So worth coming! Come just before sunset to still see the view but enjoy the lanterns when it gets dark. It's a big market with loads of shops, they all let you taste different things before you buy, so it makes it really fun! Best thing we did was going to the Jiufen teahouse, it was such a cultural experience, there is a tea tasting first and then you can go have a sit down after picking the tea you liked, you pay for 37g of which you only use a little and they pack the rest in a bag to go, so it's so worth the price! It's proper mystical and they teach you to use all the fancy tea equipment. We loved it!! We went Monday evening and it was busy, so weekend might not be the best plan. Also, it actually does look like from spirited away!

A good and nice old street to visit, filled with Real old markets, simple restaurants, and tea shops. They are narrow, shaded, and often get an air-conditioned breeze from the stores; inside the street, it's not as deadly hot as expected. However, it's very overcrowded, and you often get stuck while walking. Expect all-day-long traffic jam. So, allow for a longer time schedule to avoid rushing.

Jiufen Old Street is a charming mountainside village full of traditional tea houses, snack stalls, and beautiful lantern-lit lanes. The narrow alleys make the walk enjoyable, and the views of the ocean from the top are amazing. There are many interesting local shops selling souvenirs, desserts, and Taiwanese snacks. The place has a nostalgic feel, especially around the famous A-Mei Tea House area. It can get crowded, but the atmosphere and scenery make it completely worth the visit.

A hillside village, once called golden mountain city, which sees a lot of tourists. Narrow streets lined with all sorts of shops; something for everyone, you might say. Souvenirs, sweets, sausages, sour plum wine, squid jerky et. Al. The charm for me of this town were the well preserved, old tea houses. I managed to sample some alishan high mountain tea. Purchased some at a reasonable price. The street lanterns come to life at night and the viewing platforms allows you to absorb the atmosphere fully. A must visit even with the maddening crowds.

This place is pretty but it was PACKED. Definitely a tourist trap (prices are higher than other places). There are also a lot of stairs, so you need to be able to handle the climb. With that said, if you could be there when its not packed to the brim it maybe a fun experience. I enjoyed the meal I had there and the people in the shops are very friendly.

A place that really left a lot of impression on me, a trip to learn about history with a very creative and elaborate layout of the exhibition booths, the works still retain their daily light, That brings you back to a historical period where people conquered nature. This place is high in the wilderness, so the air is fresh, we went hundreds of steps to reach the top of the mountain, though we were tired, we did it. At the foot of the mountain is a bustling dining and shopping area with many guests from many countries in the world proving this is an attractive and famous place. Bad experience on VR booking system which is very inflexible. I am rating it 1 star because a) staff at counter stubbornly refused to let us pre-book the VR until a long time b) the booking system. You have to be onsite to book it and even though we were returning later that day, the person did not see sense. You cannot book by phone or pre-book. I think this is poor and should be entirely redone. I cannot explain how disappointed I am. Never coming back.

Great place to visit if you are making your way to Taipei from the south. You can touch a giant piece of gold and you can have gold panning and Benshan No.5 Tunnel Experience. Since the Japanese took over Taiwan once, there is a gold mine manager’s house which was completely reconstructed but reusing the materials and a delicious miner’s lunch box (a metal lunch box with what miners used to eat). Tickets are 80NT and I recommend you to come here at a partly sunny day, as you do not want too much heat because you will be walking, and not too cold because you will get very cold in buildings.

The spot is very easy to access, right by the roadside, so you don’t need to hike. Even in wet weather, it’s a quick and worthwhile stop for photos. The Golden Waterfall is definitely one of the more unique sights in the world! it's not every day you see a waterfall shimmering in golden-bronze color! They say the color comes from the mineral-rich soil in the area, which gives it that surreal, almost magical glow. The nearby parking lot is pretty less, but luckily there weren’t too many cars when I visited, so finding a spot wasn’t a problem that day.

I walked down from Jiufen to see the waterfall. It was an easy hike since it was all down slope and I managed to get a nice glimpse of homes where people live. The waterfall when I came (early september) didn’t have that much runoff and locals were telling me there wasn’t anything to see. But anyways I still went down and it was a cool sight to see the barren rocks. (Also for those cat lovers: there were many stray cats along the way to the golden waterfall from Jiufen so feel free to hike down!)

