Mountaintop estate with a 1913 mansion on 5,500 acres with lake views, hiking & a restaurant.

This is a great place to visit if you're in southern New Hampshire. We stopped there as part of our RV Fantasy tour and really glad that they planned this excursion on the way to our next campground. This Mansion is not really all that big but built in a beautiful location on top of mountain. It was built in 1913 and has been very well restored. Kind of like the Biltmore in North Carolina this place had all the modern conveniences of the time. Anyway you park in one location, walk up get your tickets, and then catch a trolley to the top of the mountain. After initial orientation speech / video it's a self-paced tour through the mansion. Once you're done you can either walk down a trail back where you started at or catch the trolley back down. Anyway the tickets are relatively cheap, and there's a cafe where do you catch the trolley if you want to eat lunch there.
We had a beautiful day exploring this lovely place on pur 51st anniversary. I always wanted to go here as a child, but never made it. It was on my bucket list. We loved our tour of the basement to see the inner workings! The views were amazing!
I didn't know this place existed. We didn't go up to the castle, but we did walk around the grounds and go into the restaurant and bar area of the barn. It was really nice and they had a nice fire going. The outdoor patio here has an amazing view of the lakes. The waterfalls hike was nice, but I would recommend coming in Spring since there is probably more water.
Great 10k sf house built 1914 with arts and craft construction and many new inventions of the time. Beautiful views from every room. Hiking trails with waterfalls. Restaurant on site. Could easily spend the day.
Wonderful day trip with stunning views and fantastic hiking trails on 5000 acres. The website has great photos of the castle and detailed history. I highly recommend the basement tour.
Very interesting house, well presented with great access to all the rooms. A lot of the original features and furniture are in place. The staff are very knowledgeable and able to answer questions and provide insights. The basement tour is recommended, but also sells out, booking in advance is recommended. Everyone from the admission office to the maitre'd at lunch was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend lunch on the terrace if the weather is suitable. The views are incredible.
Very nice park with hiking trails, a casual restaurant with a view that we didn't eat at, and a self guided house tour that one has to take a dus to from the restaurant/lower building. My folks took the house tour, they said it wasn't their style, it's Arts and Crafts, very natural, browns and tans, my style, I'll have to get back to see the house.
I love the architecture of this house and that thought that was put into making it. The history is fascinating. The outdoor gardens are full of beautiful flowers too.

The General Store in Moultonborough, NH, is a true gem that combines small-town charm with an impressive variety of quality products. Walking in, you immediately feel the warmth of the community, as the friendly staff greets you with smiles and helpful recommendations. Whether you're in the market for local groceries, specialty items, or unique gifts, this store has it all. Their selection of locally sourced goods, from fresh produce to homemade jams and baked goods, is a highlight that sets them apart. It’s not just a place to shop—it's a gathering spot where you can grab a cup of coffee, chat with the locals, and experience the heart of Moultonborough.
Cool store with lots of different merchandise both old and new. Its a lot bigger than it looks. The museum was upstairs and was just a bunch of old stuff with no real explanation to it.
So much stuff. Many rooms to see. Can easily talk you over 30 minutes to see it all. Make sure to buy a barrel fresh dill or sour pickle. Lots of free parking in the back. Restrooms are portapotties in the parking lot.
Such a great find off the beaten path. The store is filled with a lot of great souvenirs and snacks. The museum is free and is up the stairs.
2 words. Pickle Barrel. This place was here when I was young so it was cool to experience it with my kids. I hope they will with theirs.
One of my favorite places to visit in the Lakes Region since my childhood. A great variety of local souvenirs. Be sure to visit the museum upstairs. And...don't miss out on the Best pickles in the pickle barrel near the register!
Museum and building were cool to see as well as the horses and coach in the front window.
A really neat little old store, real old world New England vibes mixed with new world trinkets and snacks. A great spot to pick up a few momentos or treat the kids to a couple toys (plus they have original bottled Moxie if you're a real New Englander). Friendly staff and a fun place to just poke around. If you're in the area, stop in and check them out.

