A great experience for families. A great variety of birds, including hawks, owls, vultures, and the crowd favorite bald eagles. There were signs detailing the names at each of the enclosures. The benches provided an opportunity to eat and relax , and there was plenty of grass for the kids to run freely. There was also a small outdoor shop selling shirts and other nice trinkets.
Great experience. The two flying demos allowed us to be so close to 8 birds from all over the world. The burrowing owl demo in particular was very impressive. They had a tunnel structure built into the amphitheater that showed off how they behave in their natural habitat. My family spent an hour walking the grounds and seeing the unreleasable birds they have on display. I have not seen this variety of birds at any other facility. AThe staff were very knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions we had. I highly recommend visiting the Center for Birds of Prey to anyone, whether they are a bird enthusiast or a family that just wants to learn something new. All proceeds go to supporting the Center and the medical and rehabilitation facility that is associated with it.
What a perfect way to spend a day outdoors. We were able to see the raptors up close, take pictures and ask questions before the flying exercise started. When these large birds flew around the audience, it was such an exciting experience. The staff is so informative, friendly and patient while answering all of our questions. The young children there had tons of questions, so a visit to the center is a great learning experience for children (and us adults).
I would highly recommend a day at the Birds of Prey. The presentations were excellent, we learned so much, and seeing the birds up close was amazing. Everyone was friendly and eager to share information .
We bought the tickets online, there’s no building to go to so as we left the car, they simply checked to see who paid online and we immediately said hello to a bird who is the size of a dove but eats her own body weight worth of another bird! Be sure to walk around the enclosures and check out the flight demonstrations. They have a gift shop by the parking lot.
What an amazing day! Up close experiences with birds of prey and incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff. We spent the entire day here, and weren’t bored once. The work this company does is absolutely amazing, and their love for birds was apparent.
My wife and I took our Granddaughter to the Center for Birds of Prey for a Saturday show and tour. What an amazing place! We thoroughly enjoyed everything, these volunteers have a true passion for this place and it shows! Plan to return soon!
Amazing place to see these birds up close! Very educational and the staff are great!! Plan to spend the day; lots to take in!

Fantastic ferry ride with the captain and naturalist . Stopped to see dolphins, minks , seabirds . Naturalist gave us lot of interesting and educational information about the waterway and Bulls Island . Bulls island was the best adventure while visiting South Carolina sea coast
I can honestly say I didn't expect much from our ferry ride to Bulls Island, aside from a simple half-hour boat trip. However, I was pleasantly surprised! Captain Nick, along with his first mate, whose name I unfortunately can't recall, were absolutely fantastic. Nick's passion for his role was evident in every interaction; he genuinely cares about the people embarking on this journey to and from Bulls Island. His knowledge was remarkable—he shared fascinating insights about the diverse bird species we encountered, the changing tides, playful dolphins, and the unique shells scattered along the shoreline. It felt less like a typical ferry ride and more like an engaging adventure filled with learning. The way he conveyed information made it enjoyable and captivating. I wholeheartedly recommend Captain Nick as the ideal guide for anyone looking to explore the wonders of Bulls Island!
Excellent trip in every way!!! Captain Nick was professional, personable, and all around awesome. It was a very small group that went out, eight of us total, which made it easy to enjoy the remoteness of the island. Trails were well marked. They had benches placed sporadically so you could sit and take a quick break if you needed to like I did. Coming back, we had to duck between storm cells and Captain Nick did so with great expertise. We had total trust in him. I definitely recommend going to Bull's Island and highly recommend Coastal Expeditions who run the ferry. We are definitely going to check out some of the other tours they run!
Great day out on Bulls Island. The guides are knowledgeable and generous; especially patient with my kids peppering them with questions. Half a day would be tough to squeeze all the things in, but a full day was a bit much for us. A 2pm return would’ve been perfect, but alas, we made the most of it and ended up hiking 8+ miles and seeing LOTS of wildlife.
Beautiful area with plenty of parking. The pier was well kept and clean. Lots of boats going in and out making it feel comfortable. Lots of wildlife and saw some dolphins.
