Dordrecht was the first city with a very rich history. It's only 15 minutes away from Rotterdam and an hour from Amsterdam and it's really worth a day trip to visit amongst others this magnificent church right in the city centre. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. I promised them I'd climb to the top on my next visit. Highly recommended!
Beautiful, imposing Gothic church with leaning tower! 4€ entry! On one side you can see a cannonball from Napeoleon invasion!
Interesting church with beautiful stained glass windows. For 4 euros per adult (children free), you can climb the tower and look at Dordrecht from above. The climb is not easy and the stairs are narrow, but the views from there are wonderful.
This large church, in Gothic style, is officially the Church of Our Lady. It has a tower with a clock mechanism and there are currently 67 bells. They can be rung both by hand and electronically, and one of them is the heaviest in the Netherlands, weighing 10 tons. The entrance price is 4,00€ and it’s the largest church in the city.
We arrived almost at closing time. But the curator happy showed us around when she learned we came all the way from Singapore! The Synod of Dort (Dordrecht) had its opening session here! The diorama with explanation was a treat, though a litte biased in favour of the Remonstrants.
A nice surprise discovery to uncover this little jewel, the ceiling structure, the woodbench engraving, the modern vitrail... All sum up to an unexpected and excellent experience!
The entrance price, including audio-guide and raising to the tower is 4 💶. From the top of the tower you can enjoy an amazing view, find Rotterdam as well. The service women are very friendly. Amazing! 🤩 😍
The medieval Grote Kerk of Dordrecht, or Dordrecht Minster, is a building which is rich in history. Its origins lie in the 11th century. It is not only the external architecture which is impressive, but also its monuments, chapels and choir stalls which make this church the most important building in Dordrecht.🕊️ Source www.grotekerk-dordrecht.nl

It’s absolutely worth visiting. It’s not a huge museum but it’s amazing. You can see paintings from 16th to 21st century.
Interesting museum with a good collection of paintings. Nice and friendly staff. For children there is a separate interactive exhibition "Ik zie, Ik zie". It was a lot of fun. We especially liked the room where there was a wall with a fur. When you stroke it, it purrs like a cat.)))
This museum is one of the most underrated ones in the Netherlands. I would compare it to the Frans Hals museum in Haarlem, but way less crowded and with an art collection that’s just as captivating. Dordrecht isn’t known for tourism so you wouldn’t think that they have such a high concentration of amazing museums in such a small area, but what else can you expect from the oldest and most historic city in Holland?
I really liked the collection on display with some works being really different and breaking up the styles a bit. but a lot of paintings where to high to see well but from far away and even then some still had too much glare. Also was very strange to say ai generated videos on screens in a museum, put another painting there instead of slop.
De Witt exhibition is astonishing. A remarkable moment in Dutch history.
I recommend the permanent collection. There is a room dedicated to Ary Schepper. There are paintings by Rembrandt and portraits of Max Liebermann and Israels. The collection spans several centuries. The space is contemporary and there is a cafe, a garden and a large auditorium. They also have a youth program called TakePart. It is a paid internship for youth between 16 and 22. The public education program allows people to learn about the special exhibits and also interact with artists. The elevator makes the spaces accessible for those using wheelchairs and walkers, as well as baby carriages. My visits were on a Friday and Saturday. I also took a summer course on those days.
I really how different themes and the effect of different centuries are combined and shown in such an authentic way! You start with classical pieces and then it evolves to modern pieces, you finish it with hands on experience, I drew myself using a photo they provided, it was really fun!
A magnificent museum that has curated 6 centuries of Dutch masterpieces. Dordrecht is not exactly a tourist city but it's only 15 minutes by train from Rotterdam, or about an hour from Amsterdam. It's a gorgeous city full of history. It's really worth a visit and this museum certainly is!

