A local in Powell suggested we go here and what a great recommendation it was. A short walk from the parking lot takes you to a couple of locations overlooking Independence Lake and Lake Superior past there.
A nice little park...there are picnic tables throughout and lots of trails to explore. The lookout over the rock is quite spectacular. It is a pretty easy hike and a great place to sit and have a little picnic. There are a lot of information boards throughout the trails explaining plant and tree life. Great for kids and adults!
Easy walking trail, only takes about 30 minutes to do the loop. Beautiful fall colors viewing!!
Quick drive from Big Bay. Great view of Lake Independence, Lake Superior and even Copper Harbor!
Incredible views of Lake Superior and Lake Independence. Was a spectacular spot to enjoy the fall colors. Pretty easy wide gravel trail the entire loop, could have done it with our stroller. Benches and a picnic table are a nice touch, it's not a very large place or a long trail, but well worth spending some time soaking in the views.
Clean trails, easy enough to push a stroller. Nice views, clean toilets.
Stunning. The map makes it look much longer of a walk than it really is. Don't forget your 2 quarters.
Great walk, with beautiful views. There are informational posts along the way that talk about the plants along the way! Don't forget the bug spray and get ready for a delightful afternoon. It took us about 50 mins, but we really took our time and enjoyed and read all the information posts. Oh and there are plenty of benches and picnic tables along the way!

Great campground with everything from full hook ups to primitive sites. Quiet during the week and much busier on the weekends. Boat launch, fishing pier, beach, fish cleaning house, play ground and several bathrooms throughout the grounds. Very nice staff who work very hard to keep the campgrounds looking great. We would definitely return. We camped in site 33. There is also an ice cream shop within walking distance.
This is a cute little campground.😃 Not very big, Only about 50 sites with different levels of hookups💧⚡💩 priced about $5 between them, but even with full hookups it is reasonable enough to stay for the week! They also have two rustic walk-in tent sites, a full size family tent, and two yurts! 😱 And trails🥾🚶‍♀️ I'm not sure how I ended up here. I think somebody told me about it at a previous campground 🤔 It's farther from Marquette then I would have liked to be, but sometimes it's just one of those wonderful finds 🥰 It's scenic and quiet. Not too big. No pool or anything fancy except for the part about the beach 🏖️and the lake and the boat ramp 🤩 It's darn near a paradise for the locals! There was a whole group here playing volleyball earlier. 🏐 There's also a basketball court🏀And the boat ramp 🚤is very popular. There's even a Marina with ⛽ gas just up the road. Apparently there's always events happening here. First and third Thursdays is an open mic 🎤 at the pavilion. There's a concert later this month. They have trails.🚶‍♀️ But the 🏖️ beach is the big draw. It's very nice. Lots of sand instead of rocks like others I've seen. Also this is my first opportunity since lake Ontario to actually camp on the lake! 😀 Some of the primitive sites are right on the water In the farther section of the park by the yurts. There is a pub and a restaurant and a grocery store/gas station within walking distance.
What a beautiful campground for a small county spot! Features a beautiful and kid friendly beach and lake front. Lots of fun hills to ride bikes around too! We were at a spot that would have been much more suitable for an RV, VERY hilly for a tent. The office was lovely to work with, they even offered for us to change sites, but we had already set up camp. If tenting, sites south of the bathhouse nearest the office are recommended!
Great campground. Nice facilities and staff. Beach and playground are nice for the kids.
Great place! Peaceful, mostly shaded sites. Great beach with a big swimming area. We will be back. Picture from site 34.
I have camped here many times throughout my life. Many updates and additions have been made over the years, all of them making the park better. This is a great place to take the family camping. Rustic sites available, many sites with electricity, water, and sewer hookups. There's a beach with a swimming area, as well as a boat-launch and pier. Very close to the town's general store.
We stayed one night. Saturday 30 August. It was absolutely the worst experience we have ever had. Beautiful park. The problems. The concert at the bar. Started about 8 and lasted until after midnight. Said nothing about this on the website. The people next to us had visitors. In particular a woman who talked about everything to pregnancy to her favorite colors. Non-stop and loud from 7ish til after 10. Plus a kid making weird noises like Brick from the middle. Generators, dogs. Very very loud and just a horrible experience. I called and said is it always like this. I was told when they have a live band and it is out of our control. IT SHOULD BE POSTED ON THE WEBSITE. Also the restrooms were not all that clean.
It has nice camping spots I was in # 62 close to the lake the beach and bathrooms and showers

