A magical place and worth spending an hour or two just to relax. Unfortunately the bridge was destroyed in the storm last year but you can walk/swim in the water to pass over
Our first stop on our holiday and a disappointing one. The bridge has fallen so you go down to the river to pass on some earth that was dropped to allow crossing. The church is not maintained, the frescoes are loosing the colours. The path for the well is not marked and not light. So can almost get there, but the smell...
You cross a large metal bridge that leads to the cool place by the river. The temple is built in the rock itself, and next to it there is a narrow passage in the rock at the end of which there is a spring that flows into the river.
This chapel is not advertised to foreign tourists, but it is a very important pilgrimage for Greeks and other Orthodox peoples. The church is partially located in a cave, and underneath it lies a small cave with a spring with holy water of Agia Paraskevi. The cave is so small it can only take one visitor at a time, and be prepared to crouch while entering. All in all, a very nice place to visit if you are in the area, with good access, parking, a tavern and a lot of souvenir stands. You should expect big crowds on religios holidays, esp. on July 26.
Nice and calm place in Tempi Canyon. Suspension bridge for pedestrians is crossing river and lead to a church. Deep shade of tall trees is excellent in a hot Greek summer. There are numerous religious suvenires offered in a small improvised shops, and also some hand made clay pots and other stuff. In the September the crowd is smaller, compared to high season. The new highway has also decreased number of visitors. The Tempi Canyon is now hidden, because tunnels are making trip easier and faster
On the road from Thessaloniki to Larissa you pass through Tempi Gorges, there you will find one of the most popular temples in Greece, a trademark of Tempe Valley. Most of the travelers stopped and worshiped at this place. Built near the riverbed in a beautiful location.
In the past everybody stopped here on their way to Thessaloniki, now if you decide to come here you have to pay 1,60€ to get off the highway and go back in again.
A lovely place hidden in the woods. You can drink spring water directly from the stream.
