Takikawa Roadside Station is one of the standout roadside stations in Hokkaido, offering a delightful mix of convenience and local charm. It’s a popular stop for participants of the Hokkaido stamp rally, making it a perfect destination for travelers exploring the island. Our visit coincided with the Takikawa Nanohana Festival, one of the city’s most celebrated events, and it was a truly memorable experience. The station was alive with the energy of the festival, with numerous stalls lining the area, offering a wide variety of local goods, food, and souvenirs. The vibrant crowd and festive decorations added to the cheerful atmosphere, making it a fantastic place to soak in the local culture. Whether you’re a foodie or a shopaholic, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. One of the highlights of our visit was trying the nanohana soft cream, a unique and delicious treat that perfectly embodied the essence of the festival. Its subtle, creamy flavor with a hint of sweetness made it an absolute delight on a warm day. This local specialty is a must-try for anyone visiting during the festival. The roadside station also serves as a great rest stop, with clean facilities and ample parking space, making it convenient for families and road trippers alike. Beyond its practicality, it offers a glimpse into Takikawa’s local charm and serves as an excellent hub for exploring the area.
Gotta try the milk soft cream here... Super creamy super Hokkaido milky. From Nordic farm. 350JPY. So good we drove away and came right back for a second one....
Delicious Worthy Cheese tart is very delicious
Great selection of goods, not only from the local area and Hokkaido, but also from as far as Okinawa. Their "one-coin" lunches are great too! Stop here for lunch and all your omiyage (souvenir) needs. It's a one-stop shop. Their prices are pretty reasonable too. 4 huge Sun Fuji apples for 400 yen? I haven't seen them go so cheap anywhere else.
We had baked fish with boiled rice. It was delicious.
there is a special bus service that go to canola field here.

I was nervous at first, but once I was flying, the scenery was amazing and exhilarating, and it was a different experience from flying. The pilot was a good talker and it was fun. It was a quick flight, but I think it will be one of my memories! ! ! There were also exhibits related to gliders in the museum. I also did a trial flight. It takes about 10 minutes, but it is a sightseeing flight that goes around the town of Takikawa. I could see the swans that had just arrived flying in a V-shape below, and that National Route 12, the longest straight road in Japan, was straight all the way to the horizon. While I was flying, I heard that the engineless glider was flying to Lake Akan and coming back. It seems that gliders can fly farther than I expected. Since there was no engine, I was soothed by the soothing sound of the wind and the view from the sky on a sunny day. This shrine is famous for cute smiling 狛犬(kind of guardian dogs?) . It's not a big shrine but atmosphere was peaceful. I loved this shrine!
(Translated by Google) 2024.10.15 I wanted to meet the smiling guardian dogs, so I visited them♪ They were really smiling, and when I saw them, I naturally smiled, and I understood that they were ``bringing good luck''! When I received the goshuin, I was told that guardian dogs usually don't have a gender, but these were girls and boys (there were also gender symbols), and that the girl who was smiling had her back arched like a woman! He will be 114 years old this year, and on days when the weather is bad, he will be given an umbrella to cover him, and I feel that he is very well taken care of ^ - ^ (Original) 2024.10.15笑う狛犬さん達に逢いたくて訪ねてみました♪ 本当に笑っていて、見ていて自然と笑顔になりますし〝福を呼ぶ〟というのが理解できました!

