Gorey castle was the highlight of our week in Jersey. The castle is beautiful, I recommend entering through the sea path up some steep steps. Once you arrive at the gate you’re gifted with a beautiful garden. One real highlight was Geoff, he was our guide (he is a volunteer), Geoff was outstanding in his knowledge and humour. After the 90 minute tour had finished we were completely blown away by the experience of visiting the castle.
What an amazing, wonderful & fantastic place! The castle has so much history & is so well preserved & presented that every corner has something new & fascinating to look at. It has informative plaques & infographics that plunge you into the history & personality of the castle making you feel that you are a part of it. My inner child was itching at the bit over every piece of this place. The view form the top is recommended, you see every part of the coastline of Jersey & on the other side you can see the beaches of France! The staff were lovely & helpful. The place is epic... Oh & watch out for the wall lizards... You can hear them in the flora & they pop out onto the wall before skittering off, it's so cool! I can't wait to go back!!
A must visit if you are in Jersey! There are three castles on the island, however with this one being on the east coast, you will get stunning views of the coast of France! it takes about 2 hours to explore the castle and there are lots of steps. This is not recommended for anyone with walking difficulties or those who need extra assistance. I would also recommend taking a bottle of water if the sun is out, you will be very warm by the time you reach the top! The castle is over 800 years old, with fascinating history to it. From the times of William the conqueror to the German occupation of the island in WW2. It has been beautifully kept, and there are hundreds of areas to explore in the castle and the grounds itself. You can book tickets online, however we purchased our tickets on arrival from the entrance which was easy to do. If you are going to visit more than one attraction they do offer a discounted ticket for 3 attractions, and it does work out as a saving to you. So check this out if you want to visit the castle, maritime museum and another attraction on the offer. With stunning views of the island, France and the bays, this is a fantastic attraction on the island and I would highly recommend to anyone interested in history, castles or those looking for something fun and interesting to do while in Jersey. Castle is easy accessible by bus, with the bus stopping right in the town below the castle.
Really enjoyed our castle visit. Loads to see but it is up loads of stairs. The views from the top are spectacular and loved that you could go round in any order. The "serf" running around with his lute looked like he wanted to be anywhere but we found that quite amusing. Cafe was good and had a humongous scone. Really nice staff and highly recommend.
Wow! A jaw-droppingly-good castle with plenty of rooms stairs, floors, corridors, dungeon and roof top to explore. Comparatively more exciting than Elisabeth Castle. A captivating history will keep you interested for a couple of hours. With gift shop, cafe and respectably clean public toilets. The views from the different levels and parapets are not to be missed. On a breezy day, keep a hold of your children and your hats out on the very top!
Very enjoyable. The castles is in a good condition, considering everything. Plenty of rooms, courtyards, roof tops and other bits to see. A great view from the top, of course a lot of steps are involved, so some may find the climb difficult. Otherwise well worth catch the bus and enjoy.
An absolute must for anyone who likes castles. Not a ruin but not updated and modernised either - you get a real feel for how the castle was and how it developed over the centuries. Great explanatory displays throughout, so that you can understand better. Lots of stairs, but absolutely worth it for the great views. Also catch the bird of prey display if it’s on when you visit.
Really enjoyed our visit to Mont Orgueil Castle. The history, the exhibits and the views were excellent. However, watch out for the witch or you'll jump out of your skin with fright.
