I went in autumn, and the views were really beautiful. The leaves were colorful and the massive river boulders were impressive. While walking, you could read information about certain rock formations and local history. There were boardwalks and stairs, so the trail was very easy.
Oni no Shitaburui gorge is the second gorge I have ever been to in Japan. I was really impressed with the scenery, the bridge, the river, also the rocks there. This is the perfect place if you want to relax and see the breathtaking scenery between gorge and autumn in Japan. Really recommended enjoying tea time there <3
excellent nature view but be careful of slippy road
Stunning and well equipped. Recommended!
The shorter route is not difficult to go with kids as well. It's beautiful

There was a relatively large free parking lot at the entrance to the gorge. It was my first time visiting, and the gorge was amazing. There are several trails, but if you use the barrier-free walking path you can stroll comfortably without any large steps or stairs. Next time I'd like to take my time and explore the gorge course as well. It's a large loop bridge with roads overlapping in multiple layers, making it a dynamic road that makes the most of the mountain terrain. Driving across it was a fun experience, as you felt the sensation of going up and down in altitude. It's surrounded by deep mountains. I can imagine the views must be spectacular in the seasons of fresh greenery and autumn leaves. Parking in the parking space and looking at the bridge, you can clearly see the overlapping roads in three dimensions, and you'll be amazed at its sheer scale. It's not just a road, but a tourist spot worth seeing as well. Only here can you experience the scenery where Okuizumo's nature and human technology blend together. There are two places to take photos: looking up from the shelter below the bridge, or taking pictures of the bridge crossing the sky from the roadside station above. However, although it is a tourist spot and is marked on guide signs and has an observation deck, the loop bridge is so impressive that you can't see the whole view, so it's more of a tourist spot for the memories of riding across the loop bridge, and it didn't really feel like a place to get off and enjoy something. I visited the museum as part of an Okuizumo tour. The most interesting exhibits are the bellows used in making iron. You can try them out! There are demonstrations for sword making and sword fighting. You can volunteer to stoke the fire and hammer the metal. You can hold real katanas too.
Interesting display with Google translate helped with. We went there to buy a kitchen knife for my son-in-law and we were successful!
If somebody needs to get understanding about Japanese Tatara steel making process,,,, this is the best place in Okuizumo area in Matsue.

About twice a month, visitors can observe the forging process at the forge, and it was amazing to be able to see the actual work up close. Although they did not sell swords, they did sell knives made from tamahagane, as well as the tamahagane itself before it is used to make swords. Tamahagane is extremely rare, and recently, due to the influence of anime, it seems to sell out quickly. (Translated by Google) [The soul of Japanese "iron" inherited in Okuizumo] Visiting the Okuizumo Tatara and Sword Museum was a valuable experience to learn how advanced the traditional Japanese iron-making technique "tatara iron-making" is and how it is still being passed down today. I was surprised and even moved to learn that this ancient technique remains indispensable to modern swordsmiths. Tatara iron-making is a unique Japanese iron-making method that uses iron sand and charcoal to make iron. At this museum, I learned that this technique is not just a craft or historical heritage, but is an "active technique" that is still in use today. For those who are learning for the first time, it may be shocking to know that most of the "tamahagane" (steel) used in Japanese swords and traditional crafts is born from the tatara in Okuizumo. The fact that the tatara iron made in this region is essential to the production of high-quality swords is clearly conveyed through the exhibits, videos, and actual materials. Inside the museum, you can see a model that recreates the structure and process of tatara ironmaking, as well as precious footage of actual operations. Through these, you can see how ancient ironmaking was made possible by human wisdom and effort, and coexistence with nature. In particular, the story that the success or failure of tatara ironmaking depended heavily on the judgment of the operation manager, called "murage," shows how important it was not only to pass on techniques, but also to people's senses and experiences. The sword exhibit was also overwhelming. I was reminded that Japanese swords are not just weapons, but also works of art and symbols of spiritual culture. The skill and heart of the craftsman that goes into each and every sword, and the materials that support them - it is deeply meaningful that the source of these materials is right here in Okuizumo. This is a wonderful facility where you can learn about history while also experiencing the essence of craftsmanship that is relevant to the present day. It is also a very valuable tourist spot, and I would especially recommend it to those who are interested in craftsmanship and history. Come experience the soul and skill that goes into Japanese "iron" at this museum nestled in the nature of Okuizumo.

