My daughter and I booked the Midgard Adventure guided day hike for Þórsmörk. Our guide Ragnar took us on a stunningly beautiful hike and did an excellent job encouraging me, because I was the least fit of the group. He provided interesting geological and historical information for the area and Iceland as a whole, as well as funny commentary that kept us all laughing. The Midgard base camp was well stocked and easy to get to. The entire experience was stress free and an amazing adventure. Would book again and recommend to all.
We had a fantastic Super Jeep Tour into the Highlands to Landmannalaugar with Midgard. Our guide David led the tour with a great sense of humor and deep knowledge about Iceland. Even though the weather in the Highlands can change extremely quickly, I always felt safe and well taken care of thanks to his experience. The scenery is truly breathtaking – at times it feels like being on another planet. For anyone who wants to experience Iceland in a very special way and has the time (and the budget), this tour is absolutely worth it!
We did the Þórsmörk Super Jeep Tour in late October 2025. Ragnar was our guide - and he was not only a fantastic driver but entertained us the entire day with the most interesting stories about Icelandic geology, history, customs and myths. Ragnar - you are the best (even though you ‘made us looking for stones for 10 minutes and enjoyed it ;-)! We saw a lot of the fantastic wilderness - glaciers, waterfalls, hidden valleys and a cave. Our day was rounded up by a hike to the top of a mountain with an amazing view and lunch at one of the cabins in the area. After our return, we had dinner at the Midgard Base Camp - yummy! Thanks to entire team for an unforgettable adventure.
If you travel to Iceland and don't spend some time with the Midgard family, I'm sorry ... you're doing it wrong! Great accommodations, great people, great tours and great food! If/when I return to Iceland I will book with Midgard again.
We booked the Þórsmörk Super Jeep Tour with Holly as our guide. It was amazing! Holly talked to us about Iceland geology and took us to various locations of interest. We started at Landeyjahöfn black sand beach, across from the island of Vestmannaeyjar, then drove to Þórsmörk. We got to see the massive Eyjafjallajökull glacier then walked through the Stakkholtsgjá canyon. Stopped for lunch and had a short hike then drove to another hike at Basar á Goðalandi. At the end of the day on the way back to base camp one of the massive tires blew but Holly did an incredible job of controlling the Jeep and getting us to the side of the road and to safety. The day was beautiful, the company was great, and overall we were extremely happy with our tour. Would definitely recommend for a stress free, adventure filled day.
My wife and I took Midgard Adventure’s 7 day Epic Midgard Trek and it was truly epic! This is a great tour and a great family-run company. We started with a night at Midgard Base Camp where the staff could not have been more friendly and the food was truly excellent. Lamb skewers and arctic char were both delicious. We finished the evening soaking in the hot tub. The next morning we were off in a super jeep that took us to an off-the-beaten path trailhead in a “high heat” area where we walked through steaming lava vents. All of day one was off trail and spectacular. We are experienced hikers and this was our best day of hiking ever….as in ever! Our tour guide Thorir was as local as local gets, born and raised in town. He literally knew everyone in town and many guides on the trail. That said on Day 1 we were absolutely alone for most of the day, absorbing the unimaginable beauty of the changing Icelandic scenery. Hiking days 2, 3 & 4 were on the world famous Laugavegur trail which brought us into contact with many backpackers from across the world; it was fun to chat and compare stories. We slept in huts which was a fun experience but definitely made better by having ear plugs (someone always snores)! Plus we saw the Northern Lights which was a great bonus! Day 5 was the AMAZING Fimmvörðuháls trail. A 15 mile demanding hike up 1000m through glaciers and lava fields, plus a gazillion amazing waterfalls. Midgard transported our packs from place to place and delivered fresh food, veggies and bread daily. We just carried water and day clothing. A true glamping experience foodwise! We HIGHLY recommend Midgard Adventures as a company and Midgard Base Camp for excellent food and as a place to stay and use as a base camp. We are in our late 50’s and work out several times a week. The 7 day hike is for folks who are in good shape and can handle several 12 mile days of hiking with ups and downs in a row. Nothing technical in term of hiking but it’ll keep your muscles toned and moving! And it’s well worth getting into shape for! You will not be disappointed!
Had the greatest time on Day Hike Tour to Thorsmork. The entire experience was incredible. The guide knew the area very well. We had great weather for our hike but the guide told us that they are able to adjust their hikes based on the conditions. I will definitely recommend Midgard Adventure to my friends!