My wife and I went on the 12:00 ferry ride. We wish we did the 9:00 and stayed the whole day. The boat captain was super knowledgeable and very nice! Not just a tour guide but an actual biologist. We saw a few pods of dolphins and tons of different types of birds, the island itself was beautiful! I hate to review this place only because so much of its special beauty is because it is so private and peaceful.
Had a great time, our Captain and 1st mate were awesome. We were treated to an amazing day at Bulls Island. We will definitely do this again, but I think more in the spring. I can't think of anything else they could have done to make it better. They really knocked out of the park.
Our captain and naturalist was awesome! His knowledge of the bird life, environment and history of the island left no question unanswered. Humor thrown in at no charge! This place can't be beat for seeing nature as untouched as anywhere in the United States! Summer is hot, have realistic expectations, some bugs, not as many as we expected. Humidity was not overwhelming and this is the middle of summer. Totally worth the beach walk in the breeze!

Abby and Caleb were lovely, kind, and experienced guides. We felt right at ease with their professionalism, clear communication, and treated all of us age 65 down to 10 year old with the upmost respect. We had a spectacular day and highly recommend Charleston Adventure Forrest zipline . Do not hesitate to book. You won’t be disappointed!
My sister and I brought our niece for her 15th birthday present and we all had so much fun! Upon arriving, the front desk worker Sydney was very friendly. She let us know we could go see the farm animals, play yard games and hang out until it was our time to Zipline. The animals were well taken care of and super sweet. They had music playing throughout the property. They do have bathrooms and they were very clean. Due to being in the middle of the woods, they are on a well so keep that in mind (water can smell bad sometimes). Our guides were short Abby & Max. If you are able to get them, you’re in for 2 hours of fun & jokes including tree puns. From the beginning, they were very informative & along the way made sure we were comfortable and had fun. We highly recommend this experience! It’s a hidden treasure in the Charleston area. Don’t forget to look for Johnny & Charlotte…RIP
Great family owned business. Folks are really helpful and kind. Took a group of 10 kids for a birthday and they all loved it. Strongly encourage others to try
I honestly had a blast for the first time ever doing Ziplining. Tyson and Ava were amazing and some of the funniest people I have met, they were well trained and always care about our safety no matter what! If I can come back I will check this place out. If they see this I think if they did like a haunting zip line night one time would be fantastic! I'm also from out of state on vacation so I'm glad I found this 😁
Our experience at Charleston Zipline was fantastic!  We hosted our seven-year-old's birthday there, 20 kids in attendance!  Kerry and her team put out all the stops to ensure that the party ran smoothly.  The weather, along with an accident on 17, created some delays for our group….but their team had it under control with accommodating the late arrivals. We felt at ease, as their team ensured all children new to zip lining felt comfortable and safe. And most importantly - have fun!  All the families in attendance commented on "how cool" this place was and "what a perfect place for a birthday party".  Our daughter had a blast along with her friends, and Mom and Dad high-fived.  Highly recommend for parties, day adventures, or field trips.
Decided to go zip lining as a day date with my wife, sort of to do something without the kids away from the house. We have a 2yo and twin girls under a yo so going out to do something fun like this together is always a challenge. It was our first time, we both enjoyed the experience including the corny dad jokes and puns by our fantastic guides Abby and Ava…I’m mean Brooke and what’s her face?! Haha thoroughly entertaining, we’re definitely coming back, maybe to rock climb or to blacksmith and maybe show our kids the animals they have.
We had a great time today. Our instructors were very informative and made everyone smile. Appreciate an amazing experience. Thank you 👍
My friend and I went ziplining in Charleston, and even though the weather was less than ideal, we had an absolute blast! Scott and Abby were amazing… so fun, personable, and enthusiastic. They made the experience even better and really added to the adventure. Highly recommend this ziplining experience to anyone visiting Charleston!

Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge actually stretches 22 miles along the coastline down to Bulls Island, just South of the Myrtle Beach area. The tour group we had, Coastal Expeditions, was awesome not just with the tour, but in their other associated programs that they run and giving tons and tons of information about the ecology and history of the area. Great, beautiful area, definitely worth looking into a visit to Bulls Island and Boneyard Beach.
This photo was taken during the August 21,2017 solar eclipse. Cape Romain was the last U.S. point of the eclipse and lasted for 2:39. Awesome!