A house museum where you can see how the rich Dutch lived in the past. The interiors of the rooms are gorgeous. There is a game for children to find answers and there is also a cafe.
1 hour visit with a lovely cup of tea in a garden, well kept atmosphere, however quite dark even for a sunny day, small shop by the entrance with creative ideas for souvenirs. Veel plezier.
This is a lovely home. We are all fortunate to have this gentleman share his life with the public.
If you like to live through history, this is a wonderful place to visit! There's even an elevator which creates a sense of inclusion. Great experience!
Unfortunately, we were a bit late for the museum, but it is still a perfect spot for a peaceful coffee break.
Huis van Gijn brings you 100 years back in time and gives you a close look to the lavish life of van Gijs. The entrance is free for kids, and I have no idea how much the entrance is for adults, though I used my Rotterdampas for free entry 😁 I wouldn't recommend this place for kids under the age of five because there is nothing interactive for the little once. Main visitors were adults and elderly so running or overactive kids might annoy the visitors. There are interesting unique rooms inside, like the room with gold and leather wallpaper (the one and only in the Netherlands!) The only interactive thing is the opportunity to get dressed as the 1900s 😁 my 10 years old daughter loved it. In the basement, you can find a collection of toys and dolls and an adorable carousel. It doesn't belong to the house of Gijn, though.
Nicely maintained museum. Lots to see and so much of it accessible from close up. After a visit through the home a nice garden to enjoy a lunch, coffee, tea and sweets. There is an elevator to access the museums many levels. Rotterdampas is accepted for free entry (as are many other local museums).
Lovely 1700-1800's period home with complete rooms and all the owners artifacts plus some more which create an interesting museum for adults and children. Includes a coffee shop in the back. Located in a setting over looking a boat-filled canal. Very charming and well done. Nice booklet guide worth keeping as a momento.

This is one of the few museums that everything is also in English. Great museum for kids, with great activities for them to get invested in museums. For an adult amazing audio guide and interactive exposition of which you will learn and question yourself many topics. What a great museum!
That was a museum I'll truly remember. As a not-so-art-interested person I was happy to find a museum that tells more about the history of the Netherlands and Dordrecht as well as which aspects the current society is interested in. I quickly forgot my initial annoyance regarding short English info about items on displays locked behind a QR code, as I was well absorbed by the overall story they tried to tell with the exhibitions. Personally I just would have wished that the "story of the house", told at certain stations, would have had adjustable volume or also the possibility to listen to via the audioguide as the volume was a bit too loud for my perception (especially with other guests around). But all in all I felt entertained, learned a lot and also looked at things from another perspective - for me the best possible outcome of a visit to a museum.
Superb museum about the history of the netherlands, dordrecht itself and also featuring a lot of personal stories. Free audio guides in dutch and English. Nice building to walk around. One can see that they try to go with the time and try new methods of exhibition without loosing what a museum stands for.
Quite a nice, recently refreshed, museum about freedom and the history of the Netherlands. Especially the film on the Unie of Dordrecht is well done with good actors. Would recommend.
It was very interesting and fun to see everything! you're able to read everything in english as well! I really loved everything about it.
It was cool. I’d definitely wait for the little film they play. It really brings everything into perspective.
If you want to know a little bit more about the history of the Netherlands or the history of Dordrecht in particular this museum is the place to be. It is housed in the historic district in Dordrecht in an early 16th century building that was once used as a place to stay by the various Princes of Orange Nassau during the 80 Years War in the 16th and 17th century. The building alone is therefore an interesting place to visit as history oozes from the walls. Its entree fee is very reasonable. The place has stairs but there is also an elevator in the center. There is also a little shop with a variety of books and toys. The basement deep in the bowels of the building features a chronological collection of various finds at and around the city of Dordrecht. The upper and middle floors house a good collection of historical artifacts, among them objects from the 80 Years' War. There is also an interesting, clever, albeit somewhat unusual reenactment of the First Meeting of the Free States of Holland back in 1572 playing every 15 minutes or so. it is certainly worth checking out. The interactive functions take a little effort to get into, as you have to 'register' before you enter and you need to find your registered name all throughout the museum to get extra background information. I have to be honest that after a few tries and being unable to find my name, I gave up. While there, do check out the recently unveiled statue of Willem of Orange in the street leading from the States Square (Statenplein) to the Hof to commemorate the First Meeting in Dordrecht.
Was looking to learn about the history of the Netherlands and ended up listening to propaganda

