Mount Shasta has a light parade at Thanksgiving night. We didn’t know about it prior to our trip, so it was a pleasant surprise. It is a clean, cozy town with cool cafes.
I took this picture from an airplane!! Absolutely gorgeous from all angles but was especially excited to see it from this spot!! Its on my bucket list to see it from the ground!!
Today I flew over Mt Shasta while travelling from Sacramento to Portland by Alaska Airline. Mt Shasta is one of the 7 holy mountains of the world. 26000 came to visit it last year. It has a power CC and presence that is exceptional and palpable. Indigenous peoples have called it the center of our universe.
We visited a couple of weeks after the holidays and boy were we glad we did. The absolute beauty and peacefulness was exactly what we needed to decompress. It's amazing and I highly recommend it!
The views are amazing! We weren’t even planning to climb that high, but it was so much fun and our dog loved it, and the climb wasn’t even that hard, but it was definitely worth it! Unfortunately we couldn’t hike higher because of our doggy :( so be aware of it. The weather was perfect, it was sunny but not hot because the snow was keeping us cool. But we didn’t expect that much snow in May. Still was a lot of fun!
We were passing Mt. Shasta on our Pacific northwest tour. Amazing views of a snow capped peak rising from the flat area around. Several places to stop along the way to capture some amazing pics. You see it from miles around from different angles, simply gorgeous.

Mt. Shasta Summit: A Challenging but Rewarding Adventure On July 4th, 2023 my friends and I had the incredible opportunity to climb Mt. Shasta via the Avalanche Gulch Route. We stayed at an Airbnb in Redding, CA, about 1.5 hours from the trail. We left the Airbnb at 12:30 AM and arrived at the trail at 2 AM. We took the Avalanche Gulch Route, which is a 17.5-mile round trip with an elevation gain of 7,200 feet. It took us approximately 13.5 hours to complete the climb. We began the climb at 2AM and stopped around 6AM to view the morning alpenglow at Helen Lake (10,550ft). During this time, the trail was almost entirely snow covered, except for the scree field we encountered on Misery Hill (13,800ft). We used a combination of trekking poles and spikes on the ascent. Due to the steep conditions at that time, an ice axe was needed for the last 300+ feet to the summit. The hike was challenging, but the panoramic view from the summit was absolutely breathtaking. Given the snow conditions in July 2023, we were able to glissade for several thousand feet down the mountain, significantly easing the descent. If you're looking for a challenging but rewarding adventure, I highly recommend climbing Mt. Shasta. Just be prepared for the physical demands and plan accordingly. Key details: Route: Avalanche Gulch Total trip distance: 17.5 miles Start time: 2 AM Summit time: 11:30 AM Finish time: 3:30 PM Total trip time: 13.5 hours

Lake
Nature & Parks
Man-made 430-acre lake with Mount Shasta scenery edged by a 7-mile trail, popular for water sports.
Slide 1 of 8
Walked the 7-mile trail around the lake last weekend in June. It's well-marked, well-worn, and easy to follow. Beautiful views the entire way. There are restrooms spaced out along the trail every couple miles or so, wherever you find a parking lot. There are a couple of exposed sections, but for the most part, it is well-shaded.
Dopest of dope of camp sites always the best time with the fam bam lets go 40 years deep in the camping game how bout that!
It's very cheap to park here. The beach has a great view of Mount Shasta. Nice place to come for camping or to cool off on a hot summer's day.
Lake Siskiyou is a very pretty Forest and Lake State Park .
The south side area we'd planned to go to was closed for some hazard they were fixing, so we went around to a camping/pull out area on the east side. You couldn't see the reflection of the mountain, but it was still very peaceful and pretty. The parking lot had bathrooms.
Great place for fishing and taking a walk
Really nice 7 mile, easy to hike trail that encompasses the lake. Lots of beautiful scenery to see…with the snow covered Mount Shasta off to the east being our favorite. The only issue currently is on the far western side of the lake. Heavy water flows has made the normal crossing area inaccessible and you’ll have to turn back. If you are a little more adventurous, you can follow the side trail west a little further. There you will find a large fallen tree that can be used to cross the water. I don’t recommend it though if you’re not sure on your feet.
I have been camping and living right by or near this Lake for well over a decade. There's a great trail that goes all the way around the lake, boat access public beaches private campgrounds apparently good fishing because there's always people there fishing. The campground also rents pontoon boats. There are public outhouses that are maintained fairly well in multiple locations as well as parking and there's a Frisbee golf course right next to it. Every 4th of July this is where they do the fireworks and lots of friendly people can be found walking or biking the trail at all times. There are some picnic table areas and lots of hidden spots to set up your own little private Beach area. It is also very popular with ducks and seagulls. Deer can be regularly seen here as well as tons of squirrels.