Not actually the a Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge! This is a private camp. You cannot drive down the dirt road behind the metal gate.
Ocean will wash coast or land AWAY every year !! It called "King Tides" You can check google about "King Tides". King Tides mean "sea level rise" or " ocean over the land "!
Very cool spot to watch the eclipse; interesting wolf program

Very cool center with nice displays and some red wolves.
The Visitor's Center wasn't open the day I visited but I happened upon an employee who opened it up so I could take a look around. He answered questions I had about the red wolves and pointed me in the right direction to their pen. He also knew where to look for the Red-cockaded Woodpeckers in the area. The wolf pen was a quick walk along a boardwalk near the gazebo. As of 12/11/23, there was a playful four year old male wolf and a 10 year old female who is showing her age. I never did get eyes on a red-cockaded woodpecker but other birds including red-bellied and downy woodpeckers were more easily seen and heard.
Super cool center totally worth it. So much information great exhibits cool video. Great for all ages and a great walk. It is a great thing to do in the area.
If you like the wild life of the low county then you will love it here. Definitely check out the wolves!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit the center was quite nice we saw some alligator in the ponds and learned a lot about the red wolves from Wolfman Rob.
Beautiful day to go for a nice peaceful hike and visit. Got to meet Rob the “Wolf-man”. Learned some interesting facts from him about the Red Wolf 🐺. No crowds and the place is well kept. The trails look practically new on the self guided trail hike.
The visitor center was closed. We assumed due to Covid19. We were able to walk the trails. It was a treat to see baby & adult alligators & the red wolves. Definitely recommend!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sewee Environmental Center is a fantastic spot for all ages, especially for big groups and kids! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they offer engaging educational programs that make learning about nature fun. The trails are beautiful, and there’s so much to see—from wildlife to the scenic marshes. It’s a great place to explore, and kids love the hands-on exhibits and activities. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an enriching outdoor experience!

Found Captain Christian last year while in the area and he has become a staple for every visit to the Charleston area. This man has a great boat and equipment, is an expert at his craft and the area and will put you on fish ! Highly recommend.
I just finished my second charter with Christian and I brought my wife this time. She has been telling everyone it was the best day of fishing she has ever had. Christian is an amazing captain and a really good dude. We will be back to fish with him again. Highly recommended!!
Christian is a fantastic Guide. Very knowledgeable on the local water and wild life. As a guide my self in Colorado I love finding young guides that are passionate and patient and very fishy. Christian is all of these. He got my wife and I on lots of red fish. We had a fantastic time and will be coming back again.
Christian made this a great experience. This was our first time in Bulls Bay and Christian put us on fish from the start. He was patient and really good at teaching us the fine points of inshore fishing. Great boat to fish from and you could not ask for a better guide!! Thanks for the great day of fishing!
My wife and I had a blast with Capt Christian. He’s extremely knowledgeable and was an amazing teacher. We caught several redfish and even a sheepshead. He supplied all of the bait, rods, rigs, etc. Highly Recommend Capt Christian, can’t wait to get out there with him again!
We had an awesome time. We caught over a couple dozen red fish and a shark. We saw dolphins, sea turtles, and numerous birds. Captain Christian is awesome with answering questions and helping you out. We had a blast and we are already wanting to do it again.
Christian has fished the area for years and knows it very well. He was able to give us the exact type of fishing trip we were looking for and the whole experience was smooth.
Captain Cooley knows his way around the bay. Highly recommend him if you are looking to get out and catch fish!

Unbelievable experience. Very impressed. 5 to 6 bands, new writers and musicians, fire pits, many different seating options. Good pizza & foods. My family goes often, including 92 year old mom and beautiful Border Collie. Try 1 time & you'll be hooked.
Where to start! I came from low country in Cheraw, South Carolina and came further South to Charleston. It's a different kind country here. Just to tell ya, I come from out West. Folks here - Folks here are the same. They just wrangle the land and sea! It's good country here!
Our family loves the Wednesday night Barn Jams at Awendaw Green. It's a great party atmosphere with good music, entertainment for the kids (the playground area) and not too far from Charleston.