Very nice place. Beautiful building and very kind service. There are lots of displays it's a beautiful environment and there's a 20-minute movie and a good orientation in the gift shop. It's a nice place to visit and an important cause to support. Nice place to take kids you want to teach about nature or your family or friends for a short day trip. There is a wonderful trail loop and set of trails behind it and it's a wonderfully flat gorgeous walk through the woods that is perfect for young and old. It's a really exquisite area.
The Frederick and Paula Anna Markus Wildlife Sanctuary, in partnership with the Loon Preservation Committee, is a true hidden gem. The sanctuary offers a peaceful retreat into nature, with beautifully maintained trails and serene views perfect for birdwatching and quiet reflection. The staff and volunteers are passionate, knowledgeable, and clearly dedicated to preserving New Hampshire’s iconic loons. A visit here is both inspiring and educational—an ideal spot for nature lovers and conservation enthusiasts alike.
Went here to see Loons. Walked into a snake, tons of flies and mosquito's, and the markers are a joke. I got lost in that forest. Did'nt see one bird. Do not go in there without hiking boots. Never again.
Such an informative and beaufully ran place. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any live loons (was labor day weekend). But we did enjoy a gorgeous hike, had some mushroom peepin & had a very nice chat with two amazing employees! Will definitely be returning in the near future!
We visited The Loon Center on the Markus Wildlife Sanctuary today which was closed for renovations, but we hiked the 1.5 mile Loon Nest Trail. It was an easy hike, well-marked and had some views of brooks and marches as well as several views of Lake Winnipesaukee. Not much wildlife activity today. Several benches are available for resting and for viewing. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any Loons. Four-star rating because of the Loon Center’s mission, however I would give the trail an uninteresting three-star rating.
Loved the live web cam of two nesting!!!
Short informative video. Great rainy day activity which took < 1 hour. Not able to walk the trail due to the weather.
The trailers an easy hike for me. I loved all the Big rocks. It is a mostly shaded walk. I would recommend it.

We stop here every year to pick blueberries while we wait to check in to our rental property. The place is beautiful, and the blueberries are plentiful. My kids love it. The owners are super nice too. Cash only. Honor system.
Just picked 3 quarts! They are very good and tasty. Had plenty to pick and some still green. I plan to go back next week for more.
amazing blueberries! bountiful, organic and fun for kids.
Just picked a ton of beautiful blueberries! Highly recommend. Make sure you call ahead they are very responsive. They do take Venmo or cash. Very nice family! Can’t wait to come back!
Fresh and healthy products, and the owners are very friendly and hospitable. We really enjoyed visiting this place and look forward to going back there soon.
Highly recommend for families or anyone looking to enjoy nature and take home the freshest fruit!
Amazing blueberries!
Wonderful late season blueberries and fresh picked peaches!!

Casual Cape has fabulous country furniture and decor. Norm and Vera are constantly rotating and adding new stock. Have never walked out of their store without buying something. Stop by, you won’t be disappointed. 😊
Great little shop, just keeps going, room to room... always something to see. My wife and I stop here each time we make it up through Moultonborough. Don't think we have had a time yet we haven't found something we couldn't live without. Very friendly courteous as well as knowledgeable staff. This place is definitely a treat.
Very nice shop in Moultonboro, NH. Take a yearly trip at holiday time. Great assortment of holiday themed items. Usually have fresh hot cider and a variety of cookies and dips to try.
Fantastic assortment of delightful things for home and cabin alike! Prices are excellent and the owners are absolutley wonderful, personable and fun to chat with! I always look forward to my trips North and visits to their store!
We stop in at the Casual Cape, to see what’s new, every time we are in the Moultonborough NH area. We Love this beautifully decorated home decor shop and friendly owners!
Fantastic selection of home furnishings and decor items. High quality and reasonably priced. And the owners are great at finding what you're looking for. Excellent!
One of my favorite shops for unique gifts. Owners are so friendly too!
Fun, cute items at reasonable prices. The store is much bigger than it appears, rooms full of great decor!