The Headwaters of the Sacramento River in Mount Shasta City is a breathtaking spot that’s teeming with life and energy! This natural spring, known for being a primary source of fresh water, draws in visitors from all over, eager to refill their containers with its pure, crystal-clear water. It’s not just about the water, though—the entire area feels like a hidden gem. The park’s small campground offers stunning, panoramic views, making it a perfect escape into nature. Majestic pines tower over the water as it seemingly “springs to life,” creating a peaceful yet invigorating atmosphere. Whether you’re there for the water or the scenery, it’s an unforgettable experience for nature lovers!
It is a required stop in during your visit to Mount Shasta. Not only is stunningly beautiful, it's the best water I have ever tasted my entire life available at the head of the Sacramento River. There's gentle hikes and strolls available around the park. There's all kinds of activities usually taking place in the park. Do not miss it.
A lovely bridge within the park and a pleasant walk to the waterfall make this spot worth visiting. The clean, open area is perfect for relaxing, and the playground adds extra fun for kids. A great place for both nature and play!
Nice stop between Redding and Oregon, good for picnics or a relaxing walk, beautiful during the Fall 🍂🍁❤️. I did not get to taste the water but did see people filling up their water jugs, will have to try it next time.
The most stunning park I’ve ever seen. There are quite a few trails across and along the stream. A huge grass yard to walk barefoot. Drum circles on Sundays. All you can eat blackberries in late summer — Labor Day is peak ripeness. Quite a happening watering hole too. I must have drank 50 gallons of water from the mountain spring here by now, unfiltered, no issues.
There is the purest water here right off Mt.Shasta! People fill up their water jugs right there! It's so cold and sweet!
What a great experience, beautiful park, clean glaciar water springs and the drum circle was a lovely surprise.
Spring water right off the mountain, picnic area, shaded tree area and play area for children. Nice place just to come and relax

Glacial mountain lake popular for camping, fishing, boating & picnics, plus wildlife viewing.

Started the hike at around 5pm on a Tuesday in August. This is the Heart Lake Trail from Castle Lake on AllTrails. 3.4 miles round trip with 900 ft elevation gain for me. There were quite a few people enjoying Castle Lake close to the trailhead. To get a view of the heart shape of Castle Lake, you have to go all the way up to the viewpoint. Do not stop when you get to the small lake by the trailside. Saw some very cute doggos on the trail. Easy to find parking, and no fees.
This is one of the best lakes I've been to. Crystal clear water and beautiful views. Small dock in the middle of the lake to jump off of. Take paddleboards here for best bet. There are small cliffs to jump too. Parking may be an issue but went on a weekend and it wasn't too bad. Barely any parking lot. Tons of places to set up a chair to sit and eat a sandwich
Such a beautiful spot for a hike or enjoy the lake. Usually quite a few people are up at the lake so not too remote.
This lake is beautiful and is at a high enough elevation that you feel at cooler temperatures when you’re up there. Lots of people in the water on paddle boards, boats and kayaks. The hike up to Heart lake is difficult, but not so challenging that you can’t do it in about 45 minutes. Absolutely stunning views of Mount Shasta from heart lake. Worth the hike!
Really cool little alpine lake, swimmers and kayakers/canoes welcome. Jump off for Heart Lake.
Beautiful Lake, although with the snow I haven't found the trail to Heart Lake. Went on 5-20-23 and still tons of snow here. People were still walking on the lake since it is still frozen over. Easy to get to driving, take castle lake road and it dead ends right at the lake. Smaller parking lot that tends to get pretty crowded. Beautiful area, just visit more in late summer months to avoid all the snow. Close to Lake Siskiyou, and while there was snow at Castle lake, people were swimming and boating on Lake Siskiyou. Gorgeous area to visit and hike, or bring a kayak or a paddleboard to explore the lake. You can also stay at the campground or cabins at Lake Siskiyou and it is a 10 min drive to visit Castle Lake. Some cell service in areas by Castle Lake, but if you go closer to Siskiyou Lake you will have a good signal.
A beautiful place to hike, camp and play on the water when temperatures are warmer.
Great hiking and kayaking spot.