Our experience with Midgard Adventure was absolutely incredible. We took a private super Jeep tour into Þórsmörk for our wedding photography session. Our guide, Alessandro, was great, and we had an amazing evening. They were flexible and it was all around just so much fun. A few days later, Midgard went above and beyond for us on our wedding day. At 6 in the morning as I got ready in Reykjavik, I decided to email Midgard to see if we could stop in at their base camp for make up touch ups before going to our ceremony location 15 minutes away. I figured we would just use the bathroom in the lobby. Harpa replied not long after saying yes of course and even showed us a private area we could use. It was incredibly kind of them. We cannot recommend Midgard Adventure enough! First two photos by Ívar Eyþórsson.

An outstanding exhibition! The interactive and educational displays make it easy for people of all ages to understand the incredible geological activity happening beneath our feet. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable, adding to the overall great experience. There’s also a lovely café and restaurant on-site, as well as a well-stocked gift shop. A must-visit for anyone interested in Iceland’s natural forces!
Adorable museum to learn about volcanic geology, earthquakes, and tectonic plate activity above and below ground. Interactive visuals and great family fun! Totally recommend.
Quite an interesting museum how about volcanoes, what they are, how they work, and historical eruptions throughout the country. Interactive displays throughout, as well as a short film, showing some of the major eruptions over the past few decades. There’s an observation deck on top of the museum with signs showing you where the volcanoes are located that you can see from there. There is also a nice coffee shop and lounge just off the gift shop.
Incredible hands-on experience for all ages! Learn about volcanoes and earthquakes through multi-sensory exhibits including earthquake platforms, and motion sensor (?) visual interactive displays. Staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Make sure to go up to the rooftop and see the volcanoes you learned about! Oh, and the food in the pub was lovely. Our group had the Meaty pizza and Chickpea and Sweet Potato Curry, which were really good. Staff there were also great!
The Lava Centre was a great experience very well done and highly interactive for children. I really appreciated all the explanations about volcanoes and Iceland’s volcanic nature. The price is a bit on the high side, but overall it’s definitely worth visiting.
The Lava center is a great stop on your exploration of Southern Iceland, its a 1.5 hour drive from Reykjavik and perfectly situated for a coffee and rest break. They have a lovely cafe and Restaurant onsite. The experience is more educational than entertaining. The introductory movie is excellent and left me with a sense of trepidation about the overwhelming destructive power of the nearby volcanoes and especially my proximity to them… The exhibits are educational and the magma plume exhibit is excellent. I highly recommend visiting the Lava center.
If I'm being honest, it feels a bit expensive for what it is, however, if you are interested in the geology of Iceland, this is still an essential stop. The interactive and immersive exhibits make this a very engaging and interesting experience from start to finish and do a good job of explaining the geologic processes and history of Iceland.
Absolutely incredible displays! Everything is interactive. Loved every bit, but especially feeling the earthquakes!

Amazing waterfall and you can walk behind it (*grab a raincoat). Great view. Also you can go in the right of the waterfall (as you stand with the waterfall behind you) and you'll find another waterfall inside a cave, pretty cool.
Must see - bottom of waterfall views are easy access for all abilities. We climbed to the top and went an additional 2 miles down the trail. Plan for crowds and all types of weather.
Beautiful water falls and many different views. Can walk to the backside of the falls and capture some amazing photos. Carry a proper water proof wear/ rain coat. In summer itself the temperature was almost 0 degrees.
This waterfall is a must-see; what makes it special is that you can walk behind it. A parking lot is in the immediate vicinity, as well as restrooms, a souvenir shop, and a snack bar.
Beautiful waterfall and definitely worth a stop! Be prepared to get really wet - waterproof clothes are a must! There’s a cute souvenir shop and a nice little food truck by the parking area. Clean toilets, parking costs 1000 ISK. Only minus: it’s very touristy, but still an amazing experience overall!
It is stunning scene in front of the waterfall. Rainbow appears over the waterfall due to reflection of sunlight in the water mist.