This museum comes to live with the night tour. Very well planned and explained tour by the guide, whose father worked in the gold mine and converted their house to become a museum with all the equipment and items, including gold ore collected over the years. The slightly longer than 2.5 hours night tour gives a good historical narration of how Jiufen came about and its gold mining boom that brought people to this mountain. Super impressed by the lively explanation of Jiufen’s history. Even pointed out the geographical landscape with reference to Google Map using a power laser pointer that works for pointing out mountains and spots afar off. We got a full demonstration of how gold is extracted from the gold ore in the museum itself. I booked my tour through my accommodation. U can try doing this as it seems like in this small town, the locals know each other very well.

Xianxian is really passionate about her job, throughout the 2.5 hours tour, she really shared so much information to us about the history of jiufen as a gold mining town. I would strongly recommend this - but ideally for folks who know Chinese since the terms can be very hard to explain in English.

Definitely recommend the night tour (just be prepared to walk for awhile). Tour guide spoke both English and Mandarin and did an excellent job of explaining the history of mining life in Jiufen and how it influenced the town and society today. The museum is small, but very educational. It's a family business worth supporting!

Nowadays we live in a society where we can instantly obtain enormous information from the internet. However, some of them are probably not accurate and precise. As such, trying to look for someone who is a local resident might be appropriate. She is the one I am looking for. In addition, she introduced us some essential points for the old town like many different sorts of gold minings and coal minings, how local folks exchanged merchandises by using golden bars during the early era in 1950s roughly, how local people lived and how local miners collected and extracted golds. I also heard that she is the sixth generation living in this old town. That's amazing as well. There are still too many things I am unable to write them here since her tour is not only fantastic but also she told us many things abundantly. If I were you, and if you do want to know another aspect of this old town, trust me, you definitely won't be regret to register her tour.

It was wayyyyyyyy better than I expected. Honestly I know Jiufen is a tourist place but there wasn’t much to do besides the old street. Plus what you can do the most is food there. But this one is way more interesting than just food. The guide is on point. She is funny and knowledgeable to provide enough information to us. Sadly the whole tour is in Mandarin so you have to understand Mandarin to know what she is saying. We had a fun time with seeing the old Jiufen houses, how it was built and what’s special about it. We also see a lot of night views and knowing the geolocation of Jiufen. Overall a fun 2.5 hours and we end up at a small and cozy family own’s restaurant (in a separate review) it was a different experience for sure. Remember to bring your luck to Jiufen so you don’t meet the rain. ;)

Behind the sea stands an abandoned, 13-storey building that was used to mine gold in the past. We stayed here for about 5-10min before going to the Golden waterfall.

This one hits so close to my heart. I didn’t even know this was part of the tour. I just knew we were going to the Jiufen area. So when I saw this place, my heart felt so full. Originally built in 1916, it holds so much history within its walls. There’s an old movie projector, probably a Simplex 35mm, though I’m not entirely sure. And displays of some of the films and stage plays once performed here. It’s such a touching, nostalgic spot. Truly interesting, and absolutely a must-see.

Love seeing historical building being used in the present! At the time we visited they had a play playing. Great spot to take a 15 minute break and watch traditional movie.

A free entry small old theater that continuously plays short documentaries. Visitors can sit and enjoy the projections in comfort, equipped with aircon and limited public restroom.

When I walked in Sunday at 5pm, I was delighted by a collection of films running. They were 5 minute oral history interviews, I only saw maybe the last 10, English subtitles. Delightful stories from the old and young. It seemed to be sponsored by local companies and the gold museum. I have no other information but I commend them for having the vision to collect oral histories.

Such a great place to get closer to this region’s history! I really enjoyed watching short documentaries about various people from Jiufen. I stayed for 40 minutes to watch them all.

Unique and stunning ocean rock formations on the clear blue ocean. It’s definitely worth the stop when you’re driving along the coast. For more beautiful photos, I advise that you walk down and go to the bigger rock on the north side to get closer to the ocean plus get a good view of the mountain side.

The museum exhibits are mostly 1 room displays scattered in 5-6 different buildings.The out door area is beautiful with various hiking routes nearby. The tickets are pretty cheap since it’s public / government sponsored. Best to go on a good sunny day so you can enjoy the outdoor areas more

An interesting site to visit. Park like grounds. However the site is in a state of disrepair. Renovations started in 2004 and it seems that weather and the elements have taken their toll. The little train was not functioning on the day I visited. There is a tunnel experience that you can take for an additional $150, but the ticket counter nearby wasn't open. Several pleasant workers standing around but with little guidance. Signage could have been a lot better. I think, but I'm not sure that I was supposed to get my ticket at the main entrance.

