If you or your children want to try surfing then absolutely check these folks out. Couldn't have asked for more. From booking to waving goodbye the folks were excellent. Pleasant to deal with, it was obvious through the humour (we'll call it humour boys!) that they have sensible heads on their shoulders where everyone's safety and engagement are concerned. Sent an email checking for availability on the Sunday and booked a 2 hour absolute beginner session for three grown children on the Tuesday. Arrived and they got kitted out with no fuss, a short walk to the beach for the dry land instruction and then quickly to the majority of the time in the sea practising with guidance. It was good to see that where some people struggled they received encouragement and advice for them to make the most out of it.
We had a brilliant time. We are all beginners (one adult and three kids.. 15, 13 and 10yrs) and we all thoroughly enjoyed. The instructors are super helpful and friendly. They teach and check in with everyone regularly in the water and their enthusiasm is excellent. Many thanks to Stu and Tommy at the surf school.
Another fantastic couple of days surfing again this year. Our children really enjoyed their lessons again this year and I can really see the progress they have made from last year. Friendly, kind and helpful instruction from all their instructors. We look forward to returning again next year.
My sister and I had a great few days surfing with north devon surf school! Everyone was lovely and shoutout to Tommy and Dave who were particularly friendly and encouraging. Hopefully will be back for more fun and headstands
We’ve just finished 2x 2hour lessons with Stu. We had the best weekend, Stu was so supportive and we felt we were in very safe hands. Unbelievable value for money! Thanks Stu & everyone at North Devon Surf School - hopefully we’ll be back!!
We had a fantastic two days, one morning of lessons and the second day hiring wetsuits and boards because we loved it so much! The team at North Devon Surf School are really friendly and knowledgeable. I can’t recommend this enough as something you have to do if visiting North Devon!
2 adults and a teenager, never surfed before. Quite nervous, but felt very welcoming by staff, got kitted out, everything was explained and staff were ontop of everything! We got out on the water, instructors were very supportive, continuously going around between everyone with things to try and improve. Top marks guys, keep up the happy friendly vibe.
Our kids have been coming here for 7+ years. Honestly the best surf school in the area, friendly staff, top instructors (of all ages) and generally a top vibe. If you have kids and want them to feel safe and looked after, and more importantly to gain a new skill this is the place!

I’ve been to the area many times before but never played the course. Managed to get a round in over summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Some tough holes made much harder if the wind is blowing. Lovely links course in excellent condition.
Great place to play as a visitor , really friendly welcome, good online booking and relatively quick pace of play. Very iconic course, in good condition and lots of "raw" original features.
Played Royal North Devon as part of the NCG Devon tour. My expectations were tempered by the photos and reviews I had seen beforehand. The course is raw with little definition on some holes. So much so, that there are large signs with hole numbers visible from some tees to give you an idea as to where to hit. The course is bisected by an access road which can slow play down whilst waiting for cars and pedestrians. Once you get into the round it is great fun. A bit quirky with huge sleepers in the front of bunkers (that you get relief from), but it still retains its place in the UK & Ireland Top 100.
Only walked across it to get to beach, but it looks great. Beautiful location with ponies wandering around. £7 to park car here for the beach.
Flat course, lots of meadowland with sheep. The first 2 wholes look a bit disappointing because it seems to be just meadow land not connected to the spectacular shore. Bur, then the shore location comes into play. Enjoyed the course a lot! You won't lose many balls, roughs are very forgiven.
Royal North Devon provides a spectacular experience in every way. the course is beautiful, challenging, historic , quirky and lots of fun to play. It also offers unmatched hospitality for such a historic place. we had the privilege of distinguished men as our caddies: Dave Miller and Simon Hopkins who added to the grandeur of the experience with a bit of a tour after golf and before gin and tonics. cannot recommend this course enough!