In a country of spectacular waterfalls this is one of the standouts, but be prepared to get very wet! Getting anywhere near to Seljalandsfoss, and especially if you walk behind it, you will get soaked, so make sure you have a good waterproof jacket and trousers. The kiosk in the car park sells cheap ponchos if you’ve not come prepared, and there’s also decent toilets and a small cafe. As this is close to the ring road, and on everyone’s must see list, you can’t escape the crowds, but the circular route under the falls keeps people moving, so there’s never much of a holdup, especially as everyone is getting soaked. The car park is not huge, and, there’s a fee, but attendants were doing a good job of finding spaces and keeping cars moving.
One of my favorite waterfalls in Iceland so far. The short walk to the falls is very easy, and going around the falls is a very fun experience. Just be sure to take rain gear, you can get sprayed with tons of mist when you go around the falls. If you continue around the trail, there is another waterfall that you can walk through a little cave creek to get to it. There can be lots of tourists there, so try to get there early.

Very nice place in the south of Iceland. Nice waterfalls. I recommend going up and seeing the beautiful landscape of the area from the top of the waterfall. At the top of the waterfall on beautiful sunny days you can relax nicely.
We added this one in on a whim because it wasnt far from our guesthouse. Its an off the beaten path waterfall so you wont have many other people while you are there but its beautiful and definitely worth visiting. You do have to pay for parking. Its 1,000 ISK. There are no restrooms here. Theres a second, adjacent fall that you cant access but that you can photograph. It takes 5 min to climb it for good photos. The one note that I would offer...if you are traveling to Seljalandsfoss from here you are going to be taken on a long journey across a gravel road to be brought back out to route 1 just before Seljalandsfoss. Lots of birds along this road...we even saw an Oystercatcher on eggs. Plan 20 minutes for a Gluggafoss stop and wear hikers.
Beautiful waterfall, with multiple layers. You can see the waterfall from the second last picture, if you climb the trail up the mountain! Defintly worth a visit :)
Gluggafoss is easy to reach and has a short trail leading to several viewpoints. The waterfall’s unique rock formations make it different from any other in Iceland. It’s usually not crowded, which makes the visit even nicer. A great quick stop along the South Coast.
Terrific place! It worth to spend more time there. A lot of waterfalls in one place. You can see only two of them from parking lot side and also you can walk behind water, you can go upstairs and see this big waterfall closer. And there is also a path on top of this hill, so you will see two more beautiful and big waterfalls. Parking is free, so why not to hike a bit. This place worth to stay there for long🙂
One of the small waterfalls that tends to be overlooked by the big ones. It was recommended to us by a lady in the hotel we stayed in as we were looking for a place nearby to visit to take advantage of the last hour of daylight. Great place, there is a small car park there and you can walk up close to the waterfall. The best thing was that there was no one else there!
Off the beaten path a bit, this is one of the least crowded waterfalls I visited. Amazingly beautiful and well worth the drive to see. You can have this spot to yourself for some pictures, picnic, or whatever.
Kind of a hidden gem, it's certainly not as touristic as the other major waterfalls around. There are not many people here, so it's good for taking photos. Absolutely worth a visit if you're not on a tight schedule, as you would need just a small deviation from the ring road.

As someone who doesn’t really do guided tours when I travel-I was umming and ahhing about the cost of a full day tour. I kick myself thinking I mightn’t have done it. I will remember this day for the rest of my life. We did the 5-6 hour Thorsmork tour, which ended up being private as no one else had booked! There’s a reason this is the best company. Unnar’s been doing it 17 years, he’s a legend and he’s HILARIOUS and he makes the best icelandic hot dog!! We felt like we made a new friend that day. If you have the money, or even if you don’t please spend it here on your trip to Iceland. You will cherish the memories for life!!!
Absolutely AMAZING ! Our travel agent booked this private tour for us. Our Iceland vacation ended perfectly with this as our last event. Our guide gave us great local info, shared some beautiful sites (that cannot typically be seen) and kept us entertained with humor and lovely outdoor meal. Thank you so much - BEST TOUR IN ICELAND
Absolutely AMAZING ! BEST TOUR IN ICELAND 🇮🇸❄️ Embarking on the Óbyggðaferðir ATV Quad tour turned our Iceland Christmas holiday into a truly enchanting experience. With just the four of us, the private adventure exceeded all expectations, going above and beyond what we could have imagined. Garðar, our guide, not only showcased the breathtaking highlands but added a touch of humor that made the journey unforgettable. It was a spontaneous decision that evolved into the highlight of our trip, leaving us with memories to cherish. A resounding 1000% recommendation for a tour that effortlessly combines thrills, laughter, and unparalleled beauty. Thank you so much and see you soon!😀 - Jake
This was absolutely the highlight of my trip to Iceland and I cannot recommend more. The owner and guide has a deeply funny wit and a passion for showing off parts of the highlands that no other tourist may ever see. If the website isn't working for you, definitely call and let him know what you are looking for and he is very willing to tailor a trip to your needs regarding time and price. Pictures could not adequately represent the beauty we saw on our atv ride with him. I have travelled the world and never seen such incredible colors and landscape. I echo others in that it was worth every penny and to give your business to this knowledgeable and fun local as opposed to a big company.
