The view is really nice at the end of the trek. I recommend you to come for the sunrise, the colors of the sunrise reflect on the Fitz Roy which makes the moment magical The Fitz Roy mountain range is the one featured on the Patagonia brand logo!
The trek from El Chalten to Fitz Roy was not easy at first. However, the clear waters of Lake Capri, the flawless blue sky, and the majestic peaks that we encountered after struggling to climb gave us an indescribable sense of emotion.
Long hike up to 24-25km return, with awesome view. Definitely a challenging hike up at the last stretch, with strong cold wind with snows at times.
This mountain in Patagonia and near to Chaltén village is a majestic peak surrounded by natural beauty areas.
The magic must seat mountain outside of El Chaten! The first stop on a multi day hiking & backpacking expedition with Photopills, we hiked to viewpoints just below the peak and then around to the backside and Cerro Torre. Amazing area
What a beautiful hike. We did this hike in about 6 hours. I know it says 8-12 on different websites, but it wasn’t a bad hike at all. The last part before you get up to the lake is a lot of elevation in less than a mile. Lots of people on the hike and it’s very well marked.
Fitz Roy -- A tale of granite mountain in Patagonia shaped by nature and time . I would recommend starting early in the morning to spend more time and enjoy the view .. Start before 7 am (personal suggestion). Entry fees is 45000 pesos ,if you start after 8-9 am . The first 2 kilometers of the trek and the last 1.5 kilometers is hard . Bring enough food (since the trek takes around 7-10 hrs ), i wont suggest carrying more water , after 7-8 km you have the glacier flow water to drink . If you want hiking poles you can rent them in the shops . Dont forget to cover both the lakes -- Laguna Madre (mother) and Laguna Hija (daughter)
Wow. It’s drop your jaw gorgeous. Highly recommend you start early before the 7am busses arrive. It’s worth it not only for the way up, but more importantly on the way back down the narrow path passing all those people.

(Translated by Google) We went today 08/07/2022, the first part up to 3km has some complicated slopes due to the amount of slippery ice there is, the worst part was where there is a chain nailed to a stone, the ground was with super slippery blocks of ice and Next to it there was a very large slope, but luckily we were able to pass. From 4km onwards everything is quite easy, it's just a walk and some ups and downs but easy. The path was well marked by footprints of people who had climbed before. Yes or if you have to go with crampons at this time, otherwise there is no way to do it, the trekking pole is also useful. There are bathrooms at several stops. The lagoon was completely frozen but it was beautiful.

Gorgeous spot on the walking trail right next to the beautiful lake! Snowy mountains and green forest!
The nature of the place is fantastic! The wind is incredibly strong! The trails are well marked and well maintained. The views are magnificent! Lots of people walking on the trails. It is suitable for people who do not do sports. Toilet does not work and they do not warn you at the trailhead. Lots of wildlife, birds, eagles.
This is giving you the best stop on the way to Fitzroy: you can actually drink this water, you can admire the mountain reflecting themselves in the lake if the wind isn't strong, you can relax on the little beach, and you can use the services if needed. There is a camp right there as well.
I passed by here. The camp ground has less people and 2/3 toilet. View is good, but seems quite windy.
Small caping area with toilet and very nice views of Fitz Roy. If you want to spent some time in nature you can go there with tent a spent a night there. Place is covered from direct wind and under trees but be aware of falling branches.
One of the best places i have visited in my life. ❤️
Very nice place to see the sunrise, on the "laguna de los tres" trek. Easy to get there. Wake up early to see the Fitz Roy shinning.
Lovely lake that comes right up to the side of the trail. Not sure that there are explicit rules against swimming, but it is very cold. Clear water.