This is an amazing music venue! The people were super friendly, and the music was great. The atmosphere there could not be better, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling through or living in the Charleston and Awendaw area!
Had a blast with the family at Awan daw Green Live music and cool family atmosphere tucked away under live oak trees. Totally worth the adventure. Don't forget to bring your own cooler.
Nice venue. We had a great time at the Charleston Bluegrass Festival. Great lineup and vendors. Hope to come back next year.
Very relaxed place to chill and listen to some local musicians play. You can dress comfortably and they have several options for food. We came out to hear a friend Cody McGuire play and had a great time. Bring chairs just in case this place fills up quick. All outdoors so in the warmer months bring your bugspray too!!! It is the lowcountry😊 The only drawback for us is the distance out there and the time of day going in is rush hour traffic.
Coolest music venue in the South!!! Do Not Miss!!! Eddie is the best host ever!! Ask for Eddie, introduce yourself!! If you have been before- go back again!!

Terrific public shooting range located in Francis Marion National Park. Range officers ensure a safe friendly environment. Target stands are provided. Three covered pavilions for rifle, pistol and archery are clean and well maintained. Perfect location to enjoy a no cost target practice session. Rangers will offer instructions and advice, just ask for assistance if you need it. Had a really enjoyable time. Heading back next week.
Very clean and professional. Safety is clearly a priority from the moment you check in at the office. I didn’t catch his name, but the gentleman working the rifle range was very helpful and informative. Got my holographic sights on my AR dialed in perfectly! Definitely plan to go back again.
Just driving by, dropping in unprepared with me car gun and my carry. The rangers there were so nice, they hooked my up with a stand, a target, and friendly banter. Very organized, very safe. Very fun. Best free outdoor range I've been to.
Really can’t say enough good things about this place. The DNR guys that run it are absolute class and take safety and fun very seriously. Some really nice fellows. Ranges are very clean and very well managed. Highly recommend. Don’t break the rules or you’ll get yelled at.
👍 Nice public range, covered shooting area for shade & seating especially in the Summer, people generally clean up after themselves, and 90% of folks are safe & friendly. 🫡 Remember the basic FIREARM SAFETY RULES and help others abide by them too, for everyone's safety: 1) Treat every gun as if it's loaded: This rule prevents injury or damage when handling or transferring a weapon. When you pick up a gun, examine it to make sure it's unloaded. 2) Keep your finger off the trigger: Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you're ready to shoot. 3) Point the gun in a safe direction: A safe direction is one where a bullet can't hit anyone, even if it ricochets or penetrates a wall or ceiling. This rule is especially important when loading or unloading a gun. 4) Know your target: Only point the gun at what you're willing to destroy and be aware of what's around it. 5) Wear eye and ear protection: Wear appropriate protection when discharging the firearm.
This was my first time here at twin ponds rifle range and it was amazing. First off, we were here during the middle of the day in the middle of the week so it was not busy at all (I assume on the weekends it is probably slammed). It was VERY neat and clean, plenty of space and lots of coverage from the elements so you won't get wet while it's raining (until you have to get your targets). They have target stands, you need to bring your own paper targets. You are required to clean up everything when you are done, casings and targets. They have porta potties and there seems to be a decent amount of parking. There is a rifle side with 16 lanes and a pistol side with about 10-12 lanes(I didn't count). They also have a couple of lanes for archery. There are range officers there at all times. Will definitely be going back.
I took my grandson to Twin Ponds range and we really enjoyed ourselves. Matt was handling the pistol range and was extremely helpful and friendly. We hadn't been there in 5 years so we're a little rusty. Matt guided us safely and I highly recommend this range. Thanks to SCDNR for maintaining this facility.
Having read other’s reviews, it a great place to shoot. I remember when no authority was there. It was like the Wild West. Gave 3 stars because there is a power hungry range officer. VERY rude and controlling. Yes there needs to be someone in charge but this guy is totally over the top. I spent 15 years in combat units in the Army. I never had a range officer act out like this guy.