The statue was erected in 1918 in memory of grand pensionary Johan de Witt and his brother Cornelis de Witt. The statue is a national monument.
Johan and Cornelis de Witt were 2 powerful brothers from the Dutch Golden age of the 17th century. Cornelis was the mayor of Dordrecht. Dordrecht was one of the most important cities that contained the Dutch fleet and Johan was the statesman of the Republic of Holland. Johan was a free market, libertarian who believed in small government and more power to local authorities and helping the merchant guilds. Unfortunately, Johan mismanaged a war and was disliked by the royal named Willem van Oranje. This led to the accusation of an attempted murder of the Willem that led to Johan's imprisonment in The Hague in the 'Gevangenpoort' and eventual death at buitenhof. Most famously know for its people cannibalising Johan's liver out of spite. This led to the Mother begging for Cornelis de Witt his life but he was assassinated by a lynch mob. This gave rise to the first king of Orange and turned the Dutch Republic into a Monarchy.
Dordrecht is filled with history, these two brothers definitely contribute to that
(Translated by Google) Superb statue of an important character in the region, big drawback is the bike parking right in front which makes a huge mess. Afterwards it remains a nice nice place to visit and where to walk as a couple, with family etc.
(Translated by Google) Johan (1625-1672), Grand Pensionary of Holland, and his brother Cornelis (1623-1672), Ruward of Putten and Mayor of Dordrecht, received this statue in Dordrecht in 1918. This was 246 years after the De Witt brothers were murdered by the mob in The Hague. The statue was designed by Dupuis. The inscription is from Palamedes, a satirical poem by Van Den Vondel: "Remains are memories, pious is brave." The naturalistic bronze statue depicts the brothers in 17th-century clothing. Johan wears a calotte (a small silk headdress shaped like a round cap) and sits on a chair. His brother Cornelis leans against the chair and holds a walking stick in his left hand. Below the statue is the De Witt family coat of arms, with the names of both brothers. There is a legend in Dordrecht that the brothers sometimes swap places. The statue is a national monument. The brothers Johan and Cornelis De Witt were lynched in The Hague on August 20th, 1672, in the year of disaster, by members of the local militia, out of fear of disaster and war. Their bodies were severely mutilated, and parts of them were sold. None of the perpetrators were punished. This political double murder remains one of the most shameful events in Dutch history.

Beautiful city hall to walk around and explore, easy to find parking and restaurants nearby. Dog friendly too!
Did you know that Harry Houdini did his magic tricks in this 14th century building? This building wasn't even a municipality building when it was first built. Flemish merchants sold fabricks here untill mid 15th centry. Today you can have a wonderful wedding planned or other events.
Impressive townhall the former gothic building has a new building on top of it after the fire
nice building and square in middle of the city
In city center, beautiful historic building
It's a great place if you're looking for culture of Dordrecht. It's a beautiful building from both the outside and the inside. There is also a monument which displays the names of the jews who died in world war II. My only complain is the stairs towards the entrance which has no railing or anything else to grab on to. Some people just need that.
Beautiful city hall with a cozy basement that is formed into a restaurant and serving good food.

The view of Dordrecht is very relax...cold I'd November for a Floridian like me but an old historic city to visit a few minutes by train from Rotherhdam
An historic old gate in the Dutch city of Dordrecht. It's an stroll from the train station via some spectacular Street lined with amazing buildings. It leads you to the "Drierivierenpunt" (Three Rivers Point), where the Oude Maas, Merwede, and Noord rivers meet. This is one of the busiest river junctions in Europe. The gate still looks amazingly intact. Worth visiting.
People have said 'oh it's just a gate'. Yes it's just a gate but a beautiful historic one, and certainly one of the most important landmarks in Dordrecht. Stunning view of the river Maas, close proximity to the Waterbus (a lovely experience in its own) and lovely café restaurants in the vicinity
Amazing old monument with lots of details! You can sit jn the cafe nearby and enjoy the view 🙂
A historical gate which located by the Oude Maas river side, there are a couple of cafe/restaurants which offer a pretty view of the river. The waterbus station for boats head to Rotterdam and other nearby towns is just 3 minutes walking distance from the gate.
It is a beautiful building. Dordrecht is the oldest city in The Netherlands and it was a nice waterbus trip. We enjoyed walking in the city
For me it special gate and beautiful.

