An unexpected surprise. We stopped in this small museum along the main port road not sure what to expect. But the wonderful ladies at the museum showed “hands on” demonstrations of amazing innovations developed by the Ancient Greeks. Other museums have fragments of statues, this museum shows innovation that holds up to today. The water siphon, pressurized air pump, hydraulic valves, pistons & cylinders, automatic pulleys & belt systems, and more. Fascinating!
It is one of the best museums I've ever been to! The amount and perplexity of the devices depected in the artifacts is mind-blowing! The best part thought, is the guides! They give you a thorough insight on how the devices used to work and they are performing some experiments live! There is no admission fee, there is just a charity box for whoever wants to leave a tip. There is also a small gift shop inside the museum which has some very interesting replicas of the artifacts. The prices are normal for a gift shop, ranging from 0,50 cents to 40€. On the second floor there are some of the games/artifacts that you can sit down and play with which is really amazing! For a total tour and playing with those type of "board games" you will need 1.30-2 hours, if you're into details! Totally, recommend and the location is ideal! It's 2 mins walking from the port of Katakolo.
Kotsanas museum of ancient Greek technology is near Katakolon port, about 5 minutes walk. It has 5 Euros payment for entrance / donation fee. I find the museum small because you can see all of their showcased technological ancient Greek works in just under 10 minutes but if the museum staff will demonstrate how these ancient Greek technologies work then it will definitely take longer than 10 minutes. Athough the museum is not that large, there is still fairly a lot of ancient Greek technological works you can see there and of course, there is also souvenirs for sale in the museum and they even accept credit card payments. I got me a fridge magnet and a Pythagorean cup. The cup is for sale in Amazon for 49 USD but I got it only for 12 Euros in the museum and there is a small size of this cup for sale at only 10 Euros. I was not planning to post any videos of the museum but I saw in Google maps that someone already did post videos and pictures of the museum so might as well post my own videos and pictures to promote curiosity to other people.
This amazing museum with super friendly staff is quite enjoyable. Would enjoy bringing our grandkids here
How were they able to do that without the technology and machinery we have today?Did you ever ask yourself that question when gazing at ancient Greek buildings or considering Greek thinking? This fascinating museum helps answer those questions. The staff is welcoming and courteous. It is a short walk from the cruise ship. This is our third maybe last trip to Katakolon, but our first visit to Kostas Kotsanas. museum. I’m glad we didn’t miss it!
Must see if you like technology. Be amazed at what the ancient Greeks invented in their time and we still use. The robots were invented here 😃
Excellent, fantastic, fabulous are just a few of the adjectives that come to my mind after the visit. Museum of Ancient Greek Technology provides you with a detailed explanations of Ancient Greek technological achievements. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and easy to understand. Good news there are 3 museums around Greece. So if you can't come to Katakolon or Ancient Olympia you can visit this museum in Athens.
Cute little museum with just a handful of rooms, but each one is packed full of interactive and interesting exhibits. Entry by donation, and we went right at the end of the day. The guide was a little exhausted to see us and was clearly done with tourists but showed us everything anyways, her attitude was part of the charm! One of the top places to visit in this little town, for sure.

A beautiful gem of a castle, it's clear a lot of time and effort has gone Into restoring parts of it and it shows. There are employees spread throughout who are eager to help or give a bit of explanation. Views are amazing, and the whole is well supported by big plaques full of information. If you're in the neighborhood, absolutely put this in your agenda. Parking is right in front of the entrance.
I did not pay to go into the castle but the views from the exterior are fantastic. There is a kiosk that contains information about the castle and it history. If you are in the area, it is worth a visit.
One of the most well preserved castles in Greece.. this castle was built back in 1220 by the crusaders.. and in 2025 still stand there.. up in the hills.. 5 euros entrance ticket cost.. 8:30 it opens and the views from above are stunning.. if you are around the area definitely worth a visit. You will feel that you will travel back in time.. it was my first time there and I was impressed.. we were lucky and when we went it was empty the castle.. later on a bus full of tourists arrived..
A well preserved castle with amazing view. There is a little museum inside. Definitely worth visiting!
I was very surprised how cool os this place! Theo view from the roof od amazing!
A real gem and unique castle in Greece. Unlike many castles in Greece, this Frankish castle imports a Frankish castle design with royal accommodation to Greece. The design significantly influences the area's churches, as they start to incorporate these Frankish design elements.
beautiful views of Kyllini, very friendly stuff.
Incredible medieval castle built in the 13th century. Wow! A must see if you are in the area.

Nice and tasty for all! You can choose your dish and be sure if the quality and the freshness!
Avoid the restaurants in front of the walking aisle and ask a taxi to take you to the other taverns along the beach if you can't walk (600m), ride will cost 3,40euros(min charge). These restaurants take advantage of the "one stop and never come back" situation with travellers from cruise ships and serve very low quality food and highly overpriced

Gateway to Olympia, but don't miss strolling through the town. Enjoy a coffee, some great food and visit the museum of Greek inventions
There are shops and restaurants within walking distance of the port itself. There is also a duty free shop within the port. Got me a fridge magnet and some 4 seasons honey. I have noticed that as you go further away from the port, the price of items usually drops or becomes cheaper. There is also a museum that showcases acient Greek technology.
Small port, small nearby beach and small comercial streets It's quite picturesque and charming but don't stay all day long, go to Olympia and spend there as long as you can.
Loved this little fisher town. If you don't want to go on an expensive tour you need to walk to town and port. But go outskirts of the town for delicious reasonable lunches. You can hit the beach or take a hike up the mountains behind the town.
The Katakolo Port is a smaller and not too busy port near Olympia. A small town on the land side is full of very interesting small shops selling clothing, jewelry and other local products. Along the waterfront are a line of Greek restaurants and towards the end is a small park. There is also a large parking area for buses and taxis.
The port of Katakolo has many shops and restaurants nearby. I think I can spend a whole day here if I don't want to go anywhere else. The shops and restaurants are right in front of the cruise ship next to the coast. I purchased a few things here and enjoyed a couple of drinks with an excellent view.
Beautiful port and lots of small shops. We have a long cycling from Aldemar olympian resort. You will see lots of orange trees in front of the shops just before you enter the main shopping street. Nice pictures spot. That's a nice church as well. Restaurant at the back street is amazing.
Nice quiet port with many souvenir shops. One can get hop-on hop-off bus from here as well as horse ride and even tours to Olympia. Prices are €10 and €15 respectively.
