Visited end of August, so the wheat had been harvested which made access easier. Tall and impressive stone, worth a look if you are nearby.
Not super easy to get to and most would say it's just a rock in a field. I had to see it. Park across the street jump the gate and visit this legendary stone. I don't know if it's truly where Cu Chulainne died, but I could definitely imagine a legendary battle being fought here.
very historic place for folklore, a must see for anyone passing. parking on the main road outside a business. no problems walking across the field to the stone.
Just know it’s a stone in a farming field, not a visited location. We parked across the street at the electricians and politely wandered on the edge of the farmers field. Definitely worth visiting.
It's a magical place, great to see up close. I would love to see Louth Tourism promoting this national monument more, or at all. It is physical representation of Ireland's most celebrated hero throughout the ages, yet it stands in a field with virtually no effort put towards it's preservation. A significant monument with no significance given
Such a historic landmark. Made me emotional and gave me a spiritual experience standing next to the stone that Cu Chuliann is said to have died whilst strapped to. Check out the mythology before coming. It is regarded as a last stand and is used in many ways throughout history for it. The 1916 Easter Rising medal has his portrayal on it whilst strapped to the the stone and a famous large statue stands in the GPO in Dublins O'Connell street. A must see for history, republican or ancient site fanatics.
If you're in the area, it's worth a look! Be mindful of the farmers' field. More for true history and mythology lovers
This is also known as Cuchullians Stone. It stands in the middle if a field but theres a sense of foreboding about it! In legend this is the Stone the warrior Cuchullion(Hound of Ulster) strapped himself to so he could die standing up
