Pavagadh Hills Shaktipeeth - Review Visiting Pavagadh Hills is truly a memorable experience for any spiritual traveler or adventure seeker. The journey combines spirituality, nature, and a touch of thrill with the ropeway ride. The ropeway facility is fairly good and earns a solid 4 out of 5. The cable cars are modern, safe, and offer a scenic ride over lush green forests and rocky hills. However, the waiting area at the ropeway station could be much better organized. During weekends or holidays, queues get long, and there’s hardly any proper waiting zone to relax while standing in line. So, patience is required! Important tip: Even if you take the ropeway, remember, you still have to climb around 500–600 steps to reach the main temple. So, come prepared with comfortable footwear and stay hydrated. But once you reach the top, the views are simply breathtaking. The panoramic sight of the surrounding hills and forests makes the entire climb worth it. And when you finally reach the sanctum for Mataji’s darshan, all your tiredness magically disappears. There’s an unexplainable peace and divine energy at the temple that refreshes you instantly. For food, the temple trust runs an Annakshatra dining hall near the temple, offering satvik Gujarati bhojan for just ₹20 per person. It’s simple, tasty, and feels heavenly after the tiring journey. If you have some extra time, you can visit Dudhiya Lake which is located near the temple. It’s a small, peaceful spot but frankly, it’s just okay compared to the stunning natural beauty you witness on the hills. Additional tips: • Ropeway tickets can be booked both online and offline, but if your plan is fixed, book online. Online booking allows direct access from the parking area, saving time and energy. • Parking charges for a car are ₹100 for the first 6 hours, which is reasonable given the facilities provided. ⸻ Pavagadh Shaktipeeth - A Brief History Pavagadh Hill is one of the 51 major Shaktipeethas across India and holds immense religious significance. According to mythology, it is believed that the right toe of Goddess Sati fell here, making it a sacred pilgrimage site for devotees of the Goddess. The temple atop the hill is known as the Mahakali Mata Temple, and it has been a revered spiritual center for centuries. The ancient architecture, combined with the raw energy of the place, reminds visitors of the temple’s timeless importance. It’s said that many kings and rulers of Gujarat and surrounding regions sought blessings here before major battles or important events. The blend of mythological importance, scenic beauty, and the challenging yet fulfilling journey to reach Mataji makes Pavagadh Shaktipeeth a must-visit destination.

The experience of seeing Mataji was very nice. There are about 2000 steps. If you don't want to climb the steps, there is also a ropeway. However, if it is a holiday, there is a long line for it. The rest is a very nice and religious place.

Gorgeous structure of world Heritage site. Just by entering you will feel Peace. The monument is kept neat and clean by ASI. There is a nice garden and lush green trees. Maintenance is required to stop water leakage from the ceilings..
The Jami Masjid is a powerful reminder of Champaner's rich history. The multiple mihrabs, the beautifully carved domes, and the overall symmetry of the structure are truly impressive. The surrounding landscape adds to the serene atmosphere. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in architecture, history, or simply experiencing a beautiful and peaceful place.
Good architecture which has been conserved very well. Not so huge but worth to visit the place. It is historical and well constructed. Important to note is that it is the part of archeological park in Champaner, and thus if you buy a ticket at any of the locations of this park, it is valid at all other historical places.
Jami Masjid was constructed in 1513 by Sultan Mahmud Begada, it is center of attraction of Champaner Pavagadh UNESCO World Heritage Site. Jami Masjid is a stunning example of Indo-Islamic architecture, featuring intricate carvings, two towering minarets, and a blend of Hindu and Muslim design elements like jali screens and ornate pillars, serving as a key congregational mosque until Champaner’s decline due the Mughal conquest in 1535. Now a days it is one of the best-preserved structures in Champaner Pavagadh Archaeological Park.
This is a UNESCO World Heritage site located near Baroda. The place is well maintained and nice to visit with family. The place has a rich history from Champaner. The lawns surrounding the mosque are green and add to the ambience. This is a must visit place if you are visiting Champaner and Pavagarh.
We visited the Jami Masjid, which is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh archeological park. This Masjid is located about 5 kilometers from Pavagadh and it still has most of its structures intact. The Jami Masjid is unique because it is one of the few mosques in India where both men and women were allowed to pray. This was built in the 16th century and has elements of the Mughal, Hindu and Jain architecture. We also found a guide here who explained all the details of the architecture and the history of this Masjid, which was fascinating. This is a hidden gem located very close to both Pavagadh and Champaner and a must visit for history lovers.
Fabulously kept and intricately constructed with beautiful engravings.. it’s a worth seeing monument.. well kept by the ASI and the same ticket will apply Fr archeological park Champanerso so keep ur tickets safe or take. Screenshot.. wish there were guides to explain .. parking is easy to get..

