We got there early and previously rained, trail is a bit wet but we like some challenge, plenty of parking if you get there early enough but not too early as I fear that if something goes wrong there are no soul in sight to ask got help (wild animal attack). We enjoyed the peace of traversing it up and have the place to ourselves. Great pictures without being photo bomb. On the way down that’s where the crowd starts to thicken and get busy.
We took our 5 year old and our 8 year old. They did great on the hike but I don’t recommend bringing kids younger than 5. It’s uphill and some of the rock steps are steep and need longer legs to get over. Great hike, very rewarding. Go early to find a parking space.
Definitely for the more experienced hiker. Absolutely breathtaking especially when you get to the top.
I drove a little over 2 hours to come to Crabtree Falls and it was totally worth it. It cost $3 with the honor system. It's a 1.7 mile hike up, but I only made it 0.6 miles before my body said no way 🤣. I will be back to conquer it
One of the most beautiful waterfall hikes in Virginia. The trail follows the falls almost the entire way up, so you get multiple viewpoints instead of just one. The sound of the water stays with you the whole hike, it’s really peaceful and refreshing. The falls are tall and dramatic, especially after recent rain, and the greenery around them makes it feel like a little mountain rainforest. Some parts of the trail are a bit steep and rocky, but there are railings in most of the steeper areas, and the views are absolutely worth the climb. At the top, you’re rewarded with a wide overlook of the mountains and valley below, perfect spot to just sit and breathe for a few minutes before heading back down. If you love waterfalls, this is a must-do. Beautiful, calming, and one of those hikes that stays in your memory.
Great place to be. The hike is moderate and doable with kids. My 7yr old was very happy since we reached the top. This is a rocky terrain and will be slippery when it has rained . Few trees had fallen and blocked the trail and had to jump or slouch under it to continue. Having hiking sticks will help.
Such a beautiful hike! Never gets old as I've lived almost my entire life 25 minutes away. Just be very careful as rocks can be slippery and cell service is not that great in the area.
Easy 1.7mile hike to the top. Can be up and down in 2 hours.

Wintergreen Fourth of July is our family tradition. I haven’t actually stayed at the resort, we always rent a cabin or a condo. Beautiful weather, wholesome family activities, endless natural opportunities for fun and exploration … I would live here full time if I could. The resort is 50 years old and there is a slightly rundown 70s quality to it, but that is definitely part of the charm for me.
Wintergreen Resort in Wintergreen, VA, is a year-round mountain resort that offers something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in recreational activities such as skiing, golf, tennis, hiking, swimming, or simply want to enjoy the peace and tranquility the Blue Ridge Mountains offer, Wintergreen has something for you. On a nice winter day, you may be able to partake in both of Wintergreen’s most popular amenities. In the morning, head up the mountain and hit the ski slopes, then ditch the parka and head down the mountain to Stoney Creek and get in an afternoon round of golf. That’s something I haven’t done outside of Arizona! Guests at Wintergreen Resort can choose from a variety of comfortable and diverse lodging options. Condos, villas, and homes are available throughout the 11,000-acre property, ranging from studio units to 10-bedroom homes that sleep 20 people. Many have full kitchens, fireplaces, and private balconies or patios, as well as panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Mountain Inn offers hotel-like guest rooms as well as Lodge Rooms. Mountain Inn sits at the heart of the resort's mountaintop village. Our Lodge Room was a very comfortable one-bedroom with a fully equipped kitchen with microwave and coffee maker, a living area with a big screen TV, and a loft bedroom with a king-size bed. Sleep comfort is everything, and this bed did not disappoint! Wintergreen has several dining options. The Edge offers a casual atmosphere and serves seasonal appetizers, savory sandwiches, homemade desserts, and a diverse list of locally crafted beers and ciders to complement your meal. The Copper Mine blends timeless culinary traditions with contemporary techniques to offer a menu inspired by Old World flavors. The Terrace Café is a great place to grab a cup of coffee and a pastry as you head out to enjoy all that Wintergreen has to offer. It’s located in the Mountain Inn near the bottom of the staircase. More options are available depending on the season.
Wintergreen is nice for what Virginia has to offer, but definitely on the smaller side compared to resorts out west. Most of the snow is man-made, so conditions can vary depending on the weather, but it’s still a fun spot for a quick ski or snowboard day. If you live in Virginia Beach, it’s only about a three and a half hour drive, which makes it one of the most convenient mountain getaways around. The resort has a few decent runs, good beginner areas, and a nice lodge to relax in after hitting the slopes. Overall, it’s not a huge mountain or a powder paradise, but for Virginia it gets the job done.
