I love it! The trains are very well maintained and clean. The staff are very friendly. And most important for me, the beautiful scenery. I definitely recommend this. Would be a great experience, especially for family with little children. We went there during Easter holiday and there's someone in easter bunny costume going around the train entertaining children. There's a counter at the station where you can buy the tickets, but when we were there we could also buy our tickets on the train - probably because it was public holiday. They offer several different types of tickets: one-way ticket, round trip ticket, and day ticket.

Very nice to experience this short ride but it felt like going back in time. The train is perfectly maintained the ticket sellers are dressed in clothes from that time. The scenery is so nice the nature is beautiful. The stations they stop are nice and you can step off and enjoy the nature or a mine at one of the stops. It's a nice ride in every season of the year it's to bad there was no snow this time

This is unbeliveable. You go there and you feel like diving in to world found in old postcards. Two steamlocomotives drive the trains which meet each others at the Schmalzgruben station. Wonderfull landscape and some picturescue railroad buildings complete the picture. Friendly staff with oldtime uniforms and well functioning cafe services both in train and station Jöhnstad. There is also possibility to ride the train, go for a walk and take the next train. This we will explore when returning back on our next stay in Germany.

Great narrow gage railway. They really capture the nostalgic ambiance of the steam period in the east of Germany before the fall of the wall. All stations, and as well all the locomotives look great and are very well maintained. And all being run by volunteers as well!

Wonderful preserved line run by volunteers. Set in DDR days. We went for their 4 day event. Great to see so many young volunteer Ticket Collectors looking very smart in their uniforms. Very helpful keen everyone has great day out.
