What a wonderful little museum! Full of unexpected delights such as original "cars" modified and driven by the Top Gear team. Also plenty of other classic exhibits ranging from an Austin 1100 to a William Hay and Sons lemonade lorry. If you're in Alford, pay a visit, you won't regret it
Had a great couple of hours looking around the museum. We especially enjoyed viewing the Top Gear and Guy Martin exhibitions - Guy's world record bicycle and the crazy (smashed up) go kart are particular highlights. There's a lovely cafe with a good selection of gluten free lunches. It's all dog friendly and the staff were super friendly, even giving the dogs a gravy bone on arrival. It's well worth the fee to enter.
This is a lovely old school museum. Incredibly friendly staff, plenty to see and the Top Gear exhibition is well worth the lengthy drive from almost anywhere else in the country! It's totally accessible and set in a lovely part of the world. Gift shop and cafe are great and well priced too.
My partner and I visited the Grampian transport museum and was thoroughly impressed by its excellent presentation. It's a must see attraction for any car enthusiast, Top Gear or Guy Martin fan. It almost goes without saying but it's the Top Gear cars that brought me to the museum. I had only found out about it just days prior to my trip when Drivetribe (a popular YouTube channel) had released a video on the indestructible Toyota Hilux that Grampian are now the proud owners of. However, it doesn't stop at just the Hilux, they own many of the iconic TV cars such as the Rambulance, the P45 and even the amphibious vehicles that the legendary trio of Clarkson, Hammond and May tried crossing the English Channel in. Explaining the history of each vehicle was a passionate volunteer Finlay McHardy who really made the day for us. Listening to him talk about the episodes each vehicle was featured in and sharing knowledge not found on the information boards. He even shared some details about what the future may hold for the vehicles... Meaning, if you're thinking they might try and start the Hilux. You may be right. The team at Grampian are sent on courses and trained to try and preserve the exhibits they have on display. The Hilux being no exception. If the pickup truck does indeed still run after time has been added to the concoction of death it's had to endure then it'll be because of the amazing team at Grampian and not the Smallest Cog as many suspect. Moving away from the Top Gear exhibit the museum also features trams, bikes in both push and motorised varieties as well as historic 'transportation of the future' such as the Sinclair C5 a vehicle that I believe was ahead of its time. The museum really is a treasure trove of information with the sheer diversity it has to offer and with plenty to read for those that wish to do so. It's very clear a lot of care has gone into making the exhibits as enjoyable and informative as possible. If all of this sounds tiring or perhaps you're not as passionate as a partner, child or any other acquaintance that you may be travelling with is. Then not to worry there is a lovely café located inside the museum called Motorbites which I feel is a worthy pun. It offers a great range of food and drink at what I found to be a very reasonable price, making it the perfect spot for lunch or just a break! The only negative I can draw from my visit is the behaviour of a school group. The children seemed to treat the museum like a playground, running around without much supervision or respect for the exhibits. While this didn't entirely detract from my experience, it was a minor disruption. However, this is not Grampian's fault and more so the lack of supervision from the responsible adults of the school trip. Overall I had a great time. So much so that if you look hard enough you may find my name, Finlay's name or many others dotted around the exhibits as the museum offer a vehicle adoption scheme for a one of fee of £25. This goes towards running the museum and the upkeep of the exhibits as Grampian is owned and operated by a registered charity of which I was more than happy to support. So on that bombshell, it's a 5/5 from me
As someone who has watched endless Topgear, it was great to see some of the special episode cars here. The staff were all friendly, small cafe on side. Would recommend. Slight inconvenience we turned up at 3:30pm and were told they shut at 4pm despite it saying 5pm on the website. Came back in the morning though
Delightful small museum which I’ve visited several times over the years but never taken my granddaughter so decided to go yesterday & support local. Some new items since last time there. Top gear really good as you remember it from seeing it on tv & good to see their creations in real life. Sadly what let’s the place down is the cafe as my granddaughter wanted the kids lunch box which is a sandwich, juice, etc. they couldn’t do a tuna sandwich at 2.12pm ?? However said we could have egg /bacon? how difficult would it have been to make a wee tuna sandwich ?? So we didn’t have lunch. I mentioned this at desk on way out as a suggestion to do sandwiches at any time of the day but he didn’t seem very interested to hear what I had to say. Outdoor play area is disappointing- not kept well not clean. They used to have a super bit for kids to go round small circuit in cars in the play area but that’s not there anymore. So all in all they happy to charge £27 for 2 adults 1 child but clearly doesn’t go into maintaining the kids area.
The visit was great, there was lots to see while the top gear exhibit was on, it was like meeting my childhood heros 🤣
Great museum with information boards across all different cars, bikes and carriages. The top gear cars are brilliant for anyone who is a fan.