I went on a one hour ride today with my family. We had a wonderful time! Our guides were very friendly and the horses were very gentle. if you are first time riders, this would be a great first trail ride. We rode past several waterfalls and on top of a ridge where we had an amazing view! I definitely recommend Riding in the Clouds... and my horse, Jerry. He is a sweetheart!
We were a little nervous being first time riders but the staff took good care of us and we had a super time. The animals were gentle and awesome. I would do it again.
We had a great ride yesterday. The weather was perfect to be outside. The views were beautiful and we had plenty of time to spend with the horses. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for something new and fun to do outside. The horses were great with people. We can't wait to come back again!
We LOVED our ride at Riding In The Clouds. Our horses were beautiful , obviously well cared for, and very obedient. The trail was stunningly beautiful beyond measure with lovely views. Our trail guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and we liked her and trusted her immediately. The horses didn't put a foot wrong . We plan on becoming regulars at Riding In the Clouds. And are looking forward to many more lovely trail rides in spring, summer, and fall. This is by far the best trail riding stable we have ever been to and we are not young women! My sister, Sandy, and I had a wonderful time!
Great place very responsible staff friendly horses prices are fair good times for families.
I just wanted to say that the experience we had here was just fantastic. I took my 12 year old grand daughter for her first horseback trail ride. The guide was great. She actually had to be stern with a couple of teenaged kids who were sort of ignoring her when she was doing the initial instructions. (and i am glad she did - they hadn't ridden before and seemed to think it would be like a riding a carousel horse and not a live animal). Our ride was a lot of fun. We also put my grandson on the horse for a pony ride. He loved it. All the horses I saw were quiet and calm. We can't wait to go back again.
A fabulous place to enjoy beautiful animals and a gorgeous view. The staff is exceptional. It is our 2nd time making a 2 1/2 hour trip. The first time there was for horse back riding in the fall. It was so fun - We decided to go back for a wonderful sleigh ride this winter.
We scheduled a ride for the afternoon and mentioned that we had ridden before. No one told us before the ride that we would have to walk the horses the whole way. When we were out on the ride for a while, I asked our guide if we could cantor and she said that they are not allowed to cantor or do anything but walk. My wife was VERY disappointed and so was I: I can’t recall a trail ride where we walked the horses for an hour. Most of the ride is in the woods with minimal scenery, the end of the ride, where they take pictures has a nice view of the lake and the mountains. If this is your first ride, I am sure it would be a fun experience, but if you want to do anything else but walk your horse for an hour I would look elsewhere.