Beautiful waterfall, where you can hang arround and chill by the water. There's also a path that leads to the top, and can get a different view and calmness. I was lucky enough to encounter 3 woodpeckers, very close to the fall. Had a great time
Not far from city for walking and don’t need to pay entrance fee. But you need to walk on the main road that hv the ton of dusk when car passing. The waterfall is beautiful in falls season but it’s just small waterfall
The trail is easy to walk for anyone, including children. Theres not much elevation and still if you want to make it easier you can always walk through the route instead of the walking trail. Great for a nice and short walk if you have some spare time in El Chalten.
This is one of the free walks/hikes in El Chaltén and an absolute must-do. The trail is very flat, making it an easy and enjoyable walk, and it only takes about an hour to reach the destination. The scenery along the way is quite picturesque, adding to the charm. There’s a car park available at the site, and toilets are provided, but be prepared—bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer, as the facilities were in poor condition when we visited. One of the best parts is that there’s no park fee, so it’s a great option for anyone exploring El Chaltén on a budget. Highly recommended!
very pretty waterfall and the hike isn’t too far off of the main road. you can park in the main carpark for a short walk, or you can do it as part of a 1.5km hike :)
The waterfall is not very big and amazing, but if you have about 2 hours and don't know how to spend it - have a walk to it. Compared to other points of interest, the road is flat and takes 30-40 min to get there from the end of the city or just 5 min from the parking near the waterfall. The water is clear and you can drink it, as well as there're a lot of calafate berries nearby.
Beautiful waterfall! Pretty full of people midday but worth it for the view! To avoid paying to get into the park, you walk up the road instead which I imagine isn’t as pretty of a walk as the trail
A beautiful walk from El Chalten to this waterfall, one hour at slow step but it's worth the effort no doubt.

Here we go, the first day of our 3-day Patagonian trekking adventure, in El Chalten to see the glorious Fitz Roy snowy peak. The hike up was kinda steep but the trekking pole helped. Just make sure you adjust your pole correctly to your height. And an important tip: plant your pole close or beside you— not outward not diagonally. The tour ended in the shallow basin of a picturesque waterfall where you can wade barefoot in the slightly freezing water. If I had known ahead of time I would’ve brought my aqua shoes and a bimpo towel but that didn’t stop me from taking a refreshing feet plunge.
Super beautiful landscape a must in el Chalten we did sounds with instruments and 3 condors were above our heads, it’s a short walk and in 25 minutes you are there, magnificent view
El Chalten is an area of breathtaking scenary, the mountains rise up vertically making for amazing photos. There are numerous day hikes that you can do from any one of the many trails in and around the town to experience this wilderness. The town itself is merely to support tourists and climbers. During winter it was really quite with most places closed. The experience is not about the town but rather the countryside around it, just amazingly beautiful.
This trekking trail has a viewpoint with view to the famous Fritz Roy Mountain one of the most difficult climb mountain
Quite easy but windy hike, this review goes mostly to the National Park organizers that charge 45 thousand pesos for small trails and they dont invest money!!! look at the toilets in the picture please 🤢🤢🤢
Very nice viewpoint; one of the not quite many easily accessible ones from which Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre can be seen together. Somewhat steeper but very passable trail; nice place for sunrises and sunsets (quieter at these times too).
Great spot to watch the sunset - very easy hike that can be done in 20 minutes to the top, all uphill but not strenuous. Great views over the town and to the mountains in the west as well as rainbow mountain to the east. Lovely end to a light day of hiking before full day treks. Well signposted and great views had of condors.
Really cool walk, very easy to do. We arrived in El Chalten around mid-afternoon and wanted to tick off somewhere to see. The map said it would take around an hour but it was much quicker than that, around 40mins at a good pace. Nice views of the town! The wind can be quite strong at times so be careful.

Absolutely worth it! We drove about an hour from El Chaltén to get there. Since it’s private land, you have to pay an entrance fee, but they provide bathrooms at the start of the trail. The hike is moderate overall, though there are some sections where you’ll need to use ropes to climb up (the ropes are in great condition and very helpful). The first part of the trail is flat, taking you through a dense mossy forest (check out the ‘faces’ in the photos), and then it gradually ascends until you reach the viewpoint. You can also go down to the lake if you’d like. The water color is absolutely stunning—no photo editing needed!
Relatively easy hike outside of the Los Glaciares national park (no park entry fee required). Entry point parking best accessible by a 4WD as the road from El Chalten is in poor condition. You need to buy a pass to access the trail (but a bargain compared to Los Glaciares fee). The trail is clearly market and has some good viewpoints of Fitzroy.
Nice and easy hike. It is on private property so you need to pay a fee to enter. Bathrooms available at the beginning. Nice view of the Huemul glacier and the color of the lagoon is really nice. You can either drive or take a shuttle from El Chalten to the trail head
Trail starts at the kiosk selling junk food and soda as well as 5,000AP tickets for the trail. A little further on are the bathrooms and then a very pleasant forest walk following the stream, with a mild incline gets progressively steeper until the last section, which is rope assisted over tree roots and rocks. It's not particularly hard, just quite steep. However as you crest the hill after the roped section and see the water cascading down the hill, you start to feel it was all worth it and when you see the gorgeous Alpine lake appear a little further on, you KNOW it was worth it. The scenery is fantastic. Back at the kiosk you are a couple of hundred yards from the ferry to O'Higgins in Chile. It cannot accommodate vehicles unfortunately.
This is a MUST from us. Relatively easy hike (compared to Mt Fitz Roy) and without the crowds. My partner almost liked this better than Fitz Roy, because the lake was not frozen (11/2023) and there was no crowds. We almost had the whole place to ourselves, and we saw some woodpeckers on the return back. Drive from El Chalten is 1.5h one-way. Gravelly road-best to have a 4x4 but don't think it's needed (double-check me on this). Hike is ~1.5h up/down. Wear good hiking shoes. Poles arent really needed, but may help for those with knee problems. We spent 1-2h at the top just to relax. There's an entry to pay into this to do the hike; I forget how much it is, but maybe a few bucks per person. Try to climb up to the top to take some shots of the lake below. You can see Fitz Roy from afar. Worth the day's travel, then go to the lake after.
Pictures didn't do this place justice. Really amazing and I would go again. Warning: 20 miles from the city on a really terrible road. If you think the road will get better, I assure you it won't. You will make it in the small rental cars (we did) but you will question if you should.
Truly amazing easy hike (30 min to reach the top) to discover a super blue lake surrounded by mountains 🏔️ covered by snow. Entrance fee of 3000 ARS Pesos per person.
Easy hike to an incredible glacial lake. The fee to enter is well worth it. The road from El Chalten is not easy to navigate though.