We spent around an hour exploring the magnificent ruins of Kildrummy Castle. Google Maps takes you to the wrong entrance if you click the castle itself. I've added the car park location. The info boards are great here and there are a couple of picnic benches around the back of the castle if you need a rest. The Snow Tower must've been beautiful in it's day. A great day out
Kildrummy castle is steeped in history and for all is now a ruin it is well worth a visit..there is ample parking along with toilets and a very well stocked shop ....the route to the castle is via the shop and it is a short walk via a gravel path this is wheelchair friendly for all the castle itself isn't...the castles ruins are wonderful and very well preserved the grass areas are well maintained I highly recommend Kildrummy castle when visiting in the area the views are quite spectacular 10/10
Drifting through the back roads of the Scottish countryside, we arrived at Kildrummy Castle, sitting up on a hill with an amazingly quiet view. The ruins were much like other castles, but the Scotland Historical Society has maintained this fairly well. In fact, when we got there, we didn't realize this was a "pay to visit" site, I guess we just forgot that we have the Historic Explorer pass and would have gotten in for no additional charge anyway. We arrived just as the employees were heading out in their cars, but they were very nice and said they would let us in to explore if we would do them a favor and lock up the parking gate as we pulled out. Basically we had the whole place to ourselves, but I imagine this one isn't super busy all the time anyway, as it's not amazingly convenient to get to. The walls and framed windows sent our imaginations off, and the signs posted around the grounds helped us fill in the historical blanks. Once again, this castle had ties to the Wars of Independence with Robert the Bruce's sister this time, as well as the Jacobite uprisings, and the few stories that were posted were wonderfully informative and exciting to read. The green countryside and trees that surrounded it made us feel like we were in a fairy tale once more.
This building appears to have been massive and a status symbol when at its prime. The booklet gives good information. Very friendly, informative staff.
Surprisingly amazing ruins of what was a massive castle for various Countess's of Mar and other successful invaders. A large number of features can still be seen and imagined through artist impressions on the usual excellent Historic Scotland information boards set up around the site. We had our 10 and 12 year old with us who loved running about the ruins and reading the history. There is a car park with inclined walk to castle but it is a smooth path if walking is difficult for you. Highly recommend an visit along with its wee sister at Corgarff Castle.
Loved this castle big and still alot there. Amazing
Great place to visit steeped in history. Super info boards all around explaining what everything is. I went and the ticket office was closed so entry was free, 7.50 per person seems a bit steep if I was being honest.
The ruins of this castle are huge, I just wished I could have seen it in all its complete glory, it must have been spectacular! Worth the visit if you love castles!

Didn't know it existed until we headed to a craft fair in Alford. It was brilliant lots if things to see from the past & war time Very interesting worth a visit.
Amazing place, so much history and So many things to see. We came to town for the railway and transport museum not even knowing about this place until we arrived. It turned out we spent much longer here than in the transport museum. We loved it. Staff wonderful and friendly too. Would highly recommend.
What a gem of a museum. The staff are very friendly and helpful. In the picture, one of the volunteers shows our group of retired seafarers the insides of a working jukebox! We spent 2 hours there and there are many and varied exhibits there - some you wouldn’t expect like a working model train layout. Highly recommended.
Amazing museum depicting rural life in days gone by. It is based at the Old Mart giving it that authentic feel. Great displays. Well worth a visit for all the family.
What a wonderful little museum spent an hour here so many things to see went around saying I had one of those when I was little the volunteers were really helpful and friendly. This museum is wheelchair accessible even though some of the doorways were a bit tight.
It was amazing very nice people to talk to and I will be going back to study more
Absolutely loved this but not as much as my 90 year old father did really made his birthday day out..
What an amazing place! So much to see and so interesting! Kids can do a 'Find a....' quiz and there are small individual rooms with artifacts and working models too! Great for a day out!