At points wide open. The rushes and bushes are what will swallow your ball. The thing that makes this course tricky will always be fighting the wind and judging yardage. Greens true and well paced. Starter was helpful. Clubhouse like a museum of history
Awesome golf course in an unreal setting and very well maintained, highly recommend playing here if you get the chance. Demanding but fair course that makes you think. If you’re getting a caddie ask for Dave, great guy who knows his stuff

Great beach shop in just the right spot for all your beach wants and needs along with souvenirs galore, huge range of everything you will need, want and more for your holiday by the sea 🌞 Lovely Family run business with smiles a plenty whilst being very helpful with that perfect gift or beach essential. See you next time 😇🌞🌊
Brillant place true to the name it is what i expected. Looking forward to coming back next time i m in Westwood ho I brought a lovely board at a reasonable price . Staff were amazing saved the board for me until i could get it i also asked for pics before purchase and they was very helpful and police i wish i could give you guys more stars you guys are amazing hoping to pick up more boards when i am next down :)
Awesome little shop with loads of beach essentials crammed in, as well as loads of lovely little gifts and toys etc. So far this trip (and believe me, we've been coming here for YEARS), we've popped into this little 'Aladdin's Cave of treats' every day... sometimes 2 or 3 times... and the lovely couple that run it are always SO nice. Our 5 year old (Elliot) now feels the need to pop in and say hi whenever we're passing, and thank them again for being so kind to him (he's a VERY fussy shopper!). He was even drumming up trade for them in the cafe next door this morning, by telling some random strangers about how great the gift shop next door is!! So if you do pop in... tell them Elliot sent you!!
Typical seaside tourist shop, great selection of items, good prices, friendly staff were identifying songs on the radio "If I was, Ultravox"
Great shop full of everything you need as gifts for taking home, and also things to use on the beach or entertain yourselves at your stay,
This shop is fantastic for the kids. We spent quite a bit of money in here, on beach stuff; shoes, boats, covers, tents, buckets, spades etc. The guy who runs the shop it is really friendly and chatty. We saw him occasionally around the harbour after the shop had closed he always spoke and said hi. There was one occasion where my daughter had dropped her lolly on the ground - he was just pottering around outside getting some fresh air and he saw her crying. He heard her say that she'd dropped her lolly and he immediately came across and said come with me and I'll get her another one. Now I know this isn't a lot of money, probably 30p, but it was the gesture and the attention. He shouted to a guy in the shop and got her another lollipop. Like I say, it was the gesture that stood out and showed the great service and brilliant customer care. They are very reasonably priced and only a stones throw away from the beach. Excellent shop. Excellent service!
We have been to Westward ho! For many years now, and this shop has probably everything you need for your beach trip, and a lot more! We seem to be collecting the solar nodding toys that are always a delight to look at in the window. Superb staff, and VERY helpful. See you again in 2 weeks!
Cathy and Clive who own the shop are two very friendly and helpful people. The shop is crammed with stuff to suit everyones tastes and needs. Always worth a visit when in Westward Ho!. Keep up the good work both.

Really good golf carts for young and old. Upgraded for this season (2025) the carts are brand new and fairly quick. Descent kidney shaped circuit. Well worth £10. You get 7 minutes of action and whilst it doesn't sound long, driving at speed and almost constant cornering really pulls on the arm muscles. Well worth a go..
Great fun. My son loved his first try on go karts. He did want it to go faster though. The double karts are very slow, he's 5 and wanted it faster. Could do with a bit of paint or upgrading. The staff were fantastic and very helpful and friendly, top blokes who helped make it fun. Good for a quick race and a bit of race fun.
Nice break from all that walking on the beach front and perfect location with a pay and park car park on the doorstep. Small track but everyone who rode loved it!!
I love this place. I haven't been to the crazy golf part of this place yet, however, I have been to the GO Karts twice already and there are really fun, and I have a bad gag reflex and I thought it'd make it worse with the helmet but it's great. Near seafront, Go karts can go so fast and it's so fast.
Plenty of time on the track. Good speed and not too much of anyone isn't super confident but great for fun and a bit of competitiveness
Wish I had read the reviews first and not the out of date website! Website states children can ride with an adult, turned up this morning to be told they no longer have the double karts and kids have to be a min height. The excuse was they got the new karts "only in March" (so, ready for the new season I presume?) and that they "hadn't had time to update their website yet" when I challenged what was stated on their website. Several reviews pointing this disappointment out now - perhaps time to update your website info!
