Imposing castle in a beautiful setting. The wall walk gives spectacular views although it was a little scary in the strong winds when we visited..... There is a very good exhibition of the history of the castle and a lovely cafe too
A lovely castle to walk around the high wall. Also a little wander around the perimeter was nice to see it from a different angle. The cafe and museum were both good as well. Not much going on with the inside space of green grass. Also they had repair works in place which prevented us going the whole way round. Its also 100% dog friendly which was great! Even up on the wall.
This is a well maintained castle that you can walk around at your leisure, it is pretty much an access all areas place where you an walk around the walls and the various buildings within that contain static exhibits regarding the history of the castle and the area. The staff as expected are excellent. The cafe is excellent with a good selection of food and drinks, toilets are fresh and clean and there's plenty of parking.
Fascinating place to visit. Good parking (with 2 blue badge places), impressive castle, free electeonic guides with guided tours also available. Reasonably priced cafe. And a wall walk also part of the experience. Well worth a visit.
Really enjoyed our visit to Framlingham Castle today. Was great to walk the walls, read the history of the castle, walking through the local history museum, have a drink at the cafe and enjoy browsing the gift shop. Loved that there is a currently a Task Master challenge and activities going on. So from the castle walls we could hear hysterical giggles and people competed against their team mates to win the taskmaster trophy and have their photograph taken in the winners photo frame. Well worth a visit. Even better if you are already an English Heritage partron -free entry and discount in the shops.
Lovely few hours spent here walking around the castle and the grounds lovely view from the top going around. Have 2 little exhibition room. We did the guided tour which was good. Not a whole day thing but we had fun
Lovely place to visit and obviously this is the castle that Ed Sheeran has sung about "The Castle On The Hill". We didn't go into the castle, but did walk around and take some lovely pictures and then visit the Two Magpies Bakery which was really good. We had a nice couple of hours out so if you have a bit of free time, it's worth a visit for a leisurely walk and a spot of lunch.
Due to the high wind, we couldn't do the battlements walk whilst listening to the commentary so the rating is lower than it would have been. Small discount on entry fee as a result but it wasn't as good an experience without being high up. The museum inside has some interesting stuff though. Staff were very friendly & helpful.

A very informative wine tour and tasting. We tried 6 wines and 2 vermouth along with an extensive talk and tour by Les who was fantastic. We purchased 2 bottles which we are looking forward to enjoying.
We were driving past on our way to South Cove for a girls weekend, and happened to pass the vineyard. We were treated to a wonderful wine tasting and walk around the vineyard with lovely explanations. A gem of a place and fantastic wine!
An absolutely beautiful vineyard. It is run by some amazing people. The varieties are delicious and so well made. Please come and have a look around, try some of what they offer. Enjoy my time there every year
We visited the vineyard on Saturday for a tour and tasting as a gift for my 30th birthday. I was looking forward to it, but it exceeded my expectations for sure. Les was a brilliant host, so informative - I had no idea how intricate and complicated it all is! And was very warm and naturally funny. The vineyard is stunning and perfectly manicured. Lunch was lovely - we had a ploughman’s platter followed by strawberry cheesecake. Over the afternoon we tasted 9 wines in all from white, red, rosé to sparkling. It was incredibly difficult to pick a favourite they were all lovely and would suit a range of seasons/events. We were also kindly given a full glass of our favourite. It was a fantastic day we enjoyed thoroughly and of course bought a bottle of our favourite to bring home. Will definitely be returning. Thank you Les for a wonderful day!
Best wine tasting tour I've been on and I've tried a few. Les has great knowledge a good sense of humour and explains everything about the process in detail. Interesting to learn the differences between the varieties of grape grown and how they're cared for. Lovely lunch and nice to meet new people too. Would I return, yes and would I recommend a tour definitely. Pitched at the right level and a lovely way to spend the day.
We were gifted a voucher for a wine tasting at Shawsgate Vineyard. Fantastic event. Les, the owner, gave a great presentation and tour of the vineyard. Who knew there was so much to growing vines… And offered a tasting of 8 different wines! Small portions enough for a sip!!! But very enlightening. Arrange a visit soon…
Absolutely lovely tour !! Les was a superb host .. imparting great knowledge on the grapes and vines and added a lovely dry humour along the way. The lunch was excellent and the wines very enjoyable .. highly recommended !! (Ps.watch out for the ‘exam’ at the end of the tour !! 😉
Wonderful vineyard, We had this place reccomended to us,while down south visiting relatives. we tried 4 different wines before choosing Jester, such a phenomenal taste, well balanced and crisp) and Maron, a sweeter light straw coloured desert wine so nicely flavoured. Wish we had bought more bottles of both!!(I'm more a red drinker but these whites were some of the best l have ever tried).sadly we are at the other end of the country but lm sure we will be back.

