since i love all about train, visiting this place is one of my wishlist in life. if you want to know the journey of Indonesia railways since beginning, this is the best place to visit. not only the information, you can also see the vintage loco as well as the ambarawa station itself. i also bought the KA wisata ticket, to experience riding on vintage cars from ambarawa to tuntang, enjoying such a beautiful scenery from inside the train car. this would be memorable experience for me. overall, this gives me different experience of holiday :)
Ambarawa Railway Museum houses a collection of historic locomotives, including steam engines still in operation. Visitors can enjoy a scenic train ride through beautiful countryside. A great destination for history lovers and families seeking an educational trip.
I just passed this museum on my way to Monumen Palagan Ambarawa and ended up visiting it. It’s a very informative museum with real historical artifacts. Unfortunately, some of the captions on the images are a bit blurry, and I also missed the chance to join the old train trip. It would be more engaging and interesting if there were interactive sessions or activities held in the museum
The museum, formerly the now-inactive Ambarawa station, is a fascinating and informative way to learn about Indonesia's railway history. It features a collection of vintage locomotives, a cafe serving local cuisine, and the opportunity to ride a train along the old Dutch-era tracks to Tuntang station, overlooking the beautiful natural scenery.
There are many lessons for children, especially about the history of Indonesian transportation. Beautiful and clean place and very beautiful mountain views. Unfortunately the price of food/drink is quite expensive and you can't bring food/drinks from outside
The museum offers a great experience, especially for kids, with educational value and an interesting collection. Unfortunately, I visited during rainy weather, which made it hard to fully enjoy the outdoor areas. While it's good for children, the museum could improve by offering a dedicated kids' tour guide. Interactive storytelling or demonstrations would help younger visitors who may not yet be able to read or fully understand the exhibits. Overall, it's a nice place but could be more engaging for families.

Candi Gedong Songo is an absolute treasure! Nestled on the slopes of Mount Ungaran, this site offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. The ancient Hindu temples are incredibly well-preserved and provide a fascinating glimpse into Indonesia's rich heritage. The scenic views are breathtaking, with lush greenery and serene surroundings that make you feel like you've stepped into another world. The hike between the temples is enjoyable and adds a sense of adventure to the visit. The trails are well-maintained, and the fresh mountain air is invigorating. While the roads to the site can be a bit steep, the journey is definitely worth it. The facilities are basic but sufficient, with parking available and small stalls offering snacks and drinks. I’d recommend bringing some water and snacks for a more comfortable experience. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or just looking for a peaceful escape, Candi Gedong Songo is a must-visit. Highly recommended for anyone traveling to Central Java!
A nice short hike that's pretty picturesque. Parking: 4/5 plenty of parking space Price: 5/5 pretty cheap Toilets: 3/5 plenty and clean at the entrance, would've been 5/5 but all paid.
Good spot to do outdoor tracking, the Temple is also magnificent, there's a hot springs if you want to take a bath
The perfect place to walk/hiking to ancient historical building at mountain high. Stretching for 4 km tracking exercises fit for your health monitoring smartwatch. If youre weak enough, you could rent a horse 🐎 too. 😀👍🏻
This cultural and natural place has been developed well now. The parking areas are separated for motorcycles and cars or buses. The ticket price is relatively cheap. There's also ticket for foreign visitors with different price, of course. Beside temples to see, this place provides some shops selling food and drink that you can bring on your trip to the temple. If you don't like to walk, you might consider to rent a horse to walk you to the temple. Select the horse-riding packages you want. Other facilities you can find here are toilets, canteen, souvenirs shop, theatre, etc. Want to go camping or do outbound activities? Just contact the officer for the reservation.
Very nice and beautyful temple! You need around 2 hours to walk around, so dont fall for the locals who want to talk you into horse riding. The air is fresh up there and the views are stunning
Gedong Songo temple is one of the tourist destinations and local heritage. When I was visited here, there’s still under construction of parking space. Before, we can park directly in front of the gate of the temple and right now in a bit spacious land in the residential area around. For the access to the every temple is still the same, but the ticket price always increase and should be getting improved if the ticket price higher (maybe for adding more toilets, cleanliness of the temple area, etc) The view is so beautiful and great for take some pics here.
A Serene Escape to Gedong Songo Temple Nestled high on the slopes of Mount Ungaran, Gedong Songo Temple (literally "Nine Buildings") in Semarang offers a truly captivating experience for history buffs and nature lovers alike. This collection of nine Hindu temples, dating back to the 8th and 9th centuries, provides not only a fascinating glimpse into ancient Mataram Kingdom architecture but also breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Upon reaching the temple complex, you'll discover individual temples scattered across the landscape. Each "gedong" has its own distinct character, though some are more well-preserved than others. The air up here is refreshingly cool, a welcome respite from the tropical heat of the lowlands. The serene atmosphere, combined with the historical significance of the site, makes for a truly reflective and peaceful visit. Beyond the temples, Gedong Songo also boasts natural hot springs, perfect for soaking tired muscles after exploring. There are also various stalls selling local snacks and souvenirs, allowing you to refuel and grab a memento of your trip. Tips for your visit: * Wear comfortable shoes: You'll be doing a fair amount of walking, especially if you decide to hike. * Bring layers: The temperature can vary significantly between the base and the top of the mountain. * Consider renting a horse: It's a fun and convenient way to get around the sprawling complex. * Go on a clear day: The views are truly spectacular when there's no fog. Gedong Songo is more than just a historical site; it's an immersive experience that combines cultural exploration with natural beauty. It's an absolute must-visit if you're in the Semarang area and are looking for a unique and memorable outing.

If you come to Semarang City in Central Java, don’t forget to visit Rawa Pening. It’s only 33 km away from Semarang or 45 minutes by motorcycle/car. You can see the beautiful nature and landscape in this place
I never knew that there's a floating resto on the lake. My first time trying stir-fried lotus and quite suprise because its so freaking good! But the fish... Hmm too sweet and how to say it, they don't "de-vein" the fish. However, you may enjoyed the atmosphere and i think you allowed to fish there
One of interesting place at Semarang, lake rawa pening offer you a beautiful scenery.
Beautiful lake surrounded by mountains and amazing view
Nice place to relax and enjoy with someone or with the family. Ticket price is also cheap, that makes everybody choose this place for the destination, especially in Ambarawa.
Tempat favorite untuk hunting sunrise, sunset, dan human interest.
In Central Java, there are several artificial and natural lakes. One of the natural lakes in Central Java is Rawa Pening. Rawa Pening is located in the Ambarawa district. We can enjoy the beauty of the lake by riding a boat that will take us to the middle of the lake. Before reaching the middle of the lake, we will find a lot of water hyacinths that grow. Then, in the middle of the lake, there are fish ponds that make many white cranes fly over or perch on cages. Besides, on the edge of the lake, there are also parks, restaurants, and a game arena for children. This place is perfect for relaxing with family and friends, because it is in a pretty high contour area, in the foot of the mountain, don't forget to bring a jacket when visiting the lake! :)
it's a woow scenery. mountains combains with lake. the activites around will make you can't stop pressing your shutter. fishing, canoeing, and visitors are great composition to capture. and while you come here in the morning, you won't miss the sound of the bird's singing, sunrise, fresh air, and the quiteness of course. such a great place!
