Authentic Swanetian Clan Tover aside the main road to Ushculi. The name is linked to a Saga of a local couple not accepted in the village built here an own tower direct aside Enguri River. Entrance fee required (2 Lari).
We read that it’s not worthy to climb the tower, hence we saw it only from outside. There is an interesting story behind the tower though. Entrance is paid, but you can take pictures for free from outside.
2 lari, could be interesting if you've not climbed a svan tower during your hike(s). Sturdy ladders and floors, but it's empty and no story telling around it.
The tower of love, Georgia. Built on a large rock by the bank of the brimming Patara Enguri river flowing fast downhill, this well protected 400+ years old small Svaneti tower was the home for two lovers from village Kala, as the villagers did not consent to their marriage, according to one of the many different legends about this tower. Sourrounded by a beautiful nature full with different types of greenery and colourful flowers. (5 June 2023)
All towers are the same but the stories are different. Bought a nice hand made souvenir there
It has multiple storey inside which can climb up with ladder. We climb to the top storey. It's not easy and not suitable for elderly. Nothing inside. Just a empty block space in each storey. Small river behind the tower is so clear.
It’s a Svan tower and you can go inside, it’s nice and cool in there, but nothing of remark. My friend was very concerned about the lack of safety with the ladders to climb up to each floor. It’s a pretty spot by the river. 2 gel entry.
This is a tourist stop where you'll be asked to pay 2 Lari or USD $.75/pp to take pictures and climb in the tower. We'd hoped to get pics in the tower, but a largefamily then a tour bus all arrived and climbed in behind us, so it wasn't possible for one of us to get out while other remained inside (without others in the windows of the tower.) On the positive side this tower was reasonably well maintained and the ladders were mostly secured and sufficiently tall to reach the next level, so not as much a risky/rickety climb as other towers in the area. There is a toilet available on the property (some distance from the tower). After the crowd arrived I wasn't interested to use it.... I am not a fan of being crowded by lots of other tourists and I might have rated this higher if the flow of people had been managed inside the tower (versus 20 people all flooding up so I couldn't climb down.) I figured the tower can easily hold a couple thousand pounds/wooden level/floor but didn't want to be in it if my guess was off! It was an ok attraction, but definitely a money making tourist stop crammed full of Instagram picture takers.
