Soaring 6,273-foot mountain with an arduous street biking trail made famous in the Tour de France.
Slide 1 of 8
Iconic mountain in southern France, featured often in Tour de France. Summit finish with 360 degree views. There is a cafe stop near the top. Two routes are popular fir cyclists. Depending on the season, check to make sure they are open as they can be closed for snow.
Stunning place to cycle to and be apart of history. Of course you can enjoy the views from the top not only bike bike but be respectful for the riders to your journey to the top
Spectacular Provence 🇨🇵 giant. Respect for all the bicycle 🚲 heroes ( not the electric 💡 ones) 🫶🏼🙏🏼😎🙂😁
One of the visual landmarks that watch over Provence. For cycling enthusiasts, climbing to the top is a once-in-a-lifetime goal. For those with sporty inclinations, the ascent can be approached both on foot (there are marked routes) and by bicycle. This time, we went up by car starting from Malaucenne. Numerous cyclists on the road, of all ages, to whom drivers must be cautious and offer them the necessary courtesy in traffic. I was impressed by several mountain running enthusiasts I met along the way. The scenery is superb, especially in the alpine hollow area, where the view is absolutely gorgeous at 360 degrees. Pay attention to the weather because, at the top, weather conditions can change radically in a few minutes. Even though it was hot down in the valley (34-36 C), up on the peak, it was only 20-21, and the cold wind was blowing hard. Have a jacket ready, too. Don't forget your supplies as upstairs there is only a souvenir shop and a small bar with a relatively limited offer. Even if you only have one day to visit Provence, if the weather is excellent and the sky is clear, I recommend starting the day with the ascent of Mont Ventoux and then checking off a few other unmissable places: Gordes, Roussilo on, Abbaye de Sennanque, Chateaxuneuf du Pape , Avignon.
You can’t help but feel it’s a cyclists mountain and large amounts of guilt plus ‘hats off’ to all cyclists who make it to the top. Don’t forget a nod to Tom Simpson’s monument near the top. Do read ‘Put me back on my bike’ by William Fotheringhay about his life.
Epic!!! Great climb. The best. Did all three sides. Bedoin Sault Malauscene. Awesome downhills too.
Wow! Busier than expected as there in Mid September, but the weather was good, so maybe not surprising.
Nice mountain worth a visit if you’re in the area. There is a cycle path going up ,which is included in the tour de france, as well as a road. The mountain provides excellent views throughout south east france.

We really enjoyed our walk around these ruins. Its quite amazing how some of the mosaic floors have been restored for you to see and appreciate the history. When you go to the museum there is a notpad in English so you can read about what you are seeing. Some incredibly well preserved artifacts. Then we walked to the Amphitheatre. Wow! To see this still standing albeit with some help is truly amazing. There was another area you could view and walk round outside the main site across the road which we visited but this was an anti-climax after what we had already seen. It needs alot of work tidying it up and bringing it up to the same standard as the original site, We walked through the town which was very pretty down to the Roman bridge. Well worth the walk to appreciate how cleaver these Romans really were!!
Strolling through the market today, followed by exploring the very spot where ancient Romans once traded their goods, was a truly unique experience. You can still feel the presence of history as you walk through the village, with a palpable sense of the past lingering in the air. I removed a star because of the fact that we had to pay to see it from a closer look.
An amazing trip into our past, showing the Gallo Romans using Ikea-style kitting methodology, and a Roman emperor Hadrian as a nude Hellenic hero (and his wife fully dressed) #hetoo ;-)
What a fabulous town with history everyone.
One of the best preserved Roman cities I have seen in my travels around Europe. There is also a small museum in which the layout of one of the houses found is very well explained. To go around the whole place (it is divided in two with two separate entrances) you will need at least two hours.
This was an excellent tour. My guide, Romain from guides de Provence was knowledgeable and interesting. I highly recommend using a guide from Guides de Provence for this site. It really is a Gallo Roman Pompeii and it is too complex and historic to use the earphones.
I’m disappointed that no one mentioned in these reviews that the audiotours are not available, due to sanitary reasons. And there is not a lot of other information, no booklets. A Qr-code didn’t work. There is a leaflet with basically just a map with a lot of Numbers. In the small museum on the site all the signs are in French, nothing in English. I don’t recommend going there this year, a waste of 9 euro’s.
We appreciated this Roman ruins for the rather natural environment that has been kept by this local community and the French cultural effort to be genuine with historical features that remain..Vaison-La-Romaine is a special location to visit for a variety of good reasons..we really enjoyed our afternoon here…