Meredith Walz came out to meet me and Tommy, told us where we could park the two 45’ motorcoaches and sent Fernando to pick us and our luggage up and drive us to our cabin. Exceptional “over the top” hospitality and service. They both deserve a raise. Both Meredith and Fernando were amazingly friendly. Thank you both! Give them both a raise!
They were able to fit me and my family of 4 into a unit same day and helped us with getting it for two days. Which allowed us to enjoy the jubilee which was such a blast. The room was perfect, everyone was so respectful and diligent and the staff handled everything with grace.
It was fine. I did have higher expectations. Nothing really available to eat that is reasonably priced after 8 pm so eat good during the day and try to have some leftovers. Service was a little inconsistent. Some were very nice, some were very dismissive. I had an ok time.
This was the room next to mine. Every day from 7:30am - 8pm construction took place on the other side of my room. Demo and power saws started by 730. It was soooo loud! I emailed reservations and they never responded. I have never been to hotel where construction was so early, so loud, and there were no warnings that there would be construction. The hall way to my room was covered in dust and debris. I’ve never experienced anything like this in all my years.
We recently had our wedding at Wintergreen. It was a beautiful location with amazing customer service. Kierstin was incredibly helpful and responsive during the wedding planning process. I would not change a thing.

First time ever at Wintergreen. I attempted to go down the green (beginner slopes) and managed twice with only 1 harsh wipe out. ( all others i purposely sat back/landed on my butt to stop) That was my sign to sign up for lessons. I paid for private lessons so i had 1 on 1 training. Connor was a freaking saint and showed me how to slow and stop within 2 runs. He was super patient and encouraging. Never once acted like i was a bother. Anytime i had to stop for a break due to a bum knee or asthma, he took it with a stride. During breaks he would point out forms of other snowboarders and tips. Highly recommend him as an instructor. Thanks again Connor!
Signed up for the Fuller Experience ski/snowboard lessons they offer, wasn't alot of guidance for where to go and what to do if you've never been to Wintergreen (or any ski resort) before so yea it was kinda confusing and though we arrived early ended up being late to the lessons. Our instructor Madison was so sweet and patient with us, honestly she did such an amazing job teaching an adult, a teen and a little child all at once and adjusting the lesson as needed. Even helped us gear up in the rental equipment because we never skied or snowboarded before and were very unfamiliar with the entire process. Also want to mention Lauren Carstens at guest service, she was very sweet and helpful in making adjustments to our tickets and was not once rude or annoyed towards us.
The lessons were a complete joke. If you know how to ski the resort is good. But don't put your money for the lessons. The instructor didn't even bothered to teach how to brake or turn. Infact regular people who were skiing there were more helpful.
Went snowboarding here and was disappointed by the disorganized and long waits, made for a poor experience. Took over 1.5 hrs to get rentals, the process was confusing and not clear which line you had to get in first to complete the process. Finally once we got on the slopes the ski lifts lines were 25+ min waits. Completely unacceptable, ruined the experience. Ski for 5 mins down the hill and wait 25 mins to get back up. They oversold the number of tickets/had an inefficient process for getting people on lifts. Will be snowboarding elsewhere in the future
My two and a half year old has not stopped talking about skiing and “riding the train” with Coach Jacob (Willard.) He was incredibly kind and met her at her energy and interest level. He kept her moving and I could tell she was finding confidence. Three days later and it’s all she’s talking about. Excellent program and excellent instructor! Feb 2021
Trying to get lessons reserved here has been impossible. I called towards the beginning of the season (November 2021) to verify they offer group lessons since there was no way to reserve a spot online, which they confirmed they did but it was on a first come, first serve basis. Fast forward to February and their extremely confusing website and automated phone systems (they no longer answer phone calls) provide conflicting information as well as no way to get in touch with a real person! I have tried calling, submitting their Google Form private lesson request, and emailing and no one has gotten back to me in over a week. Now, this ski trip I had planned since November is probably going to be a bust this month since no one in my group has ever skied before and we can't even reserve a lesson. If you don't know how to ski or just feel like you need a refresher lesson, I would not recommend this resort. Their communication is terrible/non-existent.
Though we couldn't get a lesson during our 2-day ski trip as it was completely booked out, Randy was extremely helpful over the phone, providing suggestions on beginner videos for skiing, as well as went out of his way to try finding an additional ski instructor if possible. Really appreciate the guidance and trying to help as much as possible, Randy and team !
Absolute garbage customer service. Spent over three weeks trying to speak to a person about ski lessons inlicing waiting for hours on hold, multiple messages, multiple emails, filling out request forms all to be told they don’t offer group lessons on weekdays (after having to wait to go in person to talk to a human). Terrible Customer service and the entire resort is awful for kids. Will definitely never come back