Soothe your soul with the autumn leaves and the sound of the waterfall It can be said that it is miraculous that there are so many first-class buildings and highly artistic Japanese gardens deep in the mountains of Izumo. This alone shows that tatara iron manufacturing was an important industry that supported the nation. From the many exhibits on display, you can see the prosperity of the Sakurai family, which was rich in tatara iron manufacturing. By the way, the Sakurai family was originally a vassal of Takeda Shingen, but after the fall of the Takeda family, they moved to the Fukushima family, then the Asano family, and then settled in their current location and started a steel manufacturing business. I think it's worth seeing at any time of the year, but you should visit from early to mid-November when the autumn leaves are especially beautiful. When I drove to the site from the Matsue area, I was surprised to see such a magnificent mansion suddenly appear in the mountains of Okuizumo, far from the city center. Personally, I was interested in the fact that our family is related to a famous military commander who was famous during the Sengoku period. When I looked into it, I learned that the general was unfortunately killed in a major battle, and that his family later moved to this area after running a steel manufacturing business in Kabe, Hiroshima. However, when I came to Okuizumo, I felt a sense of romance and connection to the history of the time when Japan was moving. His skills as an ironsmith were also reliable, and the quality of his iron was highly praised throughout the country. The mansion, garden, and museum were nice, but the view of the mountain range to the west from the garden of the mansion had a majestic feel and was wonderful. What does it look like during the winter snow season?

Very beautiful! Worth the trip, and the temple is open and active for all the visitors to enjoy.
Beautiful!! The natural carpet with yellow leaves is a sight to behold
(Translated by Google) After eating soba noodles at Kamedake on November 17th, I went to see the giant ginkgo tree. Although it was raining, there seemed to be no shortage of visitors. I was able to park my car right away in a nearby free parking lot. The ginkgo trees were shedding their leaves, and the thatched roof and ground were dyed yellow, making it very beautiful. It looked like all the leaves would fall off soon, so I'm glad I got there in time.
(Translated by Google) Visited on November 23, 2024 I went to worship hoping I could still see it, but most of it had scattered and only a few remained. The leaves falling on the roof and the pine trees created an indescribable atmosphere, and I thought it was a good thing to see. It seems difficult to clean up though If I have a chance, I will visit again.
(Translated by Google) I was able to visit this year as well✨ The 723-year-old giant ginkgo tree is wonderful, and you can feel the splendor and strength of the breath of life. This year, I was also able to receive a new title. I did. The best time to see them is in early November. When I went to see them on October 27, 2023, there was a mixture of yellow and green leaves. When I visited again on 2023.11.2, it was in full yellow 🟡 bloom✨😮 When I visited on 2024.11.13, the thatched roof had been newly installed and the temple had become splendid. In addition, a special Goshuin stamp was awarded to commemorate the thatched roof. When I visited, the elderly staff member told me that the ginkgo trees would be at their best during this week. When I purchased a new goshuin book for Kongonji Temple. I also received a goshuin bag. I was grateful. I love the homey feel of this temple. I'm thinking of visiting again next year. (Translated by Google) Revisited on 15/11/2024. This year, I was able to come right in the middle of the autumn leaves. It's at its peak now. A certain day on 11/11/2023. Apparently the leaves were blown off by the strong winds last night. There is a parking lot right next to the tree, but it costs 500 yen. The last 50 meters or so of the road are narrow and it is difficult to pass other vehicles, so it may be better to use the free parking lot about 3 minutes walk away. Especially for large vehicles. This is a magnificent large ginkgo tree. The area around the tree is well maintained. I am grateful for the efforts of the local people. I would like to come and see it again next year. (Translated by Google) On November 4th (2022), about half of the leaves had fallen, but the color was a vibrant yellow, and I was able to see it at its best, with the ground also turning yellow from the fallen leaves. Last year, they were still green, so it was quite moving. I went on October 30th (2021), but it was still