Great roman village, you can walk around, especially in the old city. Climbing all the way up (easy walk) will give you a 360 view over the village and surroundings. Would recommend walking around the village as well on the small roads. You'll get another nice perspective ;)
Lovely spot and paddling in the river is a treat on a hot day!
The setting of the bridge, how it connects the medieval city to the rest of the city looks just great. It is quite cool to see how people take a bath in the river below.
It is very interesting place with a steep climb.Inside the church there are many beautiful and coloured stained glass windows.
Visiting this bridge evokes the catastrophic floods of 1992 which killed dozens. The flood water rose higher than the bridge.
Very cool place, bridge is amazing and river is fun to splash in. Several historic era's represented, and the ubiquitous shopping in the centre-ville.
Ancient roman Bridge on top with cobble stones. The bridge is still in use. You can cross it even by car. As from here you can walk to the old town and his castle.
Amazing light, great atmosphere, lovely food and relaxed. Slightly too many mosquitos though

On Tuesdays they turn the centre of Vaison into a street market. Go early because it draws people from all the surrounding villages.
Nienke provided a lot of useful information about Vaison-la-Romaine and the region. Very clear and helpful. Thank you!
Very helpful with maps and overview of history. Lots of good resources. Would highly recommend!!
Great support in finding a vacation rental. The vacation rental in Seguret was wonderful: great location, great amenities (whirlpool, pool, grill, quiet, plenty of space). The landscape is beautiful, lots of nature, and great wine. We'd love to come back.
If you are in Vaison la Romaine stop in. Lots of information about the area and local attractions as well as a very good selection of souvenirs and local products for sale.
Super helpful folks, full of ideas on how best to explore the area!
Plenty of information on places of interest to visit. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Good service and ability to guide you on your vacation. Don't worry they speak fluent English :)

Great selection of (very) local organic biodynamic and natural wines. Fantastic place for a “refreshing” pit stop, Mathieu will help you to discover hidden gems from the smallest producers.
Was recommended by a local. Timing may have been poor. Only ones in the restaurant. Came for drinks. Service mediocre. Wine only so-so.
Best wine I've ever had and great service!
Mathieu runs an amazing shop and is super knowledgeable. We are returning for dinner this week. We had a very nice tasting. Highly recommended
Excellent selection of great wines, available by the glass or bottle and perfectly located on the main square in Vaison. Owner Mathieu is very friendly and speaks English! This is the best wine bar to go to in town.
Excellent choice of wines and very pleasant ambiance. Highly recommended for a convivial evening.
Great value wine and very knowledgeable staff. This show is truly a gem

We had an amazing visit here. More than enought to fill an entire day. The staff speeks quite a few languages, dutch, english,... They were really amicable and supportive. They came to aid every time we looked like we needed it. Also great with the kids. There is also enough shadow to hide from the sun while drinking something cold 😃 Definately worth a visit!
We have been here several times now over the past 5 or 6 years with our two young sons: every time has been brilliant. This is not least thanks to the staff who are unfailingly enthusiastic; they are welcoming and friendly, superb at ensuring the kids understand what to do, and constantly alert to the slightest moment of difficulty they - or anyone - may encounter. Zip wires and courses have been added recently, enhancing a place which has always felt well maintained: exciting but safe. Highly recommended.
My 8, 6 and 3-year-old all loved our afternoon here so much! Thank you for an incredible experience. There was something for everyone, and my son loved the toddler section.
Been there five times with 3 kids, always great. friendly, fun and peaceful. highly recommended
If you and your family likes rope courses this is the place to go. The are plenty of courses and there are some for every age and skill level/dare devil. Friendly staff and nice setting. Highly recommended!
Great fun for kids (6 and 8 ) and grownups. Friendly and proffesional staff. The parc seems to be well maintained. Lots of shade so perfect for a hot day. Recommend a visit here!
Kids really enjoyed this adventure....Great obstacles and zip lines for all levels...really worth a trip...wish I wasn't in my flip flops or I'd have had a go!
I have been many times over the last few years with my two children (now 11 and 7) and every time the levels of professionalism and care and friendliness are outstanding. Good for all ages and everyone is taken care of. Even in really hot weather the whole park is just shady enough to be comfortable (morning slots preferred perhaps). Nothing is too much trouble and the instructors are kind and understanding and above all extremely encouraging to participants who might need a bit of help. Safety is of course impeccable and all Covid stuff taken seriously. Five stars all the way!