The place is right on top so quite a lot of steps to climb. Would recommend to get tickets in advanced if you are going to for experience for gold panning experience. As we have 8 people but they have only 6 tickets left so 2 of us just bought the ticket to the museum instead. If the tickets ran out, the next experience is quite long wait. The gold museum is nice too since there are quite educational. So if you are going in a big crowd, best to buy tickets in advanced.

I really enjoyed this little museum and atmosphere. On the day I visited was free for some reason lol I wish we had more time to look around more areas and see the mining site. They had a schedule for the experience. Before you start going in to the museum check this out first. If I did that we could’ve done.

We were severely disappointed to find that after paying for the tunnel experience, that it was closed off for renovation about 150 yards into it.. I wish they had told us that before we had purchased the tickets, put on the hardhat, and walked in. Our entire experience lasted only about 12-15 minutes. Had we known, we would not have bothered spending that money. Also, they have set times for their different experiences and by the time we got there around 1 PM, everything for the rest of the afternoon was already sold out. So we didn’t even get to do the little mining car experience because all the ones through 3:30 PM had been sold out by the time we arrived. We also found the signs to be incredibly confusing and every entrance had a separate fee so there was not one general park fee but rather we were nickeled and dimed for everything. I would say if you had a limited amount of time in Jiufen, you don’t have to feel bad about missing this one. The only reason I’m giving it three stars instead of two is because if you walk around the outside of the museum buildings and cross the suspension bridge over to the next little village, you can find yourself over by another series of temples that are really cool.

Took the train from taipei main station to ruifang station and then bus 856/ taxi to the trail cape and it took about 1.5-2hours. But it is totally worth it! the view is amazing with clear sky and coastal view. You can also see keelung islet from the viewing point. The trail is also easy with proper steps and boardwalk. Highly recommend!!

Cool round trip through tropical lush forest. Easily walkable. A bit more difficult at 36deg, but doable with a lot of water. Note - almost no shade. But the cafe at the middle in the military bunker was nice. Cash only!

Amazing trail! Its quite short but the views are spectacular. I did it around midday and naturally was very hot so would recommend to cover yourself or go at a less hot time of day.

It’s a great hike with AWESOME views except that we did ours at around 10 am so if I were to do this again, I’d make sure to schedule in the afternoon or come in a season when the temperature drops. Bring lots of water. Other than that, a camera to take tons of pictures 😄

Ruins or remains of the ShuinanDong Smelter, also called the Remains of the 13 Levels. This was a gold and copper smelter or refinery built in 1933 by the Japanese, near ShuiNan Cave. After the Japanese era, it was taken over by Taiwan, until the copper and gold were exhausted in 1973, and the plant was shut down. You can't really get to the ruins other than peering through the fence. There's one one building you can see from the road, and the road is above 2 others. None are worth making the trek up the hill for. There's a sign up from 19 years ago saying not to go in and one from 3 years ago saying there's a fine of 9000元. There's a cafe down another steep hill that has a view of the front of one building, but they insist on a minimum spend of 150 and only sell hot drinks and hot food (for 350+) which isn't what you need in the afternoon of an incredibly hot day. I'd suggest not bothering and just looking up from below.

Old gold refinery built in early 1900's by the Japanese, now abandoned. Its runoff is full of brownish iron minerals which flow north to the ocean creating golden waterfall and ying yang sea.

The view on most pictures is from below, when you follow the path google maps shows you, you find only the view from the top (which is still pretty) And there seems to be some art pieces like a glowing roman "i", looked cool

A bit underwhelming but a landmark near the famous Yin Yang sea nonetheless.

My wife and I took this tour on a Monday morning a few hours before our flight home and had a wonderful time. Our tour guide was very animated and obviously loved his job! Great tour through history all the way to current time. Definitely recommend this tour for any whiskey aficionados or anyone with just a taste for Jameson.

I paid about $26 for the Jameson Distillery tour and it was worth every penny. They start with a really cool 3D projector story about the history and how Jameson is made, then you move into a tasting room where you try four different Jamesons and learn how to properly smell and taste whiskey. It truly feels like a world-class experience. The premium ones were noticeably smoother (whiskey by itself definitely grows hair on your chest 😂), but it was fun, informative, and delicious. After the tasting, you get a drink included — they already have a bar set up with several cocktail options, and if you want another drink afterward you can buy more. The tour guide was incredible — funny, knowledgeable, and made it feel like he actually believed every part of the history. It was so good I found myself thinking, “Do y’all hire? I could work here too.” The staff overall was extremely friendly and helpful. They’ll even hold your bags if you’re coming straight from the airport like I was. There’s merchandise at the end if you want to shop, and the whole experience is just a lot of fun from start to finish. I would 100% come back and I’d tell anyone visiting Dublin to add this to their trip.

