Entry to Falkland Palace and Garden is free for members of the National Trust of Scotland. Tickets could be purchased either at the shop or an entrance to the palace, and for non-members are around £18 per adult. The nearest car park is located around 100 yards from the entrance to this attraction and is free of charge. During my visit all staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the display inside the building and garden. Within the palace itself not all rooms are accessible for the general public. Though, staff in those accessible rooms can give quite a good insight into historical facts about the Stuarts, and former and current keepers of the Falkland Palace. The garden, orchard and meadow are lovely spots and appear to be very peaceful. At the back of the garden there is located the world's oldest tennis court, which is almost 500 years old. There were people even playing a game of tennis during my visit. The willow maze is located in the orchard and is worth checking too. No cafe on the premises of the Falkland Palace but there are quite a few good places to visit just outside this tourist attraction. I will definitely be back to the palace and gardens, as well as to explore more of the surrounding area. Highly recommended.
A wonderful place to visit. A stunning building with many very knowledgeable staff on hand to tell you the history of the many rooms. The palace is very well preserved. Once you have walked round the palace the grounds are a must as well, with the world's oldest tennis court which is still used to this day, to the orchard and foundations of the original castle. A fabulous day out with a nice gift shop at the end.
Gradually getting around the castles with my NTS card, free entry yay. Well worth a visit with a lot of history. Plenty informed guides to tell all about the rooms . The gardens are very nice ,so is the tennis court. Highlander was filmed here and you can see why as the little lanes and closes don't look they have changed over the years.
Amazing palace and the volunteers and the knowledge they share is fascinating. To see Mary Queen of Scots dress like up I loved along with her bed, it's small! The grounds are gorgeous and lots of beautiful photo opportunities. The village is beautiful as well and everyone so friendly and welcoming
Enjoyable day, a lot to see. Carpark not on premises, no cafe but lovely places nearby. Splendid rooms in the palace. Pleasant grounds to explore including the olest tennis court in the world.
Went on a Sunday - St. Andrews day Most shops were open. Nice little place, can cover it in about 30mins. Stay and take in the place with a cuppa and snack from a couple of bakers in the area. Everyone very pleasant. Just say hello to everyone. Most are happy enough to chat. I would recommend it for a stroll or relaxed afternoon for a few hours if that.
Really enjoyed our visit to Falkland Palace! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the place itself is beautiful and full of history. The grounds are quite large. We didn’t manage to see the whole garden this time, but we loved what we saw. Definitely planning to come back for another visit!
Falkland Palace & Garden is a beautifully preserved historic site with rich royal history, peaceful gardens, and stunning Renaissance architecture. Amy is an excellent storyteller, giving us an engaging overview that linked Falkland to other Scottish castles and brought everything to life.

I visited today with a view to join the Health club, which i am now joining. Staff were lovely, very friendly and welcoming. the facilities are small but just what i was looking for. very peaceful vibe. everything was fully explained and their entry system for members is very modern. opening is 5 am - 10 pm 7 days a week, which is fantastic. i stayed for a coffee, which was very nice indeed. I also see they have fishers and donaldson cakes . i was very impressed all round, looking forward to starting my membership. the only thing i did note is they need to get their Jacuzzi fixed, i asked and and there was no date for it being back up and running. thanks guys
We had a fantastic stay at the Lomond Hills Hotel. The family room was incredibly spacious with a huge TV, and we appreciated the 24/7 access. The hotel has a large car park, a great bar, and a lovely heated swimming pool with ideal depth for adults. There's also a gym, and the village itself is very peaceful. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The only downside was the continental breakfast, which wasn't quite up to par. It's a bit outside of Edinburgh, but only about an hour's drive, and it made for a nice, unique stay.
Had a really lovely time here! Staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The room itself was very clean and comfy, and we were well-located for some scenic nature walks in Lomond Hills and Falklands. Also really delicious breakfast and dinner at the restaurant!