I recently booked transportation from El Calafate to El Chaltén through Chaltén Travel and had an excellent experience. After my booking, there was a change in the service, and they contacted me well in advance to inform me. They provided clear communication and offered alternative options to accommodate my plans. When none of the alternatives worked for me, they promptly issued a full refund without any hassle. Their professionalism and customer-focused approach really stood out. I appreciate how reliable and efficient they were, and I’m very likely to use their services again in the future. Highly recommended!
We ordered for a bus ride from El Chalen to Bariloche (a 24 hours drive). We paid a big amount since it's basically the only way to arrive to Bariloche. We expected big chairs with a lot of space since we have been told that the chairs can open like a bed. Needless to say we were seated in regular chairs with no space. In addition we paid for assigned seats but when we entered the bus we have been told buy the passengers that the driver told everybody that they can seat wherever they want. Horrible experience and definitely not worth the price
New travel tax introduced 18th February 2035 on top of the already extortionate bys price. 2000 pesos per ticket. HAVE to pay this before purchasing a bus ticket.. bizarre. Patagonia just getting more and more expensive month by month 🙃
WORST BUS EXPERIENCE DO NOT GO WITH THEM. bus broke down on way to bariloche and our tickets said we could get a refund bunt they won’t respond. They owe us over 200,000 pesos each. Never use them
The most expensive bus ticket in the world(40$) for 180km ride from El Calafate to El Chalten and then they are not even able to pay the luggage worker and expect us to tip him…
We got a regular seat instead of a semi-bed for a ride that takes 24 hours. In addition the bus driver told everyone to seat wherever they want and to ignore the booked seats. The bus and seat were dirty.
With this Company you have to pay 2000 tax per person extra, which is written nowhere! With other companys not. Ypu see only when you go into the bus
Terrible service. We wanted to buy bus tickets from El Calafate to Perito Moreno Glacier and even though our hostel had called the office and asked if we could buy tickets at them, the girl/young lady at the office lied to us and said there were no more tickets. She even yelled at us and turned her eyes. Later same day we came back and there was another guy at the office and he said there was plenty of tickets. We have a feeling she refused us because we did not speak spanish. She was the worst ticket seller we have ever experienced and her behavior was really inappropriate. This happened about one month ago.

Wonderful hike and without entrance fee (at least in January 2025). Also we had much less wind here than in other areas.
Stunning viewpoint located in Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina: breathtaking views of Cerro Torre, one of the most iconic peaks in Patagonia, the mirador provides a serene and magical experience amidst the tranquil natural beauty. Best visited in the early morning or late afternoon, when the light creates dramatic contrasts on the mountain's icy face, this peaceful spot is perfect for reflection and photography. The trek to the viewpoint can be challenging, so be prepared with appropriate hiking gear and weather-appropriate clothing.
6hour hike (3there and 3 back). worth it
Very demanding but worthy walk. There are some parts where you need to use a chain or climb (just a few meters). We still managed with a 4 years old, but it was intense.
One of Patagonia best scenic viewpoints and its free! No tickets needed! Easy hike mostly flat . Just last KM is pretty steep and physical demanding
If you just want a good view of Cerro Torre, it gives you just that!
Get a good bluebird day 👌🏻🇦🇷 otherwise you will see this. And the Cerro Torre is insane to see! Weather also changes quickly 🏕️❤️🇦🇷
Great place to stop to take in the awsome scenery. From there I hiked up the ridge....totally worth it and a much better choice than going to the cerro toro lake!