Incredible experience! We had a great time and saw amazing sights. 😊
I chose ATV Tours because I wanted to be somewhere where the crowds weren't. What I didn't expect was a personally guided ATV trip into the highlands for just my family. Garðar is the owner, and has a passion for ATV-ing and the highlands. He is knowledgeable, friendly and can adapt the trip based on everyone's skill level. Garðar promised that we would not see another person and he delivered. I can know say that I have seen parts of Iceland that few, if any have. Stunning views of secret waterfalls, river canyons, and vistas that go on for miles. ATV Tours location is perfect if you a driving the ring road and want to mix in adventure trips as you drive. It is also a fantastic way to see the highlands. Memories that will last a lifetime! Thank you, Garðar!
We had an amazing time here! Great “restaurant” service and the best lamb we had throughout our trip. After travelling around Iceland for 11 days, this tour was one of our best highlights and would highly recommend anyone to go.
One of the highlights on our trip. Unnar is a great guy, his ATVS are awesome and new. Amazing scenery, great views, you would have to be brain dead to have a bad time. Its a special time and clearly all his reviews are excellent and for good reason. Its all breathtaking and so much fun. THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!

Nearly hidden waterfall in a narrow canyon that cascades into a pool near the famous Seljalandsfoss.
Slide 1 of 8
This waterfall is a short and easy 10 minute walk from Seljialandfoss. Once you get to the entrance, you will have to walk on top of several rocks through a narrow passage in order to get a full view of the hidden waterfall. Once inside, the view is spectacular and you will get wet from the mist. Definitely worth a visit.
Nice hidden waterfall. You have to walk on rocks through the stream to get there. Bring rain gear and waterproof boots. Well worth the hike.
Visited a waterfall in Rangárþing eystra — absolutely stunning! Powerful, breathtaking, and surrounded by incredible Icelandic landscapes. The mist, the views from the top, the sheer force of nature — unforgettable. A must-see!
Located right next to Seljalandsfoss, this waterfall is hidden deep within a narrow canyon. Entering through a small gap in the rocks, you’ll find a magnificent waterfall about 40 meters high. The area around the basin is filled with mist, so waterproof gear is essential. The view of the waterfall from inside the cave is truly breathtaking.
Gorgeous waterfall in a crevice! Totally worth getting my sneakers a little wet. Rain boots or other waterproof shoes would be the best option since you do have to walk a very short distance through the stream to see the waterfall, but there are rocks to balance on.
The most beautiful waterfall! A raincoat and shoe covers are a must. Advice: if you don't have shoe covers, so as not to wet the niches, then put a plastic bag inside your shoes, this will protect you! The views are amazing!!! Enjoy!
Gljúfrabúi feels like a hidden gem tucked away near Seljalandsfoss. To get to it, you squeeze through a narrow opening in the rocks, and once inside, you’re surrounded by cliffs with the waterfall cascading down—it feels almost magical. We went right after visiting Seljalandsfoss, and it was absolutely worth the short walk. You will get wet, so make sure to wear waterproof footwear. Such a breathtaking and unique experience!
This hidden waterfall is worth the short walk—just follow the narrow path and step carefully across river stones. I was lucky to have it almost to myself, but on my way out, a large tour group was just arriving. So it was a little tight to pass them with water on the side. Peaceful and magical when it’s quiet.

This place is cool. It feels like a great hall where the benches and tables all face in towards the center. The museum is pretty good, nothing special. It is not impressive from the outside but you are in the right place. The burgers are very very good. Made fresh after you order at the bar. Their Valhalla lager is good. After 3,the 4th one was even better. Would go again for sure.
