Restored Renaissance palace, home to formal gardens with a maze & temporary art exhibitions.

If you come for nothing except the gardens, come. This was a stunning display of gardening for design and sustainability. Absolutely fabulous. Clearly the Château is old and requires constant upkeep. However, the art, furnishings, and gardens were just breathtaking. You can really see how people lived there. It was one of the best experiences I had touring the châteaux in France.
We went in late September and I was nervous about the gardens. I should not have been. They were incredible. The fresh cut flowers in the chateau were works if art themselves. The history was also Interesting. And the art exhibit at the end was incredible, I would have bought every piece, if I was as wealth as the people who own chateaus!
We visited four chateaux while in the Loire Valley and would rank them in the following order: Villandry, Chenonceau, Chambord, Amboise. The history of Villandry, its decay and renewal, was very interesting. The best and most obvious part though are the gardens. Meticulously preserved and maintained, they are some of the best we’ve seen in the world. You can easily spend an hour walking outside rain or shine.
Absolutely worth a visit, it's a short drive away from Chenonceau Castle. Unlike many other castles, it is still privately owned by the last family that took possession of the castle in the 20th century about who you can learn more during your visit. The rooms are nicely set, giving you a great glimpse of the life the castle ones boasted. The gardens are a sight in themselves but honestly you get the best view of them from the actual castle!!
Stunning gardens, well worth a visit. We cycled to the chateau following the well signposted route along the Loire and Cher with our kids aged 7 and 9. You can buy either a ticket to see the just the gardens or pay extra to see inside the house as well. We opted for the gardens only which felt extensive enough to explore. There is a lot to see from symmetrical flower beds, fountains, a play park and a maze. We even stumbled on a tennis court which had a ball lying on it for a quick game of throw and catch. You can then work your way up the walls to higher than the main chateau building with fabulous views down into the gardens and over the surrounding countryside. There is a small cafe inside but also more options just outside the gate and nearby in the town. Car and bike parking is next to the entrance.
Lovely time at the castle and gardens. Could walk in the shade in the gardens ( very hot day) also art exhibition from an artist, loved it. Coffee and ice-cream at an affordable price at the front, also a restaurant but didn't go there. Space for the bikes at the front
The gardens are absolutely stunning. The castle itself is more modern, and I highly recommend watching the introductory video at the entrance to better understand its history.
Fabulous day out, especially for the family (2 boys 7 and 3) Beautiful grounds, informative tour and all nicely priced. Will revisit in the future, ideally with time to spend in the town nearby too.

(Translated by Google) Pretty soaps that respect our skin. A pleasant trader who explains her job and the specificities of her know-how to us. For my part, I chose citrus soap and another to remove stains from old-fashioned laundry without chemicals 😁 (Original) De jolis savons respectueux de notre peau.
Walked in greeted the woman behind the counter, speaking French, complimenting her on how nice her shop smelled. No response. Soon after 2 men arrived, only then this person got up and gave them a full explanation of the different soaps and their purposes. I left. Quel dommage. Still, a beautiful little shop that really does smell terrific.
(Translated by Google) Very nice small soap factory with a large selection of handmade soaps at good prices.
(Translated by Google) Very nice meeting at the Christmas market in Tours, a pleasure to see a small business full of common sense responding locally to one of our primary needs while allowing us to make very appreciable and useful Christmas gifts! What stupidity to go to Yves Rocher when a local company exists for superior quality service! The scents of the soaps are great, no excess packaging or plastic, the manufacturing respects the product (cold saponification), and the manufacturer is very friendly and accessible, she has everything right! Dry shampoos are also available, as well as lots of products from other [more or less] local artisans (original soap dishes, gloves, washable wipes, etc.), enough to give your bathroom a New World flavor! A company to fully support in this context of societal change!! I would give 10 stars if I could! Well done and best wishes!
(Translated by Google) We use the hair soap, it's great, we noticed that since we started using it we no longer have dandruff, we have to try the other soaps, they are very good too.

Sights & Landmarks

(Translated by Google) The Saint-Étienne Church is a Catholic church located in the town of Villandry, on a hillside, overlooking the castle. It has been a listed historic monument since 1907, and is one of the most important religious monuments in the region. It was built in the 12th century, on the ruins of an earlier church. It is dedicated to Saint Stephen, the first Christian m.rtyr (restrictive algorithm of Google Maps). The current church was built in a Romanesque style. It consists of a single nave, a choir and a transept. In the 15th century, the church was enlarged and equipped with a monumental portal. It has the particularity of being a building remarkable for its architecture. It is built in cut stone, and it presents many architectural elements typical of the Romanesque style, such as semicircular arches, sculpted capitals and modillions. The interior of the church is also remarkable. It is decorated with paintings and sculptures, made in the 12th and 13th centuries. Even if the castle is the emblematic monument of Villandry, the church is worth a detour. Lovely well kept church in quiet village
(Translated by Google) Right next to the famous castle with gardens, it is worth walking a few hundred meters further and visiting this tiny church of Romanesque origin. If it was locked, the keys are available at the town hall. There was music playing in the church during my visit, which had a great effect. In the 11th century, a rectangular chapel measuring 9 by 18 meters was built. At the end of the 12th century, side chapels and a choir were added. The original chapel then became the nave of the new church. Church dedicated to Saint Etienne, the first martyr. (Original) Tuż obok słynnego zamku z ogrodami, warto przejść te kilkaset metrów dalej i odwiedzić ten malutki kościół romańskiego pochodzenia. Jeżeli byłby zamknięty klucze dostępne są w ratuszu. W kościele podczas mojej wizyty grała muzyka, co dawało świetny efekt. W XI wieku zbudowano prostokątną kaplicę o wymiarach 9 na 18 metrów. Pod koniec XII wieku dobudowano boczne kaplice i chór. Oryginalna kaplica stała się wówczas nawą nowego kościoła. Kościół poświęcony świętemu Etienne, pierwszemu męczennikowi.

It's gorgeous on the outside, and the inside has a few truly wonderful sights to see too. It's quite quaint and modest compared to other churches we've visited in France, but I think it's worth the walk to take a peek at this place if you're in the area, especially since it's free to spend some time here. (Translated by Google) I went to get the keys to the church at the town hall, the welcome there was warm, accompanied by sound advice. The Saint-Etienne church, a testimony to Romanesque art, is worth the detour. The transept is from the 12th century, the apse and the nave are from the early 11th century, and some parts probably date from before the year 1000. The west portal is surmounted by a lintel decorated with caricature figures, grotesques in superb condition. Inside, there are numerous sculpted capitals, painted decorations and paintings. Beautiful stained glass windows and some rare objects are to be discovered. The nave and the choir are not in the same axis, the vaults of the nave and the arms of the transept are barrel-shaped, the sanctuary and the chapels of the arms of the transept are vaulted in half-domes. The crossing of the transept is remarkable, the four pillars and their capitals support a dome with large pendants. From the Domaine de Villandry, this church is visible, its visit is a wonderful complement to the discovery of the magnificent castle and its sublime gardens.