On the website of this business it says there are double go karts so adults and kids can go together. When we arrived we were told they no longer have double karts and there is a height restriction for kids. One of our party of four did not meet the height requirement. The kids had been very excited and it was disappointing to find we had made a special trip for nothing. What's the point of having a website if you are giving customers incorrect and incomplete information?
All the family had a great time playing crazy golf with great sea views.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Had my first-ever surf lesson today with Ho! Surf and it was an amazing experience! The staff is super friendly and competent, making you feel welcome from the very beginning. Special thanks to Maddy for the great lesson—she was patient, clear, and super encouraging. Mega fun, great vibes, and definitely the perfect place to start surfing. Highly recommended!
Recently purchased a brand new surfboard from Kitemare. All the staff are awesome. Pete, Fran, Rob and Guy (among others) were always happy to help, answering my stupid questions and giving me all the advice I needed.. ever! They all helped to talk me through all the aspects of the board, composition, size, shape, style and explained brilliantly the pros and cons of everything. I didn't feel rushed or pushed at all and they allowed me all the time I needed to make a decision as it was a fairly big purchase to me. Incredibly happy with my new Torq Fish and the bundle they put together for me was incredibly competitively priced and the experience of shopping with this guy's was nothing short of awesome. I love the shop they've got a great selection of boards, wetsuits, clothing, changing robes, surf kites, accessories and equipment hire all at great prices. Highly recommend as I already do to all my friends. Couldn't rate them any higher.
Excellent family run surf shop. Just recently bought a new board here and the owner was super friendly & helpful, even chucked some freebies in! I’ll definitely keep supporting this local business for any future equipment! Cheers guys! 🤙🏼
Surf shop with lots of varied stock located at the beach front. Great staff who are happy to help and give sound advice. Popped in just to browse but ended up buying a dry robe and sola robe. Really pleased with the prices as they were competitive. The staff didn't have a till that printed receipts but happily wrote us one on request. Top marks for the guys who work here, we will definitely visit again if we are in the area.
Hired surfboards from this lovely shop! Staff were brilliant, light-hearted, funny and extremely helpful! We loved surfing on the Westward Ho! Beach! Thank you!!
Lovely staff and amazing products. I purchased a wetsuit from here a few months back. The owner was so helpful and I'm so happy with my wetsuit. The prices are great and I will definitely be going back. It is decorated very nicely too!
Why you should avoid kitemare shop. Warning long post. I had the worst possible experience with them. I sent 3 kites to Peter to be repaired. They had a couple of short tears and slow air leakage that was not really preventing them to be used, just annoying. I wanted to take them with me on vacation, so off they went to be repaired. Peter checked them and suggested that trying to fix them would be as or even more expensive than replace all the bladders on all of them. I received them back shortly before my holiday so I decided to take them there "brand new". The 9meters was leaking worse than before and not usable for more than 20 minutes. One of the struts on the 13 bursted on the first session. So I removed the bladder and sent it to be patched locally. A second bladder bursted the following session. This time I was less lucky, because the valve isolating the struts was open and the entire kite deflated. I really risked my life on this occasion. When I finally managed to the shore, I started removing random bladders from the kites. This is when the horror really started. I removed a total of 5 bladders. ALL OF THEM have stretched marks on the top. Exactly where the previous two failed. God knows how many others have the same problem. I was furious, I sent Peter emails to be refunded, sent him the pictures of the damaged bladders, but he would not help without personally inspecting the kites. Reluctantly I agreed to send them over. I signed all the bladders with my initials at the bottom end, without removing them, and sent the kites back. He kept them for two weeks, inspected them and proceeded, without my permission, to refit the same bladders in them. EXACTLY! He refitted all the damaged bladders but one, back in my kites! Arguing that they where perfectly fine and safe, knowing I had to be rescued to make to the shore. He started to make excuses insinuating some one else refitted the bladders (because they were signed) or I left the kites "flapping in the wind", like that's something anyone does this days. Obviously none of this is true and he's just trying to blame anything else rather than a very poor fitting on his part. I genuinely think that anyone can make mistakes. There is no shame in that, and there will be people that had a nice experience with this company. But I'm also convinced that the real value of a business is not on how many things he does right, but in how puts right things that have gone wrong. He is convinced he did a good job refitting the damaged bladders and pressure testing them. I can't take the risk again with his work, and I can't believe he refused to acknowledge that 2 bladders blown and 5 damaged, all of which within two sessions after he laid his hands on my kites, are clearly because of how he did the job. I did not have any refund, or simply new bladders, only my kites back with the same damaged bladders. HAVE A THINK IF YOU WANT TO RISK THE SAME!