You can walk into reenactments of classroom settings throughout the decades in the museum. The desks, the resources hanging on the wall, the floor plan. The museum has periodic exhibits showcasing materials, key personalities and methods in education in the history of the public schools. This is child friendly with interactive audio, video and physical portions. The museum makes child activity pages to encourage reflection on the main themes. A bookstore/souvenir space allows you to buy additional info on topics of interest or keep a small reminder of what you saw. The beautiful garden with picnic tables let’s you extend you time with a healthy lunch or a dessert and warm drink from the spacious café outfitted with a reading table. Only a 10 minute walk from Dordrecht Central station.
Small interesting museum in a beautiful building. This museum is about the history of education in the Netherlands. The right side of the museum is dedicated to elementary education and the left side to secondary education. In the basement there is a temporary exposition about reading. It is very interesting to see the teaching methods change over time, as well as seeing old teaching material and posters.
A fascinating museum depicting the history of education in the Netherlands. Each period of the history is carefully executed and beautifully displayed. A must if you happen to be in Dordrecht and/or if you are interested in the subject. We can really learn a lot!
Really love it ❤️ it’s a super fun museum with a lot to do.
It's an amusing and interesting museum for a whole family. More explanations in English would be great though. Especially a treasure hunt for children.
Interesting to get a quick sniff, but mostly interesting for educators. Paid parking in front of door. Building is nice, staff friendly.
Back to school! The Education Museum / Onderwijs Museum offers a display of exucation history in Holland. Next to the exhibitions you'll regularly find events and special activities for kids. A nice place to visit on a rainy day when in Dordrecht. We score it 3 stars because it could use an upgrade in interactive elements, or maybe something to make it a little bit more active for kids when there are not special events.

Everything is beautifully restored and maintained with very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended
The ladies that work there are super helpful and friendly. After enjoying what the museum had to off grab a cup of coffee or tea and maybe you can get some advice as to what to see next.
Beautiful building with nice interior. Two interesting documentaries. Will take you up to one hour for a visit. Helpful staff. Entrance fee of Euro 12.50 a bit stiff.
It is a beautiful home & view to visit , but it is not finished as yet as in really being a museum. Staff very friendly.

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting this museum! The couple who run the museum were so welcoming and friendly and the wife offered to give us a tour in English, which we weren't expecting, and really appreciated. Their passion and love of medical science and making it come alive to people, young and old, is truly inspiring and we came away with an appreciation for advances made and a better understanding of our own bodies and how things work, would highly recommend this museum to children and their parents, to help make medical science more real and less scary or foreign to them!

One of the best gin/jenever (Dutch gin) distilleries in the world. However instead of mass production using computerised machinery they stick to traditional methods involving various manual steps. The results are extraordinary gins that cannot be equalled. We attended a gin making workshop. So much fun. The lady owner who conducted the workshop is so charming and friendly and of course, highly knowledgeable. Come to Dordrecht and visit their shop in the centre of the city. Highly recommended! PS: the last 3 photos are taken from Rutte's website.
Was a nice experience. They explain really well and also help with some tasting and the Gins are really good
This place is a must see for anybody who enjoys a good glass of spirits. The shop has a lovely 19th century interior and the distillery is open for vip tours.
Great your experience.
Thé place to be in Dordrecht for great liquors, gin and jenever. Award winning and famous all around the world.
No matter what they touch, it turns out amazing. You must try the vodka or the celery gin or the coffee licor. It actually doesn't matter much what you try. :-)

