It is a great and unique experience to walk this mine that gave world like 1/8 of Hg. Young tour guide lady🌹 answered all questions about air system, maintaining the mine, etc. But a bit in rush way. Before entering mine there is a 20 minutes video about mine and Idrija. Than you changes cloths and walk inside for a bit less than an hour. There is a white baroque chapel of Holly Trinity inside with statue of saint Barbara. The tube has light all the way, but it is a bit unpleasant, if there were any. So respect to all mine workers. Unfortunatelly they don't sell Hg as they did in the past, because it is forbidden. On the way you can admire just some drops of Hg.
Incredibly interesting... Both the introductory film and the tour underground through the mine. A very unique experience. Many thanks to our guide Peter.
Fantastic tour and a great experience. Really impressed with how everything has been exhibited.
UNESCO heritage site ... Excellent guided tour...
You can visit the former mercury mine only by guided tour. They say it lasts for 90 minutes, but ours was about 2 hours. It seems long, but the time passed so quickly because the place is unique and the guide knew how to tell and show interesting things.
Great place! Exciting tour and hats off to Mr. Tolomin who is a super guide!
A very interesting presentation of the 500 years of mercury mining in Idrija. The guides are very knowledgeable and tell the story well. I recommend you buy a joint ticket to visit the mine and then the Smelting Plant on the opposite side of town. Tour one, then grab a bite to eat, then tour the other. It is a great way to spend the day, especially if the weather doesn’t cooperate to spend time outdoors.
Guided tours last 1.5 hours, and worth it! The show starts with a film which is translated to whatever language you speak! The largest part of the tour gives you an insight into the mercury ore mining technology of the last century.

This museum is really friendly to English speakers! Many other museums are mostly or partly in English (understandably) but almost everything here is in both languages, meaning you don’t miss much, if anything. Wonderful local museum that focuses on the history of the city of Idrija, its geology, and history of mercury mining. One of my favorite rooms talked about preserving Slovene culture under Italian occupation. O also really enjoyed the special exhibit about the properties of Mercury and parallels between Idrija and another mercury mining city in Spain. My favorite part though was the exhibit on Idrija Lace! It was very descriptive and showed lots of beautiful examples. Don’t sleep on the gift shop, which has several informative books and products from a local family of lacemakers.
Certainly a well restored building, pretty. A large part of the exhibition content overlaps with what you would hear at the Topilnica/Smelting plant and the mine Anthony's tunnel/Antonijev rov. However, it does have the added bonus of historical context of the town and areas through the 5 different governments in the 500 years. There is the lace exhibition. The small artisan shop is quite unique. I was surprised to find the castle's exhibition halls poorly aired, stuffy, and much less cool than I was hoping for given the thickness of the walls....
The staff are very nice. It was worth the trip, from entering to going through the museum I was impressed definitely a place to add to your list of things to visit.
Museum guide is very passionate about the subject, visuals are amazing too, worth a visit 👍
Very interesting museum, wide area of topics (geology, mining, the two wars, lacing) done with a lot of passion. The lady at the cashier was very nice and helpful!
Nice exhibition about the mining history of Idrija. Rich source of mercury and more metals.
Quiet place loads if Information, may be tough for children unless there's an audio guide. However the museum has so much information ! From establishment of the mine to war artifacts and demonstrations of lace making. Amazing local guide working in the office.
Interesting museum to discover the prominent mining city and its evolution until today. Pop by the Franja Hospital museum the same day, its worth it as well !

I have learned how mercury and mercury ore was mined and smelted. Great show and wonderful and friendly guide, Sara!
Don’t skip out on visiting this museum if you are planning a visit to the mine. It is a great complement, by giving a fascinating insight into the role of mercury through history as well as to the town of Idria and its people.
A worthwhile experience to learn more about mercury, mining for it, uses for it throughout the world and the processing of it. This exhibit ties in well with visiting the Anthony's Shaft mercury mine in the same village.
Great place to see all the steps mercury is going through. The guides will.also show you all the places and machinery used in the past
Loved the exhibition (although a couple of the interactive pieces were not working) and the tour guide.
great museum about mercury mining, history and usage of this great poisinous living silver
Excellent modern museum with interactive explanation of Hg mining and purification through the years.
Very interesting museum with clear information and friendly staff. Definitely a recommendation for everyone interested in the old mining industry! The combination with the Mercury mine itself made the tour complete.

(Translated by Google) Small but beautiful private museum that we found by chance. For three euros each, you will find two wonderful people, one is 93 years old and the other just under, who will accompany you to tell you in Italian and with a lot of passion, details of the First and Second World War. At the end they also offered us some of their liqueur and took a photo with the US Navy military hats on display.

(Translated by Google) The Idrija mining house can be found right above the Frančiška shaft. To view it, you need to visit the City Museum of Idrija. "Miner's house" is a building that speaks eloquently about the living culture of mining families. It was built at the end of the 18th century. It underwent its renovation during the celebration of Idrija's 500th anniversary. It was renovated in 1994. The view from the outside makes it clear that it leans against the hill. The house is characterized by a high facade and many small windows. Typically, it is built only on the ground floor, while the construction of the two floors and the attic is wooden and covered with plaster. The interior staircases and ceilings are also wooden. The roof of the house is steeply placed so that it dries quickly after rain and that snow quickly slides off it in winter. When we walk around the inside of the house, we can clearly see all this. On the ground floor, we can see the main room, which is called the house, from there we enter the partially partitioned bedroom. The furniture is authentic, as is the bread oven that heated the room. On the ground floor we can also see the kitchen, which has always been nicely decorated. In the kitchen there is also a firebox for the aforementioned bread oven. Kitchen utensils that were usually made at home are a surprise in the kitchen. From there, we proceed up the wooden stairs to the higher floor, which is designed a bit differently. It is not possible to enter the attic during the tour. The tour is suitable for adults and children. When we get back out of the house, we better understand why the "miner's house" blended in so beautifully with its surroundings. The house also has its own kindergarten, which is called a nursery school. Today, the house especially comes alive during the annual lace festival. Prenavljati so jo začeli leta 1994.
Unfortunately the Museum was closed, when It should be open!😕
(Translated by Google) I recommend it to everyone, young and old. One of the better museums. (Original) Priporočam vsem, starim in mladim. Eden boljših muzejev.
