Church of San Tirso can be visited inside free of charge. It has an impressive tower. Inside it is pretty modest. In the church there is an exhibition of architectural models of other monuments located in Sahagun. Worth visiting !
Beautiful mad and blessing for the pilgrims. Even though I'm not religious I really enjoyed this.
It’s a shame to block nearly all mayor churches with this exhibition. What about the pilgrims, who made this place famous over the centuries?
All that's left of a great monastic establishment
Just beautiful and full of history

For just €3, you can receive the Camino de Santiago midpoint certificate and visit the church.
The Sanctuario is an almost reconstructed building on the Peregrina hill. It contains an exhibition as well as they deliver a certificate of completion of the halfway of Camino. But there are some problems here. First, it was not decided that they reconstruct a church, a monastery or create a modern space for a contemporary exhibition. Second, it said that it is a “documentary centre of Camino de Santiago” but the library is almost empty! Third, the exhibition was ready only halfway there. Disappointment so far.
Renovated interiors preserve many of the tessellation plaster patterns. Pellegrinos can present their credentials to receive an official half-way certificate.
Pick up your Halfway Compostela from this church that is a 14th Century Mosque. Islamic designs still on the walls.
A beautiful restored church with a very friendly staff. And yes, this is where you get your certificate of completion for half of the Camino Santiago.
Several copies of old books in Santuario de la Virgen Peregrina. Interesting space, my recommendation.
Go there and get a stamp but it’s not worth three euro to tour
Impressive-looking church on top of a hill. Please note that this is not the place to get the peregrino's halfway credencial (as we discovered when we went there based on previous reviews) -- you get that from the tourism office which is also the municipal albergue.

Fantastic mudéjar example
(Translated by Google) The magnificent Romanesque Mudejar church of San Lorenzo is located in the center of the town, in what was the La Morería neighborhood, and is one of the most attractive and complete churches of Mudejar art. It has been declared a National Monument since 1931, and is an integral part of several Jacobean routes on the Camino de Santiago. It dates from the beginning of the 13th century. Large in size, its structure is similar to San Tirso but its construction material is entirely brick. It is one of the best examples of a hybrid Mudejar church, with Romanesque, Gothic and Muslim elements. The chancel has three apses with beautiful horseshoe and alfiz arches, with corner brick friezes. It has a basilica plan, with three naves separated by pointed arches; The chancel is made up of three chapels with stepped apses. Above the presbytery rises the square tower, which has four sections decreasing in height and we were told that it is also an excellent dovecote. It was one of the main focuses of the reform of the Benedictine monasteries when the Cluny rule was introduced in the Iberian Peninsula. The decline of the monastery began in the 15th century, coinciding with the founding of the monastery of San Benito de Valladolid and the reform implemented therein. The disappearance of the monastery was also the result of the continuous struggle with the town of Sahagún for power over the population, which caused the monastery to burn down several times due to revolts, and the confiscation in the 19th century. (Translated by Google) Ruins of the Monastery of San Benito (Sahagun)...Between legend and reality. The Monastery of San Benito de Sahagún was one of the first Benedictine monasteries in Spain, and for centuries it enjoyed immense power, its possessions extending to the distant region of Lebanon. It is part of the legend (I suppose), that the inhabitants of Sahagún (who at different times in their history rebelled against the power of the monastery), in order to avoid the Lenten penance that the Monastery imposed... and that prevented them from eating meat during Lent, they threw the pigs into the river, and then caught them, arguing that they ate fish. Focusing on what we can see of the monastery...it preserves the tower, the arch and the Chapel of San Mencio. And beyond the Monastery, next to it is the Convent of the Benedictines, whose chapel houses the Sepulcher of Alfonso VI, the ruins of the Monastery of San Facundo and San Primitivo, and the wonderful Church of San Tirso.

We loved our stay here. We were warmly welcomed. Felt a real sense of peace.
It was nice staying here but... We arrived with other pilgrims 30 min before 12:30 opening in the rain. They would not allow us to step inside to stay dry In fact they stood dry under the door way and talked to us for 30 min. When we did finally come in they sat is in a big room and made us wait. Lots of room. Why not allow pilgrims to come in out of the rain and wait there. Check-in was the worst yet, collecting passports with the promise to return them later that afternoon because they would not be done with them right away. Anyways it was a nice place to stay but they need to get their act together and streamline the system.
Wonderful algergue, greatfull people, pilgrims and hospitaliers, exciting celebración... but...., bear on mind, if you book a room, you will not have sheets nor towels. Cards are not accepted, these are the rules of the house.
We arrived with reservations after a long wet walk. We were not greeted well, a lot of yelling, facial expression of disgust, changing prices, and pounding on the table. The room was filthy only to reveal an even more disgusting bathroom. We took the Pilgrim meal as we were told the money goes to the orphanage in Peru and the meal was the worst of all meals. No effort in preparation of the meal. Would have happily donated more to the cause but the women in the kitchen were miserable. Certainly not the experience I had hoped for. When I asked if one of the women would mind making a reservation for me she was so angry and demanded I pay her. For a more pleasant experience book elsewhere.
Beautiful Albergue. Very clean. The volunteers are kind. The atmosphere is very peaceful.
Recommended to visit.
Excellent . Lovely friendly welcoming people .

(Translated by Google) Parish of San Juan de Regla. The church is modernist in style, all made of concrete. Inside we find a round, open-plan, very spacious nave with wooden planks in a vertical position throughout its perimeter, a Christ on the Cross and below the High Altar. From the outside we see its circular shape with pieces of steel and concrete and a Cross as tall as it is wide. It is next to a large park. (Original) Parroquia de De San Juan de Regla. Desde el exterior vemos su forma circular con piezas de acero y hormigón y una Cruz tan alta como ancha. Está pegada a un gran parque.

(Translated by Google) They went too big. Of course God deserves a Cathedral! But above all it deserves good hearts. It's half empty. They miscalculated and would like a fortune. I'm not going to be like Judas. It is that Faith and Religiosity are in decline. It will be difficult for you to catch covid. And you will be comfortable although the benches of the national temples are just enough to be on. On the 24th Patron's Day at 12:30 they celebrate a very beautiful regional mass.
(Translated by Google) Modernist Catholic Church, where I went because I needed a document from 100 years ago, its parish priest having attended to me, promptly and diligently, and I was very grateful. The truth is that its coldness and darkness are somewhat strange, being a very sunny day. It lacks light and being isolated, its lack of windows and skylights in its vault is strange, so I think that the architect either had his reasons or made a serious mistake in his design. Higher heating costs and damage to the well-being of its parishioners, which I note... Pedro Rabanal Martínez. Google local guide & Youtuber. Google local guide & Youtuber.
