Basque Cider house serving traditional set menus, go for the Txotx option and try out the cider catching for yourself. Staff were friendly and speak English, the staff member at the cider barrels remembers which barrels you’ve tried and will tap a new one for you to sample on your return. We somehow spent 3 hours for lunch here.
The highlight of our trip to San Sebastian was a visit to the Cider House. The Petritegi Sagardotegia-Bodega is a unique and special place. We enjoyed drinking cider straight from the barrel. You wait to hear someone yell out “Txotx!”, and then you head into the barrel room with an empty glass and get in the line created in front of the barrel. The dishes are the following menus: • Salt cod omelette • Chorizo • T-bone steak • Idiazabal cheese, quince jelly, walnuts • bread and cigarrillos y tejas All our dishes were delicious. Prices were just right, and portions were very good. The staff was awesome and attentive. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great and we had an unforgettable time. Highly recommend!
This place has a unique experience of the original cider brewing if you are into Cider. The food was pretty good, except for the meat which was the reason we went there. Although it is famous of its meat, we were very disapointed with the quality. The meat was chewy and had almost no flavor. If anyone tried the famous Florence meat, then you know what I am talking about. However, the fish was pretty good.
We did the cider tour and it was interesting to learn about how the family owned business has evolved & grown over the years. The ciders were tasty and the apple juice was surprisingly good. We also had lunch at the restaurant and everything was delicious. Highly recommend this location even if cider isn’t your thing, we had a good overall experience!!
The place has a great atmosphere and definitely one to not miss when in Donostia The cod omelette is an absolute banger. That being said, the steak was served very rare which seems to be how it’s cooked here. The waitress was very kind and asked if we wanted it to be cooked longer. However it took another 20 mins before we got our steak back and the meat was tough. There was only 1 waitress for an entire room of customers and service was slow and hard to grab her attention. Not her fault at all - she was lovely, just overworked. Bonus for additional cider you can pour ! The cider is sour and definitely an interesting experience overall
This amazing local and artisanal cider producer offers a truly unique experience, allowing you to enjoy their exquisite cider straight from a massive 14,000-liter barrel. It's an unparalleled opportunity to taste the freshness and quality directly from the source, making each sip a memorable one. Their menu, while refreshingly simple, is absolutely delicious and expertly curated. Highlights include perfectly cooked hake, a succulent T-bone steak that's sure to satisfy any meat lover, and a selection of great local cheeses for dessert that provide a delightful conclusion to your meal. Every dish celebrates local flavors and high-quality ingredients. Despite being a bit off the beaten path, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. It's the ideal destination to experience true local cuisine, prepared with passion and served with exceptional customer service that makes you feel genuinely welcomed. The journey there is well worth it for an authentic taste of the region's culinary delights and a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Highlight of the trip, came recommended by our airbnb hosts (local tip) as something you must do. You get a 4 course meal with all you can drink cider. Cider brised chorizo, cod omlette, hake, steak, cheese and quince. Basque Cider is sweeter and flatter than English cider so its beautifully paired with the showstopping salty steak. The cider is served from another room, lined with barrels, they turn on the tap and the cider streams out and you have to catch it in your glass. It is out of town so you will need to take a taxi/drive.
We booked at 1300 for lunch and ordered short Cider House Menu for 2. Size was perfect!!!( otherwise we couldn’t eat pinchos the night ) We can access to the barrel with the cellar man and drink. It’s fun! Our server was so nice and friendly, too!

Our visit to the cidery left us with nothing but positive impressions! If you're in the area, we highly recommend stopping by. Booking a tour through the website was very easy. The guide who showed us around was incredibly enthusiastic, and you could tell she truly loves what she does and enjoys sharing her knowledge. We learned a lot of interesting facts about cider production, its history, and local traditions. The tasting experience was a real highlight — fun, engaging, and unique. And the cider itself was absolutely delicious! We happily bought a couple of cases to take home. Thanks for such an unforgettable experience! 🍎❤️
Nice experience visiting this place- the tour guide was super lovely and still did the tour with enthusiasm even though it was just me doing it. I learned a lot and found it interesting. Great value for 5€
Brilliant place and brilliant enthusiastic guide who was kind and patient enough to perform the tour in Spanish AND English for our benefit. It was much appreciated, and the cider tasting at the end was great fun. Great recommendation for a local cider house at the end too, where we had the best meal of our trip (which is saying something in the Basque Country). TXOTX!
Fun tour that introduces the local cider tradition of the Basques. Interactive portions of the tour lets you try out picking apples and mashing apples. Our guide spoke English well and was very enthusiastic. It ends with a tasting of the local cider as well and a practical lesson in Txotx and catching of the cider from the barrel.
We were lucky enough to be the only 2 people visiting at the time, and were treated to a fantastic tour by Ainize! She clearly comes from an Apple farming background, and is full of expression and humor. She taught us a ton, answered all of our questions and was a delight to talk with. This is a must-do museum! TXOTX!
Great tour with interesting local history at an affordable price. Cider was very nice. Tour available in multiple languages
Excellent location, really interesting tour! The tasting being included made it great value.
Can’t speak of this place highly enough. Did a tour and tasting, got a great insight into how cider is made and the history/culture that surround it. Definitely worth a visit / before heading to a cider house. Staff were super friendly, knowledgeable and easy to talk to.
