Gothic & Baroque castle dating from the 13th century, with tours of its lavish interiors.

Beautiful and impressive place. The interiors very interesting and in a good shape. Visiting the castle is only possible with the guide who talks in Czech, but we got our leaflets with all info in Polish. The tour takes approx. 1 hour. On Sunday the tours were quite often so we didn't have to wait long for the next one. You have to pay extra for the possibility to take pictures inside.
Český Šternberk Castle is a stunning medieval fortress perched above the Sázava River. Beautifully preserved, with rich interiors and a unique family history that goes back to the 13th century. One of the must-visit castles in the Czech Republic.
Extremely interesting location! Half an hour to drive from Prague. Good parking, 50 CZK (2 euro) (it is necessary to pay in the Castle when buying entrance tickets - 250 CZK - 10 euro). The castle belongs to one of the descendants of the Sternberg family. Inside you will see a lot of interesting things, rooms, furnitures - knight's hall, salon, chapel, ladies' salon, library (3500 copies of old books), dining room, office, hall, smoking room, bedroom, hunting salon. The tour takes about an hour in Czech. But there is a printed description in other languages, the description should be taken free of charge when buying tickets. In the courtyard of the castle is a nice restaurant with normal prices. Definitely recommend to anyone interested in medieval castles
Wasn’t able to catch a tour as we went in the evening in November and they closed at 2pm. However, this was a blessing, as we captured such an amazing sunset, and the gorgeous autumn colors of the forests around the castle were spectacular! There are walking trails all around, amazing views from the town below, and very few people around.
It may not be the most famous castle, but it is a genuine example of a working castle that is lived in by the same family that built the original part of the castle in 1241. The history in between was somewhat turbulent for the family, which makes for a fascinating story, and the visit was all the more memorable for that. I am glad I took the tour. Thanks to my tour guide, Maria.
A well maintained castle in a beautiful area. Very happy they offer English tours. Our guide was knowledgeable, shared a lot of information and was able to answer all our questions. She was very patient with us and had a warm personality. You can get a few refreshing drinks and snacks to enjoy in the court. Very good homemade lemonades. The prices are mostly fair, though they ask for a €2 camera license if you want to take pictures, which is absolutely silly.
Stunning castle, a must visit! Great tour! They offer guided tours! I loved the stories!
The castle is very beautiful. The view is amazing. But if you want to photograph the castle it costs around 50 CZK. Inside Is pretty large. From the view you can see the beatiful railway and the Sázavské forests. Castle Is open only in weekends.