green, which was a shame. Normally, the leaves turn yellow, and locals set up food stalls. But it's a huge ginkgo tree with a strong presence. I'd like to come again. There was a local security guard at the parking lot, but he was directing people aimlessly, so it was a little difficult to find. (Translated by Google) At an altitude of 1143m, it is also known as Torihair Peak. It is said that this is the mountain where the eight-pronged serpent that was defeated by Susanoo no Mikoto lived. The Torikami Falls route takes 45 to 60 minutes from the trailhead to the summit. The mountain trail is well-maintained and there are no steep climbs, making it easy to climb as it mainly consists of gentle slopes and stairs. There aren't any great sights to see during the climb, just Torigami Falls, which flows along the way, and you can't see any scenery as you climb through the forest to the top. At the top of the mountain is a plaza called Tengu's Dohyoba, with a large 360° panoramic view and a monument to Ama no Murakumo. If the weather is good, you can see Mt. Daisen and Mt. Sanbe clearly. It is a mountain that is easy to climb even for beginners and allows you to enjoy the open summit with a simple climb. As you climb along the Hii River, the river and the mountain trail intersect several times. If it rained heavily the day before, water would flow onto the road. It's not enough to get your feet wet, but it's easy to get muddy. Light mountain climbing clothing and shoes are recommended. I don't think you need to be prepared, but I don't recommend wearing casual clothes or sneakers as it can lead to fatigue and injury. Parking available. You can park near the trailhead. There are no restrooms at the base, but in a hut at the top of the mountain. Funadori, I saw a beautiful snow-covered mountain near Torigami Elementary School, so I took a photo of it. On April 19th, I went up to see the Katakuri flowers. This year I went to the Kameishi course for the first time. The sound of the flowing water in the stream was soothing, and the beech forest was starting to bud softly in some areas, making it very beautiful. The stairs were tougher than the Torigami course, but by the time I reached the junction and saw a cluster of Japanese anthracite, the fatigue was gone in an instant. I arrived a day later than last year, but it felt like it was already in full bloom or a little past. At the top, there were mounds of soil dug up by moles here and there. I think there were a lot fewer flowers compared to last year. We were blessed with clear skies and the 360 degree view was truly spectacular. After descending the mountain, I took a refreshing dip in the hot springs at Tamamine Sanso. Meanwhile, a colleague at work was just talking about the Katakuri on Mt. Funatsu, so I decided to take the opportunity to climb it and see it. I climbed from the Torigami Falls course and descended from the Kameishi course, and it felt very nice to go up and down along the refreshing clear stream. The katakuri was a little late in the season, and it looked like it was starting to wither, but I was still able to see it for the first time, and I was impressed to see so many of them blooming near the top of the mountain. We were blessed with very good weather that day, and we were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery at the top of the mountain. I could see Mt. Daisen and Mt. Sanbe in the distance, the cityscape of Yokota below, and the mountains of the Shimane Peninsula and Hiroshima in the distance. I think I understand why ancient people made this a sacred place. The trail runs along the river from the entrance to Torikami Falls, about the sixth station?, and there are places where you have to walk across. The wet rocks are quite slippery. You can climb slowly while listening to the murmuring of the river. The summit offers a 360° panorama, with views of Mt. Oyama and Mt. Sanbe. There is also a shelter, which can be used except in the winter season. (I believe it is prohibited to use from December to March, so don't count on it if you are climbing in the winter.) The slope and distance are not too steep, so even middle-school children should be able to climb it, but since the trail runs along the river, it may be better to cancel the climb if there is heavy rain or the weather the day before. There is the Kameishi course, which has a trailhead just after turning left from Hinoue-so, and the Torigami Falls course, which has a trailhead just straight ahead. Even if you go by car, you can often climb the Torigami Falls course, which has a trailhead close to the mountain. It's an affordable mountain for me, as I can get there in just over an hour from my house and climb it in less than an hour and a half.