Proper surf shop with great service and genuine attentive approach. Great guys - would always use

Really enjoyable lesson - we ended up mastering kite flying (great bits of kit!) and having a go in the kite buggies (feel like you're going super fast!) Very professional beforehand - very easy to get booked on. Communication from Sukie before the lesson was spot on and kept us all up to date. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend you try this (said as an unfit, overweight office worker!) as I enjoyed myself, alongside the fitter members of our group.
Amazing team! They’re all incredibly friendly and know a lot about the sport. Whenever I was in the water I always felt safe! Upon completing my course i have definitely taken in a lot. I feel more than confident enough to go out by myself which means they’re excellent teachers! I recently purchased some high quality gear from them so I’m looking forward to seeing them on the water! Would highly recommend giving it a go!
We highly recommend 514elemental to learn as beginners. Robin has been an amazing coach throughout the week. Very professional and flexible with the times of lessons and wind. He was fully dedicated to us as a couple to learn the basics and to get is on the board within 4 lessons. All the kits are very well maintained and of high quality. As a coach, Robin is really friendly, knowledgeable and patient. He made us feel safe and confident to go out on your own. 514elemental is not only a kite surfing school, they are trustworthy kite surfing contacts with loads of good tips and recommendations.
Suki is a great teacher. Very patient and clear in communicating her instruction. As a total novice I was concerned about the scope for calamity, but with her emphasis on safety you quickly realise you've just got to fly a kite.......simple ! I'll be returning for some more lessons next year. Might even get on a board !!
Kite surfing lesson was fun and flexible but with good progression and challenges to go with it. We quickly built a rapport and Jasmine encouraged me to try new things while consolidating my existing skills. Also a great place to try kite surfing in the sea for the first time! Basically an epic company, fantastic teachers and a great place to start (or continue) your kite surfing journey. Thanks 514!
I had a billiant experience! Really fun, friendly instructors happy to accommodate and taylor lessons to fit where I was at. It wasn't windy when I booked so they moved things around to fit me in later that same week once the wind had picked up. I couldn't recommend learning with 514 Elemental enough.
Sukie is an excellent instructor, she managed to get me to learn new tricks and progress even further during our freestyle session. Thank-you- 5 stars and more.
Suki and the team are amazing! From start of the day to the end we felt super safe, these guys really know their stuff! Great coaching, really fun, highly recommend! Thanks so much!!

Lovely spot for a coffee or beer and a spectacular view of the sea and Lundy Island. The staff are always friendly and the venue is always clean and tidy. The QR code for table service is brilliant so you don't lose your seat.
A fantastic place day and night. Want to chill next to the sea and watch the beautiful sands and views, then pop down during the day and enjoy a drink 🍻 Want to watch the sunset with a drink and a bite? Wow! This is the place to go. The views are incredible alongside amazing service and selections of drinks and food. The owner is fantastic too if you get the chance to meet him. Recommended!
Popped in for a quick drink ended up having a few to many the atmosphere so chilled with stunning sunset and dj outside buzzy buzzy fantastic pub in a great location
Nice place. Plenty of seating options both inside and out qith a great view. Didn't eat this time but the food looked good
Didn't have food so can't comment on taste but it looks good from what I seen . Service was spot on definitely a place to relax and watch the sea 🌊 👌
Fantastic staff, very happy to deal with a walker, straight off the coast path. Tea and cake that hit the spot! Lovely views of the bay, beach and surf. Pure Magic! P.s. a sign saying not to queue at the bar but spread along the bar, fills my heart with joy. Nice one, love it!
Stopped here for a quick pint after a day on the beach. Lovely bar with friendly staff and the most amazing view of the sea. Loads of outdoor seating. Highly recommend.