This is one of the best distillery tour I’ve ever done! I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Dublin. Our tour guide was really informative and had a great demote of knowledge about the history of Jameson’s. I’m not usually a Whiskey drinker but after trying a Jamesons, Ginger Ale and Lime in the bar I am converted.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Jamison Distillery. I went with my husband and my daughter. It was very informative and quite interesting. There were several experiences during the tour. We tasted whiskeys that we hadn't tried before. Our new favorite one is Black Barrel. We've bought a bottle now that we're back home and have shared it with a neighbor. He is now a fan! I recommend going on this tour. It's fun, educational, and it even has a cute little shop inside.

I came for an elephant 🐘, you offer me a capybara 🤨 Let me explain why 3 stars. I ask for the admin to update the name of the place ! Indeed, I went there 2 weeks ago, expecting to see an elephant. It happens that last year, the front rocks collapsed. As a consequence, there is no elephant anymore, but they call it now a capybara. No real path to reach the top. Not a problem for me since I am quite adventurous. But definitely not suited for children. The scenery is wonderful, but wouldn’t worth to go all that way only for the view though. The small port downhill is very charming. The place is Not easily accessible by public transportation.

Its pretty slippery, not recommend for old, child to visit here. If you go, just be careful because windy to strong.

The place can be reached in 10~15 minutes on foot from the harbor. It's free. It's quite nice for the rocky formations and scenery. But you shouldn't expect too much, because you can't actually see the entire rock formation, as a guard (and rope) prevents you from getting too close. So actually, you never see it like in the official photos (or bring a long selfie pole !). Also, on weekends, it can get a bit crowded, so don't expect solitary ocean gazing, but it's nice to get away from the crowd and cliff, in order to walk along the rocky beach.

The trunk in the rock formation has been broken for a while now. You will not see any likeness of an elephant. The site has been “reinvented” as reassembling a capybara but the likeness is not obvious. It can be a fun walk (lots of rock clambering, but slippery on a rainy day) and a good view of the coast, but do not expect any elephant.

Awesome place the Giant rock that looks like an elephant. And the atmosphere there is cool. Please be careful during winter and rainy season the soil becomes very slippery. I have seen people falling during climbing. Wearing good shoes will be protective measure but it’s not confirmed that you will not slip.

There is not much shade from the trees, and the trail is mainly stairs, so you need to be careful when visiting in midsummer. Taiwan's rare open scenery is very precious!

Undeterred by the swirling mist and persistent rain that shrouded Teapot Mountain, we chose to ascend! This climb wasn't about conquering a summit for its vista; it was about immersing ourselves fully in the present moment, embracing the elements. Visibility shrank, transforming the familiar trail into a ghostly passage. Hiking up to the peak, we sought refuge within the stone heart of the Teapot itself, a surprisingly serene chamber where we rewarded ourselves with a quiet meditation, our breath echoing softly against the damp rocks.

Such a magnificent hike. It was over in less than 2 hours, but a great challenge and killer views out over the surrounding sea and mountains. Getting here: turn on google maps and let it guide you while you walk from Jiufen to the Teapot Mountain trailhead. If i had my time again, that’s what i’d do. It’s only 35 minutes … and i waited almost double that time for a local bus (which was supposed to run every 17 minutes). i tried to follow the bus recommendations and they just didn’t seem to work. Google told me bus 965 goes there, but the 965 bus driver told me he didn’t go there?? So i ordered an Uber and got shaken down by the taxi driver, for an 11 minutes ride. Just another 20 minutes and i could have got there on foot! So walk .. you’re wanting to hike? So start it off with a walk to the trailhead.

I did all 3 trails (Teapot mountain, Banpingshan then Canguangliao). From the teapot mountain trailhead it took me 3h30 to do all 3 trails and I ended in Jinguashi village. Was challenging at times (squeezing through boulders, climbing up ropes, a lot of scrambling and also walking through dense overgrown parts). But very enjoyable if you’re open to adventure. Bear in mind a LOT of insects along the way so bring repellent.

This is a beautiful and stunning hike. However be aware that after the teapot spout the trail becomes nearly impassable in wet weather and you can’t make the rest of the summit. There are parts where you have to scramble which is fine but sometimes they use ropes and others small metal chains. The metal chains are useless in wet weather as they become extremely slippery and you cannot get a grip. This becomes dangerous especially near the summit where you have a straight wall and only metal chains for the last 10 feet. It became impossible (even as an experienced hiker) and I had to turn around rather than complete the loop. Photos attached.
