A remarkable historical monument of the early Middle Ages. Something reminiscent of the famous Mesa Verde)) I have been many times with my family members, friends and guests. In my opinion, we were the very last visitors to this place !! Unfortunately, due to natural erosion, persistent landslides, rockfalls and the impact of some modern "barbarians - Herostrati", the complex is closed and strengthening and restoration work is underway. I recommend !!

Free to enter, and much less crowded than Vardzia. We were the only tourists there at 11AM. You must be fit and wearing shoes to climb up, because the road is quite steep.

The monk here was so nice here, he gave us a special tour around the monastery, where you normally can not go :) what a treat !

It's worth the very steep climb according to me. My friend had a different opinion as it is somewhat similar to the more famous Wardzia down the road. No tours offered. The lowest church is very nice. Lots of nice views.

The place is temporarily closed due to falling rocks. However it’s possible to walk up to the church if you’re being careful. The caves are inhabited by three monks so be aware of that.
