The view, oh the view! And the hike up to that incredible view? All I can say is although it’s strenuous at times, and some stretches are at about a 45 degree incline, the trail from the chalet is well-made. People of all ages (we are 65+ and 70+) plus kids and dogs make it to the top! Take water and a snack. Hiking poles were helpful for us. Also … check the weather before you go because we heard from others who tried that it was closed on their foggy day. It’s simply wonderful to say during our visit to France that “we ascended to the highest point in this country!”
Stunning views, the climb up is a little steep but was up and down in less than an hour, picnic included.
Challenging but Breathtaking – Climbing Puy Mary Climbing Puy Mary is not for the faint of heart—especially when the paths are icy and the wind bites at your cheeks. But if you're up for a bit of a challenge, the reward at the top is absolutely unforgettable. The trail demands a good dose of effort and determination, especially near the summit where the path can get steep and slippery. But every step is part of the journey, and the raw beauty of the landscape keeps you going. Once you reach the top, all that hard work pays off in the most spectacular way. The panoramic view from the summit is simply stunning—rolling volcanic peaks, dramatic valleys, and endless skies. It feels like standing on top of the world. It’s the kind of place that leaves you speechless and makes you forget about the climb entirely. If you love a bit of adventure and don't mind breaking a sweat, Puy Mary is a must. Just bring good boots, a bit of grit, and get ready for one of the most beautiful views the region has to offer.
Puy Mary in Cantal is simply breathtaking! We explored it on electric bikes, which made the climb easy and fun. Stunning panoramic views, fresh mountain air, and unforgettable scenery — a must-visit!
This hidden gem far from the masses in the remote Cantal region is worth a visit, not just for its stunning scenic views, but also a chance to get your heart pumping on the way up.
Quite a climb but in ok condition you should be fine. A real must if you are in the area.
There is a very well built staircase to the top. No rolling rocks and no big steps up or down.
Outstanding. Well worth the effort
