A marvellous fortress with a unique round shape. Very interesting, I have never seen a fortress like this before. You can climb a tower and walk on many levels. I only wish they had guided tours, so make sure you read available information online before visiting. The tickets are very cheap, €1.50 per person. The fortress is closed from Monday to Tuesday, so make sure to account for that. From the top levels you can enjoy a view of the beautiful Dniester river.
After renovation it looks much better. The fortress is well equipped with mobility infrastructure for people with disabilities so everyone is welcome to visit it. The ticket price was 30MDL per adult very affordable from my point of view. You need to follow the signs to the office where they sell the tickets because they cannot be purchased at the entrance. Other than that the Fortress has several levels which are opened for the public. Definitely worth visiting.
It’s a 5 watchtower castle. The fortress Soroca is located in the centre of Soroca city approximately 160 km north of Chisinau. The castle forms part of the old medieval chain of castle fortifications along the Dniester River. During the Turkish War of 1667-1683, the forces of John Ill - king of Poland, successfully defended the castle against the Ottomans. It is a beautiful architectural landmark with stairs, leading to the top where you can see Dniester river and the surroundings. Entry is 30 lei. Luckily it was opened few days before our visit after a 2 year renovation.
A Must-See in Moldova! Soroca Castle is an absolute gem! Perched majestically by the Dniester River, this beautifully preserved medieval fortress offers stunning views and a deep dive into Moldova’s rich history. The circular stone towers and solid walls are incredibly impressive, and the small museum inside gives great context about its strategic importance over the centuries. Whether you're a history buff or just love exploring unique places, Soroca Castle is totally worth the trip. Don’t miss the panoramic viewpoint from the ramparts—breathtaking!
Lovely historical place, worth a visit!
Beautiful fortress rebuilt in 1546 from stone after being made from wood. It survived many wars and is now watching another one in Ukraine, which its land can be seen from it across the river. It's of the the must-see of moldova.
A must visit location when you travel to/through Soroca. This historical structure has been preserved fairly well. It offers great views of the cities' surrounding areas and neighboring Ukraine across the river.
The Soroca Fortress built in 1499 has been used to garrison Moldovan troops against Turkish, and Polish invaders during medieval times. Beautiful place, and they have added historical roofs to the turrets.

The view is amazing. You can see the whole city of Soroca from this spot. But beware, you’ll have to walk up like 600 steps, and it is quite tiring. On the way to the candle, there are a few spots to stop and take a breather, also the steps are marked at each intervals of 50. Overall, if you are a tourist, i definetly recommend you to stop by the candle and enjoy the scenic view of the river Nistru and its surroundings.
Oh not for me hiking this much high. One of the most significant buildings in the history of modern Moldova. The Candle of Gratitude" rises above the waters of the Dniester river with a great view. From the river to the top of the hill 613 steps lead up to the bell tower which is a 29.5 meter long candle. This "candle", built on a rock on the outskirts of Soroca city, is towering over the river Dniester and is classified as one of the most important buildings in the history of our modern Moldova. If you are so active and healthy, then try your luck of hiking
An impressive monument from 2004 that commemorates the heroes of Moldova and the lost culture. You can reach the monument by car driving on broken roads through the villages or you can climb around 600 steps. From the monument you can see Ukraine. A must visit of Moldova in my opinion (and free entrance)
Wonderful place, wonderful view, it's worth it going down the stairs, that have 657 staircases. The Thanksgiving Candle was lit up/opened on March 27th, 2004, so it's not to old. Would recommend a lot, because it's a whole new world in Moldova, only if you'll ignore the litter.
Lovely place, peaceful and with great views!
"The architecture and concept of the monument display remarkable creativity. Furthermore, the view of the Nistru River and its surrounding landscape is simply stunning."
Oen more a must visit location in Soroca. It offers moat picturesque views in the city. You will definitely appreciate it after climbing the stares 😀. There is an ternativr way around by car.
Great view point. You can see far when the weather is clear. There are 657 steps if you decide to climb up by foot.
