An old theme park that has seen better days. However, the service from the staff is great and it is an affordable way to spend a day for those who do not mind a day trip. At least I find it more enjoyable than the seven hells of Beppu. Went on a rainy weekday despite not being a big Sanrio fan.
Our child really enjoyed the overall experience at Sanrio in Kyushu. Some attractions inside the park require an extra fee. There are also gift shops where you can buy souvenirs—the plush toys are super cute, though a bit pricey.
recently went and loved it. everything is super cute (especially the boat ride, but we walked down at least ten flights of stairs to get there since we didnt know the train went straight there) overall a really good theme park and would revisit!
Such a fun place to visit! 🎀 There’s a direct bus from Yokoku Station and Kitsuki Station, which makes getting there super easy. Almost all of the rides had little to no wait time, so I could enjoy more attractions without rushing. The whole theme park is unbelievably cute, and the gift shops are just as lovely — full of adorable things you’ll want to take home! 💖
One of biggest attraction in this Sanrio theme park was the gift shops. There were many different merchandise of popular Sanrio characters featured in 3 to 4 gift shops located right after the ticketing entrance. The theme park also had some fun rides, such as the car where you are moving in a carriage overhead and can get an excellent view of the surroundings, and you control the speed of the carriage by yourself. Only issue we had was this theme park was not stroller or wheelchair friendly. No escalators or lifts to go from the ground level where the Hello Kitty Palace was located, to the 2nd level where most of the rides were. Be prepared to fold the stroller and carry it up and down. Maps and directions were also only in Japanese, so we gave up trying to find the boat ride which was located somewhere at the bottom of the theme park. We also wasted time queuing for the Hello Kitty Palace, as we didnt know it was just to take a photo with Hello Kitty, which was a key interest and not worth waiting almost 1 hour. Still a pleasant experience, though improvements can be made to be more family friendly (escalator?) and international (English map and description of the attraction).
It’s nice, gift shops are cool and rides are moderately thrilling. Parades are cool and fun.
The park may be a bit older, but it's definitely well-maintained and the ticket prices are very reasonable. What really stood out to us was the fact that the park wasn't crowded at all - there were no long lines for rides and we were able to enjoy everything at a relaxed pace. Plus, there were plenty of rides that were perfect for younger children. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend Hello Kitty Harmonyland to families with young kids. Thanks for a great day out! 🎀
My daughter has a dream to go back to Harmony Land, the amusement park she used to visit as a child Let's make dreams come true for my children

One of my favorite things about Japan is how the old (sometimes really old) and new coexist, and are respected. These castle ruins and elementary school is a prime example. First off it's beautiful. Right on the water, Oita in the distance, super scenic. But for me, that it's on the elementary school grounds (a middle school is right next door) is such a cool blend, so unique. The school kids have it so nice here, their respect for the ruins is apparent. 2023
The castle is no longer there. However, there was an elementary school and the stairs are still intact. Quite interesting to see if you are into Japanese historical building.
(Translated by Google) January 21, 2025 Hiji Castle Ruins, Oita Prefecture Located about an 8-minute walk toward the ocean after getting off at Kotani Station on the JR Kyushu Nippo Main Line. The Hiji Town Board of Education's ``Hiji Castle Ruins'' history is listed below. Hiji Castle is a new-story, flat-footed castle built on a low plateau overlooking Beppu Bay. It is also known as ``Baya Castle'' and is said to have been named by Toshinaga, the third lord of the domain, after quoting from the ancient Chinese ``Junanzi'' or ``Shojing.'' The Kinoshita family of the Hiji domain is one of the few feudal lords in Japan that is connected to Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and since One (Kodaiin), the younger sister of Iesada, the father of the first lord Kinoshita Nobu, became Hideyoshi's legal wife, the Kinoshita family name was allowed. It was done. Engo entered Hiji in August 1601, and with permission from the shogunate, began construction of Hiji Castle. It was largely completed in August of the following year, and Engo left the temporary building he had set up in Fujiwara Village within his territory while the castle was being built, and moved into Hiji Castle. Hiji Castle was built with the Honmaru in the center, the Ninomaru, the Sannomaru, and the outer walls, separated by a moat, and castle gates were installed at important points. 4th year of Meiji After Niwanai Prefecture in 1871, the buildings within the castle were demolished one after another, except for Kimon-sama and Somon Bridge. An elementary school has been built on the castle ruins, so it's hard to get a general picture, but you can see that it's a wonderful castle with neatly stacked stone walls, an inner moat, a turret, and a well-maintained seaside park. The image of Kaijo is that it is a larger version of Kitsuki Castle. At this school, I feel that the children inherit the discipline of their predecessors and grow up to be ambitious.

