. Good view points. A must try if you are there.
A nice not too difficult 3h hike, but the spots from which the view is nice are rare. Most of the trail is under the sun, so avoid hot days/hours and bring hats/scarves and lots of water.
Nice hiking area. You can get good views on the Ajaccio bay. However, the trail is not as easy as indicated by guides or the tourist information point; do not try with a stroller or infants.
Super nice 3h hike with beautiful views over the whole bay. There is a very useful app called Capa Scopre which shows you the different paths, their difficulty and also gives you interesting facts about the flora, fauna and the history of the area. It uses your Bluetooth and sends you notifications and topic suggestions. I definitely recommend downloading it before the hike. (There is a free WiFi zone in the beginning of the trail at Bois des Anglais). Pro tip : plan your hike wisely. Don't recommend doing it at the warmest moments of the day because the trail is quite open and the heat here could be exhausting. Don't repeat my mistake. Tip 2 : go straight to the sea afterwards
Amazing hike if you have the time. We enjoyed the hike. Girlfriend made the trip while 3 months pregnant. Shes tough
Worth the hike. Incredible views onto Ajaccio bay
