German WW1 cemetery. The Red Barron was initially buried here but the family moved his remains to the family plot in 1925. It's well cared for but the black cross add to the sadness.

very impressive. One of the few German military cementaries from WW1. Manfred von Richthofen was buried here for a while. A very quiet place to think.

It seems that unlike the British and French soldiers who each have a space and headstone for themselves, the Germans are buried 4 men together and must share a headstone. A less dignified way of burial but understandable given the circumstances. One also notes here the numerous Jewish soldiers who served among the German ranks in this war.

Like all the Cemeteries on the Somme it's deeply moving stepping in and walking around them. Fricourt is one of two German burial sites on the Somme. Of the 17,000 burials, there are also 14 graves for Jewish soldiers, marked with a headstone instead of a cross. The Red Baron was once buried here before being moved back to Berlin and them to a family plot.

Very moving. I heard somewhere that the German markers are black, so as to signify shame. Our tour guide took us there but said that many of her tours specifically request to avoid anything to do with German cemeteries. Still very emotional 100 years later.

Nice and peaceful place to remember the fallen from all nationality. Very poignant. Remembrance ceremony held every 1st of july at the end of the afternoon.