Awendaw Passage along the Palmetto Trail is an absolute gem! This trail offers a perfect blend of nature and serenity, making it a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels. The scenery is breathtaking, with stunning views of the marshes, forests, and waterways that showcase the natural beauty of coastal South Carolina. The trail is well-maintained, and the signage makes it easy to navigate. Whether you're hiking, birdwatching, or simply enjoying a peaceful walk, the calmness of the surroundings is unmatched. We spotted a variety of wildlife, from birds to small critters, which added to the experience. The boardwalk sections and scenic overlooks are especially beautiful, offering picturesque spots to stop and take in the views. It's a great trail for families, solo hikers, or groups, with plenty of shaded areas and resting spots along the way. I highly recommend starting in the morning to catch the sunrise over the marsh—it's absolutely magical! If you're in South Carolina and love the outdoors, Awendaw Passage is not to be missed. I can't wait to return!
What an absolute gem Went on a Tuesday midday in August Didn't see a soul FYI. Plenty of biting flies and a bit of roots after the first mile but it's a great little trail with beautiful views
This has been one of our favorite trails. Beautiful scenery, well groomed trail. Some muddy areas here and there, but this is the low country.
Easy walking but it's an over 9 miles out and back trail. Bug spray is one items that we recommend to bring otherwise you will be attacked by bugs!!We forgot to bring a bug repellent spray and we ended up going back out to highway 17 and went a nearby dollar general store...
Looking for ways to get out of the house during all this quarantine time... we spent the afternoon hiking here and loved it. Trails were pretty wet but we didn't mind, we enjoyed it. Long trail and lot's to see. The trail is right along the water so beautiful views and neat bridges all along.
Gorgeous trail; started at the canoe launch at the end of Rosa Green Rd and did the hike as an out-and-back toward Buck Hall Landing. Bonus: if you do it this way, parking is free and you get a bathroom break and cute picnic area in the middle of your trip. Views are nice, and the path is lovely if you're looking for some peace and solitude---I spent six hours here and, if you don't count wandering around Buck Hall Landing, I only ran into 2 other groups on the trail itself. The biodiversity is stunning; lots of neat plants and critters to check out if you're into that thing. Massive living oaks, pines, palms, beautyberry, a snake or two, and all sorts of crabs, birds, and orb weavers on the trail--I was also lucky enough to see some dolphins playing in the marsh! Yeah it's buggy as hell, but the trail runs along a waterway in the middle of the south---so, duh. Wear protective clothes, bring bug spray, and also make sure you have water (and maybe a few snacks). Highly recommend!
I decided to take my mountain bike on this trail during a recent visit to Charleston. While the views were phenomenal (☆☆☆☆☆) the mountain biking was not (☆) due to the overwhelming amount of bare tree roots on the trail. I was riding a Marin hardtail and it was difficult to get any rythym going due to the roots. I think this would make an excellent walking trail but I will look to ride elsewhere on my next visit.
I was born and raised in Charleston but sad to say this was my first time on the Awendaw trail. Definitely not the last as it was a PERFECT experience! Thank you in advance to those that wrote reviews as being prepared was why it was so perfect. July in Charleston w our rains can bring brutal mosquitoes so BE prepared! We wore short sleeved shirts but quickly added a thin, breathable layer. Sunscreen and bug spray is a must. Surprisingly though, the majority of the trail is magically shaded and we had a breeze in some spots. Neither of us walked away w one bite! I am training for the JMT trail and have an adventurous friend so we both wore Oboz boots and Darn Tough socks, perfect for the trail. The biggest hurdle was avoiding the Banana Spider webs (kudos to their insane efforts and results😆). Use the benches to rest and have a high protein snack. We had liter hydration packs but definitely bring a small daypack w plenty of water. The weather held. The scenery was magical. In 9 miles we only saw people at Buckhall landing (the fishing dock, picnic benches, and rest rooms are a plus!) and a few residents on Rosa road. The only glitch was there was zero signage after crossing 17 so we didn’t pick up the last loop. 9 miles in total though was perfect and lunch at Sewee’s classic restaurant rewarded us with a well rewarded meal. Love the staff there. Fantastic service, laughs and local wisdom:-) Absolutely priceless to share this Lowcountry treasure. Thank you to the the Palmetto Corp, volunteers and sponsors. After the JMT, my goal is to get that Palmetto patch and to support your efforts in every way we can 💪🏼😎☺️❤️