Nice little museum about the Second World War and Dordrecht. . You can visit quickly but the collection is large enough to spend some time. Some more explanation sings would be nice but stil, a nice place to visit.
Small, but wonderful museum. A nice quiet atmosphere; very suitable for the subject covered. The exhibits were nicely displayed and very educational. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful.
Simple local exhibition of WWII. Great to see the old uniforms and photos of an occupied Dordrecht
Not huge but lots of artefacts, you can touch them too, not all behind glass. Run by volunteers, all very happy to help and provide information.
Lovely little museum about Dordrecht during the second world war. Very friendly staff - we spent a while chatting to a gentleman who's father was in the resistance
Very good, small museum of the invasion of Netherlands at Dordrecht in 1940, plus the occupation till 1945. Would be five stars if all their exhibits had English details as well as Dutch.
There are surely larger museums dedicated to World War 2 history; but this one can go artifacts-for-artifacts with the best of them. In a townhouse-sized facility you receive a detailed look at four thematics - Invasion. Occupation. Resistance. Liberation. This a superb insight into the courage and sacrifices endured by the Dutch people.

Beautiful old windmill.
We stumbled across this restored and working windmill in Dordrecht. The ladies in the coffee shop at the bottom were charming and we enjoyed the climb through the several stories of the mill where people were working producing various types of flour. The views from the top over the landscape were amazing. We had planned to visit the Kinderdijk mills but they were closed throughput January- so lucky to find this one churning away by itself in Dordrecht. Thank you ladies!
(Translated by Google) Been here once. The mill is undergoing renovation and they have a wide range of baking items inside. From cake flour, pancake flour to bread mixes. Furthermore, the staff is very helpful and friendly and a detailed explanation is given about the different types of flour or mix. Love this place. It's medium size and friendly atmosphere are very welcoming. More importantly they always have a great line-up of all kinds of performances. Theater, comedy, music, there is always something nice. And the bar is a very beautiful and pleasant area after a performances. With great staff / volunteers.
This was my first visit to the theater, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The interior architecture, ambiance, and organization are all well designed to create a truly enjoyable environment.
Gorgeous venue with stunning architecture! Beautiful foyer, comfortable seats, many charming details. Nice acoustics, good size stage but very tiny orchestra pit (I wouldn’t even call it such!) The audience was welcoming and very much enjoyed our performance of Nutcracker. My only bitter impression came from one of the venue’s employees who quite arrogantly kicked out of the hall my 8-year old son and some of my colleagues from the orchestra, who got to rest that night due to the small size of the pit and asked if they could possibly watch the performance (there were some free seats in the hall, so they easily could have been accommodated).
We came an embarrassing 30 mins late. A crew member came to pick us and helped us to get in the show. He was so friendly. It’s a small theatre and nicely renovated and well maintained. Very pretty space. Super cute show where we had wine and snacks. Such an entertaining afternoon and so affordable! A gem for the city. I would go back.
Very nice entertainment venue. Good acoustics, comfortable seats with classic art deco influences.
Nice theatre with a real nice looking main 'stage'. Video (screen) could be a bit better with the Joris Luyendijk show - Het zijn net mensen 2.0. The small food/drink arrangement for the pause is a always a good thing to choose aswell.
Awesome little place. But don't choose first row (row a), because your neck will hurt from looking up. Due to the size, first row balcony is best. Good restaurant/bar before and after events.
Nice atmosphere but not all that organized (1 consumption included in ticket price, but cannot be used before the show, some counter was apparently a performers-only counter). The place is very limited (at best) served by public transport! Very bad! But apart from that still a nice afternoon after all.

Saw a lovely choir here doing the Christmas Carol. A lovely little church.
In the middle of the city centre lies this small church. Has some nice history facts to, like Vincent van Gogh visited there once
Happened to walk by during Christmas. A choir was performing to typical Xmas songs. Quite nice. For the rest, the chapel did not seem to have any special detail, at least at a first look.

(Original) Leuk klein eenvoudig kapelletje.

Very hospitable manager and employees who also organize great catering.

Very interisting historical place!
Beautiful old & love the story behind it which is written on the outer wall

People live there, so think about privacy. (Translated by Google) It's fantastic that it still exists. Well-maintained. Unfortunately, the regents' room was closed. I couldn't find any information about when it's open. There's a nice note in Dordrecht that says it's open when it's open, otherwise it's closed. (Original) Helemaal top dat het nog bestaat. Goed onderhouden.