Had the opportunity to play 18 with a friend. So glad we played. Easy And friendly check in, great putting green and large and very cool range. Floating golfballs and target greens. The course was in top notch condition, greens were firm yet receptive to approach shots. Rolled true and a bit fast. Beauty views. Went in for a refreshing brew and snack! Service was great and very friendly! WE WILL BE BACK!
Am absolute gem in the lakes region. It was meticulously maintained and the natural views and scenery are stunning. The layout is creative and inviting and overall my new favorite golf course in the region. New management gets an A+ for the continued renovations and improvements. We will be back!!!
Beautiful golf course that’s well maintained all around. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. Plus, it has a great driving range– the only aqua range in NH! Definitely recommend playing here if you get the chance.
Great course with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. Greens were firm and fairways were well-kept. Had lunch at the clubhouse after and the food was way better than what you'd normally expect from a golf clubhouse. Overall good experience and I will definitely be back.
This course is a must play! The views were beautiful, and the layout made for a really fun round. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and you can tell the new ownership is really taking pride in the place. I've played here before and they are noticeably stepping it up. We stopped for lunch after the round and the food was excellent. I had the Birch Hill Nuggets, best buffalo tenders I've had in a long time! Definitely worth checking out!
Beautiful day to eat outside on the deck. Friendly service. Nice views of the golf course. Plenty of parking. Usual bar food menu but some with a twist. We all had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Is was fried brined chicken breast, nicely crisp slightly spicy with a Nashville hot sauce, lettuce, tomato and topped with house cole slaw. It was messy but delicious! Fries were tasty but not crispy. We would good back!
The family and I come here for lunch and dinner when we are on vacation as the service is usually good and the menu is simple but tasty. The last experience recently was pretty bad. Items forgotten, incorrect order brought to table, my wife is gluten free and they brought a salad to the table with croutons despite asking them to be left off. They were also out of a lot of common menu items easily obtained from a local supermarket. Waitress was generally inattentive. These are all very solvable problems and we'll try again at some point... hoping they are resolved by then.
Well kept course back is better than the front.with all the forced carries they should have signs telling the yardage to trouble lot of fun and time wasted trying to figure out what to hit.several holes ,I think one or two had plaques on the tee box but usually u had to look as grass was covering them up so u couldn't see them unless u looked closely. Or put on scorecard!

This is a wonderful family owned business that deserves everyone support because they care about their customers. We needed a two person kayak, which was hard to find. They worked directly with old town to get the exact one I wanted. They were very patient and kind. Their wonderful service allowed my dad to have a great week of kayaking. I can’t recommend Trexler enough.
Great selection and very reasonable pricing. Staff was helpful and informative and willing to take the time to explain different parts/options to a couple of novice boaters. Additionally staff offered up wide range of options that ran the price spectrum rather than just forcing the most costly items.
Best Marina on Lake Winnipesaukee! Purchased my Manitou Tri-toon boat from Trexler's. I was such a rookie but Scott explained everything I needed to know and always made me feel great after numerous visits and phone calls. It is such a pleasure dealing with Trexler's. Scott, Denise, Quinlan and their entire staff are so friendly and helpful. Really good genuine people and the services are great. My family and I are loving the boat and are creating such great family memories. Thank you so much Trexler's Marina. Ralph P.
I purchased a boat from this dealer 4 years ago & have had nothing but good things to say about them. They store your boat for the winter & I have nothing stolen out of my boat, a first for me. They perform any needed work on your boat during the winter & spring, before you arrive in the spring. The only time I had needed them during the summer I called them, & was told to bring the boat to them that day so they could do the repair quickly. When you arrive in the early summer they deliver your boat to your dock & are no charge. Everyone at this marina treat their customers like family. A wonderful marina experience.
I only ever go to get gas for the jet ski and I've never had an issue easy pull up the girls are always polite and friendly. My father in law on the other hand has been using them for about twenty years for all of his boat needs from buying to storing for the winter to maintenance and repairs and he swears by them won't go anywhere else. Says his business practice is on point they put the customer first before profit and that's why he's been so successful
Come to find out, it’s the owner who has the Rudest customer service! The woman behind the desk is snappy and rude! Normally I don’t leave negative feed back, but I was so blown away that someone would be so very rude! She informed us that our 2 infants are “toddlers” when both are under 15 months! She said 8 adults could go on the boat! We have 8 adults and they refused to let us rent due to “two many people” after we confirmed via text at 11pm last night. I informed her that other boat companies are renting to their clients and she stated “well then go there”! Clearly, they are all full! As a business owner, never ever would I treat People with such disrespect!
Rented a boat from them during our vacation. Brand new pontoon was beautiful! Prompt service and amazingly helpful. We will be back! TY!
Been boating for over 50 years ..recently downsizedand bought a small 18 footer from here...small but they treated me like it was a 35 footer.. I was treated respectfully throughout the entire process...nice peeps... I got a really fair deal... I would and do recommend Trexlers whenever I can!!
