My family has been going to Fayette since I was a young kid. It's one of my favourite places. Everything about it is great. The scenery, the history, the park staff, everything is just fantastic. It does require a lot of hiking so if walking isn't your thing or if it is hard for you keep that in mind before going. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is one of the least explored treasures in the US and personally I hope it stays that way. The UP has managed to stay a little wild and a little rough and it is all the better for it. Even though this state park is well visited you still feel as if you may be one of the first people to explore it. The staff have done an excellent job of preserving the history of the place without making it look manufactured. If you're looking for photo ops, you can't find a better place. There isn't a bad angle here. Improvements have been made recently to the visitors center and many of the displays. The bathrooms are clean and there are water stations throughout the park. It may be out in the middle of nowhere but it is definitely worth the drive. Pack a lunch, make it a picnic, you'll have a great time.
First time visiting the UP and this was one of our recommendations to visit. Very interesting story with a very interactive feeling. You can enter into almost everything and see exactly how it was preserved. The limestone cliff sides are also beautiful especially if you can kayak or get up close. You can get kayak rentals for $30 ea. For 24 hours. Ask at the park entrance.
Very interesting history. I think it's strange it never took off as a town and it was made into a historical park. Neat place and if I had more time would have stayed longer to explore. I'd say you could easily spend 2-3 hours here.
We brought our 18, 15, and 8 year old kids and everyone enjoyed the area and history. The sights, both natural and man made, are beautiful and interesting. It was a bright, hot, sunny day and no one was begging to go home early or leave to get food. 😅 In fact, they were eager to go building to building and made sure they saw every placard. I'd go again in a heartbeat. They've done an amazing job preserving the site and presenting it in an interesting and engaging way.
Amazing state park! This is one of the coolest state parks I’ve been too in Michigan. It has so much history and the DNR have done a great job keeping up on this park. It was so cool to walk around and see how they used to live and work. There are signs everywhere that tell you the history of the building or even the history of the buildings that used to be there. I 100% recommend coming here and if you do make sure you stop in the gift shop and see the scale model of what the busy town used to be like in its heyday!
The old town was such a fun piece of history. It was so cool to imagine what it had been like and the different residences as you walked around. This is a good afternoon and the ice cream in the visitors ce territorial was such a good price you cannot go wrong coming to this one. Great hikes out on the ridge as well.
This was our first time exploring this State Park. Might i say wow!!!!! The views are quite spectacular!!! The historical aspect of the place is intriguing. The buildings that remain from this time gone by are very interesting. They tell a story of hard-working people just trying to survive and make a living. Most buildings are open for viewing. Currently, part of their parking lot is under construction, so while there still is ample parking, i would suggest getting there early. Park opens at 9 a.m. and you will need a recreation pass to get in. Day pass is $11, and yearly is around $40. While all pathways are generally easy walking, they do have some elevation to it and may not be suitable for everyone , especially those who experience walking difficulties. Overall, an experience worth checking out if you get the chance!!!! I would very much recommend visiting 👍👍
Fantastic place to hike, bike, swim, and learn. The townsite was an easy 5/5 stars. However, we camped for a week at the campground, which was probably the only negative thing about our trip. The campsites were the smallest we've camped at; people partied until well past 1 am, every single night; park rangers catered to the loud people and weren't enforcing rules at all- oh, except for us to turn our movie down, while kids were running around screaming and adults drank and boisterously laughed every 10 seconds... it was truly not a pleasant stay. Because of this, the campground was maybe a 3/5 stars experience.

Marsha is a gifted artist. She makes quality, unique, beautiful pottery! Every piece is handmade and unique. I highly reccomend her work.
Marsha does a fantastic job capturing the essence of the Upper Peninsula in her pottery. I am particularly fond of her blue line which captures the colors of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. When on the Garden Peninsula be sure to stop in.
Always stop at Latulip Pottery when visiting the Garden Peninsula. Marsha’s shop has handcrafted pottery the reflect the natural wonders of the UP. Marsha also carries locally crafted jewelry and other local products.
Truly one of a kind hand-crafted pottery and gifts created on site on the gorgeous Garden Peninsula. You will not find a better place for a unique gift for another or yourself. Artist is on site daily from May to October (with a few exceptions.) Original designs sought after by retailers throughout upper Midwest. Each hand signed for authenticity. No lower prices anywhere.
A great little shop for hand made pottery. The owner is very nice and knowledgeable. Her bud vases are lovely to look at and work very well. The shop puppy is always a highlight as well 😄
Owner was very personable. The art work for sale was very impressive. We purchased a few items and would encourage everyone to stop in to her little space!
Very unique selection and glazes, I especially like the birch bark pieces and the fish.
Such a wonderful shop with many interesting choices!