I am a solo traveller, I arrived in the afternoon for 1 night, the hotel is being refurbished, I believe it changed hands so they will need time to upgrade the hotel. My 1 bedroom has been refurbished, it is modern, clean and had everything I needed although compact, I slept well, a large tv which was good for my aging eyes, a lovely bathroom with circular shower, a wardrobe, table & really comfortable chair. Would I return!! Absolutely 💯.
We loved our stayed here, lovely little quiet village of Freuchie. Rooms were very good, good on site parking with good facilities. By far the best part of this hotel was the food.. breakfast was lovely but the evening meals if you chose to eat in were excellent. We can't recommend the pasta dish and the pie high enough. Huge portions cooked to perfection. Many thanks for a lovely stay..
I got a warm welcome which was nice. The staff are super friendly but a little over worked. The service in the restaurant was a little slow but Derren was working hard by himself. The hotel is being refurbished and what they are doing seems good quality. Comfy bed with lovely pillows. Needs a little character touch as the bedroom is all white but I think they are working through the hotel updating it. Someone mentioned the need for black out curtains. I definitely agree as i was woken up early with the sunshine beaming in. I will be back again when I'm next in the area. Overall a good stay.
The hotel wasn’t bad, just a little claustrophobic. The room was spacious, but not very well lit. However it was pretty clean. The bed sheets smelled of chlorine, but that’s a good sign for me, which means that the sheets were washed and disinfected. The bed mattress was not very comfortable though, I had the feeling that I’m falling down. Also, the bed was so high that my child couldn’t climb up or down without my help every time. A good thing was that they offered access to Netflix, Marvel, Disney and other streaming services. All in all, it was a fine hotel, I would consider it for the future, but maybe with a lower bed.
Public areas were not clean, rabbit warren of corridors which were very narrow. Room was single with a double bed which I had to climb over to get to the wardrobe area. The window was sealed shut and there was no other ventilation. I couldn't comment on the food as we only stayed an hour then checked out as we didn't feel safe in the room.

The Stag Inn is the perfect family restaurant for cozy winter times! ❄️🔥 On my visits, I enjoyed a delicious burger one time and a succulent steak the second time. The waitress was incredibly polite and friendly, making the dining experience even better. I'm definitely planning to return for more delightful meals. What's even better is the warm and inviting atmosphere, especially during winter, with the fireplace keeping us toasty. The music added to the charm and was truly inspiring. 🍔🥩🎶 Highly recommended for anyone looking for a welcoming and tasty dining experience, especially during Falkland's winters! 👍😊
Enjoyed a recent visit to Falkland and came back to The Stag Inn as I’ve visited previously with friends. Being the first week in April, we found nowhere was serving food after 8pm and a few times we strolled to the pub in the evening it was closed which was a shame. However when we called for a light meal one afternoon the service was excellent. The young lady who took our orders was very patient, helpful and efficient. The food itself was delicious, we all had a filled baguette with different fillings. We came down on the Wednesday evening as a friend of ours plays an instrument in the open mic evening. Several people come with various instruments and they play a variety of music together, a traditional pub with ongoing local traditions which is lovely. It was a fun and lively evening with the music and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The landlady was there and is very friendly and approachable, lovely to chat with. We called another evening just for an hour or so and enjoyed a quiet drink late evening before closing which was also nice. Very atmospheric place with a lot of original features and friendly staff.
Stopped on bikes for a welcome break after a long run. Service was decent ( not overly freindly) and looked like a good range of drinks available. Didn't look at the menu but the restaurant side did seem to getting busy. Nice place albeit slightly hidden away in the town. Recommend a visit if you are visiting Falkland. We paid a visit here as I noticed it changed owners. Great improvement in service and atmosphere. Enjoyed an excellent meal with friendly service.
Amazing staff and great atmosphere. We went there for Burn's night celebration and had a really good time. Dishes and drinks worth a try, and you must not miss the fudge cake, it's delicious 😋 They have gluten free, vegetarian options, which is considerate enough.