A beautiful venue tarnished by rude, unhelpful staff. We attended the night of the women's euro finals, on arrival we ventured into the bar, we placed the order with the bald guy on the bar, he stood for 10-15 seconds with his head in his hands looking like he was having some sort of bizarre breakdown, he then poured our drinks. When we went outside we realised the table was dirty, we understood it was very busy due to the football so we went inside and asked him for some spray and kitchen roll for the table, he then very bizarrely put his head in his hands and told us he didn't have any it's just keeps going missing. I get it, they were busy, he was probably stressed, but don't work in a bar if you can't hack the atmosphere. We were later told this weird encounter was because he didn't like the football. Strange behaviour all round.

Had a really good time with Surf & Swim today, Andy worked a minor miracle in getting all of us up on our boards in no time at all! Both Claire & Andy make sure you are safe & informed throughout the whole experience, they are both very professional in their approach leaving you feeling safe in their hands at all times. Can not recommend these guys enough, I wouldn’t trust anyone with my family but these guys are amazing. To Andy & Claire thank you so much for a great time, from me & the family can’t wait to do it again 🏄🏻‍♂️😎
I think we picked the right people to teach us how to surf, Claire & Andy are the best surf teachers we could ask for! Every time we surf with them I get better and better, Andy gave me a certificate to prove it! That is going on my bedroom wall when I get back home and I can look at it & remember these good times along with the great action photos Claire took of us in the water on our boards 🏄🏻‍♂️🌊. Thank you Andy & Claire & Amelia you made my holiday so much fun🌊🏄🏻‍♂️🎓😎
Fantastic fun! Andy and Claire were just lovely and the whole experience was enjoyable from start to finish. The equipment used was great quality and meant we were never cold or uncomfortable. A perfect introduction to surfing. Would definitely book again (as we already have done!) and would recommend to all.
The Surf and Swim school was absolutely amazing. I loved every second and the staff were very professional and encouraging. They kept me safe in the water even though I’m not the most confident swimmer or surfer. They helped me enjoy being out in the water and are helpful in every possible way. I love the card they have me after my lesson telling you all the techniques you’ve covered and what level you’re working towards. I really hope you enjoy your lesson as much as I enjoyed mine. :-)

Lovely shop with lots of lovely things, visited a few times during our time away in Westward Ho! Was my 'go to' place when trying some of the local beers and ciders (which I would then happily drink watching the sea!) Kids purchased some fudge and tablet that they very much enjoyed, although was always worried they might touch lots of things in store..! Service was good and always double bagged by valuable drinks so they survived the short walk back to the apartment.
A wonderful shop, full of lovely gifts. The open hands were a wonderful addition to the home, I thought you would like to see what it looked like filled with flowers and aqua beads.
Always visit this great gift shop when im in Westward ho. Always worth taking a good look to see the great range of stock. Always seem to come away with something.
Fantastic shop with amazing choice of beautiful things. Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a nice gift or just some decorative item.
This is a lovely gift shop, with fabulous items - including the locally produced Atlantic Spirit gin (The Lundy is a new favourite in my cabinet)! There is a lovely selection of beautiful jewellery as well. The staff were very helpful with advice when choosing items. Well worth a visit. The pic is a ring purchased from the shop!!
Just nipped into the shop whilst on holiday in westward ho! and treated very disrespectfully by the shop assistant. Was informed not to look at primarily a picture book without opening too much. It’s a bit difficult to consider buying a book without looking through it first !! Was made to feel as though my and my wife were not ‘good’ enough to purchase items. Ironically a sale was missed as we had already ear marked a few of the items that we could afford to buy!! But I guess the shop assistant will hopefully live and learn from this experience. My wife has felt upset by the experience but we won’t let in ruin our holiday.
Beautiful things for sale here was really impressed until I heard a lady speak very rudely to a customer who’s little boy had dropped something in the shop. The shop sales some children’s things so obviously kids will touch. So completely changed my view on the shop which is disappointing. I think a few more customer skills are needed for the staff that work here.
Fantastic service buying from France using the website. Nothing was too much trouble. Gifts personalised and packed beautifully made shopping from overseas almost as good as being able to come into the shop myself! Top marks for all your hard work and great gifts. You rock!