I wasn’t impressed with the food here. I ordered the BBQ ribs and they weren’t good at all, and the coleslaw wasn’t any better. It seems like this spot is more about the bar scene and pool tables than the restaurant side. The setup is community-style seating, which might appeal to some, but the dining area felt pretty empty with just a few people playing pool nearby. Maybe it picks up later in the evening, but as far as the food goes, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Nice place, nice atmosphere, casual dining. A great place for friends gathering as well as having a unique dining experience. There is also a Viking museum, but now a bit abandoned (note that there is a very realistic figure that probably was used to be standing, but now lying on a stand, which myself and another customer got freaked out, thinking that it was a real dead person 🤣). There were also a number of things that you can play there, like throwing axe and pool table.
I had the best pulled pork burger here! 🍔 The flavor and presentation were fantastic, and the fries 🍟 were equally delicious. The restaurant has a unique layout like a theater setup 🎭. On top of that, there’s a small museum 🖼 and a cool gaming area with snooker 🎱, darts 🎯 and more. It’s definitely one-of-a-kind! After eating, we played some pool and darts 🎯 and had an amazing time. Highly recommend this place for both great food and fun activities!
Interesting concept, a pseudo Viking mead hall with axe throwing and a small museum. We got hamburger that was really pretty average, for the price there are better deals. Maybe this is a place to drink or party but it was calm when we were there about 1700. The museum is interesting but poorly lit. Bathrooms are clean.
It so exceeded my expectations! The dry aged ribeye was heaven. I enjoyed the museum and axe throwing with my group.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND to visit when in Iceland!! Viking vibes are immaculate and the best burger in Iceland Ive ever tasted!!! The museum they have is so worth looking at and so much entertainment!
A special place with a true Viking atmosphere. The simplicity of the lights and the furnishings is authentic. In the hallway, there is an opportunity to throw an axe in a secured area while waiting for your food.

The view from the hotel is great. Also so good and romantic restaurant. There horses are the best and today was a mother and baby horse together then there is a hidden canyon with beautiful waterfalls
The location and facilities did not disappoint. The food in the restaurant was amazing. We opted to dine here twice for dinner during our stay. The complementary breakfast was excellent and fueled us for busy days exploring nearby. We took the 2 hour horseback riding tour up the mountain behind the manor, glorious views, wonderful guide, and outstanding Iceland horses. Also walked to the waterfall down the road and enjoyed the ambience to be seen in every direction.
My favorite place to stay in Iceland. The entire property is stunning. The interior has so many beautiful details. The beds are very comfortable and the environment is so peaceful. The animals on the property (we’ve encountered stunning horses and two lovely dogs) are all a true highlight. If you can sign up for a horse riding session you won’t regret it! Breakfast is truly amazing. Try the cinnamon latte-you won’t regret it. Every single member of the team has always been lovely and made us feel right at home. We had the pleasure of staying there for two of my birthdays over the past few years and I honestly am so excited to visit again!
Can’t say enough great things about this place. My wife and I just spent 4 nights here and the staff was so friendly. They do a great breakfast in the morning and brewed tea just for my wife. You definitely have to eat at least one meal here, dinner was fantastic, especially the ice cream! We also had to leave early out final day and they set out coffee, tea, and pastries for our drive to the airport because it was before breakfast would be served. The hot tub and sauna are also great and it’s such a cozy vibe nestled in the valley. Again just huge kudos to the team here can’t wait to come back!
Was here for their 1 hour horseback riding tour for 100k+ ISK. Quite worth it imo! It’s actually at the Skalakot stables beside the hotel. Trainer was nice enough to offer us two options to get back: the same way or through river crossings. We chose the river crossing, went past two rivers on the horses! Quite an experience I’d say, would definitely recommend the experience.
Beautiful boutique hotel with amazing staff and a great (though pricey) restaurant. Horseback riding was a highlight of our trip! Included breakfast was delicious.
The food wasn't bad, but it lacked flavor. The service was poor—you could tell the waitress was kind, but she was clearly overwhelmed, with too much to handle on her own, and couldn't focus on providing good service. After finishing our meal, we waited 15 minutes before deciding to go to the counter and ask for the check. We ended up wasting a lot of time on our last day of vacation
Fantastic hotel (spacious room, lovely surroundings, helpful staff), with an excellent breakfast (loved the hot food). Wish we had stayed longer to enjoy the facilities and activities around the area like horse riding and hiking.