I highly recommend the place, the food and the staff are so welcoming. One of the oldest pub in town and the atmosphere is very comfortable. You have to walk right on the corner after the town mainstreet
We ate at the The Stagg Inn in Falkland, Scotland on May 31st. I was waiting to post until I got the name of our waitress, but I never found out so here it goes. We went during their Jam Session which was wonderful!!! So was the food and the service. Our waitress was friendly, beautiful attitude and on top of it. Can you believe they had fajita’s lol??? Born and raised three hours from the Mexican border, I’m picky about my Mexican food, but these fajitas were spot…on!! Highly recommend if you’re a TexMex fan in Scotland. We were blown away by the music sesh…some amazing artists there. We will be back The Stag Inn. We’ve already added it to our 2024 calendar 🥰.
Amazing pub located in a beautiful village. It was totally life saver. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Whole place was clean and tidy. Variety of sitting arrangement was available and was very conformable. It has great atmosphere and excellent selection of drinks. They also serve lunch and dinner.
Super friendly service, very accommodating for one of my twins wanting plain pasta and cheese 🤭 and treated my sister in law with a birthday candle on her dessert 🎂. A very memorable family meal thank you 💖✨

Such a great walk through the estate and along the gorge past many small waterfalls, the water was crystal clear. Path is well marked to the maspie Den. And it is so much fun walking through the dark tunnel and then through the waterfall. The estate is lovely and there are plenty more trails to do and more sites to visit on the estate, you can certainly spend the whole day exploring here.
Beautiful walk with lots of walkways, bridges and waterfalls. Well worth exploring
Lovely walks along the water stream. Didn't know there are two waterfalls, the smaller one first, and the main one a bit further up. Thanks to the local lady, walking her 14 weeks puppy, who told us about the main waterfall. She was very friendly, really enjoyed chatting with her about local country life.
What an amazing beautiful place fantastic views waterfall and dogs loved it too
Wonderfully maintained paths, though the route is quite long, steep and rough in places. When you get to the waterfall, keep going, the actual waterfall is further up the path.
Beautiful place for a walk, lots of waterfalls and things to see. Tracks OK but can get really muddy when raining.
Absolutely beautiful place, bit wet under foot this time of year. Great for dog walking with bins dotted around and a good cafe. Don't forget to leave a couple of pounds in the honesty box for parking.
Easy access and some excellent walks in and around maspie den

The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was well outfitted and comfortable. The continental breakfast was very delicious and they kindly accommodated my husband's gluten sensitivity. I liked the art on the walls I wish that we had had time to check out the gallery!
I think our 4th or 5th time staying there. It's my home from home when I'm in Fife and just love it. John the owner does a mean breakfast in the morning and the place is cosy and comfortable. Loving the liquorice allsorts too!!
Fantastic accommodation, beautiful garden, excellent breakfasts and perfect location. Along with the friendly, helpful hosts you couldn't ask for much more. Keep up the good work . All the best for the future.
Best stay in a very long time! Falkland is a nice little village and John was very sweet. Amazing breakfast!
Lovely accommodation in a picture postcard location. John, our host, could not do more to make our stay more welcoming and more comfortable!
A lovely little cottage to stay in the heart of Falkland.

Awesome trails, stunning views, combination of both the forest and brilliant scenery from atop the East Lomond overlooking Falkland. Easy trails available for beginners, we navigated towards the blue trail from criagmead car park and descended down stream and crossed the road before Falkland to ascend East Lomond and then back down towards the car park, it was a circular route. This trail offered us both the wonders of the forest, stream and small waterfalls as well as the stunning scenery from along the way to the top as well as the top of East Lomond itself. I must say that the ascent we chose is not easy for beginners so would not recommend this one for those less physically able, there are easier there and back paths to choose from. One of the cool things which I haven't seen anywhere before was a walk on a bridge, under a bridge, quite odd but fascinating. Go out and enjoy your time there!