Amazing hike! We did it in 7 hours including taking pictures and rest! We went to both the viewpoints! And the 2nd one and the higher one is definitely worth hiking up for!
Nice hike! Not too hard, although the views are pretty much the same the whole trip. Once you finish the track there's a nice view. But if you week walking towards right you migh find a big group of boulders and rocks, and there, there's an even better view to the river and Cerro Torre.
Out of the three main trails (Torre, fitz roy, tumbado), it is very close to the fitz roy in difficulty. So it's like the second hardest but not by much. There are two Miradors and the top. The higher one requires 30-60min extra steep hill but gives a 360° view of the area. Definitely worth it. Lot of people warn about the wind, maybe I got lucky on the weather but it really wasn't that bad. A small windbreaker was enough. No need for big boots or sticks either. Watch out for the cows tho, I accidentally got too close to a baby and mama wasn't happy. Tried charging me. Would not recommend.
THE MOST AMAZING PLACE IN CHALTEN. For me this was the most beautiful location, you get to see Fitz Roy, laguna torre and the glaciar at once and is not that hard. I highly recommend doing this one. And is not as crowded as Laguna de los tres
Amazing view of Cerro torre if weather permits. When there is cloud coverage you always get an amazing view of Lago Viedma , Cerro Huemul and Cerro solo. Don't sleep on this hike.
Most definitely one of the best views from El Chalten. This trail is about 3700 feet up and over 5 miles long. I didn't quite go to the very top, but you don't have to for the best views in my opinion. Even though it was terrible weather on the way up, the clouds began to break and the sun shown through just before sunset. You never know what the weather in patagonia will be so bring lots of layers. All in all it took about four hours round trip with an extra hour or so at the top. Probably the best, accessible but not easy, view in the this part of the park! You can see Cerro Torre (hidden in clouds), Laguna Torre (center with the campground below it in the greener trees), and Mount Fitz Roy (breaking from the clouds on the right).
Absolutely gorgeous, and worth the 12 mile (round trip) hike. The end of the hike does climb a steep wall in order to get the best views, and probably takes a certain level of fitness. Highly recommend. The views are great throughout and the change in terrain is entertaining, especially coming out of the forested area... You'll see what I mean!
What a hike! One of the two tough hikes we did in El Chalten. Beautiful hike with a huge climb at the end of the way out. Took a lot of effort but look at the views. Be ready to sweat for sure

Mirador del Glaciar Piedras Blancas*offers a breathtaking view of the Piedras Blancas Glacier, located in Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park. This viewpoint is a popular stop for hikers on the trail to Laguna de los Tres, providing a stunning panorama of the glacier’s ice flow surrounded by the rugged Andean landscape.
Very fun and short hike if you camp in the camping site. I really like sitting next to the lagoon and hope to see some ice fall haha
Don't miss this spot when hiking around the Fitz Roy! Breathtaking, incredible and magical views.
Very beautiful view ❤️🇦🇷 The access to the lake is very difficult and you need to walk on the right side of the lake!
This is a beautiful view to take in the glacier and the mountains.
Such a tranquil place, could touch the ice! The lake looks small when viewed from right next to the water. Seen from above is quite big.
This place is great, but I would recommend taking the other path that takes you directly to the lake / glacier - the view from there is even better. That path is quite difficult and I wouldn’t recommend it if you have children, but the view at the end is worth the effort.
Super walk from Rio Electrico to Mirador. 12km walk

Very nice lady, very helpful
Friendly staff to get information. This is the spot to buy bus tickets.
The park rangers help you a lot with all the info about the trails, a nice museum, they have videos of all the trekks and seal of the park for your passport
Helpful and friendly staff that give you all the information you need. I only wish they had topographical maps of the region.
Very nice informative folks who will gladly offer suggestions and a map to assist you for your stay.
Very helpful attendance!