I was lucky enough to find Danmas Boutique two years ago. As soon as I entered the shop I knew it was going to become my favourite shop in the area. The boutique is a realm of calm where you can lose yourself amongst beautifully handcrafted items from around the world. I have lost myself many times there, proof of that is that I have Danmas items all over my home😃. The owner, Amer is a real gentle-man. He always greets his clients with a big smile and he will continue with that big smile until you leave. You can really feel his passion for well made things and how he cares for every single item he sells. Go visit, you won’t be disappointed.
This store has a beautiful collection of handpicked artisan items. I loved every single piece!! Highly recommend a visit to Danmas. Very happy with my new silk pillow.
We were visiting Vaison La Romaine last week and saw this great boutique with many interesting accessories and hand made products. The owner was extremely nice and very helpful and assisted us in selecting a throw. I bought a beautiful throw for the sofa made in the Middle East. I was very happy with my purchase and noticed that prices were very reasonable. Thank you Amer for being kind and friendly!
An incredible shop. So many beautiful items - everywhere you look there was something to catch your eye. The owner was so helpful and kind - and also gave great tips for the local area too! A must visit!
Danmas is a very charming and special store where every object is stunning and has a story. I passed the place once while vacationing in the region and keep coming back and placing orders online. Highly recommend!
Beautiful shop in a beautiful town; friendly & helpful owner who is not pushy at all. Gorgeous throws & cushions but also lovely jewelry . Very happy with my purchases.
Very unique items and nice experience totally different than any other shops in the area… thanks for the hospitality and the services.Dr Zaher.
Beautifull store in the middle of this authentic city. The shop owner has a very unique collection with hand picked items all over the world, mostly central Asia. It is hard not to buy anything! So of course I couldn't leave without a mirror for our new home and a ring for myself.

If you’ve not ridden an electric bike this is the place to try one. Fantastic welcome, great service and throughly nice people.
We rented two VTT/mountain bike ebikes. Really fun ride in the trails of the Dentelles de Montmirail, but the service was absolutely five stars: we got lots of help, clear communication, and friendly. Plus, in English!
We rented road and E-bikes for a tour of Vaison. We could not have been more pleased with the customer service and quality of the bikes. We downloaded an app to guide our way which worked perfectly.
Their grey no-brandname ebikes are rubbish: the old-fashioned front wheel pull engine underperformed badly. The day before we had also rented a Gazelle ebike and a gravel ebike for a full day from Sun-e-bike: those were much better (with Bosch engines). Those are also their most expensive bikes... The Gazelles were like new and drove pleasantly. The gravel ebike on the contrary already had quite a lot of miles on it and many scuffs to the paintwork. The disc brakes of that bike were not very well maintained, with loud squealing brake noises on the descents, lacking adequate stopping power. Batteries and tires on all bikes were in good condition. Paperwork was fast and easy. Friendly service as well. 2 EUR extra for damage/theft insurance. Their branch in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is closed. You can get their bikes now at camping L'art de Vivre on reservation, but only the old grey front-wheel drive ebikes are available there, so I wouldn't bother.
Excellent service, advice and price! Detailed and easy to follow itineraries with descriptions and photos. Highly recommended for scenic and relaxed bike tours.
The bikes we're great but the best thing is the friendly staff who helped us feel welcome, showed us some routes and had great communication. Thanks guys
I rented a race bike for a week and everything went fine. Staff very kind and helpfull regarding the bike and routes around the area.
Wonderful. Great bikes and service.