A great place for the adventurous retiree. Two of us septagenarians hiked up from Craigmead car park, above Falkland, under clear blue skies. A gentle slope over 4 km ended with a sharpish climb up West Lomond to be treated with a spectacular 360 degree view from the Cairngorms to the Pentland Hills beyond Edinburgh, encompassing the River Forth and the the River Tay and an overview of Loch Leven and well beyond
Scenic region of open countryside, hill walks, woodland trails and great views. Highlights include Glen Vale with its steep sided sandstone valley, remarkable sandstone formation of Bunnet Stane, walking trails to the West Lomond Hill Cairn, and designed landscape and picturesque waterfalls of the Falkland Estate. Free parking is provided for the main trails, though some places were getting busy even on a January weekday, so may be best to arrive early on weekends to find a space. Trails are generally well maintained and signposted, ideal for hiking and dog walking. Falkland is a very attractive small town just on the edge of the park, with lots of history and a good selection of independent shops, cafés and pubs. It makes a great starting point for a walk into the hills. Visiting in winter when the hills were covered in snow and waterfalls surrounded by icicles was an unforgettable experience.
I loved this place. It's not a difficult climb but people with a wobbly leg like mine should think of hiking sticks. It can be a nice circular route so take some time for that.
I have lived in this area all my life and still find different areas to explore in the Lomond Hills Regional Park. It has incredible scenery with so many long, medium and short walks taking in a huge area. I usually Mountain bike it which most of the trails are fine for. Walking is the most popular, there are many car parks dotted around with very good maps to guide you. Some of the parking areas have toilets which, as far as I have seen, are very well cleaned and maintained. All the walks and trails can be used by all levels of experience and fitness. Sundays are the most popular days, car parks are busy but always spaces available. Also very dog friendly...Well worth a visit.
Most spectacular walk I’ve ever been on! Doggo couldn’t be happier too. Unlimited gorgeous plot of never-ending land, really makes you feel free. Some of the photos I've taken don't even look real!! They’re entirely untouched!
I go here multiple timew every year! It's absolutely beautiful. So clean & everybody I meet on my adventures is so friendly 😊 dog friendly trails as well! We go to have a good walk & a nice picnic.
There is more than one trail to pick from depending on level. Public toilets at both car parks, very helpful. The views go on for miles with glimpses up toward Dundee and as far down as the Forth Road Bridge. We managed to fit in both hills but all it did was show more of the area we can't wait to explore with ruins and historical areas from the iron age. Even both hills weren't excessively strenuous if you took your time and was worth the struggle up the steeper incline to view from the top.

A wonderfully presented shop, full of a variety of small and large purchases of good quality and interesting styles you wont find in a main stream shot. The ladies working were lovely and walking advertisements of what the shop has to offer. Some things are vintage, others are new but with vintage style.
The friendly owner kindly let us shelter from the torrential rain and we came away with a lovely vintage first aid kit. The shop had a charming ambience and was full of treasures. Will definitely visit again next time we're in Falkland.
I cannot recommend Vintage Quince enough! I visited this lovely vintage shop during a trip to Scotland, where I was exploring Outlander filming locations with my mother, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. We were there to see the famous inn from the show, but what an incredible surprise to discover this hidden gem of a shop. The store was filled with so many fantastic treasures that it was difficult to decide what would fit in our suitcases for the trip home! I ended up with a few wonderful items, but I regretted not purchasing a stunning vintage handbag. After leaving Scotland, I contacted the shop on social media to see if the handbag was still available. To my delight, it was, and the team at Vintage Quince went above and beyond to arrange shipping it to me. Their service was exceptional, and I’m so grateful for their effort to ensure I got the piece I loved. I will continue to check their website for more vintage finds and visit whenever I’m in the area. If you're a vintage lover or just looking for something special, this shop is a must-visit!
