A really interesting and sad part of America history. The rangers are all eager to explain what took place. If you're a history buff you should go.
Was rainy when we went. Kinda hard to get to. Long a very lonely road with no service so be mindful of how much gas is in your tank! The battlefield itself is seen out in the distance through the windows at the visitor center. Cool pieces of information inside to check out and stamps, stickers, etc to collect as well.
Beautiful place with a tragic history, that is well documented at the visitors center and along the hiking trails.
One of the most somber places I have ever visited. The visitor center has an excellent film depicting the history of the people and the battle. Several walking paths with excellent information. A place worthy of respect and reflection.
We're on a mission to visit all of the national parks in the country. (All 420something of them) We visited this park in December while it was snowing, so the road leading down to the trails was closed to vehicles, but we were able to walk down to the trails. This is a beautiful little walk in the snow, and the visitor center has little booklets to explain the battle as you reach each stone on the path. Also there were TONS of fresh tracks in the snow...
Worth the drive to get there. Knowledgeable staff. Listened to a Ranger talk that did a great job summarizing the events of that infamous August day in 1877. Walk the entire trail system to really get a sense of the place.
A hidden gem within the National Park system. Rich with history and several trails to walk the battlefield. A must see!
I was sad that the visitor center was closed. Outside displays were interesting.