Truly unforgettable.
My visit to Pavagadh was truly an unforgettable experience — a perfect blend of spirituality, nature, and history. Rising majestically near Champaner, the hill offers breathtaking views and holds immense religious importance as the sacred abode of Maa Kalika, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths of India. The moment I stepped onto the path leading to the temple, I could feel a divine energy in the air, surrounded by chants and the sound of temple bells echoing through the hills. The journey itself is part of the joy. You can either trek up the ancient stone steps or take the ropeway (Udankhatola) that gives a spectacular aerial view of the lush green valley below. The ropeway is well-maintained, safe, and adds a sense of adventure to the pilgrimage. Once at the top, the view of the Kalika Mata Temple against the backdrop of clouds and cliffs is simply mesmerizing. The temple is beautifully preserved, and the devotees’ devotion adds to the spiritual aura of the place. Beyond its religious value, Pavagadh is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, forming part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park. The ancient forts, Jain temples, and historic ruins scattered around make it a paradise for history lovers and photographers alike. Clean surroundings, improving facilities, and the welcoming nature of local people make the trip even more pleasant. Watching the sunset from the hilltop after offering prayers was the perfect end to my day — peaceful, powerful, and deeply satisfying. Overall, Pavagadh is not just a destination; it’s a divine journey that connects you with Gujarat’s rich culture, faith, and natural beauty. A must-visit for anyone seeking a mix of adventure, devotion, and serenity.
Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park is A UNESCO World Heritage. It is a unique blend of Hindu, Jain, and Islamic heritage, centered around the 8th-century city of Champaner and Pavagadh Hill. It was founded by Vanraj Chavda, and later ruled by Rajput Chauhans until 1484, when Sultan Mahmud Begada captured it, and renamed Muhammadabad. He built mosques, palaces, and water systems here. He made it capital of Gujarat until it's decline due to Mughal attack in 1536. This site was recognized in 2004 which features 114 monuments, including the Kalika Mata Temple, a major hindu pilgrimage center, the architecturally significant Jama Masjid, and innovative stepwells, showcasing a rare pre-Mughal Islamic city. Its cultural synthesis, historical significance, and intact landscape turn it into a vital archaeological and spiritual site, though it is partly unexcavated and less tourist-friendly due to limited infrastructure you should definitely visit if you want to explore somewhere less crowded.
This site is mainly having two parts: one is Jami masjid and another is Saher ki masjid. Both were built by mahmud begada in between 1484-1536. However later Humayun (Moughal Emperor) looted and invaded the place. One can visit the site to see old archeology and some photoshoots too.
A Hidden Gem Near Pavagadh – Champaner I recently visited Champaner near Pavagadh, Vadodara – and what an incredible experience it was! This place truly feels like a step back in time. It's peaceful, serene, and full of ancient charm. The craftsmanship of the old workers is nothing short of extraordinary. Every stone, pillar, and arch tells a story of skill and dedication. Walking through the site, we could feel the royal vibes – like stepping into the shoes of a prince wandering through his grand kingdom. The atmosphere is calm and filled with positive energy. It’s a perfect getaway for anyone who appreciates history, architecture, and tranquil surroundings. We left feeling refreshed, inspired, and deeply connected to the past. Highly recommended if you're anywhere near Vadodara!

Pavagadh Kalika Temple is a revered and spiritually enriching destination situated atop the majestic Pavagadh Hill in Gujarat. As one of the Shakti Peethas, the temple holds immense religious significance, and its powerful energy is palpable the moment one steps inside. We recently visited during the monsoon season and felt like we were in heaven, surrounded by clouds everywhere. We took the ropeway to reach the temple, but there are options to trek up the hill or take the ropeway, a thrilling experience that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the landscape. The trek is steep but rewarding, with several small stalls and resting spots along the way, while the ropeway provides a comfortable ride, particularly for those who may find the trek challenging. The temple complex is well-maintained, and local vendors selling prasad, souvenirs, and snacks are friendly and welcoming. Jai Shree Mahakali Mataji! 🙏 This place is like a heaven. There should be cleaness awareness poster on some places.