This was a lot of fun! I went twice in a week. The Fearlessly Female group met here. It’s a super easy process. They have a ton of cute pottery pieces to paint. I’ll definitely be back!
Great place! So many options, staff are helpful and friendly, quick return, and so much fun! The items are a bit pricey though so it might not be for everyone.
My sister took me here for my birthday. We had such an amazing time. The staff was very helpful. There is some many items to chose from. Also there's are amazing colors to chose from as well. So if your looking for something to do on a first or with the kids this is the spot. The end product looks amazing!!! Thank you
Had lots of fun and the staff was super friendly and polite! Its a little pricey BUT they offer lots of different items in different price ranges as well as has daily deals! You can bring your own food and drinks. honestly fun for HOURS!
Huge selection to choose from. I brought my own drink and snack. A bit noisey but alot of people. Young and old. I found it very relaxing. I will be back.❤️
Omgggggg 😲this is a BEAUTIFUL, COZY place to bring the kids, bring a date or family. They have everything you need to be your creative self 😉 💜 Every kind of ceramic pieces. If you continue past the Yellow Dog Falls trailhead on 510, you'll eventually encounter another small bridge. Park your vehicle by the bridge, and make your way down to the creek. There won't be a trail made for you, so you will have to blaze your own path. It's steep, so bring your hiking boots, but once you find the Falls, it's pristine and beautiful. You may even find a good fishing spot if you search long enough.
Nothing spectacular but one i can cross off my "list" to say we have seen! Word to the wise...DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR GPS DOWN THE TRUCK TRAIL! There is auch better way, and it takes you right past Yellow Dog Falls parking area! You have to look very, very close for a small tan arrow that says "FALLS" along the road, and we didn't see it til we had turned around. There is no other sign or marked parking area.
Very easy to drive past. There's a small wooden sign that says "Falls". Nothing spectacular but if you're trying to cross all the waterfalls in MI off your list, then stop and take the very short stroll. Not very difficult to reach the fall from the street path.
No truly defined trail that we saw, but it was beautiful and worth the trailblazing to get through the woods to view this wild waterfall.
Look for the small "FALLS" sign marking the trail.

One of my favorite falls in UP. Not improved for “city day hikers”. Come prepared for UP woodland hiking. Good boots with a good tread suggested. Be prepared to climb hills as they are steep. Went out after a light snow fall. Trail was icy and steep as mentioned. But we walked through the woods on either side of trail as footing was better. Not possible once foliage comes back out. The road was fine for a UP backroad trail. Very typical. If you haven’t driven in soft sand or in muddy ruts, maybe park farther away and hike in. Sign is very small on your right. Stood right out for us to see. Of course have been there a bunch of times so knew where to look. Would be lost in summer behind all the foliage. If you are looking for a waterfall with little visitation and some alone time with nature this is your place.
Absolutely stunning series of falls! That first drop is the biggest! The drive could be a bit of a challenge, if you don’t have 4WD. The first mile of the truck trail was okay for our AWD SUV, but then it got bad quickly. We ended up parking on the side of the road right by that area and decided on walking the rest of the way (roughly 0.7 miles) to the trailhead. It was well worth that hike! I recommend able bodied to do this!!
The road seems to have been a problem for other reviewers but it's pretty typical for a UP logging road. There are cleared parking sections on either side of the road near the trailhead which are probably a better indicator than the trail sign which is quite small. The path gets very steep and scrambly towards the end but the waterfall was beautiful and well worth the trouble. If you hike up river you will find a smaller second set of falls.
This is another top spot in the UP for me, and quite possibly one of the best walerfalls since you can practically stand inside of it. It’s well worth the trip, but a little tricky to find, but overall getting to the location is easier than you might think. Look for the sandy two track truck road off of Big Bay Rd, just past a house and structure with a tin roof. The road is in pretty good shape but it’s been super dry this summer - during a thunderstorm or snow this would definitely require 4WD. Keep going down the road until you see what looks like an open spot to park maybe two vehicles on your left. About 10 ft up the road from that is an opening on the right and a very small, discrete sign that points out the trailhead. I’d rate this trail “moderate” difficulty, as it gets pretty steep at times, especially near the bottom right by the falls. The hike itself isn’t very far at all, maybe 0.30 miles. NOTE: if you make it to a very, very small wooden sketchy looking wooden bridge going over a small creek - you’ve gone too far! Turn around! Other than that, enjoy! It’s a pretty easy walk over some rocks to the base of the falls but be mindful of the slippery spots.
Super fun hike to the falls. It would have been hard to find had I not read the reviews prior to going. Definitely look for a small sign with parking for only 2 cars, if you reach a small wood bridge you've gone to far. Head down the walking trail which can be steep at a few points but well worth it.
This 1 was definitely a favorite 😍 very rooted grounds n some steep trails n I don't recommend a car to go back there its doable but an suv of some sort is much better its a lil rough
Just a short walk from the logging trail. Might need a suv or truck during rainy season. The trail is steep and full of roots so be careful
Park after slowly getting down the rough drive. Its dry and my car made it. Take the trail to the right of the drive. Steep walk down to the falls but worth it.