I visited UNA Local Product 🇮🇸 and was charmed by museum-like ambiance, designs and intricate drawings. The shop offers a wide array of high-quality products, including locally crafted souvenirs, cozy wool clothing, and adorable reindeer-style baby shoes, showing high craftsmanship and attention to detail. A unique opportunity to purchase authentic Icelandic goods but highly expensive as everything else in Iceland.
This is a local, family-owned handcraft and souvenir shop in Hvolsvöllur just off the Ring Road making it convenient to stop by and visit while travelling around the south of Iceland. Opening hours are around 9am to 5-6pm daily. You'll find lots of handcraft items, foods and other gifts you can purchase to support local Icelandic businesses and to remember your trip to Iceland.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting an Icelandic souvenir shop during my trip, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The shop was beautifully decorated with Icelandic motifs, creating an authentic and charming ambiance. The selection of souvenirs was impressive, featuring a wide range of unique and handcrafted items that truly showcased the beauty and culture of Iceland. I was thrilled to find a variety of traditional Icelandic wool products, such as cozy sweaters and blankets, which made for perfect gifts for my loved ones back home. What truly set this shop apart was the knowledgeable and friendly staff. They were genuinely passionate about their country and took the time to share interesting stories and insights about the products. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and it made the shopping experience even more enjoyable. The quality of the souvenirs was exceptional, reflecting the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into creating each piece. I felt confident that I was purchasing authentic and locally made products, which added an extra layer of value to my souvenirs. I would highly recommend this Icelandic souvenir shop to anyone looking for meaningful and high-quality mementos of their trip. The combination of a welcoming atmosphere, a diverse selection of unique items, and the genuine passion of the staff truly made it a standout experience.
It looks like a good store of local products, many good gift ideas, special items, prices appropriate to the concept of precisely helping the real economy of the place. But back home, making gift packages for friends, I found it strange to read "Estonia" on the label of one of the magnets. Only one, the others have same "Nordic Gifts" label with no provenance. Now, I have several doubts about the whole thing. It's a pity.
Best place for a super wide range of Icelandic made goods. I’ve been to a few “handmade” stores, but this had a much better selection. Everything from tea towels, books, wool, sweaters, and tshirts to high end locally made body products. It’s right behind the discount grocery store- super large and you’ll find something for everyone here.
This place is adorable and has a wide variety of cool items!
Very nice items for sale - wide selection of items, from clothing and accessories, candy, art, textiles. Prices were not bad for Iceland.
I have a pretty weird size but I found something that was big and beautiful with a perfect fit. I love my handknitted lopapeysa from high-quality Icelandic wool!

Completely Epic!! It’s not just about the destination (which is a waterfall worth seeing) - the journey is even better. Navigate the wilderness up the river, over rocks, and along canyon walls. Adventure with your family while avoiding the tour bus crowds. It was one of the best parts of our trip. Truly a must do!!
I am so happy we decided to go here, I have some tips for you so you can have a successful visit: 1. You need a 4x4 vehicle that can drive on F roads. It's totally doable in a duster. 2. Most of the hike was in water, be prepared to hop on rocks or get your feet wet. Depending on how much rain fell you are very likely to get your feet soaked. 3. Bring a change of clothing or rain gear. 4. Don't stop at the first waterfall, it is worth going to the next one. It's not that bad to climb up the first waterfall using the chain. 5. It's free! Take time to take it all in and enjoy. It's magical. The trip back is just as adventurous and fun. Feel free to check out my photos to get a sense of the space.
Nauthúsagil waterfall and the canyon leading up to it are one of those hidden-gem experiences in Iceland that feel like a small adventure. The canyon is narrow and dramatic, with moss-covered walls and a stream running through it, creating a magical atmosphere as you make your way toward the falls. It’s not just about the waterfall at the end — the journey through the gorge is what makes it special. The hike itself isn’t long, but it does require a bit of effort and agility. You’ll be walking in the stream at times, scrambling over rocks, and even using chains bolted into the rock walls to help pull yourself along. Waterproof boots and good balance make a big difference, and expect to get at least a little wet along the way. That said, the adventure adds to the charm, and it’s accessible to most people with a moderate level of fitness. The waterfall itself is tucked away deep in the canyon, cascading down a narrow chute of rock. It may not be as massive as some of Iceland’s more famous falls, but its hidden, enclosed setting makes it feel intimate and rewarding once you reach it. The light filtering into the canyon can make for stunning photos, especially if you go when it’s quieter. This spot doesn’t draw the same crowds as Iceland’s big-name waterfalls, but it has become more popular in recent years. Visiting early in the morning or later in the evening can help you avoid groups and enjoy the canyon in a more peaceful way. Parking is available nearby, and the start of the trail is easy to find, though the signage isn’t as bold as at major attractions. Overall, Nauthúsagil is about the experience as much as the destination. If you’re up for a short but adventurous canyon walk with a bit of scrambling and don’t mind getting wet, it’s one of the most atmospheric waterfall hikes in southern Iceland and well worth including in your trip.