I discovered Vintage Quine a few years ago by chance. The moment I stepped through the door it was like stepping back in time. Gramophone music set the backdrop to the most beautiful collection of original vintage clothing mixed with all my favourite repro brands: The Seamstress of Bloomsbury, The House of Foxy, Emmy Design Sweden, What Katie Did, Pretty Retro, The Pretty Dress Company, Roses Wardrobe, Powder and much more. Cosy fairisle knitwear, tweeds, jewellery, hats, little gifts, vintage sewing supplies, shoes, bags… this little shop has it all. The charm of the place stays with you. Even the changing room looks like a vintage dressing room or boudoir. Dogs are welcome. Lisa, the lovely owner and the rest of the Quines are sure to make you most welcome and help you find a special treasure.
This is an adorable vintage shop in Falkland. As others have said, it is a mix of old and new, but staff are knowledgeable about the items nonetheless. Everything was so nicely done!
I made an online order but would love to visit the shop itself. I'm sure I'll make a special trip when I come to Scotland next time. My order came so beautifully wrapped and with a lovely note. Will definitely be browsing for more treasures.
I love this shop. It is full of gorgeous clothes and accessories and much more. The staff are all so helpful and friendly and go out of their way to be nice. There is a great pre loved section too. If you like a vintage style, this shop is a treat. I love coming to visit, I love everything about it. 🥰
Found this store through Etsy when searching for a gift for my friend, and ended up placing an order through their online store. The products are absolutely stunning, lots of clear information and photos of each item from all angles that made me feel super comfortable & confident ordering from them; also really loved all the information about the shop and how it came to be available on their website, as it painted a really lovely picture of the store & the people behind it. The order was shipped super quickly, and I had messaged to ask that no pricing details where included in the parcel as it was a gift, and they really went above and beyond, wrapping the parcel so nicely and including a pretty note on a postcard with a birthday message on! I’m really really grateful to Lisa, and the effort they put into this, going above and beyond, and I love that they took the time to do this and send me photos of the parcel so I could see how it would be arriving for my friend. It can be a little daunting ordering a gift online and having it sent directly to the receiver, but they made it such a lovely and enjoyable experience and I will definitely be returning in the future for more orders ~ and hopefully getting to visit in person some day! such a gorgeous store <3

Gorgeous little shop. Twice we've been for a long muddy dog walk in Falkland and twice we've been here for a coffee afterwards. The owner is very friendly and welcoming, even to wet dogs - I can't believe she let us come in with him today, so kind 🥰 And I would gladly buy pretty much everything in the gorgeous shop.
Wonderful wee gift shop! Was visiting Falkland Palace and they were open early so stopped in. Great selection of gifts! Definitely worth a visit!
Lovely place with wonderful items. The lady was so kind! I purchased a crocheted thistle, such a lovely memory from my trip.
A friendly welcome at this gift shop with a nice variety of fair trade goods, items of furniture, knitted hats, scarves, candles, cards & a selection of arts & crafts from local sources. Super coffee ☕ & biscuits / treats, you can sit inside or outside both overlooking the main square.
Lovely little shop with lots of quirky stuff. Had a chat with friendly lady at the counter, she gave me a coffee for free thank you :)
Beautiful shopping experience. Truly magical. My daughter said, "is it Christmas!" Beautiful range of craft and in particular, felt items. Lots of art work, pottery and something for everyone. Very handy coffee bar as well.
A visit to Falkland would be incomplete without popping in and buying a wee blue vase badge!! Featuring in Outlander as Farrell's shop, it is here Claire gazes in and contemplates how different her life would be if she had bought the vase. On chilly days pop in and grab a coffee or tea while you explore the rest of Falkland or sit at the window and watch the world go by. With so many beautiful things there is very little chance you will leave empty handed!
Drawn in by coffee and outside seating. Clean store, well presented albeit a little cluttered but therein lies the charm. A smattering of flapjacks, some designer chocolate and a good cuppa, we were left a little wanting but overall very pleasant.