We took part in the Santa express experience. It was brilliant. Really lovely people and a really lovely experience. Carol singing on the train before back for a mince pie and a cup of tea. They had even catered for gluten free. My son, 7, loved his visit to Santa and was delighted with his present. Thanks so much
The Alford Valley Community Railway is absolutely fantastic. Main station has undergone alot of work inside and out to bring it up to the 21st century, still some old skool items to be viewed though. Trains will run from The Alford Railway station along the track , passing through the local golf course and then onto Haughton Park where you can get off and explore the park beautifully kept park. Remember and listen for the trains whistle if your returning to the station if you've got off. Always an exciting run to catch it..... Keep an eye on Facebook or the AVCR website for operating days . Have a blast folks
Great little train for the kids my daughter loved it staff very friendly and great wee train ride to haughton country park
Fun train ride through the park, great for kids.
I absolutely loved it here the train cuts across the golf course and the golfers are so friendly it's only a short walk from the transport museum
It isn’t a steam but a diesel engine train. A joy ride that goes through a golf course not very long but just a 15 min ride. Kids will love it, especially the whistling off sound like a steam trumpet. But tickets on site or online. Free car park opposite station recently renovated.
Volunteering at its best. This railway has newly reopened to the public after many hours of enthusiastic volunteering time. The station building has been beautifully refurbished. This is where to go to pay for your trip and speak to a person if you need to. Car parking isn't a problem. Take a round trip, and if you have some time, get off in Haughton Park before catching a return train. The park has super play parks for the kiddies and has a variety of walks for everyone. There is a Holiday Park located in there too, and they have a shop that sells a variety of snacks if necessary 😀 Alford is a great place to visit. ❤️
Loverly quaint railway running to and from the park, all run by voleenters.

We were there for a kid's birthday party, the staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring we all had a good time.
Went with Cummings Park Community Centre trip it was great kids loved it as did some of the adults nice clean kitchen dining room & toilets plus the sun shone all day x
Loved it, nice place to visit for tubing. Good and big parking for cars.🚗🚗 Friendly stuff, good service, place is not crowded with people .💠 Prices are good, 1 hour is enogh for this event, you get tired very fast. 😁 The speed is great to adults and fun to go with kids for tubing, there are also area for a smaller kids to ride.😺 There os also an option to ski, with all the necessary equipment and safety. Near is also a playground park with seesaw, place for skate.😻 Recomend to visit if you are in Alford.💯
Had my sons birthday party here. The tubing part was really good and fun! But the party room (if you can call it that) was pathetic. There is also such a fast turn over that its uncomfortable. While we were in the party room the other party was already turning up. They were tubing while we were in the party room. It made myself feel pushed and rushed as they kept looking in the room so we had to shut the door. We had to hoover the room ourselves for the next party which I found odd as never had to clean a place for someone else's party, usually staff would do it. It was just not a fun experience in the party room with how fast their turnover is and Made myself feel very rushed. Will NOT be doing another party here.
Great change for the kids tubing
Took my son tubing here for a friend's birthday party. It was the best fun we have had in a while. Really friendly staff. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Great day at at daughters birthday party Staff count not have more friendly and helpful. Great instructor very funny and amazing with the kids. Went out of his way knowing it was my daughters birthday, she absolutely loved it. Highly recommended
My granddaughter attended a Tubing Birthday party . Staff were great with the kids but we could have done with more staff on the slop, hiwever, but parents helped out. It was great fun. The party room is a big function space with a small kitchen area

Such a beautiful wee shop, right in the heart of beautiful Alford 😍 My daughter and I had a lovely time browsing and buying - there's something for everyone, and a very warm welcome was received. Just lovely!
What a rare gem of a shop. Went in for a nosy while waiting for the chemist to open. Jodie is just lovely and the crafts by various local artists well worth a look. Great if looking to find gifts for those hard to buy for people we all know. Return visit will be very soon.
A wonderful selection of art and treasures. Well worth the visit.
This shop is amazing!! Jodie, the owner of the shop, provides excellent customer service. It's a really lovely shop to visit and everything on the shelves is beautiful. I once done my whole Christmas shop from here, there is something for everyone 💜
A lovely, cosy art studio offering a variety of pieces for various artists. Prices are cheaper than I expected, meaning you will be able to buy a little treat for yourself to remember the occasion. Staff are very polite and friendly. Card payments are accepted.
Jodie who owns Everlong Art Studio and Gift Shop is very friendly and will go out of her way to provide an excellent service for her customers. The shop itself is unique, selling art work and crafted items from local talented artists and creators. There are gifts in the shop for all sorts of people, from framed art to dream catchers and beautifully scented candles which are all created within Aberdeenshire.