Excellent experience - both spiritual and for the view. Current one has to climb about 300-400 steps to reach the temple despite taking the ropeway. But it appears that this ropeway is being extended to almost the top just near the temple and only a few steps will remain to be climbed. The darshan was easy, the view mesmerising and the experience elevating.

Kevda Masjid is a quiet place with beautiful architecture and a peaceful vibe. It's great for exploring history and appreciating the intricate details. A good spot for a thoughtful visit.
The Kevada or Kevda Masjid is one of the less visited hidden gem of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, A UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a 15th-century mosque built during the reign of Sultan Mahmud Begadah (1458–1511). It showcases a Indo-Islamic architecture with intricately carved minarets, domes, and multiple mihrabs. lt also features a double-storeyed prayer hall and a cenotaph, which blends Hindu and Islamic styles.
If you have searched and reached at this location, i can surely say that you are an architecture and history lover!!!. Don't follow the route given by google map. Encroachment are done and you can't reach there. Just ask local people about this mosque and they will guide you. Your vehicle can't reach there as there isn't motorable road to reach this site. Just look at the condition of "road sign" and "road" Surprised?.. Don't worry you will get some other surprises also. Pleasant surprise is a great architecture 😊. Its worth to take pain and reach there. Here also I can't see any grave at "Maqbara". There is no entry fee.
Kevda Masjid is a calm and quiet place to visit. The architecture is simple yet beautiful, and the area around the mosque is peaceful, making it a good spot for reflection. A serene visit for those interested in history and culture.
Kevada masjid is part of the Unesco World Heritage Site which is at the extreme end of the Fort area, the road to the Masjid is very bad and non-accessible to vehicles so we had to walk for around 5 to 10 minutes to reach the Masjid. To be very honest even being the heritage site all the sites are very poorly maintained or you can say not at all maintained. The Masjid is a great example of the fusion of Indo-Islamic architecture. The Masjid is one of the best among all the Masjids in terms of beautiful carvings and its simplicity which was much less crowded than the other places. It was a very peaceful experience visiting here and sitting for a while, witnessing the sunset here could be the best experience. The carvings on pillars and doms are very beautiful and a treat to the eyes. If you are planning to visit this site have a full day so that you can complete all the places without any hurry.
This mosque is seculeded. You will need to walk towards this. Car will not reach this place. Kevada Mosque (also Kewda or Kevda) is a mosque in Champaner, Gujarat state, western India. It is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mosque has minarets, globe-like domes, and narrow stairs. According to Ruggles (2008), nature was integrated into the Kevada mosque's architecture in a way that was unusual elsewhere in the Islamic world. This mosque was built in Champaner during the time of Mahmud Begada, as were several other mosques, such as the Bawaman, Ek Minar, Jama, Khajuri, Nagina, and Shahar Ki. After James Burgess and Henry Cousens wrote descriptions of the Kevada, Jama, and Nagina Mosques, roads were built to reach them. The Kevada is notable because of its mausoleum. Kathra Mosque is west of the Kevada. The mosque has many mihrabs, all intricately carved. There is a damaged brick tank for ablutions before prayers are offered at the mosque. The centotaph is square in shape with a fluted central dome and four corner domes; it is located next to the tank. The layout of the mosque is rectangular. Floral and geometrical designs adorn the niches. The tribate inter-columns are considered attractive. The prayer hall, a double storied structure, had three domes but the central dome has since disappeared. The windows have balconies built over pillars with intricate carved decorations. There are two minarets, which are also decorated with intricate carvings. Restoration works were carried out in the 1890s. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) reports of 2006 indicate that extensive restoration works were carried out at the Kevada Mosque and also at many other monuments in Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, the Jami Mosque, fort walls, Bawana Mosque, Lila Gubaz, Sikandar Shah Tomb and Sikander tomb, which resulted in a slight increase in tourist traffic to the sites.
