It's a very amazing place. I've been living here for 4 years, but when I arrived on the island of Thessaloniki, 3 months later, I heard about this zoo. I liked it very much and this place reminded me of my village Everything was amazing, very calm
I happened to go past it whilst on a hike trail and popped in since it's free entry. This is more like a park with some animals rather than a zoo, so don't expect a typical zoo. It's scenic and has lovely areas where you can sit and enjoy the views, though some areas have a strong smell of ammonia. Don't make a special trip out to visit the zoo as you're likely to be disappointed, but pop in if you're nearby and have some time.
The zoo is clean and well-maintained, with a few elevated spots offering beautiful views over the city. However, it has very few animals — just some sheep, goats, geese, a couple of small turtles, and two peacocks (one of which had escaped from its enclosure). That said, the animals that are there appear healthy and well cared for. A pleasant place for a short walk, but not a typical zoo experience.
This facility cannot be called a zoo—it is a place of suffering for animals. Many animals are kept in enclosures that are far too small, such as a 2x2 meter cage shared by a peacock and a hen. There is very little shade, and the animals appear neglected. Some goats have severely overgrown hooves, and one could barely walk, using its knees instead of hooves. Many enclosures were thankfully empty, but the paths are overgrown and poorly maintained. The overall impression is one of sadness and frustration due to the apparent lack of care from the staff. This is not how animals should be treated. I am sharing videos to raise awareness of the unacceptable conditions.
Beautiful location ,wish it was more taken care of,the animals were fewer than what we had expected and most of them seemed hungry and tired.Overall its a great idea for a family to visit. Entrance is free.
This is a beautiful place, very nice for a mountain walk and fresh air. It is clearly seen that some time ago people put effort into designing and building it. However, looks like during the last time this place lacks finance and maintenance, unfortunately. Thought it still looks good. Regarding animals… not too much of them there. I would say 10-15 species total, half of the cages are empty.
Not many animals, not well preserved. Needs renovations and re organisation of the enclosures. It's a shame because it has a great potential and the natural surroundings are just so beautiful. It could be so great but it needs a lot of work. Still cool to go for a walk through it but it shouldn't be a park, it should be a proper zoo.
Truly heartbreaking. Several animals are clearly injured and suffering. There was a stag limping badly, looking completely defeated, and a pig with an open wound on its leg, barely able to move. It was dragging itself through the dirt, clearly in pain. Among these terrible sights of neglect was a lone donkey, completely alone in its pen, hooves so overgrown it could hardly stand properly. Yes, the zoo is free, but that doesn’t excuse what’s happening here. These animals are trapped in miserable conditions with little to no care. It doesn’t feel like a place of education or conservation. It feels like a place where animals are forgotten. I honestly wish I hadn’t gone. The place has made me feel sick to my stomach that such a place still exists in 2025.
