Very close to home. Our regular pastime is in here.
Closed for restauration. De touristoffice die not tell us 😡
It's closed although they are doing some restoration work. The Council & Xunta de Galicia have up until now totally neglected an historic park of regional significance. There's been no maintenance and no investment, a false sense of economy as this should be a major tourist attraction for passing tourists & pilgrims. I visited here in 1998 in better times, the founders will be turning in their graves.
Nice spot to make a pit stop along the A6
Regrettably closed for maintenance. Poor park looked in a very distressed state.
Strange and weirdly dream like place. Worth a visit
Parc is closed till further notice
Must visit if you pass by.

Beautiful historical building. Mystical experience
(Translated by Google) The monastery of San Francisco was founded in 1219, but Fernán Pérez de Andrade o Bo rebuilt it in 1387 and established an important center for theological and humanistic studies. The only thing that remains of it is the ogival church of the old monastery. The church has a nave with a wooden roof and three polygonal apses. The central one has a nice fan-shaped vault. The arms of the cross extend into two later built chapels. It has a main door with pointed archivolts, four pairs of columns and the depiction of the Adoration of the Magi on the tympanum. On the sides of the door appear some guild signs of those who probably collaborated in the erection of the temple. In the side door, through which you enter the temple, the figures of the Annunciation and the angel Gabriel appear in Franciscan clothing. The tombs are perhaps the most interesting architectural element of this temple. First of all, at the back of the church, is the monumental sartego of Andrade the Good, perched on the two symbolic animals of the Andrades, the wild pig and mailo bear, carved with a certain Celtic analogy. Hunting scenes appear on the sides, similar to the bas-reliefs on the wall of the nave. The recumbent statue tries to faithfully represent Fernán Pérez, who is accompanied or escorted by an angel, next to the head, a priest praying in the van and three dogs at the feet. An inscription in Galician surrounds the box on the edge: "Here lies Fernán Pérez Dandrade Cavaleiro who built this monastery in the year of the birth of our Lord Ihesucristo, thirteen hundred and eighty-seven years old." We can see another sixteen sartegos distributed throughout the nave and chapels of the temple, belonging to nobles and relatives of the houses of Andrade, Pardo de Cela, Figueroa, Taboada, Pérez Parragués, Reimóndez,...
(Translated by Google) Well, the truth is, a total disappointment in this place, I start by saying that it is a beautiful place and inside it should be too, but... We were a group that had been doing the Camino de Santiago Ingles, and as such we wanted to enter the church and seal the credential (something we had been doing in all the previous possible churches). Conclusion, the person who attended us informed us that to enter we had to pay 2 euros, and when we went to pay, he told us that only in cash, the first thing we did not understand, we told him that we had a card and he said that we could not enter, and since we could not enter, we told him to then stamp our credentials, and he told us no, that to stamp it we had to pay the entrance fee, that is, the only stamp on the road that has a price. It seems like a total disappointment to me, not even because we were pilgrims. In the end....
(Translated by Google) Among Galician churches, it doesn't stand out and could be just another one on the list. What's notable within the style is the unusual presence of wood-covered ceilings. Then there's the altar, which enjoys good natural lighting thanks to the rose window. The church displays on the altars or reredos are very few and many in Galician (tourism isn't always local). It seems it's not adequately prepared for visitors. They charge 2 euros for admission, which is perhaps symbolic, but it creates an expectation that the visit will be more rewarding.

The main façade features a typical Gothic rose window and superimposed semicircular arches. Inside, the stories told in each of the squares forming the altarpiece are particularly noteworthy. Also noteworthy are the more modern 18th-century sarcophagi. All in all, it's worth seeing. It has a basilica plan. It consists of three naves, the central one wider than the lateral ones, with three apses. The pillars of the nave are square in section with semi-columns on the fronts. The main chapel is covered with an abacus vault with rectangular profile ribs. The main façade was rebuilt between 1899 and 1901, due to the poor condition of the previous one, of which only the Gothic façade dedicated to Santiago is preserved. This façade has an ornamentation of archivolts, knurled columns in the jambs and a tympanum decorated with an image of Santiago; Above the door is a rose window, which leads to the cornice decorated with small blind arches. This church is a beautiful example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic, to which is added a discreet neomedieval façade, with a certain Lombard air.