This place is almost heaven. My 18m loves flowers and just enjoy walking around here and chasing butterflies. Very serene and peaceful Can just while away time reading a book at the cafe. Cafe has a kids area on the 2nd floor with high chair for kids. Their cookies are the best I ever had. The orange one.
Oga Farm gives you the out of the city feel where you are in your own private garden. Where you just immense your mind and soul in the natural surroundings.
Beautiful flower gardens as well as vegetables and fruit trees. Secluded beach with nice views, but some drift trash. Large tortoise in garden
Delicious lunch and a truly peaceful garden hidden away in Hiji. Just fifteen minutes from 杵築 Station and ten from Oga station, it a super cute relaxing spot. Their bread is to die for! There is also a painted stone animal museum.
Lovely gardens - great place to study or hang out - wifi and cafe! Plus awesome photo opportunities galore. Bring your kids, your portable painting kit. Definitely inspiring place.
For me this place needs more development to attract more customers… they need more classifications/arrangement and more beautification of their garden … thou the staffs are nice and smiling ☺️
Very beautiful place but it's overpriced 🙏 and only open until 5pm, with such price I'd hope it open until at least 8pm. Food is good but the portion is too small. Good point with free water but lacking sauces etc. Overall, it's good place to go and chill with coffee but better come full stomach 🙏

In any case, I feel happy to be able to appreciate wonderful works up close 😊😊😊 (Original)

The exhibition rooms are on the first and second floors, but they are generally small. There are few people, so you can take your time to appreciate the artworks. Some photography is allowed. The Nikaido Museum of Art is a private art museum specializing in Japanese paintings located along Beppu Bay in Hinode Town, Oita Prefecture. It was established in 1994 with art pieces collected by the sixth head of Nikaido Sake Brewery as its core. The calm white-walled building blends in with the atmosphere of the castle town, providing an environment where you can take your time to appreciate the artworks. The museum's collection includes approximately 1,000 pieces of Japanese painting, mainly hanging scrolls, from the Meiji period to the present. In particular, there is a wide selection of works by masters representing the Tokyo and Kyoto art circles, such as Yokoyama Taikan's "Sacred Mountain Fuji" and "Tokai no Akebono," Uemura Shōen's portraits of beautiful women, and Kawai Gyokudō's depictions of nature. You can also enjoy comparing the difference between silk and paper versions. There is also a wide selection of works by local artists such as Fukuda Heihachirō and Takayama Tatsuo, giving a sense of connection to local culture. The exhibits are changed five to six times a year through special exhibitions, and the appeal is that they are organized around a theme, allowing you to make new discoveries. The works are accompanied by detailed explanations, so even visitors who are not familiar with Japanese paintings can deepen their understanding while viewing them. There is a lounge inside the museum overlooking the Japanese garden, where you can soak in the afterglow while looking at the flowers of the four seasons. Shoes are not allowed inside, and you must change into slippers before entering, but the interior is barrier-free, and there are disabled toilets and elevators with a special discount, so it appears to be accessible. It's a small museum, with one room on the first floor and one on the second, but it's usually quiet, even on Saturday afternoons, so you can enjoy a leisurely stroll. About half of the exhibits have signs indicating photography is permitted. There's a fairly easy-to-park parking lot at the back, with about 20 spaces, and there's also a large cosmos flower next door. While there seems to be some mixed opinions about the 800 yen admission fee for such a small museum, it's probably a good choice for fans of Japanese paintings. There's also free Wi-Fi on the first floor. It's easy to find, right in front of JR Hinode Station, but if you use a navigation system coming from the Oita or Beppu direction, it will take you down a strange, narrow road via Hachiman Shrine. That's certainly the shortest route, though (lol). Postscript: I went to the special exhibition on a weekday afternoon, and for some reason I was surprised to find that the parking lot was almost full. Perhaps this is due to the influence of Yokoyama Taikan. You can see the portrait of Shuzo Sato, a man full of humanity from Hijimachi, and the paintings that are exhibited, one by one, that give a very candid impression of the relationship between the natural world, people, and living things. It seems that if you ask for the fish you are aiming for, they will take it for you, but the price may be higher than expected. The auctioned fish are immediately put up for sale on the seaside, but the price affixed is the auctioned price, so the price that the average person can buy is about 30 to 35% added on to that price. It was my first time visiting a place and I was wandering around without knowing what to do, but they kindly told me all sorts of things, so I was able to buy the fish I wanted without any trouble. I think it would be a good idea to watch the movement of the tide. On rough days or bad tides, the number of fish caught will decrease, so please avoid the sad situation of not catching many fish even though you have gone to the trouble. Although it is called Ogami fishing port, it is generally better to call it [Fukae].
(Translated by Google) Even the general public can purchase it! However, it cannot be purchased directly. You probably won't be able to participate in the auction. There are several wholesalers like ○○ Shoten, so we buy what they bid on. The auction begins at around 7:20, and items that have been dropped are displayed at the front in the order they were dropped. Please note that the price will be 30% more than the displayed price! (Example: 1000 yen → 1300 yen) Closed on Wednesdays and Sundays, the best days to visit are if the waves are calm the day before (not raining or windy), the catch the next day will increase significantly. The size and price are incomparable to supermarkets, so if you only have 2,000 yen, you won't have to worry about missing out on dinner. If you want to snack on sashimi, 1000 yen might be enough. Once the fish is sold, they also sell vegetables, so if you are interested in that, please do. And one point of advice. If in doubt, buy it. There are many customers, so they end up buying it before they can decide. If you see a good product lined up, please let us know right away. The place isn't that noisy, and the staff are all kind, so feel free to ask what you want to know (of course, if it's crowded, keep it short). It's the best! *The yellowtail in the photo was 87cm long, average fat, and dying but still alive and cost 1,300 yen (original price).