(Translated by Google) (Visited on October 26, 2020) This is my third visit to Ebe Otsu Shrine in three years. Last time, it was raining lightly, so I remembered that I impulsively went to visit the shrine to see the umbrella dog. Pass through the torii gate in front of the shrine (this is Ichi-no-torii, right?) and proceed along Omotesando. I continued on to the shrine and prayed. Then, look at the guardian dogs on the side of the side approach. This guardian dog is famous and popular as a laughing guardian dog. You have a nice smile today too. And the boy symbol is also energetic. Then I went to the shrine office and asked for a goshuin, and the chief priest who was working in front of the shrine office took care of it for me. While I was writing this, my wife explained about guardian dogs. During the session, I was encouraged to look up at the boy's guardian dog's crotch from below. After receiving the goshuin, I went to see the guardian dogs again. As I was told, I looked up and...oh my gosh (lol). This could not be seen from the front. On the other hand, the girl's guardian dog has a discreet Y on her crotch, but it seems that they were not able to pursue realism. I left Ebe Otsu Shrine with a grin on my face, feeling a bit strange. This is truly a precious shrine, and the adorable welcome from the dogs warmed my heart. As we walked towards Ebe Otsu Shrine, we were surrounded by a quiet sacred atmosphere and the beauty of nature. The natural greenery under my feet and the refreshing breeze calmed my mind. The moment I passed through the gates of the shrine, a group of laughing dogs caught my eye. I couldn't help but smile at that adorable smile. Personally, Ebe Otsu Shrine is a wonderful place, and the time I spent here was memorable. It is a truly special place where nature and mystery coexist, and the smiles of the dogs bring healing and happiness to those who visit. Very interesting creatures on display but it was kinda short
Ok for a short visit as nothing much to see. Good for children but not recommended for tourists if you are in a hurry
(Translated by Google) First of all, this is a museum that will be very exciting for dinosaur lovers. After entering and passing through a hallway with Earth history panels pasted on it, I was thrilled to see a fossil exhibition space that looked like the final scene of Jurassic Park. The famous Tyrannosaurus rex, the mammoth, the Takikawa sea cow that has been promoted a lot in Takigawa, the Protoceratops holding its eggs, the big horned deer, and so on, all of a sudden, there was a parade of ancient creatures, and it was a romantic explosion. A little higher up is a hominin and a pteranodon. There was also a full-size panel, and I was moved to think that such gigantic flying creatures were flying around in the ancient skies. There was no Quetzalcoatlus yet, but I wonder if that's because it hadn't been discovered when this museum was established? Some of the explanations are old, but it still feels like history. Like the Children's Science Museum next door, this building is barrier-free with no stairs and slopes, so anyone can tour with peace of mind. Near the passageway leading to the Children's Science Museum, there is also an exhibit corner related to Asa Kuroyanagi, also known as Chocchan, who was featured in a morning drama, so be sure to check that out as well. When I visited on July 24, 2022, an exhibition corner about the oil industry that once existed in Takikawa, ``Yekiwotsukuru,'' was being held, and I was somewhat moved by it. It is a facility that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. Especially if you're a dinosaur lover like me, it's a place you'll want to visit from time to time. A model exhibition is being held in August 2024. Especially if you like Gundam, be sure to visit.
(Translated by Google) An exhibition commemorating the 120th anniversary of Hideto Iwahashi's birth was being held from September 2, 2023 to October 15, 2023, and I visited there for that purpose. The parking lot is a little difficult to find, but it's located near the children's center, and there was plenty of space when I went there. The Museum of Fine Arts and Natural History is a complex facility that displays natural history exhibits such as fossils and skeletal specimens, probably because dinosaur fossils were discovered there, and an art museum that is probably a place for citizens to relax. The downside is that the admission fee system is complicated and difficult to understand. The Hideto Iwahashi exhibition is 500 yen for the 120th anniversary exhibition, but there is an additional fee for the permanent exhibition. The permanent exhibition also costs about 500 yen, but honestly I thought 500 yen was expensive. This is because the points are too low. Of course, works by other artists are also on display, but I wish they would have been able to show only Hideto Iwahashi's works for 500 yen. *By the way, photography inside the building was allowed. That is why I am uploading photos of the exhibited works this time* Now, although I know Hideto Iwahashi's name, I have never seen his work properly, so I was curious about his background and what kind of paintings he created. However, it was difficult to understand what they wanted to focus on in this exhibition. Although the replica of ``Dosanko Memories Scroll'' is the main exhibit, the original is at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art. When I looked it up on the internet, I wanted to know what made him want to become a Japanese painter and what he was struggling with. It seems that he started winning prizes at the Inten Exhibition before the war, but it was in 1953 that he won a quadruple of garden stones, which was exhibited at the Inten Exhibition, and since then he has become a stalwart of the Japanese art world. . This time, there were many abstract paintings from the 1950s and 1960s, as well as pastel paintings from his later years, which I thought was a good thing. What kind of influence did this abstract painting have on his later works? There are so many things I don't understand when I look at the exhibition. The masterpiece ``Hokkaido Sanko Memories Scroll'' is a high-definition printed replica, but I was strongly impressed by the beauty of the colors and the gentle warmth of the way it looks at people's lives. Perhaps he was able to draw because he grew up in a harsh environment. I thought it was a delicate and beautiful expression typical of Japanese people, which goes beyond the stylistic beauty of Japanese paintings. On the second floor of the regular exhibition area, there was also an exhibition of antique furniture that was collected by Asa Kuroyanagi, also known as Chocchan. I was reminded that it had been a long time since that essay became a bestseller, and I felt lonely as there were so few people around.