This is a really lovely parish church in Framlingham close to the castle, it has a really beautiful and peaceful interior full of light, space and interesting details full historical significance. If you are going to the castle take a short stroll down to this church for a little peace and quiet reflection.
St Michael's Church in Framlingham is a beautiful church with a rich history dedicated to Saint Michael. One of the most noted features of the church is the world-famous Thamar organ. Well worth a visit if you are in Framlingham.
Beautiful church well steeped in history and well maintained . The tombs were worth a slight detour for the castle and of course its free
Saint Michael's church, Framlingham, Suffolk has received a thorough and recent treatment by John Hawes, and I'm hoping that these few pictures will add something to that. The organ is the principal treasure, with parts dating from at least 1630. It is a rare survival of the puritan period, and only Gloucester Cathedral has similar original and painted pipes. Not that even the little organ visible in the picture of the pulpit was made in 1797, although it's only been in this church since 1980. Otherwise, the church has many interesting features but the arrangement can be confusing. The big unglazed west window is distracting enough make good pictures of the nave difficult. Note the interesting twelve-seat bench, made specially for the twelve residents of an almshouse. I have 'teased' the wall paining in Photoshop to make it as clear as possible.
Very large, great tombs worth reading about. Unusual layout. Lovely church chest
Beautiful church and the resting place of the Dukes of Norfolk who we have read about and their involvement in British politics and wars.
Great Church Grade 1 listed and the burial site of the Howard family . You will also find Henry Fitzroy first Duke of Richmond and Hrnry V111 illegitimate son here . The Thamar Organ one of only three surviving is of significant importance but I was most impressed by a rather simple cross and the baptismal font . I know I am wierd . This is well worth seeing if in Framlingham full of history beauty and splendour.
Well maintained church in the centre of Framlingham. A shirt walk away from Framlingham Castle.

Having visited Framlingham Castle, this was the obvious stop for lunch. First impression was of a classic country pub, and we were greeted by very friendly staff. I wasn't expecting the food to be more than average, but it was way beyond expectations. I had a burger, which was cooked to perfection. My husband had fish and chips and was happy to find that the batter was light and crispy. My youngest had a children's all day breakfast which he enjoyed and my oldest also had a burger. We were well looked after and I hope to return on another visit to Suffolk.
Varied expirence to be fair , Tuesday last orders at 8,45 pm , fairly cheery staff.. Thursday quite a bit more miserable, didn't see anybody over the age of 30 or happy ? If your going to charge £6 a pint for San Miguel in febuary.. a smiling thank you is a prerequisite .. co op is over the road.. !
Pleasantly surprised by this place. Was driving through with my brood. Decided we were hungry and stopped by. The burgers here are great, food is properly cooked. The staff are friendly and attentive without being annoying. The place might need little TLC. But on the whole it made for great lunch time.
6 of us had lunch after visiting the castle. The staff were all lovely and 5 meals were really nice. I had the vegan burger which was just 2 pieces of vegan fillets. Very bland and tough to eat. There are many good vegan burgers that you could provide.
Let me start by saying the food there was extremely delicious. Then the delivery time was under 15 minutes for 4 people which is amazing. And the Inn was moderately busy. I am very satisfied with the servise, staff and the food. I will definitely be going there again. Recommend
Lovely day out, the staff were very helpful and friendly. It inspired us to join english heritage 😃. Also the town is small and lovely, very friendly people, with a nice pub near the castle
Nice pub for an afternoon meal. Good had generous portions and was decent. The salad was fresh as was the bread for my sandwich. Loads of bacon in the blt. Onion rings could have been a bit crispier and the salad needed a bit less dressing but overall it was a great meal. The out door seating is lovely with nice views of the castle.
A lovely put near the castle & the castle car park. It’s virtually next to the car park. Lady working there was so lovely, my daughter loved her. We ordered drinks/crisps only but can can also order food & it looked tasty. Dogs allowed. Toilets nice & clean. Would definitely recommend!

Small but information rich museum inside the old workhouse in the grounds of Framlingham Castle. The museum is run by a local organisation separate from English Heritage, but entry is included in the castle ticket. Exhibits and displays cover a range of different aspects of local history. There's plenty to read and heritage artefacts to see, and of course, Ed Sheeran gets a mention.
This museum is housed within Framlingham Castle. The museum is run by a charity independent of English Heritage who manages the castle. The museum is usually open whenever the castle is open. The Lanman museum collection includes artefacts relating to all aspects of daily life in Framlingham over many centuries.

Enjoyed a bit of a pamper with waxing & pedicure. Brooke & Alice were lovely & the best wax I’ve had! Looking forward to booking more pampering!
Decided to treat myself and get a massage. Great service, will go again if my back becomes tense again. 11/10.
Professional, relaxed and friendly service. Great experience. Excellent range of treatments. Dermalogica salon - amazing product.
I have my eyebrows and lashes done by Beth & I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Always professional and friendly. Thank you Beth 💋
I love coming here to be pampered. Even if it's just to have a brow wax. You're always made to feel welcome. Thanks girls you're the best.
Kerry did my nails and make up for my wedding. She listened to what I liked and helped me make decisions based on what suited me. She also did all this under COVID conditions - thank you! Such a lovely salon.
Kerry did an exceptional job of the make up for myself and my wedding party. She was extremely professional, responsive to queries and made everyone feel at ease and well cared for. Thank you Kerry for helping make my wedding day so special. Would thoroughly recommend.
I have been visiting The Retreat for well over ten years and every time I’ve ever been I leave feeling refreshed and relaxed. Kerry and her team are always brilliant. Thank you.
