Don't skip this park if you're passing along I-84 at Baker City Oregon. They offer expert displays and live interactive presentations. The park is only minutes away from the interstate and the entrance is easy to locate. The resrooms are very clean and their water station has the best tasting water. Views from the park are spectacular. You can see Baker City, mountains, the Oregon Trail, and the surrounding areas. Park staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Parking was easy and they have many places to picnic.
Fairly small museum with aging displays. Beautiful location with great views and trails to walk and view old out building and wagon road ruts. Lots to check out near by. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Lots of interaction with the kids around. Activity books and high fives were of plenty. Under $10 for entry. Kids free.
Out of the way Federal site near Baker City, Oregon. Worth visiting. The museum is good. Lots of excerpts from settlers diaries including some actual diaries. Good talk about the Oregon Trail. Long walk to the trail itself. When driving out you can park much closer to the actual trail and take a short walk to the trail.
This is a cool place to stop if you are passing through. Its in the middle of nowhere. The museum is nice with a lot of information. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You can get in with your park passes as well at no cost. The nearby town is pretty nice and a great place to stop after here.
“So what? It’s two ruts in the ground. Who cares?” We visited the interpretive center on a lark while in the area, and came away really moved by what we saw, experienced, and just the whole vibe of the area. This is one of those places that just feels IMPORTANT. Inside the interpretive center is a nice little museum with dioramas and information about the Oregon Trail and the travelers who took that route. Seeing the wagons in person really brings home the magnitude of the journey these people undertook. Then outside, there are multiple paths through the desert scrub to different parts of the Trail itself. And yes, standing in the ruts of the Oregon Trail just filled me with the most amazing vibe… there’s a weight to the place. You feel it. This is absolutely worth a detour to go visit, and my family and planning a return trip for next spring when the desert is blooming. It’ll be gorgeous.
Its a totally must see place. You get a up close look at what life was like back then. If you go, plan on being there for a few hours so you can take the time to really explore the building and give yourself some time to walk along the trail as well. If you have pets that come along, be sure to leave them home because theirs no shade in the parking lot anywhere and they highly recommend you don't leave them in the car.
I’ve been wanting to come here since its temporary closure around 2020, and finally made it. It was worth the wait. The exhibits are fabulous and well done. Walking in the preserved ruts is unmatched. I have to specifically call out Ken the ranger- if he is giving a talk, you MUST go. He is absolutely fantastic. The enthusiasm and knowledge he shares about this part of history is a joy to experience. I could listen to Ken talk for hours and regret I only got to enjoy the one talk. If you do one additional thing on your visit here, make sure it’s sitting down to listen to Ranger Ken.
A must see!!! Loved the displays. Very informative. Has a gift shop too. For veterans if you have a America the Beautiful pass you can use it here.

A vast array of artifacts and information about the Baker City History found here! The most amazing part was the huge donated rock and fossil collection. Highly recommend as a cool spot to explore and good for all ages.
This is an excellent stop along your drive. The museum is huge and extremely well organized. The rock collection is the coolest part, being donated by women.
This is a fantastic museum showcasing the history of the Baker City area. It also has one of the best mineral and rock collections I have seen. If your in the area, this is the spot to go to. Worth the price of admission. My wife and I thought it would be a quick one, we spent almost 2 hours seeing everything inside. Highly recommended...
I have visited quite a few museums and I have to say for a small town museum this one has a world class gem and minerals exhibit that will amaze you.. then there's the exhibit for one of my favorite movies of all time that was filmed in the area. "Paint Your Wagon" . So if you like rocks and gems, Oregon history and beautiful antiques, you don't want to miss this place.. I definitely recommend stopping by and checking this place out for yourself.. absolutely awesome.. plan for plenty of time because it takes a while to see it all..
Museum docent “Cathy” give us a warm welcome, and which introduction to this unique museum about the history of Baker county. We are Rockhounds who have been to natural history museums from New York to Istanbul, but the rock collection built by two sisters from Baker was by far the most diverse and most spectacular that we have ever seen! A fine exhibition about the local Chinese community was insightful, as was the educational panel set up in front of a bordello room. Tableau’s to show how mining and transportation were set up, along with displays of different shops and offices from the 1800s were very well done. We spent about 90 minutes, and then had a picnic across the street at a lovely little park with tables.
This Museum is amazing! So worth checking out. Cost is $8 to get in and the amount of things to see from the early days in Oregon is remarkable! Also if you are a rock hound and love nice specimens from the area and beyond with private collections on their stones is fabulous! Don't walk but run to go see this rad Museum!
Loved this museum. After watching 1823, the exhibits of wagons, provisions and stories was fascinating! Many other interesting things to see and learn, you're never too old! The volunteer ladies at the entry were gracious and knowledgeable, it was fun to swap stories with them as well.
This is such a great museum So much larger then I expected. They did such an amazing job covering the history of the area. If you gave sure you make more time then you think you will need there truly is a lot to see and it is worth every minute!!