(Translated by Google) I recommend stopping by the information center as soon as you arrive in El Chaltén. It will help you plan your days according to the weather, which is crucial for hiking the main trails. Máxima was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, advising us and helping us organize our five days, which we were lucky enough to experience with plenty of sunshine. 100% recommended as soon as you arrive! (Original) Recomiendo pasar por el centro de informes a penas llegues al Chaltén. Te ayudará a organizar tus días según el clima, tema no menor para hacer los senderos más importantes. Well worth the cost , knowing you’re helping keep some history alive . Informative guide , nice morning tea and a good thing to do on a rainy morning.
was a decent experience, overall could be a bit cheaper with more detailed stories as no member of the family is doing the tour anymore (which was something i thought is still happening)
Joaquin was a great and engaging guide. Good history of an interesting story. Great for a day when not doing Laguna de los tres.
Interesting historic experience in El Chaltén, especially if your legs need a break from hiking. Our guide, Max, was knowledgeable, funny, and kind! We really enjoyed seeing this little slice of the past and learning about Andreas Madsen’s interesting life. The tea/coffee service was also a very nice touch- and delicious! Highly recommend this fun activity ☺️ and thanks again to Max for a wonderful afternoon!
Very interesting and definitely worth a visit , guide was great and coffee and cakes as well!
Can not access by yourself, google map's roads are all blocked by private property. Guess should reserve by travel agents.
The visit gives a good idea of the family and regional history. My guide, Max, is very knowledgeable and gave a great presentation. It was a unique experience.
Highly recommended. You have to book through the agency “walk Patagonia” in advance. It costs 4500 pesos per person. Everyday 3 pm.

Lovely campsite 🏕️ safe from wind 💨 lovely and super delicious apple crumble cake 🍰 Toilets and a common room. No showers… Still lovely people and a great stay!
Very expencive site. You can get food there and so on but staying in the tents will cost the double price of the hostel in Chalten. They pretend to charge you as well for going up the trail to Paso Marconi and Piedra Negra but there are no info about prices and all that looks like a fraud. We did not pay.
A nice little place for camping in the middle of nowhere, with bunk beds to sleep and a restaurant. This camping is a hub from which to go to different great treks around the area. The girl that was running the place was really nice and prepared great food, all made by her: cakes, pasta, pizzas (all much better quality than you would expect in a place like that).
One star is way above the rating to give to this filthy unwelcoming place.
Nice people and delicious food and homemade cakes. You need to have your own sleeping bag, the dorms are basic.
Too expensive. For camping it costs 850 pezo and you get nothing but a flushing toilets. the food and drinks are expensive also.
Wonderful location!! Very nice hosts!

Estancia Los Huemules is a private nature reserve located in the heart of Patagonia, offering visitors a unique blend of adventure and tranquility. Nestled among the towering peaks of the Andes, this 5,800-hectare estate is home to pristine forests, crystal-clear rivers, and breathtaking landscapes. With a variety of trails for hiking and wildlife spotting, visitors can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region, including the chance to see the elusive huemul deer. Estancia Los Huemules provides an exceptional experience for those looking to connect with nature in one of Argentina's most stunning environments.
Very well maintained and quiet trails. We spent 7 hours hiking here today and only saw 6 people! By the way, the price for foreigners is 4000 pesos per person, and you have to get your ticket/permit ahead of time, online. See the last picture for information.
exclusionary elitist conservation with a prohibitve entry fee of 28$. Walk ins are rejected whilst at the same time they are unresponsive via the contact form, which is there suggested mode of booking…
(Translated by Google) It is a recommended destination for trekking and nature lovers. It offers several well-marked and maintained trails that allow you to explore Patagonian landscapes, offering an authentic experience without the crowds. However, there are aspects that could be improved. Booking through the website is tedious and unintuitive. I recommend contacting and booking by WhatsApp or going directly, in this case bring cash for entry because the place does not accept cards. It would be convenient to allow transfers to enter the main area, preventing visitors from having to wait on the route, in our case, in the rain. In addition, the implementation of a basic coffee service and a waiting area in the visitor center would enrich the experience. Estancia Los Huemules is a recommended place for those seeking to connect with nature in a cared for and respectful environment. We went with the Zona Austral transfer with excellent service, punctual and comfortable. (Original) Es un destino recomendable para los amantes del trekking y la naturaleza. We only did the trekking to the Blue and Green Lagoon because we went to do something quiet and with little time. We couldn't get to the fishing beach because the trail was closed, but we took the opportunity to eat on a part of the trail overlooking the blue lagoon. They highly recommended the trail to the Diablo River that ends at the Cagliero glacier.