We recently visited the Mt.shasta Museum, and it was an incredible experience for both kids and adults. The museum is designed to be highly interactive, with numerous hands-on exhibits that engage children in learning through play. the museum is filled with opportunities for discovery and fun Overall, the Museum is a fantastic place for families. It provides a perfect blend of education and entertainment, making learning a delightful experience for kids. Highly recommended!
Wow! I didn’t expect to be so impressed by this place. I’m truly blown away by how wonderful the museum is. The staff were so welcoming, warm, and helpful. We had two young kids with us, and the staff took the time to show them around and explain things very patiently. We also asked about other tourist attractions in the area, and they gave us great recommendations. The museum itself is super cute — there’s so much to see, touch, and learn. It’s both educational and fun, and the kids loved it. I highly recommend stopping by, even if you don’t have kids. What a nice surprise!
What a pleasant surprise! My son ended up playing here for over two hours — it’s basically a free children’s museum. The staff were super friendly and even played along with the kids. There’s no admission fee, so I made a small donation and bought a few items to support them. Outside, the trout hatchery was interesting to see for the first time, though the dense clusters of fish did trigger a bit of trypophobia for me.
What a fun little museum with lots of interactive games and exhibits for kids and adults to play! Lots of local history presented in a fun engaging way. Play dress up in old timey clothes, drive the train on a video monitor & blow the horn, crawl in a faux lava cave and so much more. It’s a tiny place but everyone was loving it and having so much fun! Free but donations appreciated. Fun little gift shop corner too.
A must visit place especially with kids. A stop here was a nice break from all the hiking and waterfall visits. Lots of memorabilia of local tribes and their history. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. This museum is maintained by donations, so please consider!
This is a great museum! So much great information, and a lot of interactive areas for kids. Have been to many museums across the west. This is one of the best. No charge to go there, but I highly recommend you donate at least $2-3 a person as these people do a great job maintaining the exhibits. And the fish hatchery next to the museum is interesting as well.
We stumbled upon this place while visiting the fish hatchery and were blown away by how cool it is! It’s a must stop for history enthusiasts and kids alike. We could have easily spent hours here with all the interactive things for the kids to do. My son begged us to go back on our way out of town and wants to know when we are coming back to Shasta so we can go again!
What a delight to stop at this little museum and fish hatchery! It contains so much more than what it appears from the outside. The museum is chock-full of local history of the area which we found amazing. From the early lumbering to the railroad to the skiing industry, it was all fascinating. If you have children and especially little ones, there is an abundance of things to play with that would make a totally fun day. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Add on a trip to the fish hatchery next door where you can see trout in various stages and feed them for FREE! If you are a tourist, you need to go here!

I learned to ski here years ago, before they added the Coyote lift. Today I brought my son for his first lesson. It's a great park for what it is. Not as big or as nice as many Tahoe parks, but much more affordable and less crowded. All of the staff is friendly and helpful. Most of the rental gear is in good condition. The ski school has great instructors, and has a fantastic 5:1 student-to-instructor ratio. This was my first time coming since they added Gray, and I missed the memo that it requires hiking in both directions. That was certainly a surprise. It's not worth heading to Gray unless you have a couple hours to dedicate to it. I'm surprised they didn't put Gray on the front side where you could see it and get access from Coyote, but I'm sure they had good reasons for doing so. What holds Shasta back is their lifts: they are old and slow and (except Gray) don't have safety bars. It seems like, instead of adding Gray, they could have modernized their resort, spent less money, and ended up with a better park overall. But, I heard that Gray was a goal of the former owner, and I guess adding a butte to a ski park sounds more impressive than saying you made it better and safer. Just my speculation, and I'm sure the more advanced skiers and snowboarders would disagree. It's not a perfect park, but all factors considered, I think it's one of the best parks in the state.
First and foremost, how cool is it to say, you skied or snowboarded down a volcano? The answer is incredibly cool! The views are spectacular, on a weekday there were basically no lines. Lots and lots of fresh snow. To top it off simply the whitest snow I have ever seen! The ski shop and pro shop and lodge are very small. It has a great local vibe. The staff are all very pleasant to talk with. Did I mention free parking? Yes, free parking with affordable lift tickets. I highly recommend a trip out here. Seriously one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever gone to for outdoor bliss!
Season ticket holder for 4 years. The last few years have been amazing. If you time a cold storm you can get world class conditions. Grey butte lift has been a game changer. My kids have all learned here and we've had amazing family time together. One of the last family ski mtns out there.
It was awesome going up the mountain during the summer had lunch at the top of the ski lift
Mt Shasta Ski Park is lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience here with friends! The mountain is moderately easy and the lines are quick even on a full day. The runs are not as challenging as some Ski Parks however it has a wonderful atmosphere, gorgeous views, and remember it is an active volcano!!! You bet I'll be returning... 🫶🏼
Spectacular privately run attraction. Well worth the narrow road to get there. First rate guides, cave formations you won't see elsewhere.
End of season after April 12th which was great for us because we wanted to play in the snow. Beautiful views of Mt. Shasta, it was a gorgeous day and we had fun!
I have skied here now three different days. Just last visit I decided to buy a season pass for next year so that says something! I really enjoy the mellow, friendly, laid-back atmosphere and lots of IPA on tap . I’m sure you already know that it’s a smaller community style ski hill. Not a big park like in Tahoe. I decided I prefer that. I am a blue run kind of scare will occasionally go on a black run to make my boyfriend happy. We are both quite content on the mountain, even though he could handle much more challenging ones than I prefer. We were there on weekdays each time so there was zero waiting for lifts . The big draw of Shasta ski park is the friendly folks. Nobody is judging critiquing or rushing. Kids are laughing, older people are smiling and all is well there. The ski lifts were great and I love the no lines. It is a bit for me to get used to that. They don’t have a bar in front to pull down because for some reason, I’m a little nervous about that! But the list are fast and no waiting!