We really enjoyed ourselves on the Christmas Train! If you are somewhat local, you can’t miss it! We went on a Sunday at 11am. It was real cold but we did fine in the open air car (there are 2) with all of our layers. The train ride is about 30 mins. Once in Sumpter at The Depot, some of our kids played outside in the snow while a few waited in line to see Santa. It was a long wait but Santa gave each group 5+ minutes of undivided attention. Snacks were cookies, donuts, candy, and cuties. Cocoa table was packed but we just waited and it was fine. Cute little picture taking setup around back. Then 30 mins back on the train. Our kids are age 3-13 years and they all had fun!! Staff was friendly and funny on the train 🚂
We had an amazing train ride for my son’s birthday. The weather was perfect, the train ride was just the right length with beautiful scenery. We can’t wait to come back again for a train robbery next time.
Great experience riding the Sumpter Valley Railroad. Every volunteer staff member was helpful, friendly, and made our trip fun. We were lucky/fortunate to get to ride in the engine with Engineer John. Would highly recommend riding the train. We will be making this trip again this next summer.
It was closed, we missed it being open by a few days. Next time we will chech their schedule first. Walking about the rail yard was fun. If you do walk the yard, use common sense as there are multiple hazards about.
It was closed. We were disappointed because it looked awesome. Still snow.. Took a few pics anyways. Will go back in the warmer months.
If you have time, I recommend a train ride at the Sumpter Depot. It was a nice tour of the historical mining town.
We had a great time on the steam engine train ride to Sumpter. The scenery was lovely, and the crew had a lot of information about the history of trains in that area. All crew members were informative and fun! We especially enjoyed the train robbery "show" with our defenders on board the train. A great experience!
Was closed when I was there. There are many trails you can walk. We walked down by the river it was very beautiful & peaceful. I recommend stopping if your in town and the old Dredge is right around the corner that's a must see. There is a tour guide to fill you up with so much information he's also very nice have fun 😊

I went inside of it, and the original furnishings are in place which gives it an antique vibe. You got to go to the Baker City Museum to buy the tickets, and you'll love it.
The house is gorgeous and the lady’s who fixed it up did an amazing job. Our tour guide was very nice. Leo was a great guy!
Fascinating. The reconstruction is like original. I can tell many hours were contributed to restoration. History is well preserved. Guides were well informed. Definitely recommend this stop, when in Baker
Cool place to see. Love the history of Baker City and Leo Adler. Everything in hear is so cool and as a 15 year old, the furniture and design of this house is neat to see. It's cool to see how far we've come in technology even though we shouldn't let it take over our life. Lady was very nice and extremely informative. NOTE: ASK QUESTIONS because she can inform you on other things. Reccomend coming here and enjoy if you do. 😊
Such rich history here. Honor the man who continues to give back to his community years after he is gone, schedule a tour today! I myself am a recipient of a scholarship in his name, helping me get through school. This place is beautiful and worth the visit!
Volunteers/employees really know their stuff! The tour was really interesting and had a ton of great info. Definitely a must-visit place if you're in Baker.
This was surprisingly good. Voluneer led tour was quite informative and the house nicely preserved. Came as a two-fer with museum admission and qas the better of the two!
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour with a detailed, informative, friendly narration. Despite being terrified of heights (ascending staircase), would do it all again. 🤗

I had heard of this place from a friend who had a spiritual experience here. I am so grateful for those who put this together to honor those who did so much with little recognition and respect. I am grateful I took a moment here to meditate and reflect. Very grateful.
Interesting history. I’ve never been to a Chinese cemetery before and I love cemeteries.
Enjoyed this stop along the way.. Good history. I Stopped for my bf (kip). He has Chinese heritage..good place to take a moment of silence and meditate.
03/30/2022 Interesting piece of history. Very peaceful. There are short trails throughout. One car can fit in the gravel parking spot. So you may have to park on the street.
A rarely heard part of Baker City history. A must see because photos don't do it justice
Very interesting historical site. I was staying at the fuel stop parking lot across the cemetery. At first I didn't know it's a cemetery. But I was curious what that little Chinese structure garden gazebo. So I walked closer and I saw the sign. I wondered is there a caretaker of this cemetery. It need to clear or trim some bushes for walkway.
Neat location, wish people would be more respectful and not treat it like a garbage can
Great gem i the middle of a city.