This jewel of approximately 5,800 hectares, converted into a sanctuary for biodiversity, offers a unique experience where nature is shown in its purest state. Unlike the eroded and overcrowded trails found in other destinations, Los Huemules invites you to travel along narrow and careful paths, where every square meter outside the paths seems intact, as if it had never been stepped on by humans. Inside, visitors can explore landscapes that include rivers, lakes, imposing glaciers, native forests and breathtaking mountains. With strict control of the number of visitors, the reserve ensures the protection of its rich biodiversity, including emblematic species such as the huemul, the Magellanic woodpecker and the Andean condor. The feeling of connection with nature, exclusivity and privacy is unmatched, which turns each tour into a personal and unforgettable experience. In addition, inside is the exclusive Explora hotel, which integrates luxury with sustainability and respect for the environment. This project is not only a wonder for nature lovers, but also a tribute to the commitment of its owners, who invested and dedicated resources to transform a private ranch into a sustainable nature reserve. Thanks to this initiative, today we can all enjoy a space where environmental care and responsible access are prioritized. Hopefully these types of developments will multiply in other parts of the country, allowing us to preserve our nature while offering unique opportunities to connect with it! If you are in El Chaltén, visiting Los Huemules is a must. It is recommended to spend at least one day, although visiting it for 2 or 3 days will allow you to explore its main trails in greater depth. You have to buy your ticket online in advance! I met only five people during the whole day, and it was a beautiful day (I think everyone was at Laguna de los Tres). You have to pay to enter the Devil's Lake refuge (they give you a coffee or tea or something), but since it was $10 USD, I didn't pay and sat in front of the lake to appreciate it. I hiked the trail to Laguna del Diablo and on the way back, I passed by the Green and Blue Lagoon. It was so worth it! I did it all in about 6:30 hours, stopping a bit to appreciate the beauty of the site. Unfortunately, it's very windy at the lagoons, so it's not so nice to stay there for long. I took the transfer that leaves at 8 am so I had time to do it calmly. You have to ask them to drop you off there because that time is more for the Electric River (Laguna de los Tres), but it's right next to it! (Original) Maravilloso!

We visited the Reserva Laguna Nimez during our stay in El Calafate, and it was a lovely experience. The visit takes about one to one and a half hours at a relaxed pace, following a peaceful trail that loops around the lagoon. The entrance fee is 12,000 ARS per person, which feels fair considering the beauty of the place and the tranquility it offers. You can see a wide variety of birds, including flamingos, ducks, and many local species, it’s a real paradise for bird lovers and photographers. The landscape is stunning, with views of the lagoon, the steppe, and the Andes in the background. The paths are easy to walk and well maintained, making it accessible for most visitors. It’s a perfect stop if you want to enjoy nature, take a break from the busy town, and experience a different side of Patagonia. Bring a camera and take your time, it’s well worth it!
I am a big nature fan and so when I had a few hours to kill while in town, I decided to come over here and check it out. The reserve is taken care of very nicely and there is a lot of birdlife to view. The price was a little steep, if I recall about the equivalent of $10, but I suppose that is also to help out the refuge since it is privately run. If you have the time, this is a nice stop while in town, but I would not go out of my way to visit either.
We had a lovely stroll around the reserve. It was quite windy and I was a tad underdressed, so we rushed it a bit. But it was beautiful. We had drinks at a cool cafe/bar afterwards! Across the street.
A brilliant initiative but kinda expensive at 12k per person for a very short walk, however we were happy to support their work. The info boards are weather worn and very difficult to read. The birds themselves though are great and it's truly gorgeous at sunset.
The Laguna itself was great with great wildlife visible for us. However, what really made me sad is that I saw two white horses in really bad condition tied up outside of the Laguna for several days in a row without appropriate feed or water. As a place preserving wildlife providing good care of local animals should be a no-brainer. Otherwise a beautiful place.
It is walking distance from downtown El Calafate. What you can see is purely depended by weather. The weather was okay when I started, but soon I encountered unexpected rain and snow, so I did not see much at all except goose everywhere and flamingo at distance, bird observation stations did not help either.
Nimes Lagoon, an important bird watching centre in El Calafate, 25 minute walk. We saw Upland Geese, black-faced ibis with their long curly like beaks, Southern Lapwing, flamingos and many others. From the reserve you could also walk down to the shore of Lake Argentino. We did this. On the shore we found a Lapwing nest with four eggs in it guarded by two Lapwings, we thought the nest was dangerously exposed to predators and peoples’ dogs that were out on the beach.
Beautiful spot!!! Great place to see a good variety of birds! I’d recommend