Beautiful hike thru a canyon to a waterfall. There is a section you have to walk on a wet wall hanging on the provided chains. Not recommended if there was/ is heavy rainfall as you are walking in the river for most of the walk.
Epic place, 10 min walk to end of the path and then cca 15 min onto a wet stepping stones and chain climbing wet rock next to a small waterfall. You will definitely get wet shoes, count with that as most of the path is in a stream.
The most magical place we visited. We were lucky to do this hike alone with no one else around which was just incredible. It is a fairly easy hike but it does require walking through a lot of the river (which was fairly high for us as it is October) so I had very wet feet by the end but worth every moment. The climb up the first mini waterfall is fairly easy using the chain. The way down was a little more slippery but manageable if you take your time and go cautiously.
Awesome place. It’s a challenge to reach the end of the trail, but it’s worth it. The walk takes 20 to 30 minutes. You will walk on stones in the water. The road to this location stops just before the F249. You will drive on the 249. Parking is free. Ohh and watch out for falling sheep
This is a fantastic hike of walking over rocks crossing a small river in a short canyon. There is a technical spot where you must hang on a chain to climb up the waterfall. Once your there WOW

Incredible experience last week flying over the Grindavik eruption. Fairly priced and very friendly staff. Would strongly recommend it for anyone visiting Iceland during an eruption and the weather is clear!
Amazing experience. The pilot was so knowledgeable and kind. Great views and a lovely landing halfway through. All the staff even in the office could not have been more helpful. I had booked as a birthday treat for my partner and can say I am so glad I did 👏👏👏
Excellent tour from start to finish! Upon arrival at the Reykjavik FBO we were treated with warm smiles and professional courtesy. We met our pilot who explained in great detail the areas where he was going to take us. His demeanour left us feeling very confident. The pilot ensured that the seating arrangements were clearly understood by all passengers, ensuring that all of us were granted the opportunity to have the best possible views. The weather was optimum for flying and our tour took us over most of the most recent eruption sites. We had the most impressive landing at the 2021 eruption site. Landing on a 4 year lava field with visual thermal emissions present was wild! We toured over the Blue Lagoon area, lava fields and several volcanic craters. Impressive tour all the way. The only way this tour could have been better was if there was an ongoing eruption! Well done Atalntsflug!! ++ Recommendation. Very professional.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Incredible experience. So organised, on time, safe, reliable, clear communication, and made sure we all got great views no matter what seats we had. Pilot even took photos of us with the helicopter. Highly recommend if you are visiting in volcano eruption season, a once in a lifetime opportunity. Fantastic team, cannot thank them enough!
Wonderful experience!!! My husband and I celebrated our birthdays on the Iceland sky! The pilot and the staff helpfull, friendly and professional!!! We highly recommend Atlantsflug!
I was fortunate enough to enjoy the scenic flight from Skaftafell. I sat in the co-pilot's seat and had perfect views. The entire process and organization were flawless. The impressions from the flight were indescribable, the photos fantastic. It was a highlight of my trip. I highly recommend the tour operator. Thank you so much!
Last minute booking but they had lots of availability. Amazing flight over the erupting volcano and we spent far longer overhead than I expected. The pilot made sure passengers on both sides got a great view. Highly recommend this company!
I had an excellent experience with this company last week. They kept me informed in the days prior to my reservation about weather conditions and tour options. When I arrived I was seated in a comfortable lounge with refreshments. Gunnar, our pilot, was friendly and professional. It was my first helicopter ride and he made me feel confident and comfortable. He was very informative and enjoyed telling us about what we were seeing. Well worth the money, and I would never miss a chance to fly with them again on my next trip!