I really like the vibe of this place! It's very down to earth, dark inside with wooden seats and tables. Not only does this place have really good drinks, but the food here was yummy as well! This was the first place on our road trip where I tried country fried steak and it was amazing. The perfect thickness and size of meat, the Gravy was flavorful, I honestly had no complaints. My boyfriend got the steak and really liked it as well. He said the steak was nice and tender. We had some drinks with dinner and I really liked the boozy hot chocolate! It was cold outside so this was smoothing and not too sweet.
Food was very good. Service was good. Gave 4 stars, because (and I recognize this is kind of my own pet peeve) the receipt calculated and suggested tips for the customer. The old building was really neat, though. Especially enjoyed the coffered ceiling (see photo). There may have been a plaque there explaining the history of the building, but we didn't have time to look. If there isn't one, there should be!
Barley Brown’s Beer is a must-stop spot if you’re anywhere nearby. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, with great people and a laid-back environment. Their beers are tasteful, full of flavor, and truly satisfying—hands down, their Pallet Jack IPA is the standout. They don’t serve food here, but that’s no problem since there are plenty of great places to eat nearby. Come here for the beer and the vibe—you won’t be disappointed. Definitely worth the stop!
This was absolutely amazing. The waitress Shelby was phenomenal in helping my parents with their selection of Beer. And the food was amazing! I had the Salmon and it was delicious, but the mashed potatoes were the star. They were so creamy and absolutely delicious.
Great pub atmosphere and really amazing beer selection. Their tap house across the street has an even wider selection. The food was lovely as well! The restaurant side is a great atmosphere also - families would likely be comfortable here.
I love this establishment! It’s perfect for a casual date night but also easy to bring your group in for a celebration. The atmosphere is comfortable & visually interesting, the menu has something for everyone, is delicious & consistent & the cocktails match the menu and are easy to pair with your palette. The staff is attentive, capable and friendly.
Went here with a few friends for dinner. The food, service, and beer were all good. Pricing was what you'd expect from a pub. Everything was great
A very cute, nice place! I had a great dinner here! The atmosphere was nice - they had cute saloon doors and very nice booths as well as a bar area. The menu had a lot of options, mostly American kind of foods. I tried one of the burgers and it was great! Fries were good, burger and sauce were good. Didn't have to wait too long for food and the service was great. The hostess and waitress were both super friendly. I really enjoyed this pub and would definitely go back! They also had homemade lemonade that was fantastic.

We have been purchasing the spirits at Glacier 45 since they opened and we still can’t stress enough how superb the product is. Spirits of this quality have no business being sold at such a reasonable price point. G45 is the recipient of multiple awards and accolades for quality and excellence. Visiting fine eating establishments in locations such as Las Vegas, Boise, and their hometown, Baker City, you will find their vodkas, gin and their stellar uncut bourbon behind the bar and available for whatever cocktail you’re in the mood for. When in Baker City, OR, do yourself a favor and stop into their beautifully renovated main street distillery and tasting room.
We were just passing through on our road trip from Washington to Texas and are so glad we found Glacier 45! Excellent family distillery with great flavors and a large selection of spirits. We've traveled the country and been to too many distilleries to count, some are good, some are great and some are even better! Glacier falls in the even better category! We got to meet the entire family in our short visit and it's no wonder they've lasted so long! Sometimes making great spirits isn't enough, their personality definitely comes out with every sip! Between the three of us we tasted all the spirits and each found our favorites! Mine was the gin, oh so smooth and easy, hubby's was the whiskey and our daughters was the cinnamon whiskey. The cinnamon whiskey is not sweet and syrupy like so many of the others, it's crisp, clean and smooth! We'll be back for sure!
The 4 of us walked in and were greeted by Kyana! She explained the process and even talked about the local area. We loved the vodka sampling and left with our purchases. We highly recommend and will be back!!!
Clean tasting spirits with unique flavors. I never wondered how a cucumber vodka would taste, but you can sample one here. That'd make a great summertime cocktail. Kyana was very friendly and happy to answer any questions we had about her family-owned distillery. We had a great visit. – Oy!
A true gem! Smooth/delicious spirits loaded with fantastic flavor. Great variety of flavors with careful attention to detail and quality evident in each product offered. Beautiful tasting room with wonderful staff and cocktail recipes. I love that it is family owned and operated.
Tasty vodka. Great conversation with the owner. Even though they were closed He let me in. Bought the Huckleberry Vodka.
What an amazing place! Let me start off by saying I don't like vodka; I enjoyed every sample they gave us. The staff was super knowledgeable both about spirits in general and about their products. The experience was super enjoyable, I ended up going home with their Gin (another drink I am not usually fond of). If you are anywhere within 20 miles of this place add this in as one of you must visit places!
Glacier 45 makes some amazing spirits. Their Huckleberry is by far our very favorite (add it to a little 7-up and you won't be disappointed), and the cucumber is incredibly refreshing. So far the only one we've tried and haven't been a big fan of has been the pepper (but we don't really do spicy- although the hot cinnamon is great).