Super unique and fun trail. The car ruins are awesome to see along the trail. The greenery is super beautiful. It is a super easy and short hike. It is a must see if you are in the area. It would be great for children.
A surprisingly good spot to stop by just before sunset. You can park on the side and walk down closer to the waters. Lake Siskiyou is clean and clear, so you can enjoy the reflection of the forest in the afterglow of the sun. Even driving down the road and turning right on Ream Rd, you can see a wonderful view of Mt. Shasta halfway down the road. There's a trail to the dam, though that's better enjoyed midday.
It’s a pretty big dam and it’s nice that you can get close to it. When I went there wasn’t any water coming out. Box Canyon Trail is a nice easy hike it takes you to the vehicle graveyard. This is a cool spot to look at all the old vehicles that were pushed down the canyon.
Beautiful! Its quiet with enough limited parking space for 5 to 7 SUV vehicles. Traffic is supposed to be 25mph but people still speed so be very careful when taking pictures.
Nice dam. Nothing spectacular, but if you’re in the area, nice place to stop.
Enjoyed the trail down to the car graveyard
Do you want to visit th dam? Forget it. It's surrounded by fence and wires. Also, as we are in a drought, they won't let any water out. So the dam is giant slap of dry concrete. The lake formed by the dam maybe worth visiting. I see people playing on the beaches.
I've been to Lake Sis-Q Campground Resort (very beautiful) and I knew the Box Canyon Dam (impounding the upper Sacto River forming Lake Sis-Q itself) but not an actual trail to hike.

Very appealing park...They have much more than I photographed. We spent time in the grassy area between where we parked and the baseball fenced in area. They have plenty of trees 🌳 😀 for shade. Some people were throwing a football and having a good time. All in All a great place to spend the day. Blessings, John
This was our 4th time coming up here to ice skate, and we love it! We drive an hour and a half to have fun and have my daughter practice. Today seemed like an off day for one of the employees. The employee that was there didn't tell us over the speakers to change directions and didn't let us know to exit the ice.
Nice wine and beer at the base of Mount Shasta. Lots of friends and wonderful folks. And great music
Great place for the Memorial day car show. Hope they will continue with the event.
Absolutely love this park! I’ve driven down to California from Washington 4 times this year and always stop. It’s super clean, good open flow, never too busy. The surrounding trails are awesome, big open park and nice bathrooms.
Well maintained park and ice skating rink! They offer lessons for all ages and have several sessions of ice skating throughout the day at a very reasonable price!
We stopped at Shastice Park the first night of our Summer road trip from Tigard, OR through Northern California. We stayed in Mount Shasta a couple of days to hike the amazing trails that are nearby. The Park is very close to town and very easy to get to. As seen in the photos there are amazing views of Mount Shasta from the park. And there are plenty of open green spaces to relax or picnic; as well as a very large Community Garden. The enclosed dog park is fantastic! It is very large, has plenty of trees for shade, has a water bowl and faucet, and has picnic tables. If you are in the area and are looking for an excellent dog park, then definitely give them it a try.
Beautiful peaceful and calm there's so many different areas here to go its my favorite lunch spot not to far from my work and its always relaxing