Very Nice pool and friendly staff, would recommend
Wonderful place, nice gym, pool with a slide and hot tubs❤️ staff is friendly
I, a woman, looked out the open window in the locker room and looked straight into the eyes of a man walking by. He just looked into the open window at the view inside, the view being my naked body. I told a staffmember (a male) when on my way out and he kind of laughed and said (jokingly) that was amazing. I did not laugh at that joke. The pool itself was fine.
The changing rooms were absolutely stunning and spotless. and the swimming pools were beautiful and very fun. I definitely like this place.
Facilities are good but the experience are to my disliking. Sauna is new and good, outside dressing room shower is cold and no way to adjust. The hottest tub is measly 35°c say it is between 38-41°c adequate temp 40-42°c. Swimming pool is ok.
Very good public pool area located in the school in Hvolsvöllur. Few people.

Amazing campsite with a beautiful winter garden as a shared space. Very cozy and warm inside with beautiful kitchen. Kitchen has lots of kitchen equipment including french press and moca pot for fresh morning coffee. They also have fridges you can use overnight and this was an only campsite with oven we had during our trip so you can even make pizza. There are warm showers, the best facilities we had for a good price 2500/ person, but all other facilities are free of charge. Highlight is walking up to the sound of farm animals and beautiful view of the iceberg.
So far this has been our favourite campsite during our Ring Road trip! There were only three other campervans during our stay. It was so quiet and peaceful. The indoor kitchen facilities are fantastic; it was clean, well equipped, and there were more than enough tables and chairs. We loved the outdoor picnic table area. The best part- we woke up in the morning to sheep surrounding our campervan! You pay for the campsite at the hotel reception.
It seems odd based on the remaining ratings, but our experience was bad. Our two rooms were not cleaned at all, a lot of dust below the beds, I found several hairs in my bed. Mattresses were very soft, making it difficult to sleep. In one of the bathrooms, there were still papers. When we ask for one more bath and face towel in each room, staff were really unkind and rude. Also, we were in the living room at 10pm and the staff got us out because they need to close the space, but they were really rude kicking us out. I sincerely do not believe this rate above 4 is fair and accurate. Unless we had really bad luck with both rooms.
We camped here. This was one of my least favourite campsites on our ring road trip. It really wasn't clear to me where we should park based on the signs. No one was working here when we arrived dinner time to ask any questions so we just did what other campers did. But I still don't think we were all parked in the right place. View was nice from camper. The common room / kitchen was really well equipped. You could cook a full meal in there and I think there was a full oven. They had dish washing as well. There is a washroom inside. Outside there is one of those portable bathroom / shower setups with a 2 of a bath / shower combo. I didn't love these on our trip because some places people lock the outside for the washroom and the shower at once. Can you use the washroom while someone is in the shower? I am not sure. Later in the evening they locked one of them so we had 1 washroom / shower for the full campground of like 12 - 15 campers. One of the campers had like a family of 8 in it so one washroom isn't really sufficient. That washroom still wasn't open the following morning. Also to note - I know it's more eco friendly but towels for drying your hands doesn't feel clean to me. Especially when I didn't see one person working here - who changes these towels? When we went to leave I went into the hotel and still no one on the desk in the morning. I hit the door bell, yelled out for someone. There couldn't have been any one staying in this hotel. I had to walk around the entire hotel yelling out for someone. I really didn't want to leave and not pay but I had to work to find someone to take my money. Finally I found a man cleaning a room and he thanked me for coming to find him and pay. I get the feeling people just don't always pay here. This was a real mixed experience for me. Fine for a night if you are in the area but I'd probably look elsewhere.
We parked our camper here. The location was beautiful. Showers were clean and they had a nice warm indoor kitchen with all facilities including a toaster, oven, utensils etc. one of the best campsites we stayed at!
This is one of the worst hotels I have stayed at in recent memory. The curtains had holes all over them. The room was old and dingy with the absolutely most horrible uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. It was caving in the middle and needed to have been replaced 10 years ago. They only had one pillow that was very thin. The shower was so small you couldn’t have your arms extended any amount. I spent $245 to stay here for one night so this level of uncomfortableness was not expected.
Great campground. Clean showers and washroom. Campsite also has a common kitchen area. Secluded off the main road and the gentlemen who checked us in was nice and prompt with showing us around. Beautiful views of the mountains in the background would definitely recommend.
We parked our campervan in their designated lot. The facilities and guest dining room are top notch! The hosts were very nice and they don't mind if you arrive late, just pay up in the morning and it's no worries. The water is very hot. And to top it off we saw the aurora here!
